I don’t have any fancy stats to back this evening’s wager. What I do have is the belief that the Broncos, while better than people expected, are not as good as they are being made out to be. No disrespect intended. I also know that the Steelers are the defending champs and they have not been healthy for most of the year. Despite their lack of overall health, where they are vulnerable I don’t believe the Broncos can exploit. Why do I like the Over? Cuz I hate betting the Under.

The Ravens had a bye then a good win over the Broncos, look for their solid play to continue as the AFC North gets even tighter.

Atlanta Falcons -8.5 vs Washington Redskins
The only mystery here is whether the Falcons will wear their old school red helmets. I sure hope they do.

Green Bay Packers -10 @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The Packers do well against inferior teams. The Bucs are inferior.

San Francisco 49ers -4.5 vs Tennessee Titans
The 49ers are going to make Vince Young reconsider his claims of going to the Hall of Fame someday.

Philadelphia Eagles -3 vs Dallas Cowboys
The Cowboys want revenge from last year’s embarrassing loss to the Eagles. Not going to happen.

Penn St. Nittany Lions -5.5 vs Ohio St. Buckeyes
This is Ohio State’s first real road test and they failed badly at their last road test which shouldn’t have been a struggle. I am talking about their 26-18 loss at Purdue. From Columbus to Cleveland Ohio St. backers are losing their love for Tyrelle Pryor and I don’t see that love being rekindled in Happy Valley today. Penn State’s offense is not their strong suit but they have found a little rhythm recently and should be enough to cover the 5.5 points.

Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets -14 vs Wake Forest Demon Deacons
Georgia Tech has done very well for me this year and I look for them to keep treating me right. In a 13-10 loss to Navy, Wake Forest gave up 338 yards rushing. And, Navy didn’t even attempt one pass! Not one! Georgia Tech should be able to run for 400+ yards today.

Oklahoma St. Cowboys -7.5 @ Iowa St. Cyclones
The Cowboys will be able to overcome the loss of Dez Bryant against the Cyclones, whose claim to fame this year is winning at Nebraska by 2 points while gathering 8 turnovers.

Oklahoma Sooners -4.5 @ Nebraska Cornhuskers
Everyone wanted to start making the claim that Nebraska was back after starting the year 4-1 with their only loss being a heartbreaker at Virginia Tech. Since then Nebraska has gone 1-2 with losses to Iowa St. and Texas Tech. Meanwhile Oklahoma has overcome the loss of their superstar QB to show they are an all-around good team.

This line is this low because Buffalo won last week by a decent margin in a game that 4 people actually saw. The Texans meanwhile have been playing closer to expectations. Houston will win this going away.

San Francisco 49ers +13 @ Indianapolis Colts
The Colts are playing well but the competition goes up a notch this weekend. The Colts also don’t do on offense what the 49ers have a difficult time stopping. This is just too many points, and the 49ers will score some points with Alex Smith at QB.

Arizona Cardinals -10 vs Carolina Panthers
This game in the NFC Divisional Round is what sent the Panthers into their tailspin. The Cardinals are playing well on defense and get a crack at Jake Delhomme.

Philadelphia Phillies vs. New York Yankees

I have not been this excited for a World Series in a long time! There isn’t a baseball fan in the world that shouldn’t be excited for this Series. As a matter of fact, only Mets fans are allowed to not care since they hate both teams. Finally, for the first time in a long time (probably 1999) the two best teams in baseball are facing each other in the World Series, and what a Series it should be.

Baseball is a game that hinges on so many unforeseen things, more than any other sport. For example, who is better Cliff Lee or C.C. Sabathia? An argument can be made either way. Which offense is more powerful? Which team is more clutch? The only discernible difference between these two teams as I see it is their bullpens, more specifically their closers. Mariano Riveria is Mariano Riveria. He is legendary, has proven his worth and there isn’t much else to say about him. Except for this: Mo has shown that he does not field and throw bunts out very well. Perhaps statistically he is as good as any other pitcher performing that task, byt Mo threw away the 2001 World Series against the Diamondbacks, and he almost cost the Yankees the other night against the Angels. Brad Lidge meanwhile should be spoken about in terms of his dominance but because of his shaky regular season performance the topic concerning Lidge is, which one will show up? In the post-season he has been the Lidge of 2008, which is great but in this calendar year he has been more shaky than sturdy.

These two teams played this year in the Bronx with the Phillies taking 2 of 3. In my honest opinion, I wouldn’t blame anyone for placing money on either team, I think they match up that well. The only thing I am highly certain of is that neither team will sweep, and every game will be a dramatic, nail-biting game that comes down to the last pitch. That being the case, an argument could be made for the Yankees based on their experience in playoff and World Series games. The Phillies however are the team with the more recent World Series experience, and they are the defending champs.

So for whatever it is worth, I placed my money on the Yankees in 6. And I have not been this excited for the World Series in a long time!

There isn’t a chance in hell I would put money on the Redskins. The analysis doesn’t need to go any further than that. Anyone that wants to find a reason to take the Redskins is just looking for a reason to take the Redskins. Aside from the Eagles losing to the Raiders last week, what possible reason is there to take Washington?! They are a bad team with dysfunctional management that have made moves that only serve to deflate an already deflated team. The Eagles loss was last week was the worst thing that could have happened to the ‘Skins and the best thing to happen to Vegas. The Eagles losing last week is serving to balance Vegas’ ledger as it has given people hope that maybe, just maybe, the Eagles suck. Well, they don’t. The overlooked the Raiders, and had their annual ‘Screw the Pooch’ game. No chance the overlook the Redskins.

The Crimson Tide will do to Lane Kiffin’s Vols what the Gators were unable to, which is to beat them down. Reason is, the Tide are better than the Gators.

Penn St. Nittany Lions -4.5 @ Michigan Wolverines
Michigan has an offense that can be tough to stop, but Michigan also hasn’t figured out how to stop the other offense. Penn St.’s defense is the best that the Wolverines have faced this year.

Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets -5.5 @ Virginia Cavaliers
Georgia Tech may well be the best team in the ACC. That may not be saying much, but its enough for today against the Cavaliers.

Miami Hurricanes -4 vs Clemson Tigers
If Georgia Tech isn’t the best team in the ACC, than its the Hurricanes. Again, maybe isn’t saying much but its enough for today against the Tigers.

Iowa Hawkeyes +1.5 @ Michigan St. Spartans
I had been playing the trend of unranked teams favored over ranked teams. It is 50/50 at best so I am throwing that away. Both teams like to play close games and Iowa has been at finding a way to win the close games.
