Rediscovering Christmas 2011 through my scrapbook lens

Let's take a little trip back to Christmas 2011 through my December Daily Christmas album. I crafted this gem using my own scrapbook templates and had it printed through Shutterfly. After 12 years, there's a bit of age staining on the end papers, but it's still in pretty good shape.

I used a mix of my own handwriting font, my 31 day template album and a bunch of Christmas supplies I've collected over the years. I set up a daily template, tweaking it with numbers and some stamped designs. Its a fun blend of daily life and festive events. My approach to journaling was pretty structured, focusing on different themes like:

Traditions
Singing
Buying
Receiving
Eating
Organizing
Watching
Listening
Realizing
Giving

I blogged each day in December 2011 and used those posts to shape the album. Christmas is also birthday season in our house, so there's always a lot to document.

Speaking of memories, anyone remember my podcast? I was up there in the hobbies category on iTunes in Australia. Those screenshots are a blast from the past. We also captured some classic Christmas moments like caroling and sending out cards. Its all there, even our matching mauve outfits and Emily's excitement over her dress.

Christmas Day was a whirlwind, visiting three venues with family. It's funny to look back and see how things have changed - like how I wasn't brave enough to swim in the cool December ocean, but now I'm the family swimmer. Our Christmas tree, gifts, and even New Year's Eve made it into the album.

How about you? Have you documented your Christmas 2011? I'd love to see your albums. Going through old albums is like stepping into a time capsule. Sure, I might choose different embellishments now, but they capture a moment in time, so I don't mind. Those rounded corners were all the rage back then, right?

Our photos turned out surprisingly well, considering it was before the iPhone era. We were still using our trusty mega-zoom camera!

December Daily 2019 Flip Through

Today we are looking at my Christmas 2019 album, and I'm super excited to share it with you. This one's really special to me because I went totally DIY. No templates, no Project Life stuff—just me, a blank canvas in Photoshop, and a whole lot of creativity.

I have loved documenting our Decembers with different Christmas challenges since 2009 and have many completed albums, printed with various different photo printers over the years. 2019's model was printed with Forever, and I love how the 8x8 size matches perfectly with my Snapfish and Shutterfly 8x8 Albums. For those of us who like things neat and orderly, that's a win!

Let me give you a little peek at what’s inside:

Numbers from Traci Reed 2014 Pocket Life kit (no longer available)
Kept it simple with a typewriter font
Documented daily with a photo and some words
Very occasional use of embellishments

December Daily 2019 Flip Through

One of the funnier stories in the album is about a midnight movie screening. We all went to see Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, and it turned into a bit of a comedy of errors. Two of us ended up in gold class, two friends went to a different cinema, and another was stuck at the back all by himself.

I also captured some sweet family moments. We made gingerbread, went to the Hillsong Christmas Spectacular, and even managed to make it to the Heathridge Carols—something we missed a lot because we managed to get sick around Christmas time.

Our family traditions are in there too. We always watch Ocean's 11 on New Year's Eve, and this year was no different. And of course, I had to document my children leaving supper out for Father Christmas.

If I could change anything, I might tweak a few overblown photos. Could be my iPhone's fault. But honestly, I love how it turned out. Simple but meaningful.

2020 Holiday Faves Flip Through

It's time for another Christmas Album flip through. 2020 was a bit different in Western Australia and we shut down all access to the rest of the country and the world to avoid the virus. So that meant it was quite different to the experience of many of you who are reading this throughout the world. As long as we had no cases in the community, we lived a relatively normal life, but there were snap lockdowns for any cases that escaped quarantine. So things were uncertain in a different way!

The Supplies

Over the past few years, I've used the motivation from the Scrap Happy Layout a Day Challenge to help me finish a bunch of pages of my projects. You'll see that for 2020's pages I used Nettio Designs Holiday Faves Templates to make it simpler to use photos from our all cameras and phones. For this album, I kept it super simple with just one kit through out: December Moments Big Bundle from Katie the Creative Lady.

2015 December Daily Flip Through

I have loved documenting our Decembers with December Daily since 2009 and even have many completed albums, with one more that just need a couple more pages to finished it off.

This year Christmas was a little different for us. Sure, I've been pregnant at Christmas before (3 times actually). But, never in the third trimester! Our baby was due December 27, so along with homeschooling our daughter and a few family birthdays, I needed to have a do-able project for 2015.

Janet Phillips included a simple set of templates for all the Daily Digi members. So I figured, why not use it?

I bought a new Christmas kit from Flergs (who else?) when she was guesting at The Digital Press and am planning to use it throughout the album.

2012 December Daily Album: Paper Scrapbook

In 2012, Jennifer Wilson created a gorgeous 6x6 album kit over at Simple Scrapper and I had to jump in a try a paper mini album for my December Daily. You can see more of Jennifer's December projects here.

Although I'm primarily a digital scrapbooker, I love making paper cards and have tried my hand with a few mini albums over the years.

2012 December Daily Pages

Take a look at the photos taken back in 2013 to see the pages without 11 years of wear and tear!

I finished the whole album by January 2013, which was a pretty great effort I think. I printed my photos locally and so I worked in batches. I wrote journalling mostly in the moment then put it together a few days at a time.

A couple of years ago I bought at 6x8 Becky Higgins Project Life album to put the whole album in, because it just wasn't standing up to annual flip throughs by our family!

I love the tactile nature of the book but for consistency, I'm considering re-doing this as an 8x8

Christmas 2009 Album Flip Through

Welcome back to my Christmas Album series!

Today we are taking a walk down memory lane with an album from way back in 2009! I started documenting this Christmas with Jessica Sprague's Holidays in Hand class and I think I got just two pages in before our plans were all changed and though I did write notes each day, I never quite got around to scrapbooking it.

I made this photobook in in 2017 or 2018 (I think!) so it was almost 10 years after it happened. It was one of the last missing years in my albums, so I really wanted to get it done! So I used my Simple Family Yearbook method to help me get it done.

Holiday Faves 2017 Flip Through

Welcome to our Chirstmas Album Flip Through series! Today we are taking a look through my album from 2017.

All of the templates were from Nettio Designs Holiday Faves 2017 Class. Here's a sample of the pages I created.

After I finished the pages the process for printing was:

Re-read the journalling for typos
Save them as a high quality 8x8 inch jpeg file
Upload them to Shutterfly
Use the Digi Scrap Style book, so all the pages are set up for one full-bleed photo per page.
Order the 8x8 hardcover photo book. I always wait for a sale, and ordered a couple of books to make the postage to Australia worthwhile!

These days, I print with Forever, and I love their layflat and hinged albums.

These pages were based on Nettio Designs Holiday Faves Templates and I used kits from Studio Flergs and Kristin Cronin-Barrow.

New Year’s Eve: December Down Under

For the first time in years we went to a New Year's Eve Party. We didn't make it till midnight but we did have a fun time swimming, dancing, eating and chatting with friends.

We headed to the Glossop’s for a NYE Pool Party. It was a mix of friends and our children knew a few from various homeschool acitivities. We lasted till about 9pm before we needed to head home.

Today I used the premade pages from Nettio Designs Holiday Faves album, with a simple tiled adjoining page of photos. I added a few glittered snowflakes as fireworks.

Today's Takeaway

You don't have to take patterns literally! I used snowflakes as fireworks for this New Year's Eve page, and it works perfectly with the rest of the album.

Morning Tea: December Down Under

So here we are on the morning of Christmas, off to our first destination. Over the years in my December albums I've featured Mum and Dad's tree, family gathered and the Christmas goodies from this morning tea, so this year I kept it simple and just included the children's photos with their grandparents. It's so special the our children can see both sets of grandparents at Christmas time.

Christmas Morning: December Down Under

Here's where my Holiday Faves album goes off the rails! For Christmas Day I allow myself to scrap as many photos as I like. So this year that means there's five Christmas Day pages. Let's take a look at the first three in this post and I'll share more tomorrow.

This year we opened our presents at home, then had morning tea at the Okelys. This year, us Okely siblings did a Secret Santa Lego model exchange. There were two Lego Caravans, and the squealing that happened when our children realised they had a baby minifig inside! Lunch was at the Shanhuns plus Gidget, Coco and Darcy. It was so hot but thankfully the dogs were able to be in the shade. We gave our family gingerbread cookies and the dogs got doggie biscuits.

Today I didn't include any journalling on the gift exchange double page spread - or the upcoming pages I'll share tomorrow. It's ok to leave some pages to speak for themselves.

Christmas Eve: December Down Under

Today I'm sharing our Christmas Eve with the gorgeous template with Nettio Designs. I kept things simple with just two photos and patterned paper.

Journalling

We had one case of COVID-19 and so we had mask mandates back in place. We kept up our tradition of afternoon tea at Dome Kingsley, then headed to church. There was a small crowd at the 5pm service due to the uncertainty of the situation.

I chose the patterned paper to echo the hanging Christmas decorations in the bottom photos.

Create the Look

Your December Daily doesn't have to be complex to look good, today I repeated a patterned paper and just added a couple of photos with a white border.

Beaches: December Down Under

This year I made the effort to head to the beach a lot more often. It takes a bit of preparation to get four children ready for the beach, but it has been well worth is to see them growing in confidence. Fun fact - December 1 is the start of summer for us, so it's the perfect time to head to the beach.

This December we made an effort to get to the beach more often. We headed to Point Peron to learn about Birak from Olman. Mullaloo with friends, Key West several times with family in the Christmas/New Year break. We are so blessed to have these amazong beaches close by and children who are getting more confident in the water.

Once again I'm using photo backgrounds and keeping things simple!

Today I used the premade page from Nettio Designs Holiday Faves album. No extra embellishing, just clipping paper to the 10 banner and then a photo as a background paper. I tiled all the photos together the technique I described here and then added the locations.

Merry Dogmas: December Down Under

This Christmas season there were lots of new furry additions to the family, plus the Shanhuns were dog sitting! So I had to include the dogs in our album.

We had a very Merry Dogmas with all the puppies! Picture Gidget the Groodle, Rosie the Irish Setter, Darcy the Golden Retreiver, Sammy the English Setter and Coco the Staffordshire Bull Terrier Cross.

Don't forget to include your furry or feathered family in your album! Including pets or even wildlife can help round out your album.

Christmas Lights: December Down Under

Do you like to look at Christmas lights each year? We do! Each year we go to a few regular spots plus one or two recommended on the Synergy Christmas Lights Trail. Since I document this activity most years I thought I'd switch up the photos and focus on the new place we went to that had a huge collection of Christmas village miniatures.

This year we took a look at the Christmas Village set up in Pearsall! It was amazing and I would have loved to stay longer to look at the details, but due to COVID restrictions we could only have one family look at a time. Then we followed the Woodvale Baptist Church Narnia Christmas Lights trail and got to watch the last presentation of the evening. Everyone was excited to see Liam McCaffrey as Edmund in the videos for the trail.

Journalling

This year we took a look at the Christmas Village set up in Pearsall. It was amazing and I would have loved to stay longer to look at the details, but due to COVID restrictions we could only have one family look at a time. Then we followed the Woodvale Baptist Church Narnia Christmas Lights trail and got to watch the last presentation of the evening. Everyone was excited to see Liam McCaffrey as Edmund in the videos for the trail.

Let Your Heart Be Light: December Down Under

Today I'm documenting a graduation! Matthew moved up to the primary school age group at True North Kids.When I come to these extra pages in the Holiday Fave album, I really hesitate to call them filler pages - they capture so much! This is another gorgeous template from Nettio Designs.

Create the Look

Once again glitter is the star here! I added a glitter style to the text layer. I drew the heart by hand with my Wacom tablet and added a glitter style to that too. I drew it at a similar size to the heart in the template.

I used the premade cover pages from Nettio Designs Holiday Faves album.

For the blended photo, I added a mask to the photo. I used a radial gradient to create the blend.

If you were making this design yourself you could use the shape tool to draw a heart approximately the same size as the hand drawn one. I deleted the mask in that area to focus on Matthew. I then just hid the heart layer by clicking on the eye icon in the layers panel.

It's important to remember that White Reveals and Black Conceals. So the area that is white is revealing the photo, and the side of the mask that is black is hiding the photo.

Here's the layers I used to create a gradient mask with a heart.

Phill’s 40th: December Down Under

December is filled with birthdays and this year was Phill's 40th. Due to COVID restrictions we couldn't have a big party so we planned to celebrate jointly in February or March. Alas, that didn't turn out either! Today we documented the family get together we had despite Phill's voice issues.

We planned a family get together for Phill’s 40th. It was lovely to see everyone and Phill was blessed with some fun presents including a thicknesser and Bunnings vouchers! Unfortunately he was not able to speak, but we still celebrated as best we could. We celebrated his big day as a family too - Clancy’s Fish Bar at City Beach.

There are several options for snapping, to see them all choose View > Snap To, and select Grid.

You can move the layers around with the Move tool (V) and notice how they gravitate toward the grid lines, making it easy to position them accurately.

Merrier Together: December Down Under

Sports Carnival: December Down Under

This might be the only December album you see with a sports carnival included! Fun fact, in Australia, we generally have our sports carnivals in third term (spring) but our local Junior Homeschoolers Group runs their primary school carnival in the last week of school (summer). So far we have been very lucky to have perfect weather.

Journalling

It’s been a few years since we have been able to participate in a sports carnival. This year the Junior North of the River Homeschoolers Group organised one in Duncraig. Daddy and Grandma were able to attend and Edward, Lucy and Matthew were able to participate.

Create the Look

Today I used the premade journalling page, but created my own photo collage for the left hand page.I repeated the woodgrain patterned paper from the photo collage page in the number flag on the right hand page.

Today's Takeaway

For a collage of photos that butt up neatly, use the snap to objects function.I use View>Snap To>Layers whenever I want to create a block of photos that align perfectly, as I did in this layout.

There are several options for snapping, to see them all choose View > Snap To, and select one or more options from the submenu.

Homeschool Christmas Markets: December Down Under Fave 3

Do you go to or sell at a local Christmas Market? This was our children's first time participating in an event like this, so of course it had to go in the December album! This two-page spread followed Lynnette Penacho's templates, scroll down to read more about it.

Journalling

This year we were able to participate in the Homeschool Christmas Markets at Mawson Park in Hillarys.
Edward made wooden ornament (with gel pens to decorate).
Emily and Lucy sold loom band bracelets and accessories. We also put in some homemade dog biscuits. Matthew was excited to purchase a wooden sword, and everyone enjoyed JJ’s icypoles and various other food treats. There McCaffrey’s water bottle shy was very popular, and there were some home made games too. About 25 families had stalls this year.

Today's Takeaway

I created a photo collage all on my own for the right hand page of this spread. You can use snapping features to help you align all your photos.

There are several options for snapping, to see them all choose View > Snap To, and select Grid.

You can move the layers around with the Move tool (V) and notice how they gravitate toward the grid lines, making it easy to position them accurately.

I chose a brigh background and used it across both pages. I kept things simple with just a collage and no embellishing today.

Concert Time: December Down Under Fave 1

Today I'm sharing my first Holiday Fave - the girls' dance concert! It's the highlight of the year for them.

For 2021's pages I used Nettio's Holiday Faves to structure my album. Does that sound familiar? I've been loving Lynnette Penacho's templates and class for years now. Scroll down to read more about it.

Holiday Faves 1

Today's fave spreads across two pages, one side is the journalling page and the other is a couple of photos from the professional photographer. The photos weren't ready till months later so I added them during Layout a Day.

Today's Takeaway

Don't let a missing photo derail the project. Leave a space and keep on going! I could have used other photos I took on the day, but I wanted to include them performing on stage and there were no cameras allowed in the performance. So I just kept on working and finished this spread later.

Create the Look

Today I used the premade pages from Nettio Designs Holiday Faves album.

I used the same paper across both pages to keep it simple and radically cropped down the photos of the girls. The beauty of digital means I am not limited to standard photo sizes.

Journaling

Lucy was part of the Peter Pan Junior Ballet and Emily was part of the Amen Grade 3/4 Lyrical item. This year I was in charge of the single items dressing group, along with two other mums. We kept an eye on 12 girls for the show. The 50+1 Concert at Kingsway Christian College was a big event after last year’s concert was cancelled. There was a tribute to Miss Meade (featuring Aunty Leanne and Lucy in the slidshow!).

Welcome to December Down Under! Ever year I share my album from last year on the blog. I'm creating my December album as we speak but I love that there's a little less pressure on the month of December if I share last year's album here.

Holiday Faves 2021 Cover

Today I'm sharing the cover for my album. You'll notice I've gone for a completely untextured background. I chose that to make it easier for printing, trimming covers with wrap around paper can be a little tricky! I used Nettio's cover design and kept it simple with 8 papers and one family photo.

Today's Takeaway

Creating a cover for your December Daily doesn't have to be complex to look good. This cover is perfect for quick snap that features our family but I don't need it to take over the whole cover,

December Down Under: New Year’s Eve

For 2020's pages I used Nettio's Holiday Faves to structure my album, and I just love how flexible it is!

For my 10th Fave of the album I documented our New Year's Eve celebrations in the midst of lots of work around the house.

Create the Look

Today I used one of the premade journalling pages from Nettio Designs Holiday Faves album. I added a big photos to the opposite page.

I collaged the photos on the second page and used the white space for journalling.

Journalling

This year we continued our tradition of watching Ocean's 11 and having an icecream. I folded the wahing and we headed to bed early. Phill had been busy fixing lawn mowers, painting the house and re-sealing the capping.

December Down Under: Telling the Story

For my 2020 December Down Under pages I used Nettio's Holiday Faves to structure my album, plus I added in a few extra pages. Today I'm sharing a few of the fabulous filler pages that helped me tell the story of our December. I'll be interspersing these pages with my faves - mostly to make sure I keep all the Faves pages together or when I need to move a fave to another page when it comes time to print the book.

Intentions

We didn't know what Christmas during a pandemic would look like, but I wrote a few intentions down and crossed my fingers that we'd avoid another lock down. I used Nettio's design and Katie the Creative Lady's supplies for this page.

Make Merry Memories

I'm pretty sure I saw someone else use a wreath on their page, and I just used a premade wreath from Kristin Cronin-Barrow's kit.

This or That

For the This or That Page, I used a partially transparent white brush to paint over the options I didn't choose.

Glitter Wishes

For this Christmas themed page, I totally scraplifted Lynnette Penacho and used a rainbow of glitter from my collection of Flergs glitters over the years.

You'll Go Down in History

Once again I just made a few changes to Lynnette's design.

December Down Under: Boxing Day

Boxing Day is another public holiday in Australia. There's sales, the Boxing Day test match and many people see their families too. This year our day was pretty low key, just playing with gifts and watching the cricket.

Once again I used Nettio's fab journalling page. I created my own collage of photos for the other page.

Journalling

Matthew was excited to get ‘science’ for Christmas, so he spent a good hour digging to find his dinosaur bones in his archaeology gift from Les.
The rest of the day was filled with buidling Lego, Lucy styling her horse’s hair, watching the Test, 3D printing a skittles template and taking photos to remember our gifts from Christmas 2020.

December Down Under: Christmas Day

Christmas day is filled to the brim with fun and family! I ended up making 6 pages to tell the story of our big day! By this point I'm really stretching the orginal concept of Holiday Faves!

6am Hearing paper rustling and squeals of delight over the stockings from Father Chrismas. Camping cereal breakfast.
7am Family gift exchange.
10am Okelys for lunch.
4:30pm Shanhuns for dinner.
9pm Back home to bed!

December Down Under: Christmas Eve

On Christmas Eve we spend time together as a family. We have a couple of traditions, but as always life throws the occasional spanner in the works.

I kept it super simple using the premade journalling page from Nettio Designs Holiday Faves. I added a couple page of photos thanks again to Phill and the church media team as I was busy on stage!

Journalling

This year we put up the tree over a couple of days. Phill started with the Our traditional Dome afternoon tea + Church service looked a little different this year. I was playing keys so couldn’t join the family for afternoon tea. We beautiful Winter Wonderland services at 4:30 and 6pm, complete with snow and indoor fireworks!
We had a reticulation leak, but by 9pm Phill had fixed that and thankfully we could have a shower!

December Down Under: Meeting Santa

We met Santa at our local shops, we don't always get the chance to take a photo with the big man! Our four gratefully accepted a Lindt ball that they had to eat in one melted bite on the way out!

December Down Under: Carols

Christmas Carols was a big part of our December this year. I practised for many hours, and we rehearsed twice a weeks. It's been a good 15 years since I was on stage at Heathridge, and I was so excited to be part of the team again!

Create the Look

I used two photos to create the Joy page. Here's how it worked

Choose a photo for the top
Remove the background from the group shot
Clone in some extra grass
Add the Find Joy elements from the Nettio Designs filler page

I strategically placed the letters over the join between the photos.

I created a collage for the second page with photos Phill and the church media team took, as I was with the band.

Journalling

What a joy to be part of this event. In our 27th we were restricted to just 10 000 people, but it was still the largest carols event in 2020. So blessed to be able to gather and sing together to celebrate the season.

December Down Under: Twinkle Lights

For 2020's pages I used Nettio's Holiday Faves to structure my album, plus I added in a few extra pages for birthdays and a gifts page for each child. I started my album with decorations since that's often what we do on the first of December.

Today I used one of the premade filler pages from Nettio Designs Holiday Faves album. I added some Flergs fairy lights, paper and glitter. I changed the wording a little bit to reflect our summer Christmas.

I collaged the photos on the second page and used the white space for journalling.

Journalling

After seeing the conjunction of Planets, we took the opportunity to look at the Keatley Crescent fundraising Christmas displays and the local Woodvale lights.

December Down Under: Gifts

Our children like to look back on the gifts they received for Christmas, so today I'm sharing all four pages that I created. I used Nettio's Holiday Faves to structure my album, plus I added in a few extra pages for December birthdays and a gifts page for each child. Today I'm sharing the gifts photos from 2020.

I stared with a basic template from the Holiday Faves by Nettio Designs. For each page I changed the patterened paper, title and resized the photo spot.

No journalling for these pages, but often I'll ask the children to tell me about their favorite presents to write on the page.

December Down Under: Bethlehem Star

Did you see the conjuction of planets in 2020? Thankfully we had a clear evening and it was early enought to bring the children out. We went to a local beach to watch. Here's how I documented the day.

We were excited for the 2020 great conjunctions of Jupiter and Saturn. We headed down to Mullaloo beach. It was closest since 1623 and closest observable since 1226. We had fun trying to work out if they were getting closer or further apart while we watched.

December Down Under: Graduation

December in Australia is the end of the school year, so we have to fit graduations and end of year break ups as well as everything Christmas. Today I'm sharing a couple of pages about our graduations.

I kept it super simple using the premade journalling page. I created a page for Emily's graduation by tiling a few photos on a dark background along with little title word strip. For the third page I included the photos we used for Lucy's graduation, along with our first day of school photos.

Journalling

Due to COVID-19 we had a Zoom graduation for Accelerate. Lucy graduated from ABCs of ACE, Emily and Edward received Academic Acheivement Awards. Emily celebrated her Year 6 Graduation with a group of Perth homeschoolers at Tompkins on Swan.

It was a joy to be able to catch up with friends. In 2020, we only caught up a handful of times, but we snuck one more catch up in before Christmas at Timberlane Park. Cricket, playing on the equipment, Subway and Bump in Burgers for dinner.

December Daily Down Under: Birthdays

Every year we balance 3 family December birthdays on the Shanhuns side. Elizabeth decided to celebrate her 30th on the 5th of December. This year we went a little more low key and had to miss event celebrating Steve and Les, but the calendar was just too packed this year. January brings Matthew’s birthday and countless Okely birthdays and anniversaries.

This year we put up the tree over a couple of days. Phill started with the children, while I was at music rehearsal, then I finished it off the next day. We didn’t even put every ornament on the tree this year as it is getting pretty full!

December Down Under 2020: Cover

As is tradition around here, I'll sharing my December Daily pages with you until the new year!

Earlier this year I completed my 10th Christmas album. Over the past few years, I've used the motivation from the Scrap Happy Layout a Day Challenge to help me finish a bunch of pages of my projects.

You'll see that for 2020's pages I used Nettio Designs Holiday Faves Templates to make it simpler to use photos from our all cameras and phones.

2020 December Daily Cover

Spoiler alert: You'll see this pine needle paper a lot!

Create the Look

For this cover, I didn't end up using much of Lynnette's template design at all! I kept it super simple with just a photo, heart embellishment and title.

Simply choose a favorite photo and add a stroke and a shadow. Perfect!

December Down Under: New Year’s Day

Today is the last page of my simple December Daily Album.

Journalling

We opened the New Year with a trip to Mullaloo Beach with family. We then went back to Lauren's house with the rest of the family to celebrate her birthday with morning tea and icecream cake!

Today I stayed with the plan. I made this photo fill the page and placed the number card in a blank space in the sky. I added the journalling and called it done. This was the last page in our December Daily 2019 album.

December Down Under Day 31: New Year’s Eve

I’ve rarely seen in the new year, but we do have a tradition of watching Oceans 11 and having an icecream on New Years Eve. We’ve been doing it for about 8 year - ever since we tried to hire Oceans from a video store in 2012. They didn’t have it so we bought a copy! This year we only got through half the movie before we heard fireworks and Phill headed over to dog-sit Kira for the rest of the evening.

December Down Under Day 31: Gifts

Some packages were delayed so we had an extra day of gifts!

Journalling

It may not look that exciting, but that battered Amazon box brought so much joy to our family! Inside were gifts all the way from Seattle!
We gathered back at the Okelys to open the presents and have some morning tea. There was great excitement as Minecraft Builders and Biomes, Fashion Plates and Hotwheels cars were opened. Bethel got a fun little locking puzzle too.

Today I recolored the number card and removed the border and added a fun embellishment. I wanted to hightlight the tree with a vertical photo (even if the angel is missing a head!). Flergs clusters made this page fancy and easy!

December Down Under Day 29: Treats for the Cockies

Every day this month I'm sharing my simple December Daily pages. Today's photo isn't Christmassy but it's a fun addition of some wildlife to our album!

We have had fun growing sunflowers these past two years. We got the seeds from John originally. We grow them but the corellas and 28s love eating them! It’s been so much fun having the birds in our garden that we may not have many seeds for next year!

Another simple one today! I made this photo fill the page horizontally and placed the number card in a blank space. I added the journalling and called it done.

December Down Under Day 25: Christmas Lunch

We have lunch with our family on alternating years. This year we celebrated with the Shanhuns.

Journalling

This year, we had Christmas lunch with the Shanhun family. The highlight of the day was Kath’s ridiclously wrapped gift. Inside the pass-the-parcel was a photo of her puppy Toby - she’s getting a puppy! Watch this space! A close second was the bonbon whistle ensemble conducted by Les. It was so hilariously awful.

Most days I keep to a plain white background. This one isn't even a textured paper!

I made this photo fill the page and placed the number card in a blank space. I added the journalling and called it done! YAY!

December Down Under Day 25: Christmas Morning Tea

I just couldn't resist including more photos today! The children loved seeing their grandparents and cousin.

We usually gather for morning tea with the Okelys. This year Lauren, Caitlin, John, Kaitlin and Bethel we able to join us. As well as a lovely morning tea with Christmas treats. We were so excited to give Bethel the doll cot that Phill and I made for her.

I used lots of the photos on today's page - I just couldn't help it. I butted the photos up against each other and tried to balance the page with the size of the number card/

The Okelys celebrated together with a Boxing Day lunch. It was a warm day, but we still managed to play some backyard cricket and try out Edward’s Zing Bails.

December Down Under Day 24: Christmas Eve

I had to embellish this page a little more than usual! Christmas Eve documented with a family picture with the tree.

Journalling

Usually, we would take a family photo on Christmas morning. In front of the tree, with all our gifts. But this year I thought it would make the day easier if we took out family Christmas photo before we left for our traditional Dome afternoon tea + 5:30pm Christmas Eve Service at church. It turned out to be a great idea!

December Down Under Day 24: Christmas Eve Traditions

Every day this month I'm sharing my simple December Daily pages.

Earlier this year I completed my 10th Christmas album. Over the past few years, I've used the motivation from the Scrap Happy Layout a Day Challenge to help me finish a bunch of pages of my projects.

For my 2019 album, I went back to digital scrapbook pages to make it simpler to use photos from our all cameras and phones.

Each year, on Christmas Eve, wwe get out our plastic Coca-Cola plate and cup and set up a little something for Father Christmas. Santa stops by our house to leave a little something in our stockings. This year Lucy put a mini stocking on Mum & Dad’s door too, and we were excited to see he left something for us too! Everyone received Lego Movie 2 figurines - and was excited to get Dorothy as she’d been in the Wizard of Oz Ballet this year. Lucy loves to pose and curtsey for the photos! December Down Under Day 22: Carols in the Park

For 27 years, True North Church has hosted a free carols event in a local park at Heathridge with 10 000+ attending. This page is bittersweet as I know so many of you around the world, and even in Australia will not be able to gather in such large numbers.

Journalling

This was the first time in a few years that we have gone to the Heathridge Carols in the Park as a family. We got to sit with our Connect group and family.

Matthew fell asleep during the last song and Phill couldn't rouse him for the fireworks.

Today I collaged some photos together and added some sparkling glitter bursts to mimic the firstworks finale.

With journalling, a number to finish it off!

December Down Under Day 21: Christmas Spectacular

In 2019, we were able to to attend Hillsong's Christmas Spectacular. It was so much fun to celebrate together!

Journalling

Lauren invited us to the Hillsong Christmas Spectacular in Perth. It was fun to see it with most of the Okely family and to see what church at the Octagon Theatre is like. It was and amazing night. The music was beautiful, they had lots of fun interactive elements for the children and who doesn’t love streamers and confetti in a finale! We will be back next year!

December Down Under Day 20: Gingerbread

Today it was all about making some special gifts for our family and friends. There's something adorable about the little children's attempts at decorating.

Journalling

Instead of giving gifts to our adult relatives in December, we make gingerbread as a token of our love. We make the dough together. We have to refrigerate the dough before rolling it out and cutting the shapes. 10 minutes in the oven and it's done. The hardest part is waiting for it to cool before we decorate it with homemade icing with our stash of baking decorations.
