I am being abandoned!

Well......maybe I exaggerate a little, but my Mum is deserting me for a whole week! She is going to Ganny's without me as they are going on a short break to Wales. I do hope she hasn't forgotten the useful phrases I taught her before we went to Wales last September. No doubt she will still remember how to order a whisky if nothing else.........

And so I am being left in charge of Other Mum and KC; I will have my paws full, no doubt. I am hoping I can get Other Mum to take me on a few outings, as I want to show off my new collar set. Yes, I know, it's a bit of a turn around for me, isn't it?! From the dog who had "one to wear and an old one for spare" I have now had 3 collars in the last 6 months. Not up to Bunny's standard admittedly, but nevertheless....

Now isn't this just one of the nicest collars that you have seen? It was made for me by my good friend MeggieMoo and her "Muvva" who own a fantastic dog accessory business in Denmark called MeggieMoo-collars, coats and more. Moo and her family come from the UK but when they moved to Denmark, good collars were hard to find, so they started making their own. Mum says she couldn't be more pleased with my new collars. Muvva even lined my martingale with purple cotton and put purple velvet on the back webbing! She ordered them last Sunday and they arrived on Friday. Moo ships all over the world, so if you are looking for a collar, coat, fleece, jimjams, lead or harness, you really should check her out.

This is MeggieMoo. You can read all about her life here. She's had some real ups and downs but now she is safe and loved with all her family and shares her home with foster dogs too.

One of the reasons that Moo and I became friends was because of her brother "Thick Harris" or "Fik" to his friends. Fik is like my body double, I honestly doubt you could tell us apart, although Fik is actually a lurcher, having a bit of Saluki in him.

Here I am asleep in my purple velvet smoking jacket.....or house collar as some lesser mortals call them. See? Already I am being made to sleep outside....Whatever will become of me?

A Trip Down Memory Lane....

When we last visited Ganny for her birthday, the weather wasn't that great, but on our final day, the sun came out and so Mum decided we should take a drive out into the countryside.

Mum took us to a little village called Berkswell that is located between Birmingham and Coventry. When Mum was little it was in the County of Warwickshire, but now resides in the somewhat less glamourously named West Midlands! Not that anyone from Berkswell would ever admit to that.....

Mum took Ganny, Other Mum and me there, because her and Ganny have very fond memories of the village from when Mum was young. She says that her Grandad, Nanny and all the family used to drive out there on a Sunday afternoon, have a picnic and then call in at the village pub on the way home!

This house dates from the 17th century.

You don't see many red telephone boxes anymore....at least not in working order!

The church of St John the Baptist dates from the 1100's

Another reason Mum likes the village so much is because her Great Grandmother was born there sometime in the 1870's

Great Grandmother was born in one of these whitewashed cottages, but Mum isn't sure which one.

The stocks on the village green are just opposite these cottages...I wonder if any of my relatives had the pleasure?! It's a bit difficult to see from this picture, but the stocks only have 5 leg holes, and it is said that this is because they were built specifically for a drunken 1 legged soldier and his two drinking companions!

The village pub, The Bear Inn dates back to the 16th century. It belongs to a chain now, but Mum says it still feels like the little village pub she remembers from her childhood.... (that'll be getting on for 40 years ago then, Mum!)

You will often see this image of The Bear & Ragged Staff, as it is the emblem of the county of Warwickshire.

After all that exploring I thought we deserved a nice cool drink....and anyway, a post wouldn't be complete without a picture of me, would it?!

Today is my 6th birthday! I suppose I'm middle aged now, but I don't really feel it. I do wonder, however, if I can now sleep 21 hours a day and not just 20?...........

I've had lots of lovely presents and good wishes from my friends; I feel a very lucky boy.

Mums' bought me this lovely new bed and a pad to make it super soft.

Oh yes, very comfortable.....

Enough with the camera! I need to test it properly......zzzzzzzzzz......

These are the rest of my cards and presents. Ganny sent me a tenner this year.....that's inflation for you! I also had some dried liver slices and an unstuffy duck (or is it a chicken?) and an unstuffy chipmunk (that looks like a squirrel)

I even had a card from Beckett, Veil & Maddy over at Home Is Where The Hounds Are in Canada!

Best of all, Mum made me a cake! It is Fishy Fudge Cake with cream cheese and pumpkin frosting.

Ooooh this looks nice!

Certainly beats kibble for breakfast......

Is there anymore Mum?!

I am just going to have a little nap to sleep off my breakfast and then Mum and I are going to go on a nice walk. After that, I might just spend the rest of the day doing this.......

Today I would like to tell you about my new treats that I baked earlier this week. They are called Cheesy Pumpkin & Marmite Bites. (catchy name huh? hmmmmm.....)

You will need:

1/3 can of pure pumpkin

1tbs coconut oil (heated to dissolve)

1tbs grated cheese (Cheddar, Parmesan....)

1 clove of garlic, finely grated

1/2 tsp Marmite, dissolved in 1tbs hot water

3tbs porridge oats / oatmeal

rice flour. (this is added last - use enough to bind the mixture together)

Simply place all the ingredients in a bowl and bring together with a knife and then your hands (or paws...) until you have a scone-type mixture that you can roll out. If you add too much flour, and the mixture is too dry, add a little milk or more coconut oil.

Roll out the mixture to around 1/2 inch and cut out shapes. I used a 3cm circle cutter, This makes around 50 biscuits.

Place them on a baking sheet and cook in a 170 centigrade oven for around 30 to 40 minutes.

Well, the proof of the pudding, as they say.............

Oh yeah Mum......now that is good!

If you are in the UK, Pure Pumpkin (not the pie filling) can be found in Waitrose stores and some branches of Tesco in the World Foods isle

Coconut Oil is available in health food shops and most Asian supermarkets. It is meant to do wonders for the skin and coat, so I'm taking it on a daily basis now!

Ganny's 80th Birthday!

Tomorrow my Mums and I are off to visit Ganny for a few days, but this time it is a very special occasion! My Ganny will be 80 on 17th May! (I was going to schedule the post, but last time it didn't work, so I'll have to do it today instead!) In all honesty Ganny isn't very keen on the whole 80 thing and doesn't want a fuss. I don't think she can quite believe she is that age......and neither can we. It is quite likely that if anyone sends her a birthday card with 80 on it, they will live to regret it!!

Ganny would have a fit if I put a recognisable picture of her on my blog, so here are her hands feeding me bikkies in bed!

Mum and I would just like to say how grateful we are for everything Ganny has done for us. Mum's list is way too long to mention... When Mum first had Flynn, Ganny was actually quite scared of big dogs. Imagine that! Yet she welcomed him and then me into her home and loved us like we were her own. She's pretty special is my Ganny.

Bran is a rescued Greyhound who lives with his family in Dorset. He was rehomed by Greyhound Lifeline, a branch of the Retired Greyhound Trust, based in Hampshire. Ganny's again!

As many of you will know, Mum and I visited Ganny last week. I see it as a good chance to relax.......

......because I hardly ever get the chance to do that at home.....

But I digress. Ganny has quite a large garden that attracts a lot of other animals. I spotted several cats, some squirrels, a fox and lots of birds! Sadly Mum wouldn't let me chase any of them....... she has no sense of humour you know. So I had to make do with investigating after the event.

Yep. This is the route the fox took.....

Hmmmm. Signs of nut burying.......

This was taken seconds before Mum shouted "you will get your ar*e kicked if you lick that bird poo!"

And then it was time to have a break with a pig's ear.

Of course the best thing is that I can do proper zoomies in Ganny's garden! She even had the lawn mowed to make it even more like a race track!

But all good things must come to an end......and as some of you will know, this did in rather a bloody fashion. (It was super fun though!)

Hello everyone

I am broadcasting to you from my sickbed......I have a Poorly Paw.

Whilst at Ganny's this week I managed to cut my toe while doing zoomies in the garden. Now, those of you who know Bunny from Tales and Tails will have heard that one of the irrefutable facts about Greyhounds is that we are made of spun sugar and therefore melt if made to go out in the rain. I can confirm that this is completely true.

One of the lesser known facts is that if you prick us we don't just bleed, we BLEED! Following the incident Mum discovered me in Ganny's garage by following the huge droplets of blood that led there. She was quite expecting me to be unconscious having severed a main artery, but no, I was closely examining a bag that contained pigs' ears, while blood pumped from a small cut on my toe. By the time she got me into the kitchen, made me lie down and had cleaned up the wound, she looked a bit like an extra from The Shining and the kitchen floor hadn't fared much better.

Mum told everyone how good I was for not chewing off the sock that covered my bandage........until she found that I had spent all night licking it into a sodden mess that had removed the bandage underneath. The air went a little blue for a while.....until Other Mum remembered that the supermarket sold something very like Vet Wrap, and so, for once, they had me licked!

I am still walking on three legs....until I forget and then run around the lawn. Hopefully I will only need the bandage on for another 2 or 3 days.

Aunty Lou is coming to stay with us for a few days tomorrow, so I shall be absent once more for a little while. Hope you all have a good week....and watch out if you are planning on any zoomies...

It was Mum's birthday earlier this week, so Other Mum took a few days off work. The weather was sunny and dry (it won't last!) so we decided to take the opportunity to get out and about. Good choice Mum.....I thought for one minute you might decide to go to the pub!!

The most exciting thing is that I had my first "off lead experience" in an open space! Because we don't have dog parks or access to anywhere enclosed (except the tennis courts) Mum wants me to be able to walk off lead in relatively safe places. She took me to the reservoir, took a deep breath and let me go! Just for a few minutes at a time, and I was really good; didn't go nuts or anything!

There was a lot to catch up on!

Mums decided to take me to the canal, the idea that the tow path is narrow and straight and not many options if I did a runner! Unfortunately our usual place was closed for maintenance and there were too many walkers and cyclists about, so I had to stay on lead, but it was fun and good to be out with both of them.

I do hope no one wants to come through this lock Mum!

Spring must be here...The geese were building a nest.

The next day, and the weather was still good (if not a tad windy) so we drove to Gargrave in the Yorkshire Dales and walked along the canal there.

The narrowboat was just about to enter the lock.

We passed a field where the farmer had been feeding his sheep and they were all hurrying back to their usual field, following each other......like sheep!

It was so windy, poor Mrs Sheep was doing a bit of a Marilyn Monroe with her wool!

Bottoms up! Time for an en-route snack.....

You can't really tell, but I was tied to this gate to stop me blowing away!

All in all it hasn't been a bad week, and tomorrow I am off to see Ganny. As regular readers will know, this is one of my favourite things. The only downside is nice weather + big garden = bath time! I'm half hoping it might be cool and showery!

A few weeks ago I was contacted by Vets Food World and asked if I'd like to review any of the complete dog kibble that they sell. Those of you who have been reading my blog for a while will know that around 18 months ago I developed severe and prolonged EBI (Expolding Bum Issues) which lasted about 6 weeks but left me with occasional problems for the next 6 months. During that time my Mums did lots of experimenting with my food and eventually settled on a brand of kibble that seemed to suit me best. With hindsight, we don't thing the problems were linked to allergies, just the prolonged affects of the infection, but nevertheless they have remained wary about brands that they feed me.

My current brand is a salmon & potato variety as Mums have been keen to avoid too much wheat. Unfortunately it is quite hard to source. We buy it from Tesco, but have only ever found one branch that sells it. Hence Mum had started wondering if she should try me on another brand, should my own cease to exist!

So, while she would usually turn down requests for food reviews, she thought this would be a good chance to try me on something different.

Mum chose the Wafcol Adult Ocean Fish and Corn as it is hypoallergenic, containing no wheat, gluten, meat or dairy products.

I can smell the fish Mum!

The food is "Sensitive Design" and Wafcol claim that it may sooth allergic reactions including eczema, diarrhoea and colitis. It also contains a prebiotic to help improve digestion.

It has Omega 3&6 for a healthy coat and skin. Like I could get any more handsome!

Mum introduced the food gradually over a 2 week period, mixing it with my regular kibble. The Wafcol has larger pieces than my current brand, and Mum wondered if I might choke as I tend to bolt my food. We had this problem previously, but I seem to have learnt to chew and happily crunched up most of the larger pieces!

I rarely eat kibble on its own, though I will. I like cooked and raw vegetables, liver, heart, chicken, sardines and raw pet mince (though not all at the same time!) I'm not adverse to garlic sausage either, but that's just for a treat!

Wafcol gets the thumbs up from us, Mum likes that it is hypoallergenic and feels confident feeding it too me. I can report totally normal poos since I started eating it!

I just think it tastes nice!

And the crunchiness helps with my Mum's obsession with keeping my teeth clean!

The Adventure continues........

After getting close up and personal with the whale - thanks for that Beckett, we really needed somewhere cosy to spend the night. Fortunately Beccy had spotted a sign to a campground called Meat Cove.....which sounded like it might be our destiny....so we headed that way. Then we saw this sign.

I was really excited about seeing a real live Moose, but Beckett said they were pretty antisocial. So when we finally saw one and I got out of the car to play tuggy rope with it, he did kind of do his nut.

Fortunately unscathed, we headed for the camp ground in the hope of finding somewhere to stay.

I had to hand it too Beckett; he found a really cool trailer for us to spend the night in. We were kind of sorry to leave. Well, that was until Beckett "borrowed" some chicken from our neighbours and then we had to leave in a bit of a hurry....

We stopped along the way and had a lovely picnic that our friend Twiggy Greyhound had sent us.

I thought after yesterday's escapade, we needed to relax a little, so I had organised a little surprise for Beckett at an exclusive spa hotel

We had a fantastic game with the football Beckett had remembered to bring and wore ourselves out.

We slept like logs....so much so Beckett didn't even unmake his bed, which isn't like him at all. When we were at the spa I managed to "acquire" gifts for Beckett's sisters, Veil & Maddy. Can you see the monogrammed robe and lots of girly smelly toiletries?!

In fact we slept so well we missed breakfast. We were kind of cross about that so we left quickly....avoiding reception in the process.....if you get my drift.....ahem

It was our final day on the trail, so we wanted to do something memorable.......famous last words.....

Beckett booked us in for a tour of the Glenora Distillery.......oh yeah....and a tasting session.... You can probably imagine can't you.....?

Yup.....the inevitable happened and this is where we spent the night. Whaddya mean, drunken bums?!

After some very strong coffee in the morning, Beckett drove us back to Nanny's house where we collected KC before heading for the airport.

It took forever to load KC's luggage into the car (she had one new case solely dedicated to Canadian bacon & maple syrup) and I think she was in two minds about leaving Nanny.....but finally we were on our way.

We had an emotional farewell at the airport, but it is not (entirely) true that both Beckett & I broke down sobbing......ahem.

We had some fun at check in, as KC decided that the nice lady needed persuading that we should be upgraded....and we all know how KC "persuades" people.....

They said I could order anything I wanted in First Class, so I did; a lamb bone! I think KC was a little appalled..... By now we were looking forward to getting home, and maybe missing our Mum's just a little bit.....

All Aboard!!

Good morning everyone and a very Happy Easter to those of you who celebrate it.

KC and I have had a marvellous time aboard ship. We boarded on Thursday and today is our last full day on board. The time has just flown by!

We have been very lucky with the weather. Not a cloud in the sky from the moment we boarded.

KC, oddly, has been a reformed character, and, well, really, I think I might quite like her..... and I don't mean as an Hors D'oeuvre. After we had found our cabin and settled in, she told me she had organised a tour of the ship's kitchen for me......

Can you believe this?! I got to do a bit of sampling too. Unfortunately all the excitement caused me to become rather well acquainted with the mini bar and the red wine therein. And then, well, I became a little tired and emotional....and I was missing my Mums too. It should be noted that KC had no such qualms and was seen dancing the night away in her sparkly red tutu.......

The next day I felt dog rough and good for nothing. A spot of sunbathing seemed in order...zzzzzzzzzz.....

I knew I had to pull myself together as on Friday night it was the Captain's Cocktail Party. There wasn't room with all of KC's luggage for me to pack my Dinner Jacket, but at least I had my bow tie.

I danced the night away with the Captain's wife and ended up watching the sun rise from the poop deck. I assume it is called "poop deck" for a reason?.........ahem.......

On Saturday KC and I explored the ship. KC balanced carefully on the rail to see if she could see Beckett, Veil and Maddy waving from Canada. She does have rather a vivid imagination........

We spent a quiet evening, having had two nights on the tiles and awoke feeling beautifully refreshed this morning, for our last full day on board.

I've heard rumour of a farewell party this evening, so best take it easy today. Beckett and the girls meet us tomorrow when the ship docks in New Brunswick. Then the adventure begins (after we've dropped KC off at Nanny's house...)

Beccy and Deccy's Excellent Adventure.

My friends, I am here to bring you some exciting news. Those of you who are also Facebook friends will know that soon I am off to Canada to join my best mate Beckett from Home Is Where the Hounds Are on a cool road trip around the Cabot Trail on Breton Island in Nova Scotia.

It all began because, well, Beckett & I were a little worried that we might be seen as Mummy's Boys. You may find that hard to imagine when you look at two strapping lads like us......or you might think the crying whenever our Mums leave the room gives it away...

So we decided we needed to prove we could stand on our own four paws and show just how manly we are. Beckett said he knew something about the Cabot Trail as his Mum & Dad had been there, and then when he mentioned we could "borrow" his Dad's convertible, a plan was born!

So I leave on Thursday by ship with KC. Oh did I forget to mention that KC is coming with me? I can't say I'm happy, but Beckett's Nanny Jean (you may remember that she knitted my lovely green sweater) wanted to meet her, so KC is going to stay with her whilst Beckett and I go adventuring.

Well I need to make sure I fit in.........

We arrive on Monday 1st April. (Is that prophetic, I wonder...) and will be met at the Port of St. John, NB by Beckett and his two lovely sisters Veil & Maddy. I'm quite excited about meeting them and Nanny and Beckett's Mum. (I'm not so sure about his Dad, given that we are "borrowing" his car, and Beckett says we have to leave under the cover of darkness....)

I think the girls would quite liked to have come with us but we told them this was a boys only trip. We have our leather jackets, we have our Wayfarers and we are ready to roll!

Spoiled Again!

As many of you will know, I spent all of last week at Ganny's. And as ever she spoiled me rotten.

Ganny had cooked liver and carrots for me when we arrived. Regular viewers will note that I have my bowl stand with me this time......well done Mum.

I keep forgetting to show you the calendar I made Ganny for Christmas. First Flynn, and now I make her one every year.

May definitely has the best photograph! Both Ganny & I have our birthdays in May.

Ganny and Mum were having dinner one evening (whilst I lay patiently on the floor chanting "drop the steak, drop the steak" under my breath) when Mum noticed the security lights had come on outside. She looked out and there were TWO CATS staring in at us through the window!

The first one ran off before Mum could get the camera out but this fella was a really cool customer. Bl**dy cheek! Mum thought I might attempt to throw myself through the window but I was actually very good. I don't really bother unless the little critters make a run for it! Anyway, there was the steak to think about.....

The weather was a bit on the inclement side, so Ganny didn't feel like going out much

That's okay Ganny. I'm more than happy to just take it easy.........

Back home the weather is seriously inclement.......and very windy! This was taken yesterday (do you think she gets some sort of sadistic pleasure from making me look stupid...?) but today the snow is much worse. Mum had to shovel 18" away from the door so I could get out for my wees!

So you know what I'm going to do today, don't you?
