If you are looking for a peaceful and natural place to spend your vacations or honeymoon then nothing can be better for you than Naukuchiatal. This visiting place is located in the Indian state of Uttarakhand.

This place is full of natural beauty and romantic views and sceneries. It is actually a lake village situated between the hills of district Nainital. This lake is popular all around the world because of its breath taking views, peaceful atmosphere and healthy weather. The whole area is surrounded by mountains and trees. There is another interesting thing about this place which is its name. This place is known as Naukuchiatal which means “Nine Cornered Lake”.

Several tourists from all around the world have stated this place as one of the best lake views. There is a famous perception about this place is that “ A person who sees all nine corners of this lake at once, he gets Nirvana which means soulful state of bliss and eternity. There is another perception about this place is that this lake is created by naturally fed spring which is beneath the hills of this valley. This lake owns all qualities which a person can expect in his ideal vising place. Apart from natural beauty and glamorous views this place also offers a wide range of wild life. Hundreds of wild species are living here in their natural life style which gives a big opportunity for tourists to see the Indian wild life in its true color.

The lake is also most favorite point for adventurers which is providing them a big opportunity for adventure, thrilling, and for other scout sports. This lake offers a whole list of activities for adventurers sports to enjoy like parasailing, river rafting, trekking and paragliding.

Nearest visiting points

Kamal Tal is another lake just adjacent to Naukuchiatal, but it’s not for boating. As the name suggests, it is lake full of lotus flowers (Lotus means Kamal in Hindi and Tal means Lake). You can only enjoy the flowers of Kamal Tal. Another famous tourist spots near to this place is Bhimtal. Bhimtal Lake is just 4 kilo meter away from Naukuchiatal village. At Bhimtal, you can find a lot of thing to enjoy for adventure seekers. Bhimtal Lake has a unique restaurant in the middle and it offers a big opportunity for boating, rafting and other adventurous activities. Sattal is just another lake site which is situated near to Naukuchiatal. This lake is also popular because of its beautiful sceneries. This place is a bit small however you can find here a wide range of luxurious hotels to stay and relax.

Travelling

There are many options for travelling available in this small village like bus, taxi, boat and horse riding. However Horse riding and boating is more popular transport mean in this region.

Walking

As I have discussed before that this is a small village so usually people like to walk while going anywhere within the town. Usually tourists also like to visit this region by travelling on foot.

Horse Riding

Horse riding is a very popular transport mean in this area. Usually horse riding is not used as a transport mean. It is just used for fun and adventure. Boating is another adventure opportunity which this region offers to visitors. You can easily enjoy horse riding or boating within 150 Rs to 200 Rs.

Bus

You can also avail bus as a transport mean to travel to the other nearby regions of this area. These buses travel through the length of the village before moving to the other village which takes too much time while going to any nearby town on bus. Buses are also very few and in bad conditions.

Taxi

Taxis are another popular travelling mean of this region which is also more comfortable as compare to buses. The fares of taxis range from 13 rupees per km to 15 rupees per km. Taxi might be the best travelling option for you if you are visiting Naukuchiatal for the first time.

Best time to visit

The best time to visit this beautiful lake Naukuchiatal is from March to June and September to November. Here the winter season is much severe and usually tourist activities remain low in winter season.

Mcleodganj is actually suburb of Dharamshala in Himachal Pradesh. It is located on Dhauladhar Range of Himalayas. This place is also known as upper Dharamshala and it was named as Mcleodganj after David Mcleod who was the governor of Punjab in the ruling era of British government. This place is better known as a learning origin for Tibetan culture. This place is also called Little Lhasa and Tibet communities are settled here for more than three decades. Dalai Lama was the one who brought Tibet communities here after escaping from Tibet. The Prime minister of India; Shri Jawahar Lal Nehru gave this place to Dalai Lama to settle here in 1959. Now thousands of Tibetans are living here permanently and this place now reflects a Tibetan culture rather than Indian.

Mcleodganj is also a famous hill resort for tourism purpose and thousands of tourists come to visit this place every year. Mcleodganj is full of pine forests, peaceful atmosphere and rich with ultimate natural beauty which makes this place ideal to spend vacations. So if you are looking for a perfect place to spend your vacations in utter peace or to go for a trip of hill destination then Mcleod Ganj is for you. Here, I will discuss few things about this place in tourism prospective.

Culture of Mcleod Ganj: The culture of Mcleodganj is more like a mixture of Tibetan and Indian culture which is the big reason behind the fame of this region. There are many ancient temples and monuments which ought to be visited. These temples reflect the culture of Buddhism. This place is a learning center of Buddhism and thousands of followers of this religion are settled here with their own religious lifestyles.

Besides Tibetan lifestyle and temples you can also enjoy visiting museums in Mcleodganj. You can find several attractive things to view in these museums which reflect Tibetan and British colonial culture. These museums are full of paintings, historical items and handicrafts of local people.

Shopping Place: The main shopping markets in Mcleodganj for tourists are Jogibara, Temple Road, and Bhagsu Road. You can find several traditional and historical items from these markets which reflect the cultural heritage of this region. These shops usually open at 9 pm and remain open till night. Tibetan carpets are one of the famous items of these markets. These carpets are hand woven by newly arrived Tibetan refugees.

Hotels and Hill Resorts: Another good thing about Mcleodganj is that you can live here without spending a hell of money. You can find a hotel room for 4 thousand rupees to 6 thousand rupees easily. However in peak seasons it becomes difficult to find a room. You can also book rooms in hill resorts which is a cheaper option as compare to hotels. In resorts you can find a room in just 2000 to 4000 INR. These resorts also offer heater and internet facilities to visitors.

Food: Mcleodganj is also full of numerous restaurants which offer all local and international foods like chines, continental and pure Indian food. Vegetarian can eat at Lung Ta restaurant which is a famous Japanese hotel. “Pema Thag Pizzeria” is another good option for delicious Pizzas which is located at Bhagsu Road. You can also find few Tibetan restaurants at Jogibara Road. This road is full of chines, Indian and Tibetan restaurants.

Best time to visit: The best time to visit Mcleodganj is depend on your mood because this is equally popular in all seasons. In hot summer you can enjoy a pleasant weather and healthy air however in winter this place offers you to enjoy snow falling and beautiful mountains covered by white snow. In summer time the temperature of this region remains between 22 degree Celsius and 35degree Celsius but in winter season temperature goes near to zero degree or lower. Snowfall here is also very usual in December and January. Look our below at Mcleodganj Photo Gallery!

One of the best ways to travel from Shimla to Manali is to hit the road in a personal or rented four wheeler. This gives one option to explore more on the way, when they have enough time to explore both the places. Besides, this gives one, more flexibility. Most part of the drive will be along the NH 22, which takes diversion to Khanag. From here, 1/3rd of the remaining route will be on this route, which will eventually join the NH 21, towards Kullu and then finally reach Manali after traveling for about 27 miles. This is the shortest route that needs one to travel about 77.7 miles. If one wants to have an elaborate plan with visiting places like Sunder Nagar, Mandi in between, they have to take a longer route visiting Dharlaghat, Ghagas, Sundenagar and Mandi before reaching Manali, which almost doubles the distance between Shimla and Manali to 165 miles. The perfect shortest tour will of course need one to visit fewer places. A straight route is through Theog, Narkanda, Khanag, Bhunter, Kullu and finally Manali. This will not only take off the strain of driving the car or four wheeler, but also give one enough time to click pictures of scenic beauty they get to view while traveling from Shimla to Manali. Most rental agencies charge anywhere between 08 INR to 15 INR, per km, depending on the vehicle one chooses for traveling. A large family may need to rent a larger vehicle, while a small nuclear family with two adults and two kids may do good with a Tata Indica, for the journey does not take more than 5 hours, when one takes shorter route, but if one were to take a longer route for more than 165 miles to travel, it may take more than 8 hours. Depending on one’s comfort and budget, they can easily make a choice on the vehicle to be rented and stay comfortable during the journey.

Home stays in Shimla makes an ideal accommodation for tourists. The right kind of accommodation makes a lot of difference to the holiday experience. Home stays are here to enrich the touring experience by providing all comforts and facilities that a tourist would want.

Delhi to Shimla is one of the most preferred holiday destinations in India. The cool and pleasant climate makes Shimla even more welcoming, especially in the summer. A person, who has visited Shimla, will not be surprised to know that it is the summer capital of India. The nature in its bountiful with mesmerizing views, dense forests and picturesque landscapes attracts more tourists every year. It is located in the north western ranges of the Himalayas and hence we get to see a spectacular view of the great Himalayas. One can’t help but fall in love with the warmth and love that Shimla offers in its lap of nature.

Home stays are the houses approved by the department of tourism, in which the tourists can stay instead of hotels or resorts. Depending on the requirement, home stays have guest rooms to cater to tourists coming in as a single person or as families. The guests can enjoy home like comforts and may or may not interact with the host family. Home stays also offer fresh home cooked local cuisine. Some home stays provide pick-up and drop facilities from/to the nearest airport or railway station. On demand, local sight-seeing tours are also arranged.

Home stays in Shimla range from a simple farmer’s home with basic facilities in a quiet rural area to luxuriously furnished plush mansions with all amenities in the heart of the city. Accordingly, the prices too come in different ranges, which a tourist can choose according to one’s affordability. Definitely the price can be considered as an indicator of the quality of services offered. There are season and off-season prices. The off-season prices are much lower than during the peak season i.e. summer. Prices also depend on the type of view the room offers.

Nowadays, more tourists are giving importance to the place of stay and set aside a considerable portion of their travel budget for the right kind of accommodation. The best part of living in home stays is that, the tourists get a flavor of the local lifestyle, customs and tradition. Home stays create an opportunity for the tourists and the host families, to broaden their horizons through cross cultural exchanges. The host family provides guidance to its guests on various aspects, i.e. how best one can plan the local tour , the places that are worth visiting, things to shop for, leisure activities etc. Guests can have family dinners with their host and enjoy the performances by the local artists that are organized for their entertainment. All this and more leaves the tourists with pleasant memories that they can remember for a life-time. A great holiday destination coupled with a relaxed and comfy place to stay is every traveler’s dream. This dream comes true with home stays in Shimla.
