I just took a $1.50 ball from Walmart, wrote sight words all over it...

And let my boys toss it back and forth. When they caught it, they had to say the first sight word they saw (or the first one they recognized in the case of my four year old who is still learning them).

So, let's take it to the sidewalk.

In the summer we seem to spend inordinate amounts of time playing outside on the sidewalk with bubbles, bikes, and of course sidewalk chalk.

Of course, we aren't going to fill all of our time with "learning" activities, but my goal this summer is to read lots and lots and do at least one daily learning <img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/DeliaCreates/~4/OiUzGZSNcg0" height="1" width="1"/>

<link rel="alternate" type="text/html" href="http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/DeliaCreates/~3/OiUzGZSNcg0/play-it-smart-with-chalk.html" title="Play it Smart: With Chalk! Can you believe summer is almost here?

Sun, swimming, and....activity hungry, boredom-prone kids who will be home allllll day. :) I don't think I am ready for that peanut butter and jelly....

Nah, I am excited to have my kids home, but I know I'm going to have to be prepared with lots of fun things to do if we are to sail smooth waters without the TV having to be on all. the. time.

My husband scrunched his face at it and asked if I just made a baggy swim<img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/DeliaCreates/~4/1AXzjo8P2U4" height="1" width="1"/>

Vintage Brimmed Bonnet free pattern + tutorial

This post is part of the Vintage May series hosted by Craftiness Is Not Optional and Skirt As Top.

I am thrilled to apart of Vintage May this year. I usually lean toward modern aesthetics, but I believe that everything modern has a touch of the past.

I love the charm of vintage clothing because it's reminder of life when it was simpler. How'd you do? I didn't have an answer key and I didn't enter (obviously) but I tried guessing and was way off on some of them! It was really tricky but also really fun.

I have an awesome giveaway for you today with a super fun twist!

In preparing for our last decent meal in our current apartment before we move, I was fixing artichokes - of course - :) when I realized that I packed our pots and pans prematurely! Yikes. Since I threw my back out packing the other day, I thought a re-post of a guest post would be good timing. When deciding which one to share, this one stuck out to me.

I first shared this post for It's Always Autumn's Sharing the Love series back in January. Today, I've got a fun twist on a common kid craft.

Instead of using a hole punch to make paper lacing cards, we're using an eyelet tool to make vinyl lacing cards!

It doesn't take much.

Some vinyl or leather scraps, some scissors, some string/yarn/shoelace, etc. If you don't have vinyl scraps, you can pick some up for pretty inexpensive at Jo-Ann or even cut up an old leather purse!

Hola! :)

After I saw See Kate Sew's Project Run and Play All-Stars look from the first week, I just had to make a copy cat version of that cute shirt! I think she screen printed hers (which I really want to learn how to do) but I simply used good old fabric paint and freezer paper stenciling.

I didn't stop there though. I grabbed a half dozen blank summer tees at the store and dolled those up<img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/DeliaCreates/~4/bafNcDtVgpU" height="1" width="1"/>

Black-Eyed Susan Pom Flowers

Today, I'm bringing home a tutorial I shared over at Welcome to the Mouse House last month.
