Dizmas - Yours

Here's decent song from Dizmas. The video is a fairly standard tour video. They have a really big trailer. I hate driving trailers. You ever try to back up with one? It's totally impossible. It's like trying to drive backwards, but backward backwards with a blindfold and a gremlin moving the steering wheel at random.
American Idol: Top 4

I'm so done with this season. David Archuletta won this season about 4 weeks ago. But I guess I need to finish out my critiquing. Seriously, I'm more into Dancing With the Stars than AI. I at least want to watch Kristy Yamaguchi, where as with AI, I don't want to listen to anyone. Even Deadliest Catch is boring so far this season. Well, at least I have Lost.

David Cook singing Hungry Like the Wolf. Whoops, they forgot to mix in any of the music, so it's all his voice. And it's not all that good. Man, this mix is killing me. It's someone singing rock a cappella. Well, he didn't really do anything with it. And it wasn't all that great. Grade C+

Syesha singing Proud Mary. Dude, forget it. I'll tell you how this is gonna pan out. You'll want to hear Tina Turner's voice and you'll go, oh, yeah, Syesha ain't nowhere near Tina Turner. And... that's how it's turning out. This is SOO karaoke. This song separates the adults from the kids. Grade C+

Jason Castro singing I Shot the Sherriff. I don't know about this one. This song is just kinda goofy, and it's not gonna show off the aspect of his voice that makes him special. Man, whoever is mixing this is just killing me. It's all lead vocal. Well, that performance just came and went. Boring. Grade C.

David Archuletta who is gonna win this whole thing is singing Stand By Me. Now, this is a good choice. People love this song. Not only that, but it fits his voice great, and it's not a Disney song. I'm still not totally sold on his voice, it lacks a shine and luster. It's like I want to turn up the treble in his voice. Grade B

David Cook singing a Who song. I'm not sure about this one. Especially if they don't bother to mix in the music. Well, this song is starting out well - nice and soft and showing off his voice some. Oh, nevermind it's a bit rough. Now he's going up for the "Teenage Wasteland" part. It's still a bit rough. That arrangement totally sucked. It just went nowhere at the end. He went up into his upper register and it was decent. Grade B-

Syesha singing a Sam Cooke song. It's a ballad, which maybe she should do after the mess of the upbeat song. You know, her pitch is decent, at least I don't have that against her. But it's just like everything she sings just kinda passes without me noticing anything. Even her big notes. Grade B-

Jason Castro singing a Bob Dylan song, Mr. Tamborine Man. I like this choice. It's just him and his acoustic guitar. That's what we need to hear from him. He forgot the words and sang gibberish for the rest of the line, which I actually thought was funny. Oh, the song just ended. The arrangement of the song didn't really do anything. That doesn't help. Come on people, you need good endings to the songs. Grade C+

David Archuletta singing Love me Tender. Ballad guy does it for the second time - picking a song everyone knows. I don't understand why the other contestants don't get it. People want to hear songs they know. He's playing to his strengths - singing long notes where he can take it an mess around some. Grade B

This Week's Ranking:

1. David A

2. David C

3. Syesha

4. Jason

Joy Electric - New Song

American Idol: Top 5

Neil Diamond night? Boring. It's going to be the easy listening radio station tonight. I'm ready for one of the worst lineup of song choices ever on the show.

I'm also not all that into the top five. There's some likable people, but are they great singers? And yeah, I'm late on this again. I just can't watch it while it's actually on TV. I gots stuff to do. Yeah, it makes my commentary less relevant, but it's not like it's important anyways.

Jason Castro singing Forever in Blue Jeans. I guess this is okay. But what did I say about the easy listening station? Yeah, it's that. Grade C

David Cook singing something, who care's what the title is, no one knows this song. People only know Sweet Caroline. Okay, so he's taking an unknown and trying to make it rock. Well, his voice is sounding okay. It was a little rough lower. Once he got to his upper mid range he can get his rock voice out. But so what? This song is dum. Grade C+

Brooke White singing I'm a Believer. I guess the Monkees made this song popular. This is bad news. This is what some girl would sing in their car to their friends. Uh, okay, yup, that's the way it sounds. It's too low for her so it's just sounding muddy. There's no energy to it. Aw man, this is pretty bad. Grade D

David Archuletta singing I'm totally gonna win this season. Oh, he's going to sing Sweet Caroline. Man, I hate this song, but it's going to work because people actually know this song. He doesn't sound half-bad. He's not totally on, but at least it's not a wreak. Yeah, I'm at the point where I'm complimenting the contestants if it doesn't totally suck. I guess it could be worse. We could be in season 6. Grade B-

Syesha singing a light ballad. Here's the problem, no one knows these songs. She's doing okay. But she's just boring. I nodded off a couple times. Grade B

Jason Castro doing some ballad. I have no idea what this song this is. This is just too much like easy listening channel. Ug. Grade C

Wow, this night is really turning out to be one of the worst shows ever. I don't mean the performances, but the entire night.

David Cook. It's just him and a guitar. This will at least make it seem less cheesy. He's actually sounding pretty good in his whispery tender voice. Oooh, he's going up and it's getting all power ballady now and it's actually sounding really good. Falsetto notes sounded good. Hey, it wasn't bad. Grade B

Brooke playing the piano. This should be way better than her first song. There's no way it couldn't be. This is way more her element. I mean, she's not sounding great. She's basically Carly Simon. The song didn't really do anything. Grade C+

David Archuletta singing There's Coming To America. Oh man, I HATE this song. It's the cheesiest pseudo-patriotic song. People will love it though. But all that said, he performed it fairly well. Grade B

Syesha singing an upbeat easy listening song. Boring. I don't even want to comment. She's singing it well. Grade B

Man, this was one of the worst nights ever for song choices.

Ranking

1. David Cook.

2. David Archuletta

3. Syesha

4. Jason Castro

5. Brooke

Divebomber - To Hell with the Devil (Live)

Here's Divebomber from our show on this past Saturday. A couple points of note - our kids are 15 and 13. Jordan's classmate is also 15 and he plays bass for us. His name is Cullen. He's really good. Victoria sings a couple lines by herself. It's cute. Could you imagine being in a band with your mom? In related news, we have a show this Saturday as well. You can check out that info on our myspace or facebook pages.
Then we all ask for forgiveness and feed the excess bread to homeless children.

The Classic Crime - Seattle

Here's a pretty good video and song. It's an animated video, nothing crazy, but it fits the song. I'm not sure what the classic crime would be. But it probably has something to do with letting your dogs poop in other people's yards. Specifically two Great Danes and a Rottweiler. More specifically a black Great Dane named "Zoe" and a brown one that I don't know the name of and a black Rottweiler. You might not think it's much of a crime, but then you don't have to mow my lawn, do you?
