i’ve posted these many times before, but as i just washed all the construction dust off them and they are looking especially spiffy today, i thought i’d post one more time. amongst my most treasured possessions, my dad fished these japanese fishing floats out of the water in the pacific during WWII, and continued through this navy career. these are just a fraction of his collection. it’s important to surround ourselves with objects that have meaning to give life to our homes. in the words of @patrickjhamiltondesigns “without the final layer, you’ll just end up with an apartment that looks like it’s been robbed”.🤣🤣🤣

i sorta wish i could put up my #xmas tree his year, but it was always a several day labor of love attaching the 100’s of ornaments, so now with my hands not working as well as they used to, it would take a week. i’d have to leave it up until march to justify the effort and i don’t want to be that “year round xmas gay” just yet- gotta save something for my old age! plus, last time i put it up, several branches didn’t light, and after sitting in the box for several years, i’m sure i’d be looking at rewiring big chunks, which sounds as appealing as sticking my hand into a fire. but i’ll always have pictures! it was the prettiest goddamned tree ever (if i don’t say so myself) and i vow to resurrect her again one day... just not this year. so maybe i’ll attach jingle bells to doris, and call her my christmas decor! that and a poinsettia, and boom- done! 🤣🐕😢🎄#maison21

#tbt there is a great article in the new yorker this week about #hgtv. i suggest y'all read it. in the meantime, here's a home i designed a while back for an episode of #househuntersrenovation, where yes, in typical hgtv fashion i made a homeowner's dream of open plan living come true!🤣🤣🤣someday, when i launch my new website and blog, i'll tell you all about the adventure since my planned publicity around the episode never happened as i was fresh out the the hospital when it aired, and had vey limited use of my hands. it was an experience i'm glad i participated in, but boy was it stressful. the results are nice though, and the homeowners got an instant equity bump, so all's well that ends well. #maison21 #interiordesign #interiors #christianmay #losangeles 📷@tessanuestadt, styling by #jamesbender.

after almost 2 years, i finally moved my rehab bed out of my dining room (with the help of a good friend). the bed stayed because of a) inertia and b) i've had so many setbacks since my spine surgery that i was scared perhaps i would need it again if i had trouble getting up and down the stairs. time to let that go! no more setbacks! i sold my dining chairs to a client a loooong time ago, and since i doubt hosting dinners is in my future anytime soon, i'm enjoying the spaciousness of my tiny dining room without them. gives doris and i a place to play ball too! 🐶🎾#spinalcordinjury #rehab #design #art #interior #interiors #interiordesign #maison21 #losangeles

i've started working on a new website, and who knows, someday i might even blog again. feel free to enter your email to get an update if i do. don't worry about spam- post-surgery me will never have the manual dexterity to write a weekly news letter or anything crazy like that! in the meantime, as usual, follow me on instagram for cute pictures of my pets. twitter is all politics, and i'm not accepting new FB friend requests right now, though feel free to like my maison21 FB page. posts there are mostly my IG feed, with the occasional panda video or real estate listing, so something for everyone!

ok, so i SO hafta get rid of the starburst mirror in my entry way- it had its moment in 2005. but i'm kinda digging this ridiculously inexpensive tripody-telescopey 3 way LED lamp i just purchased with a credit from @lampsplus. it updates the space just enough that i no longer want to set 🔥 to the entryway when i walk in the door. i got a pair of them for under $100, and they'll eventually be my bedside lamps when summer is over (i have the dreaded inward swinging casement windows on either side of my bed so lamps are a hassle in summer). i also picked these because they pivot to direct the light down or against the wall. since i can't STAND seeing my light source in bed, the indirect reflected wall light works for me! i envisioned a pair of tizio lamps, but this is as close as i get- as a non-working designer, i can't even afford to aspire to champagne taste on a beer budget- more like tap water stolen from a neighbor's garden hose. 😆🤕💥#design ##designer #interior #interiors #interiordesign #interiordesigner #maison21 #losangeles #lighting
