Explanation: What are those strange clouds stretching out from these lakes? The clouds are caused by cold air moving over a warm water and result in bands of lake-effect snow. The rising bands of moistened, warmed air that drop lake-effect snow alternate with clear bands of falling cold air. During a winter, such bands can create hundreds of centimeters of snow more than upwind areas only a hundred kilometers away.

Probably the biggest problem with cars in cities is that they require huge amounts of land for storage (a.k.a. parking). Here is a photo of Midtown Atlanta between 5th street and 12th street. This is one of the densest and most pedestrian-friendly ares in the entire state of Georgia. The red blocks indicate parcels of land that are 100% dedicated to car storage. A close competitor that also has Minnesota roots is Baja Joe’s. A burger concept opened in an old Don Pablo’s in Columbus, Ohio but the Baja Sol restaurant chain. That didn’t work out either.

The carpet was ripped on the floor and the plane was LOUD when I flew Aeroflot between Anchorage and Khaborovsk. Apparently, their standards are higher on international flights than domestic.
