Nigerians Making Huge Sales From World Cup Fever

2014-06-10T09:21:00.002-07:00

Less than six days before the 20th FIFA World Cup kicks off in Brazil, Nigerian traders are saying they are bumper says on their goods.

The News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, reports that electronics and electrical appliances dealers at Alaba International Market, Ojo, Lagos State are the ones reaping the benefits the most.

It was gathered at the market that traders have been making good sales since some weeks ago because of the global football competition.

Some of the traders who spoke to NAN on the impact of the imminent competition on their businesses said they foresaw better sales ahead.

“Football is a culture in Nigeria and anything that can enable us to catch a glimpse of the World Cup feast will be sought for.

“For the past few days now, the demand for the Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) type of television sets have increased unlike what the situation was few months ago,” Mr Obinna Ojiego, a television seller said.

According to him, the increase in sale of electronics shows the huge interests Nigerians attach to football and especially to the world cup.

Another dealer, Uzo Onukwe, disclosed that with the competition few days away, he has been recording sales of five to 10 Flat Screen sets daily.

Onukwe informed that 'we always look forward to World Cup to make more sales'.

“Although there is no prize hike of the products, the joy of it is that the turnover is impressive at a faster rate,” he added.

A generator set seller, Mr Nzube Umeh, also stated that he had noticed an improved sales because of the forthcoming World Cup.

“The incessant power outage in the country has made Nigerians who do not want their watching matches on television to be disrupted during the competition have resorted to purchasing electricity generating sets.

“In anticipation of the competition and its accruing increase in sales, I have placed order for new products of good qualities,” Umeh said.

The Supervising Minister of Education, Nyesom Wike has assured Nigerians that the ongoing strikes by the Academic Staff Union Of Polytechnics (ASUP) and Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union (COEASU) will soon be over.

Exclusive: Arsenal In Secret Talks To Sign Man City Striker Stevan Jovetic

2014-01-21T11:37:00.001-08:00

Gunners still keen on Montenegrin ace.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has been locked in
secret talks with Manchester City counterpart
Manuel Pellegrini as he tries to secure a deal for
misfiring striker Stevan Jovetic.

Pellegrini wes not thought to be too keen on letting
the player leave for a rival club, but the City
board have told him that if his time at the club is
not productive then they would prefer a quick sale
so as to reinvest the cash in other areas of the
squad instead.
Jovetic joined City in the summer for a fee of
around £22m from Serie A giants Fiorentina.
However, injury problems coupled with the form of
Alvaro Negredo and Sergio Aguero have kept him
away from the starting XI and reduced him to
just three appearances in the league, though he
did bag a brace in the club's 5-0 victory over
Wigan Athletic in the Capital One Cup.
Arsenal had been looking into the possibility of
bringing him to the Emirates before the end of the
previous campaign, but Wenger instead opted to
try and bring Gonzalo Higauin to the club
instead, but missed out when he left for Napoli.

Jovetic is nearing full fitness after a hamstring
problem kept him sidelined throughout the
Christmas period, but with City already 6-0 up
on aggregate in the tie he has seen it as the ideal
opportunity to slowly integrate him back into
playing.
Despite his only action for City coming in dribs
and drabs, he did show what he can do against
England during the World Cup qualifiers last
year, and Wenger has seen enough of him
already to believe that he is worth the chance.
So far no fee has been mentioned, though sources
say that City will be looking for somewhere in the
region of £18m.

Pastor tries to walk on water

2014-01-03T06:01:00.001-08:00

Pastor Franck Kabele, 35, told his
congregation that he was capable of
reenacting the very miracles of Jesus
Christ. He decided to make it clear
through way of demonstration on
Gabon's beach in the capital city of Libreville.
Referencing Matthew 14:22-33, Kabele said that he received a
revelation which told him that with enough faith he could achieve
what Jesus was able to.
According to an eyewitness, Kabele took his congregation out to the
beach. He told them that he would cross the Kombo estuary by foot,
which is normally a 20 minute boat ride.
Sadly by the second step into the water Kabele found himself
completely submerged. He never returned.
This is not the first incident of this nature in Africa. At Ibadan zoo
in south-west Nigeria, a self-proclaimed Prophet claimed to be able to
do what the Daniel of the bible did by walking into a den full of
lions.
Though he was warned numerous times by zoo keepers, according to
NG Newspapers, the Prophet thought of them as nothing more than
enemies of progress. The Prophet, with a crowd of people watching,
put on a long red robe and proceeded to enter the cage full of lions.
Within seconds of opening the door, the lions ripped the Prophet from
flesh to bone. The bible should come with a warning label, "Don't try
this at home."...

Wonders will never end!
As LAGOS (AFP) - Samuel Akinbode Sadela, Nigeria's oldest preacher at 107, he is the founder of Gospel Apostolic Church, he has been on the pulpit for 75 years. BREAKING News: Fresh Confusion In Rivers As Police Shoot Live Ammunition, Teargas At State Lawmakers

2013-12-12T06:21:00.003-08:00

Twenty five members of the House of Assembly loyal to embattled Governor Rotimi Amaechi had met on the Assembly earlier today in compliance with a high court order barring the National Assembly from taking over the functions of the Assembly.
But as the lawmakers tried to gain entry, the police quickly descended on the Assembly and sealed off the complex. The lawmakers then decided to hold their sitting outside the complex.
But the police suddenly began shooting teargas and live ammunition at the lawmakers who quickly took to their heels scampering for safety. It is not known yet whether anyone was injured.
The deputy speaker of the Assembly, Leyii Kwani, who presided over the sitting could not be reached for comments. But the state Commissioner of Information, Ibim Semenitari confirmed the incident.
She said, “It is an indication of the impunity ravaging the country and a clear indication that the PDP under the present leadership has lost all forms of democratic conduct.
They can’t even pretend to wear a mien of civility rather they are practising jackboot governance and repression worse than we have ever seen under the military.” Ms. Semenitari said she would issue a full statement on the incident later.

Sports...Suarez Handed Extra Goal

2013-12-12T01:39:00.001-08:00

The dubious goals panel has decided to credit Liverpool forward Luis Suarez with an extra strike, extending his Premier League-leading tally to 15.

Suarez has been awarded the fourth goal in Liverpool’s 4-1 victory over West Ham last Saturday, which had originally been ruled an own goal by Hammers defender Joey O’Brien.
The 84th minute goal occurred when Suarez tried his luck from distance and his shot took a big deflection off O’Brien, leaving goalkeeper Jussi Jaaskelainen with no chance.
However, the panel has decided Suarez deserves the credit for the strike and he now has 15 for the season in just 10 games, having missed the first five matches of the campaign while he completed a suspension incurred for biting Chelsea’s Branislav Ivanovic last season.
Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero is now three goals behind Suarez in the goalscorer charts, having netted 12 in 14 matches.
The goals panel have also confirmed that Liverpool’s second goal in the defeat of West Ham will be Mamadou Sakho’s first for the club, being of the opinion that the ball had crossed the line before Martin Skrtel poked it into the net.
Meanwhile, Liverpool great Kenny Dalglish says the brilliance of Suarez is the key factor in Liverpool’s good start to the season.
Dalglish signed the Uruguayan forward from Ajax in January 2011 during his second spell in charge at Anfield and thinks the England defenders will be dreading their World Cup date with the striker next summer.
“I would have thought that, when the World Cup draw was made, there were a few English defenders thinking ‘Oh no, I’ve got to play him again, it’s bad enough twice during the season’,” Dalglish told Liverpool’s website. “You couldn’t write the script.
“People glossed over the second goal he scored against Norwich because of the brilliance of the other three, but the technique for the second goal was fantastic as well.
“Luis has been fantastic. He’s a great entertainer and he’s a humble guy.
“He’s somebody that really enjoys working in training. He is never a problem in training and he’s fantastic on the pitch.

"I Have A Soft Spot For Tigers": Animal Lover Lives With Seven Beasts " + Photos

2013-09-27T08:07:00.000-07:00

Yesterday, i posted a blog on a woman with a Rare Pet, Hmmn, Today, this..The ultimate on our minds remains "Why were these Animals classified as WILD ANIMALS?" Don't Ask me cos " i no know"

Brazilian Ary Borges, 43, loves tigers so much he shares his house with seven stripy beasts. And refuses any claims that such close proximity to the predators (weighing over 200 kilograms each) might be dangerous.

READ MORE: http://news.naij.com/48281.html

In the nearest future, Borges wants to build a 40-acre eco-park for the giant cats, right at his home in Maringa, near San Paolo.
Eight years ago, he bought two tigers from a circus and built a sanctuary for them in his garden. Despite having no previous experience of handling animals, hoping to prevent tigers' extinction, he started a breeding program. At his property, of course. However, the authorities soon realized he had no legal permit for such activities, and Borges had to discontinue his project.
The father-of-three lets the seven beasts roam freely around his house, swim in his pool. Moreover, he even lets his toddler granddaughter ride on their back.

Borges and his three daughters Nayara (20), Uyara (23), and Deusanira (24) feed them meat and walk them on leashes.
The patriarch says he was never worried about his daughters being around these animals. They show love and respect -- if it is mutual.
His little granddaughter Rayara, Uyara's child, is already interacting with tigers. Her mother says it is "safe," and that the little girl loves playing with them .

'I Want To Stay At Arsenal 'Forever' - Wenger

2013-09-27T07:48:00.002-07:00

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is ready to sign a new deal at the club and says he wants to stay at the club he loves

Wenger has been at the Arsenal since 1996, but eight years without a trophy had heightened speculation he could finally step down when his current deal expires next summer.

The Frenchman has previously kept coy on his contractual situation, admitting this season could determine his fate.
But Wenger says an impassioned show of support from majority shareholder Stan Kroenke of the eve of his 17th anniversary has come as a huge confidence boost.
"I'm very honoured to have the support of Stan Kroenke," said Wenger. "That he thinks I can help the club is a huge confidence vote. That is something that is very positive for me.
"I've had consistent support from inside the club. I'm very grateful because during my 17 years we have had ups and downs. They have always shown faith in me.
"I would love to be here forever because that would make me immortal! I love this club.
"I've turned down many offers (over the years). I've always thought this club is special. We have a team now that can compete and that's what we want to show.
"If I am still here today it is because I got that consistent support from inside the club.
"The good thing with me, if I have one quality, (it is that) you don't need a lot of talks to extend the contract I have.
"I want to focus on the quality of our season. I don't believe that anybody can question my Commitment to this club.
"I want to feel that I do well and then the question of me staying will be secondary after that."
The Gunners manager remained relaxed about the continuing negotiations.
He added: "(We will do it) when we find time. I don't think that is the most important problem at the moment."
American Kroenke had earlier told the Daily Telegraph of Wenger: "There's no one I feel more strongly about and I think he is doing a great job.
"We have been very supportive, we have never wavered, we are proud of him, proud of the club, the way the club is run and how it holds itself out to the world."

"Na wa oh...You wan live forever?"

INCREDIBLE: Photos of a Woman and Her Unusual Pet... A White Lion!

2013-09-26T06:35:00.001-07:00

Annel Snyman, a 31-year-old, from the Waterberg region of South Africa, has adopted a tiny cob of a white lion last spring. Now the lion, called Tima, is a year and six months old, weighs 120 kg and eats not less than 4 kg of fresh meat per day.

As a cub Timba could often be found snoozing in Annel's bed but having outgrown the bedroom the friendly feline still tries to cuddle up with Annel on the sofa.

Annel's love for animals started six years ago when, with help from her mother and father, she opened a guest house - called Loebies Guestfarm - on the land where she lives.

In a bid to make the resort more appealing she decided to adopt various farm animals and this eventually turned into hand-rearing African cats and other wild animals after being approached by someone in the game industry in 2009.

Since then Annel has hand-reared dozens of animals including six serval kittens, a cheetah cub, five lions, a white lion and a leopard.

Annel admits she spoilt the first lions she cared for even more than Timba and would regularly go swimming with them.

She said: 'Being the first lions reared on the farm, they ruled the house, the bed and the couches and would regularly join me for swims in the farm dam up until they were rather large.

'While most people are amazed, this has become my life and part of who I am.

'There are times when it is difficult to do day-to-day things but I do manage to live a normal life - well normal for me anyway,' the owner of an unconventional pet stated.

Find out out how the lion grew up by seeing the photoset below:

BREAKING: Delta's Most Wanted Criminal Mastermind Kelvin Ibruvwe Arrested (UPDATED)

2013-09-26T06:25:00.001-07:00

The most wanted felon, the mastermind behind numerous crimes of Niger Delta has been apprehended today by the State Security Services' (SSS) operatives in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
The infamous kidnap kingpin, Kelvin Ibruvwe, was caught Wednesday morning (September 25, 2013) -- a week after declaring a 60-day ultimatum on the Federal Government to provide infrastructure for his Urhobo kinsmen in Delta State, or face devastating destruction of oil and gas production facilities in the area.
The criminal was detected in a hotel, and arrested in the early morning hours.
It would be recalled that Kelvin Ibruvwe was responsible for the kidnap of and killing of Dr. Chudi Nwike a former Deputy Governor of Anambra State, while in captivity.

Among his other atrocities, Ibruvwe allegedly set an ambush for a Nigeria Prisons Service vehicle conveying suspects to Warri, and, in an attempt to free his trial-awaiting gang members, shot three warders dead.

Two members of the gang reportedly escaped arrest. It has been learnt Kelvin and five others arrested with him were flown to Abuja by the DSS, for further interrogation.

In a parallel development, a shootout took place in the afternoon of September 25, Wednesday, between Ibruvwe's supporters in his country home, Kokori, Ethiope-East Local Government Area, Delta State, and soldiers, who arrested the chief priest (Ose Igba) of Kokorki, alleged to have provided charms for Kelvin and his gang.
