Really? Four languages in a few years? I suppose if your job depended on it like this guys did, you’d have to figure out some sort of system.

Here are his steps: 1. Pronunciation

2. Vocabulary and Grammar

3. Listen, Write, Read

4. Speak

Sounds simple, right? I’m guessing the hardest point is not giving up somewhere in between Steps 2 and 3.

I would love to hear if anyone else has either used this method (successfully?) or developed their own method.

And yet describing a city’s essence is (at least for me) very hard to do. The greater the city the more nervous I am about trying to capture it in words. Then when I read someone else’s fabulous description of a fabulous place it makes my heart skip a beat and I think finally, someone has put it exactly right.

Unless you’re being paid to travel as part of your career, it can get expensive! I think traveling is great, but there are lots of little costs that add up over the duration of a vacation that are easy to account for when budgeting. The most obvious things you probably budget for are transportation and accommodations, but what about food and entertainment? What about insurance and travel gear?

My husband and I have just spent 8 days in Vancouver, a city that is more expensive to . . .

Welcome to Part 3 of a 3 part series on preserving your travel memories. You’ve traveled to make memories, written them down and snapped them up.

Don’t stop there….the final step is to get continual enjoyment out of your travels by showing off your memories! Do it for yourself, your family, and your friends who traveled vicariously through you.

Here are some cool ways to show off your goods (other than making boring slideshow presentations, wearable photo t-shirts, custom-printed mugs, and awkward photo albums. Those are decidedly not cool).

Online Photo Sharing – flickr, . . .

My memory is like a sieve. Some things stay rattling around in my brain, other things fall through the holes and are hard to retrieve. It’s fine to forget things like heartache, fights with friends, or bad Christmas presents. But it is frustrating to forget important conversations, experiences, and past events. I especially want to remember my travels, so I’ve developed a few tricks to help with the memory retention and recall. Here’s the first:

Red Bull, the event sponsor, brought motocross right into the city – dirt piles, log-jumping, rock gardens and all. It was a big course so I’m including two pictures today.

If there was one thing I could bring home with us from Auckland, it would be this. It’s a path for runners which traces the water’s edge away from downtown, past one of Auckland’s sailboat marinas, and out to the 3 East Coast beaches. Doesn’t it make you feel like running!?
