Wonderful hues of cheery yellow Coreopsis flowers

complement the shades of

the fragrant Lavender blossoms.

I've included a bit of transparency and reflection

in the lovely cobalt blue vase.

As you visually look-through the vase

you subtlety see a stem inside,

and the table linen behind.

Glints of light reflect off the

polished cobalt glass vase

as light also passes through the vase

casting a pleasing blue hue shadow.

This vintage two-handled porcelain sugar jar

hosts some lovely coneflowers from my garden.

The moody pink hues of the flowers reflect into

the surfaces of both the pretty sugar jar and its lid.

The low light setting enhances the flowers

with soft reflections even onto the table surface.

I am taking a bit of a break to concentrate on our home.

We are adding an addition and redoing the kitchen

and the whole house is a mess including my painting studio!

providing us soft alpaca fiber.

Many breeders of both sheep & goats

(and chickens too!)

use alpacas as guard animal

protectors for their flocks.

Alpacas are often 'On Watch'

while the other animals graze.

Alpacas guard against foxes,

and many other predators,

which is most important during

lambing & kidding season

when the farms are abundant

with newborn lambs and kids.

Sheep with their docile

and friendly nature are

interesting social animals.

I've found them to have

a lot more personality than

many people would imagine.

It doesn't matter if you're

with them in the farmyard or barn.

A curious sheep, like this one,

will come close, look at you,

and then cause you to wonder

what the sheep would like to say.

So... you simply 'give it a hug of love'

(works for people too!)

This alpaca is attentively

Looking for My Friends,

keeping an awareness as to the

whereabouts of its family group.

Alpacas enjoy the company of

other alpacas. As herd animals

they develop social relationships

among each other.

At a recent alpaca show,

as individual alpaca were separated from

their family group for judging,

we could see and hear their caring concern

that they express for each other

when one alpaca departs

or returns to the family group.

Pears have such beauty in shape and color.

They are interesting to paint with their

curves, bumps, and many variations

of color and form.

The lighting enabled me to give this painting

harmonious hues in shadows and lights.

The light reflected varied yellow colors from

the pear onto the cloth and also into the background.

Spending time with, and painting, sheep

has been a fondness of mine for many years.

Sheep and alpaca bond nicely together and

farmers are utilizing alpaca to protect

their flocks of sheep and lambs.

More recently I've had a great opportunity to

learn about, get close to, and enjoy alpacas.

Different from the Huacaya alpaca fleece,

the Suri alpaca have long flowing locks.

Alpacas seem to be far more skittish than

the docile farmyard sheep that I'm accustomed to.

With its beach waves hair style

this alpaca and I got along 'nosey-nosey' fine.

I was spending time with some wooly farmyard friends

when I noticed a momma ewe headed

away from the barn and out into the pasture.

she looked for just the right spot to graze.

My fondness of sheep is well known

by those of you that follow my paintings.

Most sheep that I've encountered are

docile, curious, and huggable.

When mingling amongst sheep

in the farmyard or barn,

and as much as you want to hug them,

there are times when a friendly sheep

obviously wants a hug from you.
