Musings: Yesterday On Third Mainland Bridge

Had quite an inspiring moment on 3rd mainland bridge, Lagos yesterday; while heading for a meeting at Radisson Blu we had a flat tyre right in the middle of the bridge and while the driver sorted the issue I took time to survey the bridge – over and above – and I must say I was amused. From the busy activities on the Lagoon – walking men on the water doing their daily business - to policemen who kept asking interestingly annoying questions and my fear of the ‘shaking bridge’ even more confirmed by loose ends I detected on the bridge. I was definitely in a state of wonder of the problems in this country. I spent time pondering on some personal issues, work plans, global issues and thereafter took some pictures…. I guess these pictures say more than I can explain, especially for me as an individual and Nigeria as a country.

It's New, It's Refreshing, It's Mo Cheddah!

The new edition of StyleMania magazine is out and the cover girl is the lovely and charming Mo CheddaH. This edition is loaded – if you know what I mean – lots of fun and interesting fashion and beauty editorials, reviews – Blackbird novel by Jude Dibia and an exclusive review on No 10, profiles and interviews and Oh-so-pretty shopping ideas!

The edition focuses on everything young, fresh and creatively refreshing, say a breath of fresh young things, ideas and personalities that have stormed the entire entertainment industry; music – Davido and J Martins, Chris Attoh and Eku Edewor in a lovely fashion editorial “It’s a Long Story” for Mango, Bridget Awosika and Kemmy Solomo of Kemkem Studio on their new collections and future references.
Oh sweetness! There’s just so much to grab in this edition. Again I say, it’s refreshingly new and insightful… As usual one of my favourite pages, ‘ Personal Style’ looks beautiful in this edition, featuring two lovely sisters – Michelle and Najite Dede, who made the entire shoot so much fun with their jokes and dance moves – I was impressed.
It’s interesting and quite satisfying how for each edition we (the entire editorial team) comprising majorly of three people put together all these materials to yield a bumper package that’s well appreciated….okay, I’ll stop rambling now.

So, here it is. The edition is fantastic and everyone should get a copy.

This is how I see it; you have no clear definition of what you want or are, all you really need is any medium that helps you to spotlight and fame. But hey, all that will die off.

And all that’ll be left is the ‘real you’, the you you’ve never spent time developing rather spent most of your time pleasing that ‘boss’ who you assume smart enough to be where he is… But frankly, how do you intend to make good success? Yes! Good success, why not know who you are, list your choices and pick that which you have the utmost love for.
Dear friend, then you’ll see a succeeding you.
Keep a note to yourself however to remind you, you are smart, kind and intelligent enough to grow wisely of your own challenges and mistakes and also come through successful and relevant in the society.

Don’t back stab, don’t steal that which belongs to another and surely do not speak despicable of another to make you sound/look nice...Don’t!

Always keep your head, shoulders and standards high, wish for the best. Keep your thoughts on your desires and hope, look out for the best and rejoice in today. There’re just so many days to live through and hey, you need absolute strength – inward and outward strength. So, ensure to always, always see the best, choose the best for you, never stop believing in you and respect your instinct, it’s always 85% right with decision. Most of all; Do All Things with Love.

Few days back at the office, I happened to look around during a general meeting and noticed that a collegue who I would rather not mention his name had a revealing NSFW (not-safe-for-work) portion of his boxers. Oh that wasn't a decent look to behold; quite disturbing.

I wasn't quite surprised because his choice of clothing has never impressed me but not to the extent of revealing absurd under pants.

Aside from those moments I often get street tortured by young guys who have taken to the fashion of revealing awkward briefs\boxers; there are also those moments while I'm out with friends and a fine walks up to say hi to a friend but afterwards says goodbye, turns around and whoops! that's it. The ugly revealing boxers... Then my friends and I just go ewww!! And for that the young man just got a drop from probably a 6 to 2 or 1... So, guys please save our eyes!

Shoe Stalking! Best Runway Shoes at AMFW 2012

I’m usually disappointed during fashion shows/weeks in Nigeria basically because as much as the organizers try to create an ‘international’ standard event and runway they still lose that complete A-grand attitude to the entire package. They don’t endeavour to at least get a 50 for the entire package.

For example, the recently held AMFW 2012 was a great medium(again) to showcase African fashion but some bits were still missing – the hair for each show didn’t define the individual collection of each designer, the shoes were almost same all through the event and most of all, the runway didn’t show any extra effort – at all! Same runway look all through a 6-day event is a NO!

However, I had fun still. Mingled with old friends and met new ones, saw new, weird and quite sublime styles, even on the runway – like the belt for choker mentioned in my previous post – and more. Few of my favourite shows didn’t just showcase the best collection (for me ofcourse) they also had amazing shoes, shoes I couldn’t stop snapping.

Here’s a list of the shoes I loved on the runway; Taibo Bacar, Mai Atafo, David David and Bridget Awosika who revealed her new collection which is quite mature, sexy and oh-so-sophisticated!

While I didn’t expect a lot from Mai Atafo at the just concluded AMFW 2012 he somehow struck something refreshing in my imagination –the idea of ‘Little butt essential details that count’.
Yes, those little but essential details really do matter, that he emphasized with the print implant at the end of the pants…And startling, they look beautiful and creative too.

Lesson learnt is, even when the whole collection doesn’t turn out ‘creative’ and superb as expected , little details added in-between can make huge difference. And there’s a good remark for Mai Atafo.

One Day Last Week

A experience between Tuesday and Sunday last week, specifically Friday at the AMFW

While I wasn't quite geared to get my guess and go have fun at Federal Palace I still found reason to...say simply because my favourite designers where on schedule to showcase- Bridget Awosika and LDA.
The atmosphere was chilly enough to make all the skimpy-wearing ladies in the hall cuddleffor warmth. The usual chats, gossips and random droppings still continued, sight for example was a group of Northen ladies that sat beside me, oh how they chattered like it was a debate of somesought while they infused they feelings on designs as they strutted the runway....oh, did I mbion how amazingly beautiful these women were - well, words can't quite explain their acts but they were sweet ... and fashionable too.

You know those fashion assistants who think they've known more than enough mere by searching through vogue.com, bazaaar and the likes, okay so about three of them were sitting before me and they shared on about 'delicate' matters perhaps they heard around. It was engrossing all through and at one point just thought 'what the hell, let's have fun then, so i listened in and whao my ears heard enough. Eku Orleans walked in to intrude, I raced a glimpse to see the first piece, wasn't impressed so again I soak my thoughts on writing this and enjoying the numerous litttle discussion around me.
The night ended well, said hi to couple of friends and ended up at the belvedere lounge to enjoy sweet mix of Vodka. Splendid night it was.

The Chase to Lose.....Or Not?

It's quite amazing, amusing how we hold on to some desires for long only to finally get them and realize they ain't all that. As humans we desire so many things - items, people, memories, etc but when we eventually find a way to achieve our 'dreams' we lose interest, we lose the promises we made before we got them- right that moment we realize we do not have anything in common.

So why are we so kin on achieving that which we do not even know it's what we want or need to survive. Not one not twice have I held on to faint desires, emotions, crushes which after so much effort I get only to be utterly surprised at how different we are.

Which leaves me with questions like; as humans do we always need to lose to realize we do not need to get too attached to things, people, situations?
What makes us desire more of what we already assume we can't get?
And why do we go on the next running after a crush we never end up with?

I say these collection got little inspirations from my favourite international brands – D&G, Chanel with a very touch of Versace – that fierce, bold and extreme beauty idea – I also love the strong accents, simple but beautiful cuts with long these and daring frocks. And hey, the music was just perfect, it felt like Paris 1921…yes, that lovely!

Arise Magazine Fashion Week is on but not officially –it’s all set but no shows happening yet – and I have few thoughts, wishes and expectation...but hey, things come up after all, man proposes ...yes right, that's it.

Considering all the anticipation towards the show, it’s quite disappointing how with all the hype and drama for the show the organizers seem to be losing proper administrative and logistics skills .

The setting – ambiance, décor is pretty amazing though and I cannot wait to sit in for a shows. Indeed, it’s been a great effort from the ARISE Magazine and ThisDay team and I really do hope increase comes so we don’t have to deal with our usual sayings of “it’s Nigeria, nothing gets done right”
