Stuff isn’t great in a small home, so designing a kitchen that is attractive, functional, and small is always a challenge. I find it difficult to pick out appliances, cupboards, countertops and accessories individually, I get overwhelmed, so I’m loving that more companies are designing entire kitchens that come as a package with everything thought out in detail.

The Touch Tatoo Kitchen from TM Italia, one of my favorite companies, is compact, functional, and stylishly modern. When closed, everything is hidden in compartments. Cabinets and drawers open electronically with just a touch, and doors disappear so they aren’t in the way, important in a small house. The outside and inside are available in different colors so you can customize the kitchen to your decor.

I introduced you to a more ornamental radiator before that I loved for the design, but the Decor Radiator from Deltacalor does double duty as a mirror making it perfect for small bathrooms or even a bedroom.

Finding products that make your small house plan work, while also providing another use, is critical to saving space. The Decor Radiator comes with options for holding towels, can blend into any decor and even resists steam! No more waiting for the mirror to clear before you start preparing for your day.

These stairs, designed to fit in the space of a closet, are very unique. I love the lines of the angles and the wood grain. I don’t think the design would work with carpet. I’m not sure how safe they would be with small children, or adults that are balance challenged like myself (I trip going UP normal steps!), so I would probably need to see them in action before making a final decision on using them permanently in my own small home design.

I’m not one for gimmicks usually, but I love the soft light of this table and can imagine changing the colors for the season, or when guests are invited for special occasions. Not having to commit to one color is a positive as I’m not sure I would choose a primary colored dining room table as the focus when decorating a small home if I would be stuck with it forever.

The design of the seats really stands out. Based on a horse saddle, the seats provide ergonomic support for your back while also giving you a place to keep your drink (which I’m not sure if that’s handy or a really bad idea since my drink of choice is wine). There is also a light available to match the table which is basically an upside down version of the table, making very interesting lines in your interior design. The light has color filters available to complement the table or create contrasting interest.

For me, the Moooi is it. There is no competition, it was love at first sight. Our main house is decorated in what I call a modern French Country design, with the predominant colors being black and white with bright accents in different rooms. The downstairs is mostly red accents, the boys room has green accents, middle son has blue accents and our daughter has pink accents of course.

Finding a black or white couch is difficult unless you want leather, a fabric that shows every fuzz, or want to replace it every year due to having four kids. Until now. The Moooi is available in 15 different fabrics and 5 different legs that can give the couch a modern, futuristic, or elegant look. This is truly a couch that can set your small or tiny house apart.

I’ve also been thinking about having the beds built into the home in order to save more space. With single beds there are more options, like murphy beds that can be put away during the day so the kids have more space to play, without being too cumbersome to actually use. I don’t think I would actually use a queen sized murphy, so I’m not considering it, although they are perfect for small home designs.

The Lollipop bunk beds by Bonbon in the UK are exactly what I’ve been thinking about for the kids rooms. At just 31 cm deep (someone else can do the math to transform that to inches) it’s the perfect size, I love the modern clean lines, the storage at the top, and the ladders for the top bunk that are designed just for the bed. They can also be painted for a personalized touch which is wonderful for kids.

Outdoor rooms have been gaining popularity, and I think they are the perfect addition to a tiny house, especially if you live in the south. For now I’ll dream about warm weather and decorating a huge patio.

The Dodaz Outdoor Sofa is made with rust and corrosion proof aluminum with weatherproof Outdura™ fabric. It’s available in lots of colors but I kind of like the blue, it reminds me of the ocean even though we are nowhere near the coast. I also love that two people can lie next to each other, perfect for reading or gazing into your special someone’s eyes on a warm afternoon.

The beautiful thing about a tiny house is that you aren’t bound on the outside, so you can add all the little nooks you want inside like a reading space or even an outdoor fireplace, without taking up square footage.

The Suspended Toilet and Bidet from Simas are small enough to make a difference in a tiny house plan, without lacking in modern appeal. Currently we have 2 fridge/freezer combinations in our main house, and a single side-by-side in the cottage. I don’t like side-by-sides because there is never enough room for large trays, we have a lot of company and buy in bulk since we have 4 kids. While I love the idea of the drawer fridge, I still wonder where we would put the milk, large juice containers, pitchers, etc.

The corner fridge by Norcool is ingenious for two reasons. The first is that it’s HUGE without taking up a lot of floor space. The inside is the size of 4 normal refrigerators, amazing. The second reason I love the Norcool is that it takes advantage of the dead corner design issue that occurs in kitchens all across America. No more lazy susans, cabinets at weird angles, or dead space that can’t be used at all. Now small kitchens can handle big appetites!
