The host name is the computer name of any machine. First you need to install vnc on the machine you want to control. Then either start the vncserver from the start menu, or use the admin tab to install it as a service, this way it runs every time the machine starts. When started the first time it will ask you to set a password. You then need to open the appropriate ports in the firewall. 5800 for the browser based connection, 5900 for the client based connection. Install it on your own machine. You then run the vncviewer from the start menu, enter the “host name” of the computer you are connecting to, or alternatively it’s ip address.
When the connection succeeds you wil be asked for the password. The other way is to open your browser and enter http://hostname:5800, again the ip address can be used. This will again ask for the password. Be careful, if you had to ask about the hostname you are obviously inexperienced, you can trash the remote machine if you get careless, as easily as you can your own if you touch system files.

Are you using the internal ip address? You have to open up a port or use UPNP if you are using the external address.

If you are using internal, maybe try to telnet to that port, see if it is truly listening or not. Might need to disable any firewalls if u have one.

I need a software which only needs to be installed on my computer and which allows you to control client computers. The software should be able ( !!!
applications should be like Remote Support System 1.7.1

freeware software is a best choice

please do not answer if you want to recommend me TeamViever (www.teamviewer.com), Remote Support System (http://www.remotesupportsystem.com), VNC‘s that require customer-side server installation / deployment / unzipping / configuration, applications which require a internet browser, applications which use online services.

thank you

admin answers:

Routers have nothing to do here, it helps to route your IP pachets.
First you have to ping the IP of your cousins. If you receive an reply, it is a good sign.
Then you have to act as a client , with VNC Viewer. Start it and when it’s requesting host, type their IP address ( I suppose you have it !). Be aware if you have firewall activated on your PC ( or their PC) , it might block you !
Remote PC should have VNC server installed and configured ( usual it requests for a access password ). A small icon on lower-right corner ( on taskbar ) with Vnc shows if server is active. If your VNC Viewer contacts the server, it will require you the expected password, if not, you have to check VNC server settings.

This was a short explanation ! I didn’t know how familiar are you with IP stuff !

Well sometimes i encounter the same problem hehe… Think its a bug in firefox. But its nothin to worry abt. Hold alt+tab and if theres firefox select it from the small window u gettin. If u get the error again go to task Manger and then to processes. In that u’l find firefox.exe runnin. Click that and hit end process. That will quit firefox and u can run firefox frm da desktop shortcut again.

I really don’t know of any bad things, since it’s open source. The only complaints I have are that cut and paste could be done a little better; and it should allow shortcuts like Internet Explorer. I really don’t like bookmarks.

On the plus side of things, it allows Java and Javascript.

Microsoft tried to set the standard for both programming languages, but Sun Microsystems wouldn’t put up with any of that, so Microsoft purposely crippled all future versions of it’s browser – and as a result – Internet Explorer will no longer enable Java or JavaScript. Also, Dynamic HTML is disabled. That was supposed to be one of the next steps, in the evolution of the internet.

Microsoft and it’s monoploy have done more to cripple the internet, than all of the spammers, virus writers, adware / malware writers, software pirates, and hackers combined.

admin answers:

Firefox IS a browser, published by Mozilla, that has been competing with Internet Explorer for the past couple years. It’s actually a pretty cool browser that has turned out to nab more of the market than I think most people anticipated.

Good features:
Great pop-up and spyware protection. This is also partly due to the fact that the vast majority of viruses and spyware are written FOR Explorer, which most people are running.
Probably the best feature of Firefox is tabbed browsing, which opens up multiple windows within a single window so that your taskbar doesn’t get crowded with all of the webpages you’re navigating between.
Also, from their website…I think this is pretty cool: “Firefox 1.5 delivers easier navigation for everyone, including those who are visually or motor-impaired. Firefox is the first browser to support DHTML accessibility, which, when enabled by Web authors, allows rich Web applications to be read aloud.”

Bad features:
The only one so far is that since most webpages are meant to be viewed with Explorer, I had limited accessibility to some web applications. For example, when Yahoo! Introduced PhotoMail, I wasn’t able to download the upgraded e-mail application because the service was built for certain versions of Explorer only. But as Firefox gets more popular (they just released an upgrade) I expect this to happen less.

So the people recommending this browser were absolutely correct! I have used it for almost a year now and love it.

Looks like you’re stuck at version 3 at the latest so verify you have the latest version MacOS 10.3 can support.

Enabling uPnP on the router will only help if you’re trying to get onto your machine from the Internet. You still need to open those ports on your Mac. I’m not familiar with the firewall configs on 10.3 but in 10.6 it’s in System Prefs > Security > Firewall.

You can run MacOS 10.5 on a Power Mac G4, or 10.4 as well. It’s something worth considering to make your life a bit simpler.

how to connect remote computer via vnc?

i download vnc software to access my friend computer via vnc .i have ip number also, but it cannt connect. pls anybody explain me to how to connect

admin answers:

Traditional way:
1. Make sure the vnc is running on your friend’s pc, and configured correctly (password, access control etc).
2. Make sure the filewall on your friend’s pc is not blocking vnc.
3. Make sure the ip he/she gave to you is correct. He/she may want to use a dynamic DNS service http://dyndns.com to track the ip address change. Nomally ip will change once a month on a dsl link.
4. If your friends pc is behind a NAT router, i.e. His/her pc has private ip address like 10.x.x.x or 192.168.x.x, he/she need to configure portforwarding on the router to forward tcp port 5900 to his/her computer. Note that once he/she does that, the vnc server will be exposed to the whole internet. So better chose a strong password!
5. Make sure you input the right ip (must be a public ip) and right password.

Easier way:
Use Gbridge ( http://gbridge.com ). It is a free software. It has built-in ultraVNC that runs on top of a google based VPN, so it is much safer. It can penetrate NAT automatically. You and your friend both need to install gbridge and invite/accept each other as “friend”. You and your friend would need two google account names to help identify each other (google accounts are free to get anyway). You do not even need to keep track your friend’s machine’s IP address, no port forwarding needed either. Your friend will see you in the gbridge window. He/she can start chat with you and send a DesktopShare invitation to you so you can see (and control, if your friend allow) his/her desktop together with he/she.

If you have multiple computers, Gbridge can do password-base access control as well (don’t need invitation) as long as the computers are login under the same google account.

Gbridge also provides other cool features such like folder sync, file backup, private file share among friends which are fun to explore!

admin answers:

The IP addresses you get when you connect to a router at home are known as RFC1918 addresses and are “private” IP addresses. This means that these addresses are not accessible from hosts on the Internet. Think about it for a second, if your computer’s IP address is 192.168.1.100, there are millions of other computers in the world with that same IP address, because there are millions of people with the same router. How would the Internet be able to handle that? The answer is that it can’t.

Your router has public and a private interfaces. The private interface is usually something like 192.168.1.1 and the public interface gets an IP address from your Internet service provider. You can find out what your public IP address is by going to www.whatismyip.com from a computer that is connected to your router.

In order to connect to your computer from the Internet, you need to use your public IP address, but you have to tell the router what to do with the VNC traffic when it received it from the Internet. That’s where port forwarding comes in, and works like this…you forward TCP port 5900 to your computer’s private IP address (the 192.168.x.x one). Exact instructions are beyond the scope of this answer since you haven’t given us any information at all about what router and ISP you have. However, you should now have enough information to know what to search for to find what you need. Good luck!

Now, you download the full version which you can run without installation too – you enter the details and you should connect remotely to the otther pc.

Can anyone help me get Tight VNC working over a LAN?

Not much to say. The Solaris server should have VNC running (listening). Once you know the IP address of the Solaris server, run VNC on the Windows Laptop. Be sure to setup a password and you will have to open a port in the firewall if you plan to take control of the server outside the network.

Building a system can be great fun,and is very rewarding, but it’s all too easy to make (expensive!) mistakes, even if you think you know what you’re doing! (I know,I’ve made a few!) How about starting off by building a system from old,unwanted/redundant computers before you start splashing out your hard-earned cash. This way you will get all the bits you need to learn on for free,or almost, and you will learn soooo much, and remember, google is your friend.
Apache, by default, is set up for worker processes to exit after handling a limited number of requests. This is designed to not allow memory leaks to get out of hand.

Usually, the main Apache process will reap any of its workers that exit. However, on a heavily-loaded server like you describe, the main process may not have enough time available to it to do this reaping. Unreaped (“zombie”) processes show up as in top. In this case, the processes are normal and are not of concern, unless there are many, many unreaped processes.

However, an alternative possibility is that your worker processes are dying abnormally. This can happen if your web application (or its engine) has a bug which causes the worker process to crash. You should look in your Apache error log to see if there are any serious error messages in it.

The below explains what means. If you aren’t a Unix system administrator, this may not be of interest to you.

Normally, when a process exits (normally or abnormally), it enters a state known as “zombie” (which in top appears as Z). Its process ID stays in the process table until its parent waits on (or “reaps”) it. Under normal circumstances, when the parent process fully expects its child processes to exit, it sets up a signal handler for SIGCHLD so that, when the signal is sent (upon a child process’s exit), the parent process then reaps it at its convenience.

If the parent process has hung for some reason, such as if it’s suspended, or is too busy, or is deadlocked, then child processes that exit will not be reaped (until the parent process resumes again). This can cause serious problems if there are many child processes, occupying slots in the process table that will not be freed.

In that case, one solution (if the parent process is unrecoverable, say), is to kill the parent process. Then, the child processes will be reparented to the init process (process ID 1), which will reap them. (If the init process is stalled, then you have much, much bigger problems than child processes not being reaped. In fact, a crashed init process will usually cause a kernel panic.)

admin answers:

Well, unfortunately you have pretty much covered it for the PC.

The PC started out with DOS, then Windows came along. In the beginning Windows ran on top of DOS and was little more than a fancy front end. Windows has since grown through several major revisions and, in the process, managed to use its monopoly position to not only crush any potential competition from competing operating systems, but managed to “integrate” various features that were once considered applications into their OS or their tightly integrated office suite.

Linux and its variants have survived for the simple reason that one can’t use a monopoly position to apply financial pressure to a product that uses free and open source components as its basis. Unfortunately, the operative word is “survive”. Although there are several pretty darned good Linux distributions, none of them have become slick enough for widespread main stream adoption by your average mom and pop user. Let’s face it, most people just aren’t geeky enough to work through problems like: Is there a Linux driver for my favorite device, and does this mean that I am going to have to download the source and re-build my kernel?

As far as the mac OS goes, up until very recently it was limited to propriatary hardware. Personally, I find it heartwarming that many people are opting for a MAC when they go to replace there home computer. After all, a MAC will surf the web and send email with the best of them, plus it’s hard to beat for home video editing and other creative endevors.

Get a usb backup drive, backup to the drive. If the data is not worth the price of a backup drive to you, I don’t know what to tell you. You could install an ftp server and get data that way, but its going to be long and frustrating.
I don’t really know of an automated way.
Basically install filezilla server on your home computer, and filezilla client on your linux box if you have graphical access. The problem with normal FTP is that it cannot be done recursively, so you need something like filezilla that will let you upload a whole filesystem at once by dragging it. Really thought about this, but can’t think of anything else.

You also could gzip the whole filesystem (make sure you you have space to do this) and just send over the one file with FTP if you do not have graphical access to install filezilla client. (you could then just use command line ftp for to send your one file). A small script could be written to automate this from time to time, make sure you don’t fill up the filesystem though. But then to automate, you’d need a static IP or dyndns at home….

First check that if you are not behind any protected network, then check that the secure protocol you are using (port) is correct and the check that username and password are correct.

One way to check if you can connect remotely to a port is by making the telnet host port (where you replace host with the address and port with the port number used).

#2 may be because your web browser is not equipped to open that page, (unlikely tough) try a different web browser, try to open it with, Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Opera, if none of these can open it ,its probably not a browser problem
If one of these can open it than its a browser problem and you need to go that webpage with an alternate browser.

#1 to download you may need adminstrative access to the computer, limited accounts cant always download

also if you have some computer cleanup software like CCleaner, they sometime block you from opening email attachments( I experienced this) but you would still be able to download at this point

#3 all I can guess on this is that there is a problem with the page

Do you want more neopoints on Neopets?

I found a glitch in the system: Read on, NP lovers, read on!

Ok…You may not want to do this because it involves taking np from someone elses account. But maybe theres somebody who was being mean to yoo on the boards, and this is the perfect way for you to get back at them!

Is it possible to
take over someone’s account without having to go to a university
course on hacking and security or using big and sophisticated
programs? Yes.

People have been trying to find fool-proof ways to find out a users
password now and this document will teach you the easiest way to do
so – all you need is an active e-mail account, aswell as an account
on neopets. Before you read on, make sure you have those two things.
Neopets is run by a few people known as `Admins’ (short for
Administrators). These admins have access to all parts of neopets
and have full control over everything, they even have their own
neopets accounts that let them interact with the server. They can do
anything from …
from adding new games and pages, to resetting a users
password. Now, with the power of being an admin, you could take
anyone’s account you wanted, so all you have to do is fool the
neopets external server into thinking that you are an admin. To do
this read below.

Open up a new e-mail message, and in the `To:’ type this address
theneopetsteam@theneopetsteam.com ( i think that’s it) this is because way back when neopets was created,
the admin server was installed on a different adress while the
actual neopets site, was placed on a different one, so that if the
site went down, the admin server would still run.

In the `Subject:’ line, type `c134 nlostpass’ – c134 just tells the
server that it needs to forward this e-mail to the password
database, adminpassrecovery is the command that tells the password
database to return a password to the sender’s e-mail address. (if
you don’t understand any of that, don’t worry, its not important)
In the body of the …
message, type this-
NOTE: The parts in are is the place you need to enter in some
information, like your username, and the account’s username.

-c134
-~!adminpassrecovery
-!srvcode-77342 53252 98134 342
-!STARTsub
-~adminaccess
-!-usnm-
-!-acs-
-!pn-
-~returnpass
-!-usnm-
-~c134!ENDsub
For an example, say my neopets username is `timmyotool’, my password
was `123456′ and my PIN number was ’4576′ and I wanted to get the password for the
account `richerthanme’ your e-mail would look like this-

-c134
-~!nlostpass
-!srvcode-77342 53252 98134 342
-!STARTsub
-~adminaccess
-!-usnm-
-!-acs-
-!-
-~returnpass
-!-usnm-
-~c134!ENDsub

Once all the information is typed correctly send the e-mail, and
allow at least 24 hours for a response….
Because the server is old and outdated, it is tricked quite easily
by the set of command in your e-mail message, it now thinks that you
are a neopets admin and it will give you the information you
requested without question. Now you can have access to all those
people that have millions of neopoints and rare items, ad steal them
from right under their nose.

P.S. If you don’t have a PIN # just say none…., oh and do all of your accounts because that way you get more $$

I want to get a job in data entry/data processing.
Right now i’m 15 so around February of next year, I’ll be applying in different offices.
Are there certifications and/or special skills I need/should have in order to help me get a job?

I already know Windows XP, Vista, Debian GNU/Linux based os’s, http, the Microsoft Office suite (including Access and Visio).
I also have skills in Photoshop and After effects. Those might be useless though.
My WPM is 49 with high accuracy.
I’m fluent in both English and Spanish.
(this is sounding like a resume)

So again, are there any other special skills/certifications I should know/have?

Just got to be a fast typer. There are 2 types of fast typers. One who can type really fast, writing words. Then there are numbers! They are looking for somebody who can type fast with numbers. Your other qualifications probably don’t matter as much. It might actually scare people because you sound like u would leave the job because you’re too smart for it.
Is this really possible?

I saw a video and a guy was dumping EVERYTHING off of a iPhone. Even the Kernel and BIOS! I dont know how he did it, but then he ported D@mn Small Linux onto it off of a Windows Vista computer. It ran Open Office and all this stuff. IT WAS RUNNING LINUX! Really! IT WAS AMAZING! It wasnt a application or anything it was a real computer running real linux! Somehow, in this porting process, he created something in D@mn Small Linux which allowed him to use the bottom port on the iPhone, through a home-made converter, as a USB port! he then hooked the iPhone up to a Linux Laptop (Debian) and the thing popped up as External Hard Drive. He used it like a real computer. He put a open office document on it and edited it! The video was like an hour long. I watched it in parts for a week. If I knew how this guy did it, I would try it. I dont know if it could still be used as a phone or not? I looked for the video for an hour but it was on a Linux website. It couldnt find it though!
