My Review

I must admit that we don't do the whole 'tooth fairy' or Santa thing in our home. Our kids definitely know about them and their stories, bur we never actually tell them that they really exist - it's just more of a fun fairy tale.

So I wasn't too sure what I was going to think about this book, but wanted to give it a read because it sounded fun, and perhaps share it with my daughter when she's older. (My ten year old boy is a bit beyond that now, especially pink fairies, lol)

I have to admit I fell in love with this short story!

The illustrations are beautiful and sooo girly - something every princess loving, dress wearing little girl would love! The story itself takes you away into fairyland with the little girl and is really magical - I loved that it rhymes too - that always makes a story so much more fun for kids! (Alright, and me!)

I will certainly be sharing this book with my little girl when she's a bit older (only 2 now) and can't wait to read it with her - her being a girly girl too I know she'll love it!

My Review

I was really interested in reading this book as soon as I read about it because of the fact that it was written by a 13 year old girl! And she's authored 12 other books! (You can read her awesome story below - very inspiring!)

I wasn't sure what to expect, but was really pleasantly surprised!

The young authors writing shows maturity well beyond her years, not only in the structure of her story, but in the difficulties the characters must face and how they overcome them.

So much our children watch and read is full of ridiculous characters who think up nonsense solutions to their problems - not something that will really help children realize their potential!

This book however, shoes a different perspective from a child, letting other kids know that they have the power within themselves to solve life's little problems - all in the context of a wonderful, imaginary world full of color, character and fun!

A definite must read for your 8-12 year old girls!

My Review

It's not often I come across a self-help type book that I can actually get into. Usually I end up skipping a bunch of pages because of the solutions the author gives - they're usually pretty obvious ones! Eat too much? Well eat less. Tired all the time? Get more sleep! Worried about the state of the world? Well I've never read a self-help book for that - until now.

Altar Ego was not only written well, with witty personal stories from author Craig Groeschel, but is actually a book that can help people - I know this because, well, it has helped me!

The book is divided up into three parts, each dealing with different parts of your self, encouraging you to let go of your current or past held beliefs of yourself, and becoming the new person you are in Christ instead.

I thoroughly enjoyed this read and would highly recommend it to anyone seeking to let go of their negative viewpoints or worries about themselves.

This book will certainly help you realize who Number One is (pssst - it isn't you!) and allow you to break free from things that may hold you back, and be a bold Christian.

One of the things that I have really noticed in the past few years are some under eye shadows under my eyes! I've been covering them up with some concealer everyday, but hate how I wake up in the morning looking tired - it makes me feel tired!

First, as with anything, it's a good idea to start with the root of the problem. Why do we get these wonderful reminders of how tired we are in the first place?!
WebMD on this page, gives some options and ideas that may lead you to the cause of your under eye drama - thus giving you the solution! Identify the problem, and stop it!
Also, be sure to check out this page on mayoclinic.com to know when you should see a doctor about them! Usually under eye circles are harmless, but sometimes they can be an indicator of other health problems!

Of course, sometimes, it's near impossible to stop the problem - like getting up every few hours to feed a newborn, or having a job that requires a lot of overnight traveling.
In these cases, before you jump into any kind of in-office treatments, you'll probably want to try the natural route first - things you can find around the house that might just take the problem away!
HowToRemoveThat.com - an awesome site, gives quite a few great ideas on this page here! Everything from good ol' fashioned cucumber slices to more modern derm treatments.

Of course, for a more persistent problem that is really affecting how you look and feel, you might want to look into cosmetic treatments. This new tear trough treatment I found out about here on this page, is getting a lot of buzz! Apparently, it takes just 10 minutes in-office, and the results last 9-12 months! Having a shot once a year - not so bad, right? It is also, though it sounds painful, just a slight pinch according to the author. Just check out her results:

All in all, here's what you should do about under eye circles or bags:

Start with the underlying cause. Try to get rid of whatever is causing the problem if possible.
If you can't get rid of the cause, try some natural remedies first. Oftentimes, these work really well!
If all else fails and they really bother you, look into in-office treatments. They are really effective!

My Review
I must say that I thoroughly enjoyed this book both because of the great character build-up, and the romance!
I love it when a book keeps you reading and almost frustrated with the characters for not realizing things - makes me not want to put it down! And this book did just that.
Following Callie's journey through the summer you get to meet her friends and family - each with their own curious back story too - and of course Levi McCloud who you might not be sure of in the beginning (or middle!) but definitely make up your mind about him in the end!
The story was almost suspenseful with all the uncertainty in Callie's life because of her illness, and this just made the story all the more interesting and heartwarming to me - a definite recommendation!

Beauty: Keeping Your Skin Clear & Acne

As a teenager, my biggest complaint was probably acne! I can very well remember waking up with a pimple - on an important day like picture day or a date night of course! - and feeling like it was the end of the world! Oh how we all wish those were our biggest problems again! Right?

I still find sometimes, though, I do get some mini-breakouts out of nowhere, particularly when I was pregnant and around that loverly time of month! So I thought looking into some solutions, causes, and misconceptions would help not only myself but you too and any teens that may be in your home right now :)
Here are some great things I discovered:

First, know your facts! We so often think of acne as a 'teenage thing that will pass' and don't give it much thought other than that! But knowing the facts, causes, and different strains of acne can be a really helpful tool in solving the problem. You can find a great guide all about acne here on medic8.com.
There are also some big-time myths that have been out there since forever and it's time they were cleared up once and for all! Dirt causes acne - true or false?.... Check out these myths busted here on this great site !

Before you buy, buy, buy.... think about what could be the underlying cause of your acne. After reading an article here on healthboards.com I must say I totally agree with what they said:

"The medical industry is a business. We are not a dermatologist's patients. We are the derm's consumers. They make money by seeing patients and prescribing medications."

Many derms will tell you that acne is not caused by food - but doesn't it make sense that what you are putting in your body would be reflected on the outside - as with all other things? When you eat too much junk you gain weight, when you inhale tobacco, your nails and teeth yellow - so why wouldn't your complexion be affected as well?
Some food for thought!

Then Try These.... Visit a pharmacy and you'll feel overwhelmed by the choice of products out there to treat acne! But are they really necessary? You may want to try some of the natural do-it-yourself remedies I found here on top10homeremedies.com and more here as well. Including my favorite one I used countless times as a teen : toothpaste! Seriously, it's magic!

Acne can be a really troubling problem no matter what your age! But informing yourself, and taking action the right way can save you a lot of time and money wasted!

My Review

Jori's book was a real eye opener for me!

Reading my bible, I've always been plagued with so many questions about women and how they're treated and mentioned in the Bible. I was pleasantly surprised to not only find the answers to my questions through Jori's historical and biblical research, but overwhelmed by the feelings of thankfulness I experienced once I saw how much God has always protected women throughout history!

Besides those, one of my most burning questions about Moses' laws was why God seemed to 'allow' slavery to exist when making these laws - and again, I got my answer and was sooo happy! (and no, of course God does not love slavery!!)

After having all my questions answered, the second part of Jori's book encouraged me to be what women were made to be - nurturers! No we are not all 'natural nurturers' but I found her words and the prayers at the end of each chapter to be so uplifting! I still use one of those prayers often - especially when I wake up to a screaming toddler, dog pee on the floor, and just do not want to get up!! I know we all have those days!

So I would absolutely recommend this book as a must read for Christian women - or for women who may be confused or discouraged by the Bibles seemingly downcast attitude towards women - I guarantee you will change your mind about at least one thing!

So here I am, beginning an awesome 6 week Revolt Fitness program!
I must admit I'm a little scared - but also excited!
And really nervous to post my before pictures, but here we go!!

I hope by posting my progress as I go, it will encourage not only me, but you as well to take better care of yourself! It's so easy to let ourselves go when we have kids, but I have been trying to lately and it makes a BIG difference in my attitude toward my everyday life - little things like laying down for 10 minutes in the afternoon instead of dusting some days, painting my nails, and now - Revolting!!

Toddler Activity: Play Dough Stamping!

My daughter absolutely *loves* Play Dough! But playing with the same toys day after day can get a bit boring sometimes, so when this happened the other day, my ten year old actually came up with a really great idea - stamping my toddlers letter magnets into the play dough!

I thought it was such a great idea I wanted to share it with you all!

Not only was it fun to stamp them in, spell things out, and practice her letters, it was fun for both of them to see what else they could stamp into playdough!

Here's some ideas they came up with:

Wooden Letter Blocks - they look really neat!
Remote controls (the buttons look really cool!)
Your knit sweater sleeve or a washcloth makes neat designs!
Toys - especially Little People! Stamp their faces!
Straws - these actually make holes in the play dough if you put them deep enough!
Toy cars - make tracks!
Roll a ball in it!

There are so many things you could do - just have fun exploring!!

Homemaking: DIY Pretty Plant Pot

One thing I reaaalllllyyyy want to do this summer is successfully grow some small veggies and strawberries - some indoors, some out.

So after buying a few clay pots I decided to put in some old margarine containers also to save some money - which sounded great until I realized how really ugly they looked!

So I decided to get a little creative!

Now I've seen this done on Pinterest before, but it always is made to look so complicated - slowly gluing on yarn to a container or jar as you turn it - I love crafting but between homeschooling my ten year old, keeping my toddler busy, taking care of housework, cooking, baking, and whatever else happens to come up in a week I just don't have the time!

So I did it the easy way!

Here's how:

I made a small hole in the top side of the container to thread the yarn through.
Putting the yarn in, I made a knot on the inside so it would stay on the container.
I just wound the yarn around the container a few times. You could do this straighter than I did, or you could make some sort of pattern if you like.
Once you like how much yarn is on your pot, simply tuck cut your yarn and stick the end under the rest of the yarn

Simple, right?

I must admit that since my daughter was born my beauty routine has gone waaayyyy down the past 2 years! But lately, with all the changes I've been making exercise and nutrition wise, I have been making a sincere effort to take better care of my appearance as well!
Being the old-fashioned gal that I am, I like to primp myself up about an hour before my husband gets home so I look fresh for him. Part of this routine includes mascara - now I don't really need mascara per say - I`m told all the time what nice lashes I have and am pretty proud of them - but the thing is they aren`t very noticeable without mascara - like my hair they`re very thin and fine.

So I was happy to be given the opportunity to review Fysiko Lash Serum - an all natural lash growth product. Now I`ve heard a lot about these products but was never sure if they would actually work. My Review

This book turned out to be unexpectedly fantastic! 
When I first began reading it, I was pretty sure I knew where it was going - girl is forced to marry slimy bad guy and gets saved by her dashing prince! But was I wrong! 
It turned out to be a major page-turner mystery that keeps you puzzled throughout the book! One that will keep you guessing and trying to figure out "who?!"
On top of the great mystery, I loved the fact that it was a historical romance, and still had good old fashioned courtship! There are, I must say, some pretty racy parts though! But they are shared between a married couple and not promiscuous.
You will not be decided on certain characters - whether you should live or hate them until the very end and that is what I think made this sigh a great story 1 one that keeps you wondering!
