Words cannot express how much House Music has changed my Life. Age has no barrier in transformation or learning. I give thanks everyday for this music getting me through some of the peaks in valleys in this thing called Life.

I remember hearing on vinyl, 'What Is This Thing Called Love' by Alexander O' Neal as a child and losing my mind. First, I would look at the vinyl spinning on the deck and look at my mom. Secondly, I would twirl and dance in front of my mom and she would holler and yell in excitement and happiness because of the lyrics and beat.

However, when she played the 'Whistle Song' and 'Rain Falls', we would do the same, but dance in eternal joy, happiness and TOGETHERNESS united us.

Frankie Knuckles was from the Bronx, yes. However, he called Chicago home and crafted a sound that continues to affect the community and so many individuals, including myself, around the World. Hearing his music and mixes always had a level of Love, rawness, yet softness behind it. I would sneak and listen those tracks while my mom was asleep and sing at the top of my lungs until I got caught because a child, you were not to touch 'The Record Player', as mom ever so called it.

I can only fathom how Chicago and the World is taking this right now. I opened my page only to find that I saw his passing. He was JUST at WMC, smiling and taking pictures with fans, heads and fellow DJs. Shock ran through us all until it was confirmed. I have not cried this much since the passing of MJ. That one hurts and still hurts to this day. But this transformation of Life/loss stings just as bad, if not worse. Let me tell you why.

House Music is a soulful thing. I truly feel it within me and dance like no one is watching. I cry as if the Heavens opened up and shined down on me. Some people in my Life do not understand how or why I am a House Head or why I go out and do what I do for it. I sing (way off-key, sometimes) as if I am around a crowd of people and not caring what their faces are reading because I FEEL this music. Age has no bearing on one's experience and feeling when it comes to music. House Music was just that. Yes, we had other genres of music passing through the speakers in our home. But I never felt complete, until I heard House Music. I would hear the beat count and the stories being told. The melodies that unfolded and the amount of Love put into it. Frankie did that.

Although I never had the chance to formally meet him, I did catch one him on the streets in Miami during WMC. He was with a group of other individuals. Respect, yet humility exuded from him. To say the least, this had me awestruck. I could not even approach.

I have read several stories about individuals close to him and how kind, humble and good of a friend/mentor he was. Then I think about now and how some of DJs, icons and pioneers still live up to that legacy, especially with the youth. Through it all, he still smiled in his photos and shared through music. From what I have read from those closest with him, it was reciprocated both ways with Frankie and the beings he made interaction with. It is few and far in between nowadays. This is a wake-up call, in my opinion. We have to embrace different sounds of this genre and mentor the YOUTH in this movement. The YOUTH also have to do their research, ask questions and find out history about this movement. Thankful for individuals in my Life who have done that such thing. Continue to school me, educate me and enrich my LIFE in this thing called HOUSE MUSIC. We have to come together so we can leave a legacy for those in the future. We cannot let this movement SLIP AWAY from us and become a fad. It has nor will ever be a fad. We remain strong in our roots and like the roots of a tree when it is fed nourishment, it grows.

The pettiness of this movement from certain individuals, I tune out. One cannot waste time on it. You may not like a sound, but its roots stem from House. I read posts about people getting upset or complaining about certain sounds and how it has not roots in House. It may not be a major root, but it is a root that is getting nourished and fed. Respect that root and you shall be nurtured and rewarded as well. There needs to be a balance and I truly feel that if the balance were there, things would flourish. Stifling a root causes it harm and eventually, death. We cannot have that on our hands. House Music, in my opinion, is slowly starting to make a comeback. You hear it in certain songs. It may not be the Deep, Underground or 'soulful' sound that some of us may be used to, but it is House. I can still groove and smile to myself.

'This is only the beginning. We must push on...'

As I sit here and listen to Alexander Hope's Dancin', it only reconfirms that for me. Dance to whatever makes your heart happy. Do not stop because some individuals tell you, 'Oh that's not House...'

Granted, I have done this a few times, as well. However, I have learned to embrace so many different sounds that my feet continue to move.

A level of respect has to be given. In order to respect, it must be earned. Frankie earned that respect. Some people say he was underrated. I disagree. He was, in my opinion, looked up to and a huge influence in many DJs careers. If you were a DJ or a House Head and did not whom this individual was, I suggest doing your research before you claim otherwise. Still researching and finding artists who continue to pave the way in this thing we call House Music.

As for soul, the music that pumps through my speakers has rhythm, Life beats, a story either through instrumentation or vocals, highs and lows, and of course, a beautiful finish. My Heart sings of JOY and HAPPINESS!

Thank You for the music and the radiant smile you gave us all through pictures and the beautiful melodies you crafted. Although tears stream and sadness fills my heart, this House Head is humbled right now.

F.I.L.A.M. = Forever I Love ATLANTA Music

DISCLAIMER: If I forgot some tidbits, my apologies. Things were coming to my mind at that moment and HAD to get it out.

My apologies for the lack of posts. Life has kept me on my toes I am now in NYC and savoring all that it offers. Truly thankful for this experience. However, I am missing my Atlanta Music family right now.

Last night was a fine example: I got to see Kai Alce at Output. Anyone who know Atlanta KNOWS of Kai Alce. Yes, he is Detroit bred in his sound, but his home is ATL. I remember meeting this being at 16, while scoping records with my mom at Satellite Records (Rest In Peace). Such a humble being, yet a music connoisseur who could tell you EVERY single piece of info about a track. Talk about amazing! One of the 1st records I bought there was from Tortured Soul. I got home and played it on my Technics and the sound was Heaven to my ears.

I say all this to say: TREASURE those who impact the movement in the RIGHT direction. The uniqueness of our movement (notice how I did NOT say scene. That ends and another chapter starts. Movements shift and create energy) is what I love. As a young being in this movement, I am always amazed and blown away by the history that paved the way for many to do what they do in this city today. Still learning and growing from the experiences that I have encountered. From people playing at Ying-Yang Cafe, Kaya, MJQ, Backstreet and so many other joints. I can go to ANY city and when I mention Atlanta, I get a few of the following:

A) I did not know that you all had a scene there
B) Yeah I have people down there that do events
C) What's that event that happens every Labor Day? House In The Park, right? Friends of mine went and were blown away
D) Tambor is the lick! I have to make it down there for it.
E) There are some fine ass women who go to the events that I see in pictures and posts. What's their names?
F) Such a youthful and open quality that you rarely see. Keep it moving!

I remember one night while at MJQ dancing on stage with Rodney, RamonRawsoul approached me. No lie, I was wondering who the heck he was. He reached out to me to check out this event that he was doing at Candler Park called House In The Park. Changed me and turned me out. There was less than 200 bodies there. We are now celebrating its 10th year. About 10k the year before and one of my closest beings that I know. THANK YOU!

Meeting Salah Ananse one day through Nina and hearing his sound was like a butterfly emerging from its cocoon. He paid attention, got advice, took notes and BOOM! Respect, homie!

I remember mom coming home with Ron Pullman CDs and we jammed out. Letting the children have it and losing it all at once in the middle of May. Going to Earwax and seeing what Ron offered to everyone. Such a cool cat and I miss that sound...

Ausar bridging the Ancestral World with this realm always makes my soul sing. Opening up discussions and having powerful beings on panels that reach out to the masses. I have so much Love for this being. Respect!

The way Cullen Cole fuses B-Sides and Disco with some House favourites/rarities guarantees that all will be good while on the dance floor.

Meeting Kemit through moms and Kai, then being blown away at his sets at MJQ. Always showing Love to everyone and reaching out to those who want to know more. He keeps it funky, raw and soulful.

Going out to MJQ my first night and meeting Rodney Williams, Ruby Omar (Rest In Peace), Content, Soul, Twa, Talub, Tac, Shana, Isis, Cardrian, Pebbles, Jennifer, Brian Scarlett and so many others. Some of us danced to House Music and some House Dancers (there is a difference, you know...). Losing our ever-loving minds (sometimes clothing) whenever a track came out. The darkness of the club and the bodies all in motion...

Thankful to have met and know pioneers of this movement, even though some may not understand or fully grasp their sound. We are losing pioneers and we must respect and honor what we have.

My definition of Atlanta's sound: You have a conglomerate of cities that influence it. However, it is of our own. You have Chicago, Detroit, NYC, Milwaukee/St.Louis, London and so forth. You cannot just peg our sound just by hearing one DJ.

Sure, you can go The Gathering and hear RamonRawsoul and Kai Alce play. You hear their distinctive cities, BUT you do notice a variance of sounds that is blended into the sets, which makes my Heart sing. You can go to Tambor and hear Stan Zeff and DJ BE spin, but you hear their roots. Just listen.

Too many people pigeonhole one city's sound and honestly, it bores me. I cannot hear Afro all night. I cannot hear classics all night. I cannot hear Disco all night. I cannot hear Garage all night. Mix it up, folks! That is what makes House Music unique.

And to those who like to create ruckus for the simple fact to bring attention to themselves within our movement: Stop it. It ain't cute. I know for a fact that I will not be attending an event if all you do is bitch and whine about things that ABSOLUTELY have no merit. If you disagree with things that occur within our movement, reach out to the pioneers and get some knowledge before you spew inaccurate statements. I have had to distance myself from several due to this. I personally do not care nor want to contribute. We are here for the music, not ANYONE'S personal agenda. If you are of that Light, do us all a favor: remove yourself. You are only causing yourself more harm to your reputation than anything.

Our family may have its imperfections, but at the end of the day, we come together in the name of music. I am sick of outsiders coming in and saying rude things about our movement. If you do not know, ASK. To be honest, it is disrespectful and detrimental to you.

I get it. Your city knows House Music and do all that it can to preserve its sound. Although that may be the case, do not come to Atlanta and think that we are behind, some country ass bumpkins or lack knowledge. You may be surprised if you step outside the box and experience something brand new. Your ears will appreciate it. Trust me.

I may be in NYC and getting a taste of the movement here, but ATLANTA will always be my HOME!

I LOVE each and every single one of those who bring happiness to many on the dance floor.

The Atlanta Weekender/House In The Park

Wow!

Labor Day was INCREDIBLE and one for the books! Atlanta has shown and grown within the ranks of the House Music Movement in the states and Worldwide. The Soul, Ambiance and Youth behind it truly inspires me. What a perfect weekend to close out Labor Day than to have The Atlanta Weekender and House In The Park.

Thursday night: LoveSexy Party - What a way to kick off the weekender. Working the door for Nina and Salah Ananse is always a pleasure. I have known them both for many years and to be part of a wonderful event bringing diverse communities together is key. Sabine in the building! That is my sister (dancing and Spiritual). I love her to bits. I knew this was about to bananas! Cannot forget Rescue Poetix (Jersey in the building!) showing ATL love. DJ Kwest_On and Salah on decks. Hearing 'Scandalous' made me lose it at the end. Madam CJ and myself started singing. I remember as a child hearing that track from one of the Batman films and seeing the album cover. Talk about classic. Ran into so many wonderful souls that night. This was just the beginning...

Friday night: Moodymann x Kai Alce x Ron Trent (SoundTable) / Josh Milan x Sabine Blaizin X Salah Ananse (Space2): Bear with me on this one. So much aural stimulation was being given this eve that I did not know what to do with myself. Great to see Moodymann while eating dinner. As well as seeing Ron Trent chilling and another brother that I have not seen in ages. his name slips my mind. Nonetheless, having dinner and chilling with some Chi-town folk, I run into Justin (DJ AquaBeat). I am so used to seeing him with Cher, but she did not make it this time around (bummer!). We discussed so many things and how this weekend is gonna change his Life. Food comes out and we are all in bliss. I am always raving about The SoundTable and its food selection. The Brussels and Cauliflower combo is the business, though.

So walking into Space2, it is great seeing Nina once again, Francesca, James, Teya and so many other souls. I look up and Sabine is on the decks getting it! Something about her sound motivates me. She brings so much into it and yet, still has a beauty behind it. Sleep on her if you want, this woman is doing big things. I get my groove in and then I bump into the wonderful Josh Milan. Giving him the biggest hug known to man. When I tell you that the amount of Love that I have for this being is a lot, believe it. He is thankful and excited. The first thing I ask is if he will be here for House In The Park. His reply was yes! My chest bugled in excited and happiness for my city! Little did they know how amazing House In The Park is. I pop over to SoundTable next door and Kai is warming up the crowd. Shortly after, Moodymann gets on. That was bananas and packed out. I then knew it was about to be on. Getting my 'fro all hot and bothered over the amazing beats.

It was great to see the wonderful people dancing on deck. I pop back over to Space2 and Salah Ananse is on. Dropping goodness and getting the crowd hyped up even more. I swear Salah be bringing the pretty women all out. I guess it is a Libra thing. Nonetheless, this promises to be an amazing eve. Josh Milan steps on the decks...

Okay, he got to have his own diatribe for this because CHIIIILLLE: He truly showed out. The crowd slowly starts to grow bigger until it was PACKED OUT. He is banging out joint after joint. Even though in his blog, he stated that he played one track twice, that mug must have been seamless because I did not notice at all. The only thought running in my head, 'Pleeease someone play 'Inside Of Me'. That would SO make my evening...' . Hearing sounds that many do not play down here was comforting to myself. It was this one track he played and I started doing turns, dips and handstands on the floor. I am going to need for him to give me those so I can pay for my download. Just sayin'!
When I heard 'You Should Be Loving Me', I lost it! The crowd went nuts! Cortney, Rodney and myself immersed ourselves even deeper and we hugged. Oh yeah! Cannot forget when I heard 'I Might Do Something Wrong' and people started losing it, singing in unison AND yelling. That track is one of the FIRST tracks I heard while transitioning into a House Head. That track just does something to the 'heads who know what it is about. We LOVE YOU, JOSH!! Your set truly set the bar for me. I can truly say that not one I stopped dancing. I may do a two-step every now and then to certain DJs, but you had a sister moving. The vocals, soul and riffs you brought were truly needed. Oh yeah, you must have read my mind because you played 'Inside of Me'. I lost it! So great to hear it through some speakers. THANK YOU!!!

Way-ment (Wait a minute...), how Deetoy gonna get on and make me get on the wall?! I cannot! I remember hearing him at Salah Ananse's Afrique Electrique event and losing my ever-loving mind in 2011. Why did you all have to tease us with that?! Sherri, Sabine, Keely, Simone and myself are losing it. I look over and others are losing it, too. Saturday promises to be an amazing day! So why is Ron Trent bringing some Kerri Chandler and some House Classics at the end?! A sista is not complaining. We all are getting it in at SoundTable to the goodness! Thank You all!

Saturday Afternoon/Evening: Passport Party x SpreadLove x Carlos Mena: Smoothies were helping me a TON this weekend and this day was NO exception. Arrgh moving day! Motivation from the past two days kept me going non-stop and it was not about to end. As soon as I finished packing, I headed down to Space2 for the day event. Aquabeat is at it. Next up is Deetoy. LAAWD!!! Why was he getting it in with all of us?! I cannot! Myself and Sabine were working it like it is Jouvert at Carnival (well, it was Carnival up in NYC). I feel alive when I dance.

We all got it in, including King Casamena himself, Carlos Mena. That is my homie and one of the most amazing individuals I have met. So few make an impact within my Life through music and continue to be an inspiration. He was in town to do an event called Secrets, which never disappoints. After the Passport Day event, I quickly changed and said my hellos to DJ Kemit and Aishah. These two are ALWAYS working hard and on the go! One of many power couples in the A I have so much respect for! BIG UPS!!!!! Late nights with wonderful music with wonderful company.

Sidenote: Did I mention that my homegirl Emma from Montreal was in town? Talk about LOVE! what's up, lady? I have not seen her since WMC in Miami. Now you got something to tell your Montreal folk.

Sunday ALL DAY: HOUSE IN THE PARK 9/ AFTERPARTY: Arrived at the park around 11 or so. Tents ALREADY on deck. Folks were not playing this year. They said 8am that the park was gonna be available to the public. From what I heard, people were already lined up ready to get a spot. I said my hellos to so many beautiful souls, including Ramon's mom. She is a such a humble and honest soul. Words cannot express that enough. Thomas had the grill on deck with the Chicken Sausage. LAWD! That was a beast all in itself. I settle down and my mom comes soon after. This HITP was bittersweet for me. My last big bang in the ATL with so many wonderful souls. My goal was to keep it together emotionally, be jolly like I am everyday and to just have fun. As the music starts to vibrate through the speakers, the first pavilion fills up.

Kemit is on and I felt this energy. He played 'Hear My Call' and to see him intertwined within the track with his eyes closed, I felt Ruby. That was her track. It takes me back to one night at The Gathering and she asked me to go up to the booth to ask Ramon to play that track. Anyone knows, I would NEVER do that, but at that moment, it was what she wanted to hear to uplift her spirit. When he did, to see her in her element brought tears to my eyes. She was a fighter until the end. I digressed and then the tears flowed. We had a mutual friend there and he caressed my back, knowing that all would be okay. I felt her smiling and the energy was just beautiful. I needed that moment to just focus and give thanks. The last time I saw her at HITP, Kai was on. Rodney and myself were dancing, she approaches us and gives us hugs. We cry in joy and gratitude.

I miss you Ruby...Rest In Paradise!

Snapped back and started dancing once more. The energy was getting out of control. By this time, Salah is on and we are all hooting and hollering in full-blown ecstasy. The energy was different somehow this year and I cannot put my finger on it (in a beautiful way, of course). For me, the number 9 signals completion. The City of Atlanta gave Ramon a proclamation and made it an official festival. Congrats to all who put the WORK in.

Back to the music, donation boxes being passed around, Tracy twirling and smiling, Nina fanning and snapping/shooting video for all, seeing Chicago fam getting it in!

Highlights: At the beginning, Kemit was still on and the dance floor opened. Let me address this and leave it at this: I am all for people having cypers/circles and whatnot. Hell, sometimes I jump in. Just UNDERSTAND that the pavilion is ALREADY packed with people, DO NOT take up space. It kills the energy and people just stand around and STARE. We are here to release and dance in the name of Music and our Ancestors. I do not want to see someone DANCING and taking up space. It ANNOYS me to no end. So this is what Fahamu and myself implement: Operation Break-Up Circle. Not even after we stepped in, the circle ceased. I stated that I WILL NOT HAVE THAT HAPPENING and it ceased. Our ancestors want us all to rejoice! And that's exactly what happened. This young sister came up to me, grabbed my hands and we both danced. That is what means SO much to me! To see the youth interacting with its elders. Dancing is my Heart and Soul. I can only hope that this city understands its effect on the youth in the dance community. WE HAVE to come together.

- Seeing Carlos Mena, Deetoy, Kai, Kemit, Salah Ron Trent in the booth while Ramon is beating 'Work that Motherfucker'. I LOST IT! Cortney and myself are on the table and TWERK TEAM was on and poppin'! I appreciate Ramon bringing the Chicago flair, but also respecting all levels of Music. Thank You!

-Alison says hello to my mother, who has attended EVERY House In The Park. She explains to my mother about my departure to the Big Apple and my mom makes this face. The next thing I know, I am in tears!! Goodness gracious, Alison! I LOVE YOU!

- Kai Alce on the decks and Frankie Knuckle's 'Whistle Song' come on and I in tears once again. This House In The Park was very emotional for me. I cry tears of happiness and joy. For the simple fact that my loved ones are here and we are embarking on amazing in Life. The music has us enveloped in its Love and one can only be Thankful. When I tell you that this Music has saved my Life. It truly has. It has taught me discernment, respect, Love for yourself and a mind of your own. Nothing in this World can replace that. The fact that one can travel around the World and under the age of 30 speaks volumes! ALL BECAUSE of MUSIC!!!

-Josh Milan meeting my moms. My mom is a HUGE fan of his past and present stuff. Both are from the same neighborhood that I will be residing (BK! Do Or Die!). She asks for his number to make sure that I am alright. That made my Heart smile. Oh! Ron Trent meeting my moms too?! Talk about respect and elders! WOW!!! Ron was blown away, as was I! This HITP is one for the books!!!

THE AFTERPARTY: Why was that STRAIGHT BANANAS and PACKED OUT?! I guess people were not ready to go from the Park. My boy, Sean Alvarez is on decks and doing the goodness! He plays Franck Roger's 'Jeware' and I am getting it in. The place is becoming like sardines at this point and I find Ramon. James is working the door and then I ended up working the door for the rest of the night. I actually liked doing it. Ron Trent comes on and starts bringing banger AFTER banger AFTER banger. Putting on wristbands and busting a move is what it is all about. Talk about an EPIC weekend! Can we just rewind? I'm just saying though... Kimberly, Nina, Karin, Al, Ramon, Kai, Salah, Teya, Francesca, James, Kemit, Aishah and so many others: THANK YOU for being the individuals that you are! This Labor Day weekend meant so much to me in so many ways. You have shaped my Life and I am FOREVER thankful for that! Okay, back to pictures!

Djeff Afrozila's 'Soldier Ascension' album

Man has it been a whirlwind. Sorry for the lack of updates. NYC had me captivated and words cannot express the amount of music that I experienced while there. I cannot wait to be back soon. Speaking of music and the experience, I am here to give you the run down of Djeff Afrozila's album, 'Soldier Ascension'.

From meeting him a couple of years ago to now, his presence within the movement has been nothing but incredible. Still on a high from his set at Mi Casa Holiday. Talk about bananas! Nonetheless, I got a sneak peek from the man himself and let me just tell you, it is DOPE!!

Some highlights from the album:

Mwangole featuring Nacobeta,Agre G and Game Walla: When I first heard this track, I lost my every-loving mind! Where's my wall when I was getting it in and not giving a damn?! I twerked like it was no one's business. A dancer's delight who appreciates music from a worldy perspective. Angola be getting it in!! I think I found my brothers and sisters in the dance movement. Free and full of Life!

Soldier Ascension: Months before the album's release, the video came out. Not gonna lie, at first, I did not get it. However, after listening to an interview with Djeff and the concept of the video, he explains how there was no concept and that one is to just listen to the music. Such a groove to get into.

Celebration with Ade Alafia: When I first heard this, I thought of going out and just getting lost in the music and its message. Celebrate everything that is given to us and share that energy with all of those around us. Ade's vocals and message speaks volumes to me. Number three on the album and quite possibly one of my favourites. Any DJ who knows music, this should be in your arsenal. Big ups to Boddhi Satva for engineering this greatness!

Make Me Stronger with Leslie Kissumuma: When I first heard this melodic track, I sat back and listened to the lyrics and felt myself in her situation. Atlanta's own, Yoel Ben Yehuda provided flute, keyboard and bass on this track. Another banger for the right DJ to get a crowd moving.

Different featuring Kholi: If you are wondering who is bringing this track Life with her vocals, it is South Africa's own, Kholi. Providing her vocals to C.nine and Atjazz in 'Chasing', she changes up her sound and it resonates! As a woman, I can appreciate this. I digress. Simply put: Beautiful.

I am different/I am out of the norm/I am a different me...

African Mermaid: Spoken word and beautiful composition lays this tune down to a T. New York's own, Tantra Zawadi speaks of (in my opinion) the beauty that is of an African woman and the desire that many may have for her and the desires she gives to him. The poetry Tantra blends within this track is magical.

Love is her treasure...

Women: We are here!

DISCLAIMER: This is not to start anything, but to progress who we are as beings in this movement. I respect those who have shaped the sound for my ears and I will always show Love, regardless. That is what it is about at the end of the day :)

Today started off as usual: Bumping tunes and getting tasks done. A conversation sparked this post and I am glad it transpired. Makes one realize the true depth of our purpose as women, not only within the House Music Movement, but in Life as well.

Women in society are conditioned to do such things as: support their man physically, emotionally, spiritually, produce offspring in the World, teach a child to be a better human being and other things. In this movement, I truly feel (I am guilty of it as well) women are to be the cheerleader for male DJs. It becomes discouraging when you put into it and many fail to see that or do not want to recognize it. However, I give major props to all that do show Love and stay looking out for us women, including myself. To an extent, this one of the many reasons I hardly go out anymore.

I give my energy and Love through dance. It makes me whole and inspires me on so many levels. I started this blog with the intent of letting all know about the movement here in Atlanta and there is so much more than what meets the eye. Still scratching the surface and finding out about some amazing female DJs here in my own backyard.

You got DJ Fyre, Rachael Pryor, Lynnee Denise (Oh I am still claiming you...even though you wanna leave LOL), Tracy Levine, Zsa Zsa ( I know you Chi all day, boo. Much Love still LOL), E-Luv and so many others. This movement is about us ladies. I know that I am not out to attend at times due to my crazy schedule and Life, but trust and believe, I support you all.

If I am correct, who wants to be at a sausage fest or a cat carnival? Mix it up with some ladies on the decks! Oh and another thing: The divisiveness must cease. I get it, you only want to cater to where you're from, your sexual orientation, who you know in the movement and et cetera. It gets boring and you are perpetuating the negative aspect of this movement. Another avenue that needs mentioning is that I am in the South. To some, this may not matter, but to me, it plays a pivotal role in the movement here. Male-dominant, religious-driven, yet lacking feminine energy.

I started listening to this music as a child because of my mother. She is the one that nurtured me to the sounds that she grew up with while in NYC. One thing she taught me: acceptance. As I mature, this is becoming of a greater need. I see what she means now.

My ears are open to so many sounds of House that I could never EVER imagine. Truly thankful.

Through travels, I have met bomb ass women, such as: Sabine, Mryto Joyce, Zandy, Kristel Morin, Anane Vega, Helen Ting, DJ Tabu, Saturna, Mikki Afflick, Miss Kai, Funke, DJ shErOck and so many others. You women inspire me to dance freely, be who I am and always give through music. This is what it is about. I am so over the politics and social aspect of it. Who gives two shits anymore?

My blog usually focuses on the male aspect of the movement because that is what I was conditioned to listening to and seeing while going out. I did recognize a post with my homegirl, Myrto Joyce out of NYC. Henceforth, my commitment to women will be highlighted on this blog on a larger scale.

This also has to be expressed in the dance arena as well. Ladies, whatever happened to us dancing feminine and being proud of it? For me, I was always scared to show my femininity to dance due to the simple fact that some would perceive it in a negative way. Enjoying my face done up, smelling right, hair looking good and wearing feminine clothing always gives me a little bit of Pride. When I was introduced to Brian Green while out at House In The Park last year, he expressed this sentiment. He appreciated the fact that dancing was free, feminine, yet had balance. For him to see that, after being a pioneer in this movement, says a lot: We have work to do. ALL OF US!

The elephant is in the room and is making a lot of damn noise.

I cannot let this sit in me anymore. So, I say to my ladies and gentlemen, who is down?!

A letter to Osunlade

One never knows the impact music can reach to a soul. I remember hearing the Paradigm CD from when I was in my teens and going, 'What is this?! I need more'. Moms going to Satellite Records and buying Tortured Soul's 'I Might Do Something Wrong' (on vinyl) and hearing EVERY piece of instrument, vocals, breaks and everything in between. I always told myself, 'I would meet Osunlade one day...'

Years later, we share hugs, laughs and conversation. What a wonderful soul to know. When I first met him, I cannot lie, I was utterly humbled, yet intimidated. The energy that one carries is insurmountable. This meant more to me because I knew that this would influence me not only on a physical and mental level, but spiritual as well. I have become more available to my ancestors and even recalling songs that I have heard without even looking up the lyrics because of this human being. So it is suffice to say that I was more than ready for Saturday night.

Saturday night was absolutely beautiful! Never in my years of listening to music have I been on a journey as I was on Saturday night for Tambor Party. I have not seen Osunlade since Mi Casa Holiday and that in itself was beautiful. I felt the energy of my ancestors while in Playa del Carmen, danced with the sun and met some amazing souls! Cannot get any better than that.

I digress for a moment. I cloaked myself with the energies of my ancestors and all of those energies which I needed to contain myself on the dance floor. Whenever he comes into town, one knows to be prepared for something unique and special. He did just that. AJ and myself arrived a little after 11 and DJ BE was on the decks warming up the crowd. Stretching is necessary, as I did not want to go kaput by the end of the evening.

We make our way to the dance floor. We receive hugs and laughter.

Osunlade arrives and a big smile crept upon my face. The hug was one of love, being thankful and humility. The first thing we discussed is Mexico. I cannot wait for another year of beautiful energy. He is thankful to be here. Atlanta, believe it or not, is one of his favourite cities to play in. Peep that folk. That says something about the movement here. Let's keep it alive!

When he got on, he brought the rawness and tech that I miss dearly. One gets tired of hearing the same top ten tracks and the afro sound. I really need to move and let that shit hit me in the fucking chest. I never forget when he told me how he plays music and the more raw that it is, the more one can relate and move to it. I did just that. He busted out some Lana Del Ray, Frank Ocean, Prince, Funk, Songs for the ancestors, Afro, Soul and everything in between. I damn near lost my mind when I heard 'Olmec Save Us', 'Mirror Dance', 'Personal Jesus', Nadirah Shakoor singing 'Pride' LIVE, 'Fugama Unamathe', some drums for Chango and 'Change For Me'. That track gets me every time.

It hit me when I got home that Stan Zeff did not get on and play his set. I think he did at the beginning with BE, but I cannot remember for the Life of me. Not gonna lie, I would NOT want to play after that set. That was something serious! THANK YOU Stan Zeff, DJ BE and all of the Tambor family for an amazing night. I give my sincerest LOVE to Osunlade and see you in Mexico! Mi Casa Holiday awaits us!

The TRUTH about Carl Craig

Saturday night, I took time out to refresh my ears to hear some Carl Craig. To some, he plays Techno. But let's get this straight: THIS MAN PLAYS MUSIC!! He has been all over the World and for some odd reason, these Detroit folk always keep it gangster. Project B brought him to play and let me just say: A sista was impressed.

Downside: Not enough room to dance and some of the patrons were rude. I really got a bit tired of people bumping into me, knocking me in the head and standing on the dance floor.

Nonetheless, Kai Alce opened the night with some rawness and some Detroit flavour. I mean this with alll my Heart: Kai showed out and turned it. I enjoyed the diversity of sound within his set and for that, THANK YOU! He never plays the same redundancy on the decks and it is always refreshing, yet full of soul. Bobi Stevkovski brought a big of harder, yet Tech House feel to his set.

Then the man himself, Carl Craig steps on. When his set busted out with some newness from Moodymann, I knew it was gonna be a cool night. He mixed some of his goodness, Kevin Saunderson and other Detroit greats up in that piece. One thing I can say about the crowd Saturday night: Whatever Carl played, people listened, people danced and determined with their ears through movement. That track he played at the end, AJ and myself got it in on the wooden floor. Let me just say this: We as a community here in Atlanta MUST come together! Secondly, the dancers need to as well. And lastly, can we NOT play the same 10 tracks?! I LOVE diversity! Give me some Tech House, some Soul, some rawness. Something. This is one of the many reasons I do not go out anymore. We gotta stop spinning for the same group and DIVERSIFY! The youth need to be a part of it. Please believe that when it happens, we can mature.

Oh NYC!

I can never get enough of this place. Every time I that I visit, I always have the best of times and wonderful energy surrounding me. Big ups to my homies Perez and Amnel Massimo! they made this trip worthwhile and I am EXTREMELY HUMBLED to be in your presence! I can never get enough of cool ass folks! I keep telling folks: Mi Casa Holiday is an experience! I have met so many individuals from this trip and bonded more with a few, like the Massimos. Having wonderful empanadas down the street to going out and cutting a rug is what it is all about.

I touched down Wednesday and relaxed. Thursday rolls around and you know what that means: LIBATION!! Tortured Soul was also playing that night. No disrespect, but I HAD to get my dancing in. I see Brian from Afro Mosaic Soul as he shows Love when Amnel, Perez and myself walk in. Ian Friday was already bringing the HEAT! I find my spot and lo and behold, I see Sabine! When I tell you this lady gets it cracking not only on the decks, but on the dancefloor, you better believe it! We exchanged hugs and laughs, then it was back to the floor. I see my homie, Kristelle Morin and Melanie from London in the house! This is bond to be a great evening!

As I warm up even more, I run into more familiar faces. Camera lights flashing left and right as we get it in. I LOVE Ian's style due to the simple fact that he always tells a story for the dancer, yet brings the raw Caribbean flavor that I miss a lot. Not many DJs can do that for me. I am in my ZONE and I notice other beings getting it in as well. Maybe it is just me, but I feel that some of the dancers there do not go there to dance. Not to diss anyone in particular, but when you dance, there should be soul and spirit behind it. I take nothing from what they do, just my two cents.

The night rolls on and DJ Spinna pops up on the decks and sets the evening off just right. I danced a bit and knew I had to save my energy because Friday was an EPIC night!

The next day was a lax day. I got my rest on and chilled for a bit. The evening strolls in and it is time! There was this huge South African joint that Louie and Anane were at and I HAD to be there. Then I find out that Zandy, Black Coffee, Culoe, Fresh and other awesomeness was on the bill?! YOU KNOW I HAD TO BE UP IN THAT PIECE!

I get to the spot in Astoria,Queens called System. This spot reminds me of Opera here in Atlanta: Pretentious security, who were somewhat rude. The bartender was a darling, though. I appreciated him making me laugh. We get there and Zandy is on. You can tell that South Africans were in the building because of the dancing, the flag-waving and of course, the youth in attendance. This is one thing that I respect about their movement: They include the young. Now if only the states would follow suit. Of course the sound may be different, but you have a following that can decipher their own sound and branch that out to the masses. I mean, look at Culoe De Song, Black Motion, Shimza and others. They did the damn thing and BRING it!

I give my hugs to Omena, Anee, Sabine once more, Zandy, some Are You Afro folks, Tracy and so many others. I see Anane and the way she says 'Debbie!' is utterly adorable! What a sweet soul.

Next up: DJ Fresh. DJ Fresh has an eclectic blend. He can merge both the techy and the deep together. I first met him in Miami three years ago and since then, he always shows Love. The crowd is feeling it and the girls in the stilettos are working it! He does his thing and the crowd cheers in excitement. Louie and Anane Vega are on! I think it took everyone for a loop when they mixed the ZA sounds with some classics and then some bangers that many of us have not heard yet. Louie played this one track and I LOST IT!! I am waiting for it to come out on either Tribe or Vega Records. Deff played it on one of his soundcloud mixes and I NEED that joint in my Life. Continue?

I see him RIGHT before his set. He inquires as to why I am not in ATL and I told him I am here for THIS tonight. The man himself, Black Coffee gets on. He rips it and the crowd is dancing and going bananas! I was looking forward to seeing Culoe De Song, but he was in the building. But alas! Shimza gets on the decks and DESTROYS it. I am on a bar next to the stairs losing my damn mind lol

Why did the damn lights go up?! UGGH!!! A line out the door to get my jacket, though?! An amazing night of music to say the least. Saturday was a chill day and then Sunday rolls around...

SHELTER NYC!!!!!!!!!!!

So I was meeting up with my Godmother, Lucia so we could go together. She informs me that I got off RIGHT down the street from Shelter and to just go in. I hate when I think I got off at the right stop and did not. Anyways, I roll in and there is a sea of people getting down 5:00 in the afternoon!!! You would think since Winter Music Conference has started that people would be in the sun?! NOPE! Timmy was on the decks and I must admit, he was bringing it! I run into The Minister, Philippe, from Australia. This dude does not play when it comes to Timmy. He was already in Miami, flew to NYC JUST to hear Timmy and flying BACK to MIA on Monday. Talk about dedication!

The place is on fire and I am already sweating from the tunes. I see Rhodesia, Linda, Serge and so many others this day. As the day went on, it became more and more packed! That is when I knew it was about to be epic! I had to take a breather for a minute, so I went over into the next room. Mark Francis is on the decks and beating it silly! I get it in with Sabine and then I head back into the main room. I felt the damn heat and sweat out of that spot! Talk about bananas! At this point, Timmy busts out with 'Rescue Me (MAW Mix)' and I make eye contact with Carlito! That joint always gets me jumpin' and screaming.

To say that this trip was EPIC is an understatement. I thank all who made it worthwhile, especially seeing my Godmother and sister, Stella. Love You and see you soon! <3 br="">

H.D.A. is back!

Okay...

I know I have been absent for a minute. Between travel and work, things get shelved for a minute. The blog was one of them.

My sincerest apologies. I have to write about NYC and the awesomeness I encountered while there. Nonetheless, can I say one thing?!

HOUSE DANCERS OF ATLANTA is back!! It has been almost a year. Mixed schedules and crazy Life comes in. But when we meet, it is MAGIC! It inspires me whenever we hang because music bonds us, but dance creates an even tighter family. Many thanks to Isile (organizer), Degratia (co-organizer), Sarka, Wahlid (sp?) and other guests who made this experience that much more amazing. We never left! More meetups coming soon. The Gathering 7 Year Anniversary with MasterKev

Having the pleasure of getting to know one of the most down to Earth people is truly amazing. I met Ramon during one night out at MJQ Deep Saturdays. He approached me about an event he was doing called 'House In The Park'. Ever since then, we have been friends. I can truly say that he is one of few that I respect in this game. Hailing from Chicago, he brought something unique to the table that not many DJs here in Atlanta have. To see his sound evolve is truly inspirational.

I remember when he had Imported Underground with Ryze and the tracks he would bang out. You wanna talk about some rawness?! It is only just that RamonRawsoul lives up to his name sake. I will never forget the night that Jovonn played and I heard 'T.F.J. (Theme From Jovonn). The damn generator kept blowing out. Someone kept restarting it, then we all continued dancing. There was NO HEAT or lights in this space that we all danced in. It went on until the sun came up and we all said our goodbyes and waited for the next one.

Rich Medina with his locks came and played at his party. Utter and pure magic to see the heads unite all in the name of music. David Harness came and turned it out for us all. We were in Heaven. For the Four Year Anniversary, Ian Friday came down and that was the first time I heard 'More Of You'. Me and Nishana were RIGHT next to each other and just went crazy! Ian looked up and smiled. Talk about a magical night.

This past Saturday was NO exception...

Walked up into Space 2 seeing faces that I have not seen in many years roll through give Ramon and Kai their respects and Love (I COULD HAVE SWORN I SAW RYZE up in the piece!). Looked up on the wall and there were pictures of individuals who shaped this monthly event into what it has become today. I share hugs with so many wonderful souls and Kai is banging out the goodness! Classics and newness he intertwines so gracefully on the decks. I have so much Love and respect for this man it is not even funny. At this point, the crowd is building and I am sweating. I should have not worn that damn top with the turtleneck, though (sigh).

Midnight rolls around and at this point, there is NO room to dance. I get a bit hyped when tracks come on and people STAND RIGHT BY THE SPEAKER! I had to tell a brother to let me occupy that space by the rest of the night. Kev finally rolls in and I share hugs and conversation. Quite possibly one of the coolest people I have ever met (So great seeing you, man! Until soon, my friend). At this point, he was rested and ready to give Atlanta a piece of him and for us to share ourselves with him through dance. He starts off his set with a track produced by Osunlade called 'Piano in The Dark'. That banger is just oh so beautiful!

Thomas and Sarah present Ramon with a cake celebrating 7 years of wonderful music and parties. To see the look on his face was priceless! Kev is going in at this point and I lose it on the dancefloor. I open my eyes back up and crowd is going nuts. Hearing people whistle, yell and scream is a sign of a good night. The highlights for me was seeing Melba getting it in AND seeing my darling, Meghan rocking it out on the dance floor, Soukeyna doing floor moves and Cortney doing some moves I have NEVER seen her do. These ladies are amazing! My new friend from Paris brought her friend along and the night was complete.

The lights come on and Ramon starts banging out 'T.F.J'. I was done. Rodney pulls me close to him and before you know it, I am rolling on the floor and getting into trouble with him. If you ever want an amazing dance partner, Rodney is the one! Ramon ends the night with 'Life Starts Today'. Although it is a popular track and played a lot by DJs, it never gets old to me. Something about it makes my soul full and my mind happy. Thank You gentlemen and all those involved for an incredible night. Lucky number 7 lived on this night...

Tambor Party with Jose Marquez and Adult Skate: MLK Edition

As the evening rolled in, so did I. After a long day's work, I needed to relieve on the dance floor. I always look forward to Tambor Party to do just that.

DJ BE started off the night warming up the dance floor for the dancers and then it was time...

My homie, Jose Marquez was in town and it was a nice treat for us ATL folk. If you do not know, this man is dope in his own right. I feel as if many of us here in the South get too spoiled with a particular sound. It is time to break that mold and he did just that. He brought in some drums, some percussion and of course, a bit of the West Coast flavor. I enjoyed it and this dancer got her Life in. About half way through the set, Stan Zeff came in and the crowd soared with energy even more.

I appreciate the tag team on the decks because at the end, Jose saved the best for last. Thank You for coming here and blessing us with your sound. I will see you at Mi Casa Holiday, my brother!!

The following night was Adult Skate. Anybody who knows about Adult Skate know how crazy the energy is. Well this one in particular was special for many reasons: We celebrated the man who was all for Peace and Unity among us all: Martin Luther King. Secondly, it was the Inauguration of Barack Obama for his second term. Talk about positive energy and spirits of many being uplifted. Adult Skate is the quintessence of such. Whenever it falls on this weekend for some beautiful reason, the energy is HIGH. This night was no exception. Walked in and expected people to warm up by just chatting...

That was not the case. Kemit already had the joint on fire with rawness. I slipped off my coat and started up on the wooden floor. Whenever I am on the wooden floors, I feel free and full of movement. Had my little corner and started going in. By this time, it was going into the midnight hour and more folks started rolling in. At this point, people are grooving and dancing. I say my hellos to Kemit, Cullen, Kai, Karin and countless others before returning to the dance floor. At this point, Cullen gets on with his funky self. I look to the crowd and I see people just standing and looking at people dancing.

DISCLAIMER: Why the HELL are you standing around looking at a group of people dancing? Nothing wrong with people feeling one another through dance, but when you dance one on one the whole night, it gets repetitive and boring. I have nothing against ciphers and whatnot. I enjoy sharing my energy with those who may not be used to it, but I cannot do it the whole night. YOU KILL THE ENERGY OF THE ROOM AND THE NIGHT! Besides, I am a dancer, not an entertainer or spectator. If you do that, don't come out and dance. Space is already limited as it is.

Okay, back to the music...

Cullen really heats it up with the Cassioware track. At this point, I am trying my best to break up the cipher because I want that REAL energy back. The lights go dark (THANK GOODNESS! Thank You, Kai) and Kai is on. When I tell you Kai brought that shit...OH MY GOODNESS!! I lost my ever-loving mind. I was at one point making love to the dance floor and getting it in with another being. That shit was pure raw, unadulterated fun! That is what I miss about the Atlanta scene: The rawness. Kai and very few others keep it that way. So I say to those who missed it: Gotta wait a couple more months.

P.S. - The chick who left her shoes found them. I am waiting for Kemit to drop an album with those shoes as his cover!

Tambor 3-City Party: ATL

Little fact check for you all: I did not know that Tyrone Francis was from England! Brother sounds straight UP from the BK to me.

Nonetheless, I Thank him for being the amazing being that he is. DJ BE started off the evening just right to get the crowd going with some goodies that many of us heads know. Stan Zeff came on and turned the notch up JUST a wee bit more. I got to see my homie, Zepherin Saint who was playing as well the same night. Something told me that this night was going to be ANYTHING but ordinary for me. As soon as Tyrone came on, I could feel the New York flavor. For those ATL folks who have never been to a New York party, the energy is totally different. There is an organic approach to the sound and the dancers express that when they are on the floor. People FEEL the music and hoot, holler, jump up and down. THIS IS HOUSE, FOLKS! Forget that foolishness that people tell you with a step and a movement. If you FEEL it, it is HOUSE dancing! Hell, it is DANCING period!

Zepherin Saint came onto the decks and brought a techy feel. Some down here may not appreciate those sounds. However, as a dancer, I like that aspect because it gives more variety and range when I move. He played this unreleased track that is coming out on his label and I damn near lost it on the floor. Expand your range of sound and you will be pleased with your musical palette. You men keep a sista dancing!!

So back to what I was writing: Tyrone came on and brought some straight foolishness I have not heard in years. It is the sound of House that I was introduced to as a teenager while at my mom's playing Vinyl and rocking out on headphones. What really did it for me was hearing 'My Favorite Things' by Lamone from the Honeycomb Christmas album. It took me back to the good times when I first got into the scene and the LOVE that was so intense that you could scream of joy. I started dancing with Rodney and I looked up. The next thing I know, I am crying! Now anyone knows when I dance, I feel it. At THAT moment, I broke into tears of happiness. Never have I had such a release when I did. I very rarely do that. Vocals are IMPERATIVE in any tracks, folks! It tells the story on an even larger scale and keeps the audience captivated. I was spinning around in Rodney's arms and felt so light. The energy at that moment was at its zenith. I can truly say that he did the damn thing and garnered my respect even more.

So sad I could not make his BKNY party this past weekend. I left one day too soon. A full 12 hours of just music to keep everyone in good spirits, regardless of what your circumstances may be. I am coming for that party ASAP!! ATLANTA: NEXT MONTH IS GONNA BE FIRE!! My brother, Jose Marquez is coming! Be ready!!! Love

Another Year and Top 10 Tracks

I just want to thank EVERYONE who has read, commented, shared and embraced this blog. Without you all, we would not have the opportunity to EXPRESS what we do. Damn it has been three years and I am still kicking.

2013 is another year for greatness, positive vibes and amazing music. I do not consider it a new beginning; rather a year to transform House Music to the masses through writing to many who are willing to understand our World a little more. I have not given up on this music since it has not on me. I can still remember the time I fell in Love with House Music and the grip it has had on me since. It saved my Life!

Speaking of saving lives, I got ten tracks that were bangers this year that gave so much LIFE on the floor. Here are a few that did it for me (In NO particular Order):

Lamone - My Favorite Things: Now anyone who knows me knows I am not big on the holidays. However, I downloaded Josh Milan's Holiday albums with wonderful artists such as Dawn Tallman, Lamone, Cinnamon Brown, Sandra St. Victor and others to make it oh so soulful. The Honeycomb Music camp made me appreciate vocals, soul, harmonies and music even more. Tyrone Francis banged this at December's Tambor Party and the Spirit took over me. I was in tears of joy. Timmy Regisford feat. Mikey Dance - Shining (Sean McCabe Remix): When I first heard this track, I was like, 'Alright, let's see how this will sound' Gotta admit, at times I have a biased ear. I LOVE when vocals and production come together properly. Sean McCabe did justice with the remix of Timmy Regisford's track. I am a big fan of Mr. McCabe and I can truly say that this track needs to be played. I kept playing it over and over at home. Dancing to it is such a release.

SMT feat. Shea Soul - Just Fine: This track is just SMOOTH!! I heard it a while back when I was at The Gathering and I was hooked. I kept listening and KNEW that I had heard the voice before. Shea Soul never disappoints when it comes to tracks that she is on. The David Harness mix is HOT TOO! To be honest, I like all the mixes on this track. Now go and beat that to the ground.

Jazzmatik and Boddhi Satva feat. MiSSuM - And Other Worlds (Kai Alce Vocal Remix): If this banger does not make you move, I dunno what will. Kai Alce put his damn foot in this one and I cannot stop moving to it. It reminds of how House Music should be: Melodic, Vocal, Soulful and damn RAW! You better get it, homie! ATL REPRESENT!

Tuccillo and Kiko Navarro feat. Amor - Lovery (Yoruba Soul Mix): Maaaaaan Osunlade better stop playing. When I first heard this track, I thought out to loud and said, 'Goodness gracious! Atjazz and Jullian Gomes - Overshadowed (Atjazz Galaxy Aart Dub): OH MY GOODNESS! I really do not think you all here in the STATES understand how damn genius Atjazz is. Sleep on this dude if you must my fellow Americans, but he is the TRUTH! We gotta get him stateside. SOMEONE. ANYONE?! Carlos Mena played this banger at one of his BEMBE parties here in Atlanta and I fucking LOST it! Words cannot describe the feelings I had at that moment when this track came on: Nostalgia, Love, Pure and RAW emotion, the ability to move freely and dance like no one is watching. EnaWadan - I'm Still Standing: Brother ain't that the truth! Carlos Mena brought this cat to the masses with 'Forever' on his Ocha Records label. Thankful and blessed that he came back FULL force with this banger. This track makes a sista feel good when she is dancing and yet again, NOT every DJ can play this track. With the release on Offering Recordings, it set a whole new standard to vocals and ancestral energy. When I hear this track, it sends off positive vibes and great energy to the dancers. A banger, indeed!

Ralf Gum feat. Monique Bingham - Take Me To My Love: When I tell you that this track can NEVER get old, believe it. Regardless of what sound of House you may play, this track is a club banger. Ralf Gum and Monique Bingham have done it again. With Ralf's stellar production and Monique's smooth vocals, you cannot go wrong. I LOVE THIS TRACK!

*****FLako feat Dirg Gerner -Lonely Town (K2 REMIX): Alright Kris Klayton AKA Karizma AKA Kaytronik, I am calling you out on this one! How you gon' produce this foolishness and NOT put it out?!?!?! I heard this track and seriously started screaming at the top of my lungs. When I tell you that this is EVERYTHING that I needed for 2012 when it came to Music HANDS DOWN, this is the ONE! I put stars next to this because I WANT THIS RELEASED! Hell, I am pretty sure most of your fans want this out. YET AGAIN: ONLY CERTAIN DJs can play this. I get excited when I hear these two words: Josh Milan!

I did a write up about him last year and it never ceases to amaze me how well the interview went. He is such a humble being and it is only just that many share his Heart through his music. The phone call I received from him totally made me happy! I was asked by him to help promote the event and to get the word out about it in Atlanta. You see, many know him through vocals and production, but some of us have seen him in action on the decks and I was excited to hear that he would be playing for us all.

I was SO thankful to see him in the building. At first, it trickled in with folks because in the South, the cold was straight foolishness and we ain't used to that. Salah warmed up the crowd to warm our bodies up for the floor. As soon as Josh got on and started up the crowd, it was on. He started with 'From Now On', brought it back with 'Another Part of Me' by Avery Sunshine and some Vikter Duplaix's 'The Real World', I knew the night was gonna be fire.

I give him thanks for letting me help promote for his event. To be honest, I knew it was gonna be a great night and the souls that were supposed to be there were in the building. Thank You ALL for a wonderful evening. Here are pictures:

CURRENT TRACK: Floating Points - Love Me Like This PURCHASE HERE...

What better way to celebrate my homie, RamonRawsoul's birthday, than to have Chicago's own, Anthony Nicholson come down and bless the A with goodness? Big ups to Karin, Kai, Ramon and all who do this amazing event every month. Without you all, I would have no where to go. For real. Love You all!

Now mind you, the last time the Chicago cats came down, Jamie 3:26 shut the place down and destroyed the dance floor RIGHT after House In The Park. Big ups Jamie! Oh, I cannot forget Julius The Mad Thnker coming down and putting a whoopin' on all of us. Stayed on the dance floor the entire night. Many were appreciative of the range that both cats provided. I love my fam! Mad LOVE!

When I think of Anthony, I think of the raw and deep sounds hailing from the Southside of Chicago. I envision 45s blaring out soulful tunes that keep the sound of the movement together. When Glenn Underground came down, it reminded me of how similar their styles are. Raw, organic, eccentric, full of soul and Yes, may I say it, BLACK!

Sometimes (NOT all of the TIME), I get an heir of superiority from certain DJs. They look down on our city as if we do not know the sound and its origins. As soon as the music starts flowing and people are feeling it, their energies shift and at the end of the night, it is all LOVE.

A sista is not gonna lie: I was a bit nervous meeting him due to the simple fact that I have been a fan of his work for years now. A real humble man who brought in the goodness from beginning to end. At the end of the day: Thank You so much for sharing with us.

Ramon warmed up the crowd with a mixture of goodies to satisfy any palette. The room filled up nicely and before midnight, we were getting it in. There are still tracks I have not heard of that these gentlemen played. Kai brought the heat with that damn goodness from Karizma. When is 'Lonely Town' coming out?! He put his foot in that. Oh, did I mention, it was DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME?! A sista was delirious in the music and on a high. Seriously. I have not had that feeling in a long time. I think us gaining one hour to beat it out on the dance floor did it. My body is STILL feeling it!

ONCE AGAIN: Thank YOU, gentlemen! I approve of this goodness!

MI CASA HOLIDAY: Season 4

So Julius is an amazing being to know. I just have to get that out.

For three years, him, Adam Gibbons, Sabine, Kevin and so many others have told me about this event.

'D, you are gonna Love it! You HAVE to come...'
'For a dancer, this is Heaven. Are you coming next year?'

I kept putting it off for THREE YEARS. What is wrong with me?! I am ALL about the Beach, Meeting wonderful souls and of course, Dancing. So I packed my carry-on and headed to Playa Del Carmen, Mexico for Mi Casa es Su Casa Holiday 2012.

OH MY GOODNESS!!! The experience has forever changed my mind, body and soul. The individuals I met there are beautiful. Coincidentally, I bonded on an even greater scale with some wonderful souls I already knew.

Seeing Osunlade and Djeff, on top of getting big hugs from many made this trip beautiful. Osunlade with his suspenders, badass shoes and pipe. His set at the Blue Parrot set a sister on fire. The ancestors were lock and loaded with his set. I turned back to see him playing without headphones. That's a bad motherfucker! Hands down one of the dopest sets I have heard this man play. Ahh I love him!

My first night was the meet and greet. I ran into so many people I already knew: Jenn and Brad, Asya Shein of Fusicology, MasterKev, Justin (Aquabeat), RamonRawsoul, Julius The Mad Thinker, Adam Gibbons and so many others. I took a quick shower after a long day on the beach and went down to La Santanera for Uhuru Afrika/Wepa! event. Oh my goodness talk about spiritual! Sidy Maiga was on the drums. If you do not know who this brother is, Google him. He has worked with my fellow brother, Boddhi Satva on a few projects. I was in a trance by the drums and danced the ENTIRE night. I ran into my homie, Sabine, and it all went to another place RIGHT then and there. Met Lucid of Soulshifters and Odie (San Francisco) and we got it in as well. Big ups West Coast! Still SALTY that I missed Jose Marquez on the decks! I got you next time, homie! I know he ripped it. Big ups Max Pela and Adam Gibbons for keeping a sista on the floor and sweating her hair out the first night. That is dancing!

Friday was a crazy day as well. Went to hear the ladies on the deck for It's Her Turn! Helen Ting of Hong Kong: I'm gon' need for you all to peep this lady! I was sleeping on her and I apologize! She ripped the decks. DJ Tabu did her thang as well. I think the performance that shut down that day was Lady Alma. I LOVE me some of her! Her mic went out at one point and she started SAAAAAAAAAANGING like no one's business! That sister is the truth! I LOVE her voice and God has surely blessed her with it. After her performance, I ran into her and gave her huge hugs. Guess who was RIGHT there? Lisa Shaw! Talk about awesome! Such a sweet soul.

That night was the United Nations event at The Blue Parrot. I walked into about 11:45-ish because I COULD NOT miss my boo Sabine on decks! That sista is the TRUTH! I am so proud of you, woman! You always hold your own, but this night, you took it to another level. Love You bunches! Hallex M of Hong Kong (Paris) did the damn thing. When he played Kerri Chandler's remix of 'Rain', a sista was DONE! I do not think the locals who were not used to dancing of such magnitude knew what to do. Me, Soukeyna and Sabine all zoned out, cleared the area and just went RIGHT into it.

Osunlade got on the decks and shut it down until 5:30 in the morning! Needless to say, it was magical. Starting off with 'Cantos a Oya et Ochun', going into his remix of 'I Want You' by Floetry to hearing vocals bringing the return of the Black Messiah to Moodymann's 'Shades of Jae', a sista was on another planet. He always does that to me. I got to meet MAWU's own, Linda, on the dance floor. Talk about humbling. It is funny when you think no one knows who you are and come to find out, they do. Truly an experience. I shall forever treasure that night.

Saturday it was off to Om Tulum for Turntables on the Caribbean. Nickodemus, Eddie Plenty, Dj Numark and Sabo brought the tunes in. I met even more amazing souls that day. We dance to Old School Hip-Hop, House, Salsa, Soul and so much more. The water was PERFECT. But yeah, fifteen minutes away from us was a jungle with wild animals and shit. Talk about interesting. Not about that Life at all. We had fresh food and wonderful drinks to keep us all going in the spirit.

WARNING: Saturday night was STUPID! I needed dirt, a casket and someone to carry my ass out! Atlanta's own, RamonRawsoul started the night off right. I do not think I truly expected this night to be this mind-blowing!! I knew Ramon was gonna shut it down. Djeff SHUT IT DOWN FOR ALL OF MI CASA HOLIDAY! To be honest, he played better than when I saw him in Miami for Winter Music Conference and Atlanta! This dude had people calling all types of names. I felt my ancestors on the dance floor and went bananas! He played some newness from Boddhi (Do NOT think I did not ask! lol) and that was all she wrote. I was doing handstands, screaming out things I never knew I would say. When he busted out with EnaWadan's 'I'm Still Standing', I knew it was about to be a wrap. LAWD!!!! Where was my dirt? DJs were by the booth and were just mesmerized like they had seen a ghost. I was screaming up to the Heavens as to why he was bringing such goodness! I look over and see Joann Jimenez and she replies, 'I think I am pregnant!' Homie, you are the truth!

After his set, Julius got on. I'm not gonna even lie, if I were the DJ after him, I would have kept my shit in the bag and went back to my hotel room. That energy was DIVINE! After his set, he tells me, 'I hope they bring me back next year...' ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! He will PROBABLY be a staple for Mi Casa Holiday! AND he wanted to get back on. Someone would have had to mop me off the floor. That foolishness would have not been pretty at all. My homeboy Kevin is upstairs playing and he smacked the Hell out of me with the goodness he played. Sidy had his drum and there was a little drum circle going on. his energy geared more towards me and Sabine. Her and I felt the Orishas around us and that was all that she wrote. I needed to cool down. However, when I looked up and opened my eyes, the damn sun was OUT! I danced ALL night until 7:30 in the morning!

Sunday was more of a lax day. It was the last day. Oh so sad to see everyone packing. Some already left on their respective flights. We chilled for the Ambassadors' closing party. Salah represented ATL VERY NICELY with his set. This man is doing amazing things for our scene and it is great for the rest of the World to see it first hand. Osunlade got on next and played all old school tracks! I loved it! So refreshing and the blend was PERFECT!!! Mikeytown got on! This dude is hilarious! If you put him and Djeff side by side, I PROMISE you that they are RELATED! His set was awesome! Kept all of us going. We all sung in unison and vibed out. David Sabat got on and brought his Chi-town flavor. I see you, homie!!! I miss Keith's set. Sadface. I heard it was smooth as well :) That night was the Soiree/Farewell event. We all hugged, took pictures, kisses on the cheeks and of course, more dancing. I got my feet some loving, courtesy of a foot massage. Ahhh yes!! I needed it after all of the days of dancing!

Vibing out with wonderful souls. I shall treasure the moments we shared. I got off the shuttle and into the airport and cried. I LOVE YOU MY MI CASA FAMILY!! UNTIL WE MEET AGAIN... <3 nbsp="nbsp" p="p">

Alright, alright... I cheated a little bit ATL fam.

So my birthday weekend, I jetted out and went back to my second home, New York City. Every single time I come back, I am always showered and adorned with so much hospitality that it is crazy. My charm, perhaps?

Nonetheless, I let it all out on the dance floor at Are You Afro? to hear Wasabi, Des Uno and Lou Gorbea. Got my dancing in there, then scooted over to the Sullivan Room to hear Ian Friday, Perez Massimo and Zandy SheJay. I walked into RIGHT when Perez was playing 'Mukubwa' by G'Sparks and I LOST IT! You all put this sista in a coma.

Big ups to Gale (Are You Afro?) and Manchildblack (Libation) who always shows this sista Love. I want to relive that night because I ran into good peoples. I got it in. Ya heard me?! What it do Gio and Mark? Been a minute since I have seen you Mark (I'd say Shelter Party 2007, WMC to be exact). Ahh amazing times. Okay, no more chit chat, here are the photos:

Celebrate Mujasi

This beautiful soul has touched so many lives within the Atlanta Scene for so long, it is only just that we give back. I have known Theresa for many years. With an infectious smile, a wonderful spirit that oozes of Love, Strength and Confidence, we all came together in a time of healing. Her son, Mujasi has been diagnosed with a rare condition called LCH-Unifocal (Langerhans cell histiocytosis, unifocal)Read more about it here: LCH-Unifocal.

The House community came together in the name of music, Love, Unity and Dance for her son. Stan Zeff, Salah Ananse, RamonRawsoul, Lynnee Denise, Yusef and DJ 1derful provided the wonderful moves and grooves for us all to vibe with. Kemi Bennings jumped on the mic for a bit to show Love and solidarity for Mujasi. Thank You so much everyone!

I was moved to tears and my soul was happy to see all share hugs, great memories for this beautiful soul to heal on an even greater scale. to show how amazing the Universe works, we all stood outside after the event took place and the moon had its halo around it. She is listening to us and it all-knowing.

1st Annual Atlanta Weekender + Karizma/Ian Friday + House In The Park

Can I just say this: IF YOU MISSED THIS PAST WEEKENDER, YOU ARE STRAIGHT LOSING IT!

Never had this much fun and dancing the entire weekend. I got to see peoples from all over (big ups my NYC family! I LOVE you all), dance my heart out and let out tears of joy. Once again, THANK YOU Salah Ananse for conceptualizing this idea and making it a reality. Atlanta is TRULY impressed, as am I. Oh, the consensus from people that heard you spin is that you are phenomenal! Keep it going, brother! I am here if you need ANYTHING!

Alright, back to the goodness: I got my interview with Baltimore's own, Kris Klayton, better known as Karizma. When I tell you this cat ripped his damn set - OOOOOOH WEE!! Hearing 'Chasing' and 'Rain' through the speakers gave me an out of body experience. Last time I saw him was in the UK at Southport Weekender and he did not disappoint. I missed Saturday night and I am a sad panda because of it. Nonetheless, Sunday made up for it all.

I volunteer every year for House In The Park and every year I go, I always get something out of it.

Lesson Number One: Folks never learn. Why you out at the park 4:30 in the MORNING setting up your grill and food?! It was that serious, folks!

Lesson Number Two: Hugs and Love are essential in Life.
I had an emotional moment not only because of a hug, but the song that was played. Kai Alce was banging ':Let Me Show You' by Kenny Bobien and a good friend I have not seen in a while came up and hugged Rodney Williams and myself. We let out a sigh and then tears rolled. The power of Love and support is something that I never take for granted. This individual gave me open arms when I came onto the scene at the age of 16 and it is only just that I continue to spread that as well to those who are not used to this sound called House.

Lesson Number Three: DO NOT set a park on fire.
I'm going to need for folks to get their grills in check. Why was the event ALMOST shut down because of someone and their grill?! Then people in the pavilion dancing scream out loud, 'The roof, the roof, the roof is on fire! We don't need no water let the motherfucker burn!' Really everyone?

THANK YOU Kai Alce, Ramon Rawsoul,Kwest_on, Ian Friday, Roland Clark, DJ Kemit, Salah Ananse and SO MANY OTHERS for making Labor Day the business! So yeah, the stats of House In The Park: Fire Marshalls say 6,000 to 7,000. Let me be honest and tell you AT LEAST 10,000 EASY.

The Atlanta Weekender : The Beginning

Let me rewind this for a second...

One night while out getting my dance on, I greeted Salah Ananse and Nina with a huge hug and similar sentiments were expressed. Us, along with several others, are music festival lovers and have had the amazing opportunity to travel across the pond to England. We all met up in 2008 for Southport Weekender and had a blast! Salah cultivated the idea and placed it into motion. The concept in a nutshell: A series of events held in a distinct location that played ANYTHING that was of SOUL in different rooms at the same time (Afrobeat, House, Soul, Funk, etc;), hence the idea of this event. The Atlanta Weekender will be taking place at SoundTable and Space 2 (Thursday - Sunday night) and Grant Park (Sunday during the day).

I am thankful to see the idea come to the table with such amazing acts, such as: Ian Friday, Karizma, Roland Clark, Miranda Nicole and Stephanie Cooke. Oh yeah, I cannot forget some of my FAVOURITE DJs on the bill : RamonRawsoul, Salah Ananse, Kai Alce and DJ Kemit. In my honest opinion, these men encompass the TRUE sound of HOUSE MUSIC in Atlanta for me. Sure, there are others that I can mention, but in all honesty (Ron Pullman and Cullen Cole are hands down favourites of mine too!) these men do it for me. Having flashbacks as to when these men truly touched me on the dancefloor is nothing but beautiful.

Thursday Night: The Love Sexy Party - The title says it all! Salah Ananse and Chicago's own, Kwest_On on the decks spinnin' the likeness of: Prince, Apollonia, Vanity 6, Morris Day and The Time. What a way to kick off Labor Day Weekend

Friday Night: Afrique Electrique and Distinctive: I am gonna need water and straight Aleve for this. Ian Friday will be holding it down on the decks. Whenever he plays, I seem to lose it and go bananas! The music he plays is a dancers' dream. Along with acts mentioned earlier in the post, this should be a memorable night.
Jump over to the other room and you have Baltimore's own, Kris Klayton AKA Karizma AKA Kaytronik. Having goosebumps from memories at Southport Weekender, 4:30 in the morning with 5,000 heads jamming to dopeness. All I know is, it is gonna be hot!!

Saturday Night: DJ Kemit will be in one room spinning some beautiful tunes to get the crowd going. It is suffice to say that the true heads will be in the building! Congrats on your latest album, 'Everlasting'. It is everything a music head needs and then some. Oh, did I mention in the other room we have Chicago's own, Sadar Bahar playing some wonderful Soul and Disco gems for the vinyl heads to get down with? Come with an open ear because this evening is about to be spectacular.

Sunday: Yep. I will have my damn whistle with me for House In The Park. I ain't playing with you all when it comes to my music. To my friends: Be cute and get there late if you want. Your behind will be without a parking spot and nowhere to chill. Several people learned last year. We had rain all day, but that did not stop folks from dancing. Imagine 5,000 people dancing in the name of music. IT IS ABOUT TO BE BANANAS.

Oh and sidenote: Jamie 3:26 is gonna put a hurting on us all come that night after the park. Get ready, folks!

Get your pass, folks! It is about to be a CRAZY weekend.

Oh yeah! One more thing: On Saturday night, Secrets is having a party at the Metropolitan Lofts with my fav ladies on the bill: Lynnee Denise, Sabine Blazin and DJ Fyre.

Let me just say this: If you missed this man on the decks last night, I really do not know what to tell you.

REWIND TO WMC 2012 - Tribe Records Party at The Vagabond: So my brother, Carlos Mena is like, 'Yo, this kid is the truth! You might wanna stay for his set for a second...'. Ausar also informs me that this dude is the TRUTH and is to not be slept on. I go to greet him and he says hello and then HANDS ME A SHIRT and CD! He thanks me for dancing and I thank him for keeping the tunes going. Jose Marquez is finishing up his set and did the damn thing as well. Big ups Jose! We gotta get him to the A soon! His sound is amazing and so raw. Okay, I digress.

He steps on the decks and the SPEAKERS are RIGHT there in front of me. I am in a complete trance when he is on. I could care less if no one was dancing around me. I felt my ancestors the entire night while I was there. However, it was a warmth that covered his sound, along with the Angolan beats that kept me on the floor until Carlos tells me it is time to bounce. Such a humble and warm being. His set was INCREDIBLE!!!

DJ BE warms the crowd up with some dope bangers to get people AWAY from the walls and onto the floor in order to get Djeff nice and right for all to feel whom he is as a being on the decks. Stan Zeff closes out the night with some goodies I have not heard. A sista needs to know where she can her download from of the tracks you played. I WILL pay and dance even more.

Suffice to say when he played last night at 595 North, he did not disappoint. I am still on a high. I am a big fan of Kuduro and still learning more about it. The scene in itself is taking Angola by storm. Stadiums are filled with the sound. Reminds me a little bit of Soca with a little bit more of deepness intertwined. If you do not know about Kuduro, do your RESEARCH, folks!!! I am thankful that we as a city have the wonderful opportunity to experience sounds that other major cities do not have the opportunity to experience. It says a lot about our scene and the music overall. Atlanta is bringing the heat, folks!

DISTINCTIVE Presents DEEPER SHADES 10 Year Anniversary at The SoundTable

HANDS DOWN: Lars Behrenroth never disappoints when he is on the decks. I remember at the South African Party when he was on and I could not stop dancing. As the ay rolled on, Liquideep just finished performing and we peek into the back of the stage. This fool is dancing and getting it in! Talk about a cool ass individual and being.

Nonetheless, he brought his A game to the Sound Table for the 10 year Anniversary of his Website/Label, Deeper Shades Recordings. Kai Alce opened up with gems that many DJ's would never rock. It takes me back to the time I was at Satellite Records and I bought on vinyl CeCe Penniston's 'He Loves me 2' and I could not stop jamming. Kai blazed that track through some speakers and I knew it was about to be an amazing night. Lars got on the decks and before you knew it, the crowd was moving and sweating the ENTIRE night. I completely lost it when Omar's 'Lay It Down', remmixed by Andre Lodermann was on. Screaming left and right, hollering 'til I could not holler anymore. Oooh! On top of that, the shirt is fab! Orange is my colour.

Thank You ALL so much for the love and continued support!

I started the blog with the purpose of getting the word out about the House Music scene from a younger perspective. I feel as if many (especially in my age range) do not understand the genre itself and confuse it with other foolishness. I am still learning myself and it shall continue to be a process that is ongoing. I remember the first entry I wrote: Very simple and to the point about Atlanta. From there, pictures, interviews, video and so much more surfaced and I can truly say it has been a whirlwind of awesomeness!

I appreciate these warm individuals taking time out of their schedules to let me interview them so that all can get a deeper insight as to whom they are. Nonetheless, the interviews will continue. The videos and pictures, too!

As for HDA: We have been on a bit of HIATUS, but catch us back soon! If you do not know who we are, look us up on Meetup.com or facebook.com under 'House Dancers of Atlanta'. As Atlanta spreads its wings to bigger and better things, this is for US ALL!

To the naysayers: STOP coming into my city with that foolishness THINKING that we are some country ass bumpkins who do not know squat about House Music. We have so many imports that it makes no sense for the division. People hear about us far and wide and want to come here. Regardless of what sound of 'House' you prefer, we are ALL in this together. Family stays together and sticks up for one another when others have bullshit to spew. Just sit back, have a seat and eat a damn cookie... IT IS OUR TURN!!!!

The BEMBE Experience

As a DANCER and a music LOVER, there are so many events that I attend which make me move (given the DJ and the ambiance they provide). I can truly say this for a fact: BEMBE is one of the FEW parties that actually has me locked in on the dance floor. Now some may not understand nor care to understand the reason behind this event. My good friend, Carlos Mena, started this event while in Oakland to share the sound of music, not only through dance, but through the ancestors. I have been wanting to attend one of these events because I heard such great things about it from Oakland and Miami.

However, as soon as he touched down in Atlanta, it was ON! ThatGyrl Inc's own, Tiffany and DJ Ausar of the Kalakuta show on 89.3 play an integral part in its success. The night came into play and Ausar opened it with a crazy mix of afrobeat, House and Broken Beat (or as he calls it - HouseBroken). The crowd picked up and as soon as Carlos came on, the floodgates opened even more. I do not know what Orishas came into that one space the first night, but it was BANANAS! It was so crazy that I ended up with scratches, bruises AND getting my hair stepped on! YES! By the way, that was NOT in any means for a PR move. When I heard 'The Bright Forest', I LOST IT! You see, many do not understand the reasoning behind this event. I tell folks this: It is not for all to understand if you are not in tune with the ancestors/Orishas. BUT if you are willing to give your ears a chance to experience bliss like NO other, I urge YOU to attend the NEXT one.

So I am MAD late with this post because I am slowly coming down from my HIGH from Winter Music Conference this year. EVERYTHING and ANYTHING that happened for the best came into play and I am thankful to be a part of such an amazing festival.

First and foremost, I want to say Thank You to the following:

Talaia, Soukeyna and Shana - These three right here are the business! Made the trip BOMB from day one! No cattiness, no drama and most importantly, everyone did their own thing and we all managed to meet up at the same place. Memories I shall cherish because you all are my sisters! I LOVE YOU ALL!

Yoli Chisholm - Such a pleasure getting to bond with my sis! I can truly say her wings are bigger and shall continue to immerse herself in positive vibes. Love You bunches, lady and Thank You for letting me do your makeup once again! You ARE FIERCE, baby!

Carlos Mena - This is my brother! Stellar sets during WMC. I mean it! Still mad about not getting that chocolate shake because they were out of Ice Cream. Where they do that at? LOL!

Madam CJ - She is my big sister and has taught me the realness from day ONE! Thank You for making this trip for me hilarious, yet memorable! DARKNESS!!!

Brian Scarlett - One word for you: Allriiiiiight! Always keeping it hundred no matter what.

Amonds Mack and Rodney Williams - One of the first to show me Love and open arms. Without these two, I truly would not be immersed in the scene as I am now. Made me a fierce chick times ten! I love having beautiful men by my side. I Love You with all my HEART!

The TRIBE RECORDS UK CREW (Dean, Kristelle and Matt) - Another banging party this year at The Vagabond. Thank You so much for the Love and keep bringing out the tunes!

The ATL crew - As you know, we did the damn thing and represented! We are a force to be reckoned with. Now we just gotta take it to the next level. Big ups RamonRawsoul, Salah Ananse, Ausar and any others. We are laying it down, folks!

Boddhi Satva - What can I say, brother? You are divine and such an honour to be acquainted with you. Still trying to find video from the dance circle that we were in when you called me out. Keep banging that goodness and by the way - Is that 'Window Seat' out?! HEAT!!!

South African Peeps - THANK YOU DJ FRESH for the Love! I had a blast at the South African Invasion! YOU DID THAT!!!

Djeff Afrozilla - Such a pleasure meeting you. Thank You for the CD and the shirt :)

My Toronto, Australia and London Peeps - Always a pleasure seeing EVERY single one of you! I plan to travel to see you all. Better have something on deck when a sista arrives!
