Sept 2010 - Weddings

2010-10-01T11:04:00.000-07:00

The month of September has been busy. Shot a couple of weddings this month, the two featured weddings are posted on: www.pbase.com/sandychanphotography

Brandon, Dustin and Genkai - 08/2010

2010-08-25T10:06:00.000-07:00

These are the recent male model shoots that I've done:

Recently I noticed that I was missing some male model portraits in my portfolio. As the weather was so nice this summer, I thought that it would be good to get some beach shots. Shooting male models is easy (or less work) in that makeup artists are not required and the models would be ready to go when they arrive on set, but its often challenging to find the angle that captures and show their body in the best way through the use of light and shadows. I had a lot of fun doing these beach shoots!

Sonja - Bridal Shoot 07/24/10

2010-07-30T15:47:00.000-07:00

Cindy, the makeup artist, and I collaborated on a bridal shoot last weekend. I loved the natural makeup that Cindy put on Sonja; she looks stunning in her wedding gown. Here are my favorite photos from the photoshoot:

Amy - 07/11/10

2010-07-13T11:41:00.000-07:00

Amy wanted to do a beach bikini photoshoot. Thought that it would be a good opportunity to take my bike out for Amy to pose with~ My finger therapist (injured it from volleyball quite some time ago) suggested me to check out Crescent Beach, as there is nice scenary for the background and I can roll my bike in relatively easily. Glad we did it there. It's an awesome location and we picked the perfect time/day to go.

Katie - 06/29/01

2010-07-08T11:06:00.000-07:00

Long been waiting for a sunny day in Vancouver, Katie and I went to English Bay for a beach photoshoot. Katie's a great model. Although she's only 17, she connects with the camera very well~

Bridal Shoots

2010-07-06T14:47:00.000-07:00

I worked with several makeup artists recently to build up each others' bridal portfolio. With the great efforts of the artists, the brides look stunning!

Here are a few pics with Cindy (MUA) and Lola (Model):

Here are the ones with Vivian (MUA), Linda (Hair Stylist) and Mei Nor (Model):

Heather - 06/26/10

2010-06-30T14:59:00.000-07:00

Here are a few pictures taken with Heather, who is an international cheerleading team's coach. Tessa brought along a costume with her in doing her makeup too~ A 1980s with a very vibrant colors look?!

Vanessa - 06/20/2010

2010-06-21T14:44:00.000-07:00

I have long been waiting for this weather to do a photoshoot on the beach. The weather has not been cooperating for over a month now. Due to the unsteady forecasts, Vanessa and I could not firm up the details of our photoshoot until the day of the shoot. Except for getting a parking ticket and getting my cellphone wet on the beach, I'm quite happy with the results. Vanessa has a great attitude and she's a lot of fun to work with.

Gisela - 06/19/2010

2010-06-20T10:08:00.000-07:00

It was my first time working with Gisela. Tessa did a great job on this silver shimmery makeup.

Painting with Light - 6/10/2010

2010-06-10T16:20:00.000-07:00

Did some light painting with Matt and Jasmine today. The pictures look pretty cool don't you think?!

Various - 05/26/2010

2010-05-27T14:56:00.000-07:00

Tried out a couple of different lighting styles:

1) Flat lighting - strobe shooting from the ceiling above Vanessa; having a scrim on top of Vanessa's head creating a big light source, and 3 fill cards surrounding her (one in front of her bouncing light from strobe back to her face, and one on each side of her). Another strobe shooting at the background.

2) Shutter drag - 1 second exposure capturing the ambient light from the projected light (using colored glass bottles and gel cards) shooting at the background, while Melissa's accurately exposed as the main subject.

3) Gradient lighting - trying to create a lighting that is gradually fading off from one side to the other. On the subject, it's brighter on the right side than the left and on the background it's brighter on the left than the right.

Zombie Shoot - 05/24/2010

2010-05-24T16:11:00.000-07:00

Model Mandy, makeup artist Tessa and I did a slit-throat photoshoot a few months ago. Tessa is awesome with special effects makeup. The photos from the previous shoot looked very real:

This time we did a zombie theme. After 2 hours of makeup, we walked to an alley close by and took a couple of shots there. People were stunned of how Mandy looked and it was a lot of fun doing the photoshoot. The following are my favorites:

Katie - 05/07/2010

2010-05-10T13:22:00.000-07:00

Katie is very photogenic and I enjoyed capturing her beauty on camera. We did a photoshoot outdoors back in February, photos at http://www.flickr.com/photos/sandyhschan/sets/72157623264067995/
and we said we were going to do an indoors shoot sometime in the future. Thanks Katie for driving all the way from Surrey to do the shoot and the following are my favorites:

Erik - 04/28/2010

2010-05-02T20:13:00.000-07:00

What a rare opportunity that I got to take a few 'formal' pics of Erik. As much as he likes to take pictures himself, being a model and posing in front of a camera is a big no no for him. It wasn't easy to get a few natural, cool-looking poses...but we managed to pull it off near the end. Here are a few decent ones:

Melissa, Rob and Kevin - 04/2010

2010-04-20T12:21:00.000-07:00

These are photos taken in the month of April. While it's getting warmer and summer is approaching, might as well take advantage of the sun and do more shooting outdoors!

David Hamilton - 04/10/2010

2010-04-15T11:13:00.000-07:00

David and I did another photoshoot together in the past weekend. We have been brainstorming for a location. We found some good alleys in Downtown and we're both happy with how the pictures turned out. More pictures can be viewed at: http://www.flickr.com/photos/sandyhschan/sets/72157623847587028/

Ron - 03/06/2010

2010-04-13T15:54:00.000-07:00

My honour to have the opportunity to do a photoshoot with Ron. He was crowned Mr.World Canada in January 2010 and competed on the world stage in South Korea in March. He finished in the top 20 against 78 other country's top delegates!

Me and Rudy - 03/2010

2010-04-06T14:21:00.000-07:00

Took a few shots of Rudy and a few with myself using tripod.

Kevin - 03/20/2010

2010-03-22T11:40:00.000-07:00

Did some multiple exposures on Saturday. The picture below was a 30 second shot with Kevin doing 4 poses, each pose freezed with strobe light firing directly at him at a 45 degree angle. Kevin's great, very creative and came up with a lot of suggestions.

The 3 pictures below were about 3-5 sec exposure shots with strobe lights firing twice to capture Kevin's different poses/facial expressions.

Sica - 03/06/10

2010-03-17T09:55:00.000-07:00

These are shots taken in class at Langara. The objective was to use different style of lighting - hard/soft/rembrant/hair light...

Dave - 3/10/10

2010-03-15T17:15:00.000-07:00

Dave has his own massage business. He wanted to have a few headshots taken to promote his business. These are my favorites:

Carolina & Rob - 03/07/2010

2010-03-11T14:39:00.000-08:00

Carolina and her boyfriend, Rob, came by my studio for a sexy, drenched-in-water style of a photoshoot today. The couple looks stunning eh?!

Meg & Ed - 03/06/2010

2010-03-08T14:35:00.000-08:00

Megan and Edward are getting married this year. We've been waiting for a cherry blossom shoot for a while now, and the cherry blossoms are finally here!!! It was hard coming up with a location for this, but think we got some good ones~ What do you think?

David - 02/28/2010

2010-03-01T10:06:00.000-08:00

David studies acting at VFS. He wanted to do a beach shoot and we're so glad that the weather permitted us to do that yesterday. We went to Kits beach right before the Canadian Mens Olympic hockey game. It was nice meeting David and I just love his wardrobe!
