Philadelphia Soul Arena Football + A Disney Concert = Family Friendly Football

My family and I received complimentary tickets to attend this event. All opinions are my own.

Two weeks ago, the Philadelphia Soul hosted a Daddy Daughter Night featuring a concert with some of my kids' favorite Disney stars. When my family and I were invited to attend, I decided it would be so much fun to surprise them instead of telling them where we were going.

Since I have heard nothing but great things about the Philadelphia Soul, I was super excited for the chance to enjoy our first arena football game as a family. My husband and son love sports, so I knew they would enjoy the opportunity to kick back and relax. As for my 6-year-old daughter, I wasn't so sure how she would handle watching a football game, but I figured I could always bribe her to behave by telling her all about the Disney concert that was set to follow at the end of the game.

We decided to stop and eat before the game at Celebre's, one of our favorite pizza spots in South Philly. When my husband and I were dating many moons ago, we always made it a tradition to head out to Celebre's before games and events and we knew our kids would enjoy it as much as we always do. During dinner the kids played a guessing game as to where we were going and they had themselves convinced we were heading to a Phillies game. I couldn't help but chuckle to myself as they had no idea what was in store.

We arrived at the game just as the game was beginning. Parking was quick and easy; and a $15, it was the usual cost we are used to paying when attending events. The massive Philadelphia Soul inflatable player gave away our surprise as we began walking toward the Wells Fargo Center. Both kids were thrilled, and I was so relieved to see that my 6-year-old daughter appeared to be as excited as my 10-year-old son.

Almost immediately after entering, my kids began spotting t-shirts and signs with pictures of the Disney Stars. At first they just pointed them out but in no time at all they began asking questions. I finally gave in and broke then news that we would be staying for the post concert - and let's just say that the squeal that came out of my daughter's mouth literally made heads turn. Success!

As we headed off to find our seats, we were greeted in the halls by the Philadelphia Soul's super cool mascot as well as several Philadelphia Soul cheerleaders. My daughter was in awe at "how beautiful" the cheerleaders were and she could not wait to sit and watch them perform. Right from the start, I instantly got the vibe that the Soul games are super family friendly and relaxed - just as I was hoping.

The game was super fast paced and energetic. The team really played well together and the fans certainly are very loyal to the team. We did not hear any negativity or foul language - the entire atmosphere was super family friendly, welcoming and not overly crowded. We lounged in our comfortable seats and took it all in. Like most other sporting events, there was plenty of vendors circulating with various food items and goodies. We found it to be no problem at all to get up for bathroom breaks or stretches. I will say that souvenirs, food and drink items were quite pricey - but I was not too surprised since that seems to be the norm at most events we have attended. I was glad we stopped to eat before heading to the game - that certainly cut back on overspending during our visit.

At the end of the event, we had the pleasure of meeting and grabbing a picture with some of the Philadelphia Soul team players and cheerleaders as well as the highlight of my husband's night - meeting Ron Jaworski, a co-owner of the Philadelphia Soul. Ron and all of the players were so awesome. They took time to greet the kids and sign autographs. You could really see just how much these guys really enjoy the fans.

Soon thereafter, fans began moving to the designated concert area to find seats for the post concert. Disney stars Adrian R'Mante (Estaban Ramierz on the Suite Life of Zack and Cody) and Sierra McCormick (Olive Doyle on A.N.T. Farm) were the hosts of the show. Since my kids both love watching all of the popular Disney shows, they were in awe. The concert was a blast and both kids really enjoyed seeing all of the young, up and coming stars and their amazing talent. The concert was much longer than we expected; both kids loved every minute of it. The finale and perfect way to end the show was a performance by another Disney favorite, the beautiful Caroline Sunshine (from Disney's Shake it Up). All of the stars were incredibly down to Earth and did a fantastic job entertaining and mingling with the crowd. This was such a perfect first concert experience for both kids. They had such a great time that they both chatted all the way home about their "amazing day".

Many thanks to the Philadelphia Soul for inviting our family to enjoy their game and this special Disney concert event. We had such a blast and we look forward to attending upcoming Philadelphia Soul games in the near future. I think we may have found a new favorite family sporting event!

Tuckerton Seaport & Baymen's Museum - A Family Fun Jersey Shore Destination #Tuckerton

One of our family's favorite things to do each summer is to plan a list of day trips that we can enjoy together. It's one of our favorite ways to get away without too much effort and the kids get excited about visiting new places we have never been. Every year I go on a mission to find some new destinations for our list and this year we were super excited to add Tuckerton Seaport & Baymen's Museum as a new adventure.

Located about 1 1/2 hours from Delaware County and just 30 miles North of Atlantic City, the Tuckerton Museum is one of the largest grassroots maritime museums in the country. Located in the Jersey Shore's historic town of Tuckerton, this museum is chuck full of history, exhibits, hands on activities, play spots for the kids and more. Throughout the year, the museum hosts fun filled events such as the upcoming Bayman's Seafood & Music Festival, the Red Wine & Blues Festival, NJ Maritime Heritage Festival and Antique & Classic Boat Festival and a Seaport Antique Car & Truck Festival. My family and I were thrilled to be invited to attend the Privateers and Pirates festival last weekend - and I am pretty certain that it made this already awesome museum even that much more fun for the kids.

After meeting up with some of our favorite blogger friends, we grabbed our treasure maps and started on our adventure. There is nothing like a treasure map - with a promise of a treasure at the end - to peak the kids' interest!

Learned all about cannons,

Enjoyed some music and shopping

Hung out with more pirates,

Toured the Lighthouse and Surf Museum

Walked along the boardwalk and enjoyed some of the sites

Played Mini Golf

Enjoyed some playtime

Learned how boats are made

And made their very own pirate ships!

All in all, we had an awesome day! We were so impressed with all that this fun Jersey Shore destination had to offer. What a perfect family day trip - and a great way to not only spend some quality time - but to learn so much while visiting!

Of course, my kids could not wait to turn in their treasure maps and claim their treasure!

Tonight our family headed out to Rita's Italian Ice for dessert. We ordered a few of our favorite treats and as the server tallied our order, she asked if we would like to purchase a paper lemon for $1 to support Alex's Lemonade Stand foundation. We happily obliged, wrote our family's name on the paper lemon and sat on a bench to enjoy our dessert as a family.

An overwhelming feeling came over me as I sat and watched my kids giggling and enjoying their treat. It was a moment that made me stop to think about just how blessed I am to have two happy and healthy children. So many times we take these little moments for granted. I hugged both of them as their water ice and ice cream smeared all over my cheeks. Oh how I love those icky sticky kisses!

By the time we got home, it was time to tuck them into bed and kiss them goodnight. As I watched their eyes close to sleep, I thought of Alex Scott, founder of Alex's Lemonade Stand. Alex - a sweet, beautiful child - filled with so much drive and determination. A child battling cancer herself - using her whole heart and soul to make a difference in the lives of those like her affected by cancer. I thought about all of the hope she has inspired in us all. What a bright little star she was - her life taken much too soon - but leaving behind a legacy that many never accomplish in their lifetime. Her spirit shines bright with glimmers of hope for all who hope to end this horrible disease forever. I thought about what a difference we can all make if we continue her legacy and help to support this amazing foundation she inspired.

Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation is again partnering with Rita's Italian Ice this year to raise money to assist with travel needs of families with children battling cancer. Their goal is to raise $1 million over the next two years. Now through June 18th, Rita's Water Ice will be selling $1 paper lemons to display on their "Wall of Hope". By making a donation, you will be making a difference in the lives of these very brave children and their families. Guests also have the option to Text-To-Donate a one time $5 donation.

When life gives you lemons. . .you make Alex's Lemonade!

When my daughter was first diagnosed with a brain tumor, I knew nothing about Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation for Childhood Cancer (ALSF). Then one morning in June while she was upstairs at the Children's Hospital of Phildelphia in the PICU recovering from brain surgery, I went downstairs to buy a cup of lemonade.

CHOP was buzzing with excitement--it was the ALSF annual Lemonade Days. I, however, was in a bad place. The day before Lily had complications during a procedure. I hated the world. I hated everything and everyone. I was spent.
Then I heard Liz Scott speak. I only remember one word that Liz said:
Hope.
Hearing this amazing woman and mother, who lost her child, tell me to have hope, saved me.

My daughter Lily is 7-year-olds and a brain tumor survivor. She was diagnosed when she was 14-months old, after weeks of throwing up. Her pediatrician kept diagnosing a GI bug and a bladder infection. Finally, we begged for more answers and we were sent to the emergency room at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.

Within 30 minutes we had our answer: a brain tumor.

Those are two words, you never, ever want to hear as a parent.

Lily has endured multiple brain surgeries, seven weeks of proton radiation and continued therapies to help improve her motor skills and strengthen her muscles. Brain surgery damaged Lily's overall muscle tone and coordination. Therapy and hard work has brought Lily full circle. The little girl who once could not walk, now runs and tumbles and dances. She is a shining beacon of hope and strength and love.

But we know that Lily's battle is not unique. Everyday, 46 children are diagnosed with childhood cancer. Everyday, 46 mothers and fathers learn that their child will begin the fight for their lives. Seven children die everyday at the hands of childhood cancer.

46 children is 46 too many. The suffering has to stop.

It because of these children that our family holds an Alex's Lemonade Stand to support ALSF every year. For the past five years, our family has hosted a Lemonade Stand in our front yard and online to raise money for Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation for Childhood Cancer.

Childhood cancer research is consistently underfunded and under researched. But ALSF is working to change that. Since 2004, the foundation has made a major impact--raising over $50 million for research. It all started with Alex--a little girl who was really sick and really wise. Alex knew that every penny counts and every donation adds up.

This year, our family aims to raise $10,000 for a cure to all forms of childhood cancer. It is an enormous goal--but it is one we hope to reach with the help of kind and generous friends.

Every donation--whether $5 or $50 counts. When you buy a cup (or 100 cups, please!), you will be sipping in the beautiful stories of some of my favorite people in the world, my heroes. In honor of all those children, mothers, fathers, brothers and sisters who fight, have fought and will continue to sell lemonade for their friends, until cures for pediatric cancer are found, I ask, I beg you to raise a glass to these amazing blessings.

Together, we will beat childhood cancer, one icy cold, sweet cup of lemonade at a time!

Krispy Kreme Havertown, PA - Donuts, Coffee and "FUN"D Raising!

You know it is going to be a great day when you start your morning with the smell of freshly baked donuts and piping hot fresh-brewed coffee. And when that donut happens to be a Krispy Kreme Donut - well - let's just say that happiness lasts the whole day through (at least for me it did!).

Two weeks ago, I was invited to join several local bloggers for a relaxing and informative Blogger Brunch at the new Krispy Kreme in Havertown, PA. Located in the Manoa Shopping Center, the store is a great place to grab a coffee and donut (or dozen) and sit back, relax and maybe even take advantage of the store's free Wi-Fi! The donut selection is ahhhh-mazing and we were lucky enough to sample an assortment of flavors while visiting. Glazed Sour Cream is my absolute favorite (second only to the Original Glazed) - but I was also especially impressed with the Key Lime Cheesecake. Hey - I can honestly say there wasn't a single flavor that I did not like. I was also excited to learn that they carry Frozen Hot Chocolate and Berry Chillers, which are both super yummy and wonderfully refreshing on a hot day. You will find tea, lattes and other assorted beverages on the menu as well.

Their assortment of donuts is just heavenly. One peek at the donut case is enough to bring on a craving, huh?

But if that doesn't do it - this definitely will...

YUMMMMMMM!!!!!

Some facts I learned while visiting the Havertown location:

There are 646 Krispy Kreme locations worldwide in 21 different countries (I had no idea!!!)
Two cousins from the Philadelphia area, Brian Zaslow and Keith Morgan are responsible for bringing back Krispy Kreme to the Philadelphia area (WOOT! Big cheers for this awesome duo!!!) - Their plan is to open more stores in the PA, Delaware and New Jersey areas in the near future.
Krispy Kreme Philly locations are NUT FREE and TRANS-FAT FREE ( Huge bonus for those with tree nut allergies or looking for nut free snacks to bring to share at parties and gatherings)
Krispy Kreme has some great Fundraising opportunities which are a "sweet" way to make some money for your organization. - who wouldn't love some coffee and donuts? Best of all you can make 50% or more return on your fundraisers!

I must say - I had a wonderful time hanging out at this bright, cheery new location with some of my favorite blogger friends. It is such a great place to meet up and chat or get some work done while enjoying some fresh brewed coffee. Noshing on Krispy Kreme donuts was such a treat and I am looking forward to returning soon with my kids during their summer break for a special end of school snack.

Moms Everywhere are Discovering Their Swimsuit Confidence - Thanks to Lands End!

The pool opens in 3 days. Ready or not, it is time to get out my swimsuit and get ready to ring in the summer with family and friends. I made a pact with myself that despite my body's imperfections, I will not sit around all day at the pool in my cover up. I have sadly watched so many Moms sitting uncomfortably in their cover ups or wrapped in towels to cover their bodies - some all summer long. I promised myself that despite the fact that I have been guilty of doing so in the past, I am not going to sit back and miss out on the fun.

I am going to enjoy this summer laughing and jumping in the pool with my kids. I am going to sit on the beach next to them and build sand castles. I am going to run with them as fast as I can into the ocean and jump over the waves. I am going to do all of this and more. Why? Because I can. Because I am healthy and I deserve to enjoy the summer as much as they do. Because they deserve to have their Mom join them while they splish and splash run and jump. And because every Mom deserves to find their swimsuit confidence - even me!

As a Mom of three children, I certainly do not have the body of the gorgeous swim models we see gracing all of the swimsuit catalogs and magazines. I am a real woman - one with curves. If you look back on family photo albums in our house, I can guarantee you that you will not find any recent pictures of me in a swimsuit - heck, it's hard enough to get a picture of me fully clothed! When it comes to bathing suit shopping, I always cringe at the thought, but after attending a Social Media Mom Mixer in Philadelphia this spring - all of that changed when I saw the wide variety of swimsuits Lands End has to offer.

Lands End has an amazing swimsuit collection with details and designs to fit every shape, age and body. You will find solids and prints, colors and styles that flatter everyone. You will find pieces that you can mix and match to compliment your body type. Many styles offer shirring to cover imperfections and extra firming material, especially around the mid section to help smooth and shape. Women can find suits ranging from size 2 to 26W and cup sizes to DDD. They even make special suits for women who have had a mastectomy. You can cover a little or cover a lot - or even layer bikinis and tankinis to find the look that works for you. I am absolutely amazed at the variety of styles - and I was quite excited for the chance to choose one to review. And - although quite nervous at the idea - I feel privileged to be joining several bloggers all over the blogosphere this week to pose in my swimsuit as a part of National Swimsuit Confidence Week - to show that all women deserve to feel comfortable and confident in their swimsuit - no matter what size or shape they may be! My hats off to Lands End for encouraging all women to be confident and embrace the joys of summer!

I have found that spending everyday at the pool, I prefer a suit with enough coverage to be able to walk around and chase after my kids without having to grab a cover up. A swim skirt works particularly well for this along with a tankini top. I prefer tankinis as they are great for mixing and matching to create several new looks.

Since I tend to always gravitate toward black, I decided to switch things up a bit and choose a navy swim mini with tummy control (Yay! Belly camouflage - just what I need!) and the colorful, pretty Beach Living sea spray Bardot floral adjustable scoop neck tankini top. Since I am short (5'2"), I was especially happy to see that Lands End also offers petite sizing and I went ahead and ordered the swim mini in a petite.

I love the smoothing properties of the tummy control swim mini. It also has a nice, wide band at the waist to further enhance the smoothing effect. I wish the waist band came just a little higher to smooth a bit more of my tummy bulge, but for the most part I am really happy with the fit. I love the color and pattern of the tankini top. The pop of color is especially fun and gives the suit a little personality. The adjustable top also helps me to get the perfect fit and keep it in place, especially for those times when I am bending down or lifting the kids. I also love the option of wearing the straps X back or straight. The adjustable straps enhance the fit and overall comfort of the top. The built in underwire bra offers extra lift and shape. All of these little details are what helps to make the overall look so much more flattering than other suits that I have tried. And if this is not enough - both pieces offer UPF 50 sun protection - especially wonderful since I spend long days in the sun at the pool.

Overall, I am thrilled with my swimsuit choice and I am hoping to try a few other styles from Lands End as well. I love that I can try on pieces before purchasing by heading over to Sears, where many of the Lands End bathing suits are right in stock!

Thanks to Lands End - This year I have found my Swimsuit Confidence - and for the first time in a very long time and I am ready to let it shine. I say bring on Memorial Day! I am ready to enjoy all this summer has to offer!

I am looking to update some decor in my home, so with all of this new found inspiration, I am going to put my creative side to the test - and hopefully get together a few more times throughout the upcoming months with my favorite crafty friends. Let me tell you - crafting is so much more fun with a group! Hopefully as I complete my projects, I can share them with you and inspire you to do a few of your own.

Craft night at A.C. Moore was a blast - and incredibly informative. Our group was joined by A.C. Moore's director of Education, Marketing Manager and Activity Coordinator, A.C. Moore's PR Rep and a representative from Beacon Adhesives (which by the way are ahhhh-mazing!) We learned a little about the company, some of A.C. Moore's products, all about Beacon Adhesives and heard about A.C. Moore's upcoming Summer Fun Wednesdays - which are perfect for keeping the kids busy when school is out this summer!

Be sure to mark your calendars! This summer's Summer Fun Wednesdays are kicking off on Wednesday June 26th from 1PM - 3 PM at all A.C. Moore locations. This craft event is extra special because A.C. Moore is partnering with Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation. For just $1, customers can purchase a canvas bag and decorate it for free at the store using Simply Spray Fabric Paints. Best of all, for each canvas bag purchased, the $1 fee will go directly to ALSF. Special paper lemons will also be available for purchase for this amazing cause. Bags and lemons will be available for purchase throughout the entire day - so even if you cannot attend the craft hour, consider stopping by to purchase a bag for a future project!

After learning all about A.C. Moore's products and programs, we had the opportunity to get to work on two really great crafts.

Lucky for us, some of the prep work was already done for us, which made the project a bit quicker to complete. A.C. Moore spoiled us with all of the tools and accessories needed to fully complete both projects. In addition, each project was accompanied by step by step instructions, making it easier to complete at home if needed.

The first project we attempted was the Paper Patchwork Composition Book. I was really excited to make this as I thought it would make a great gift for my daughter Ashley, who graduated from college last weekend. I figured it could function as a journal or a place where she could keep notes for upcoming job prospects and interviews. I loved how this turned out and I was amazed at how easy this one was to put together. I am hoping to take some time to make another one for myself to use for all of my blogging notes or when I attend blog events and conferences.

Although the second project was a bit more time consuming, all of the effort was well worth it, as I am in love with the finished project. This one is called The Quilled Roses Mini Wreath. Although we started the project at the store, creating the mini roses took some time and I ended up having to finish them at home. Now I have to find the perfect place to hang it in my home!

Koru Creamery Style Yoghurt {Review}

Yogurt is a staple in our house. It's a great snack that my whole family enjoys and one I feel good about giving my children. You can bet that I was pretty excited to learn about a fairly new yoghurt brand at the Spring Mom Mixer I attended last month in Philadelphia and even more thrilled to give it a try.

Let me introduce you to Koru Yoghurt! Koru is a New Zealand creamery style yoghurt made with high quality ingredients and contains no preservatives. It is lightly sweetened with sugar and honey and contains real fruit. I will admit - I was wondering what they meant by "creamery style" before trying the product, but once I opened the cup and dipped my spoon into the smooth, creamy yoghurt, I could see right away what they mean. It's smooth, creamy texture is such a perfect consistency - not too thick and not to runny - it's just perfect. It's that heavenly, melt-in-your mouth goodness that makes you go "yummmm" taste!

The other thing that got me wondering when I was checking out the products was what the "h" in yoghurt is all about? Basically it is a way of making a statement that this yoghurt a little unique, like it's own way of standing out from the rest. I, personally, think it's rather cool!

Koru Yoghurt comes in five delicious and unique flavors, all of which I had the pleasure of trying (with the assistance of my family). Flavors include Peach. Mango, Passion Fruit, Cherry + Pomegranate, and Strawberry + Gogi.

Each cup is clear so you can see the contents inside. The fruit is layered at the bottom of the cup and the yoghurt is on the top. The best way to eat the yogurt is to dip a spoon in prior to eating and mixing the contents well. The yogurt itself without mixing the fruit into it reminded me of the taste of plain Greek yogurt. Mixing the fruit into it gives it an extra sweetness which makes it taste like a yummy dessert!

As you can see from the video, my kids really enjoyed the yoghurt and have asked me since to buy more of both flavors that they tried. I let them try the other three flavors (mango, peach and passion fruit) when I was reviewing them and they were not as excited as they were about the two they originally tried. I will have to agree that the Cherry + Pomegranate and Strawberry + Gogi were my favorites as well. I also happen to be a big fan of peach so peach, too, was pretty close to the top of my list. And although the Mango and Passion Fruit were good, both were a bit sweeter than the others, which was a bit sweeter than I would usually enjoy. I wish the fruit was separated in a more convenient way that I could control how much fruit mixes in with the yoghurt in which case the sweetness of the mango and passion fruit would be a little easier for me to control. Either way, now that we have found our favorites, we will be sure to keep these on hand for a truly delicious snack our whole family can enjoy.

Fairy Tales Hair Care All Natural and Organic Detangling Products {Review & Giveaway)

I am trying to be more diligent in replacing many of our frequently used products in our home with natural and organic options whenever possible. Fairy Tales Hair Care is an extensive line of products which are all natural and paraben and sulfate free. The products contain organic herbs such as rosemary, tea tree, peppermint, lavender and geranium oils, which are not only effective, but they also happen to smell great too! As a Mom, I feel safe using these products on my family and I love that they are gentle yet very effective on the hair. I have been using their Rosemary Repel lice prevention products for quite sometime now and I have not only loved the way they make my children's hair smell and feel, but even more important - neither of my children have contracted lice since we started using them.

My daughter has curly hair, which is extremely prone to tangles, so I was especially excited when Fairy Tales contacted me to see if I would be interested in a review of their No More Knots line of products. I could not wait to put them to the test!

My family and I received a pack filled with hair care and styling products, which included Super-Charge Detangling Shampoo, Tear Free Conditioning Shampoo and Energizing Leave-In Conditioner. This product line is meant to condition and detangle. I should note the No More Knots line of products are not lice preventive and should not be confused with the Rospemary Repel line, which are specifically formulated to prevent lice.

The Super Charge Detangling Shampoo is formulated with jojoba, aloe vera and Vitamins B and E and is Tear Free, so no worries about irritating little eyes. The minute you pour it out of the bottle, you immediately smell its clean, pleasant scent. My daughter kept smelling the bottle saying how much she loved it! It is creamy and very easy to lather through the hair. It rinses easily and you can feel the detangling properties as you run it through the hair. I was thrilled that I could feel a difference in her hair as I washed it.

Since tangling and frizz are common with curly hair, we always follow with a conditioner. The Detangling Conditioner contains extracts of aloe vera, cherry bark and chamomile. Once again, the scent was the first thing I recognized. It is such a lovely smell and my daughter was excited to give it a try. The creamy consistency easily spreads through the hair, and although it feels rich and luxurious, there was no tangling of hair in my hands or fingers when applying the product. It rinsed out easily with minimal effort. I was impressed that you can actually feel the softness and moisture it leaves behind. I found that by letting it sit on the hair a few extra minutes before rinsing left hair extra shiny and soft!

A detangler is something we have also added to my daughter's hair care routine so I was excited to try the Energizing Leave In Conditioner. We have been using the Rosemary Repel Leave In Spray for quite some time now by recommendation of a friend and it has worked beautifully on her hair. The leave in conditioner that I received for review is a cream rather than a spray and is enriched with passion flower, cherry bark, rosemary, soy and wheat proteins. I'll admit that I was a little worried that its consistency may be a little heavy for my daughters curls and weigh down her hair. Much to my surprise, I found that it did the exact opposite - instead it left her with clean-smelling, springy, bouncy curls!
