Spring Fundraiser 2012, Day Seven
This has been a good fundraiser. In between the circus from Norway and the stories of jihadists, of bankrolled mosques — the usual — readers have been sending feedback. And I'm going to get a tincture for my vertigo, which is better news than an MRI any day. As for the small stack of bills sent in the Anarchist magazine — someone has a fine sense of humor!

The subject of Diversity is fraught. So for this Fundraiser, I’ve deliberately kept the lid on certain subjects. They can accumulate like barnacles or smart bombs on the wall of diversity, or rather on the battlements of modern, top-down “Diversity”. As is true of any other project, some stuff has to be routinely scraped off so you can see what’s underneath, yet other junk — whilst appearing to be identical — will blow up in your face. Frankly, the explosions aren’t interesting anymore.

It is the former which draws my curiosity. .The latter, full of traps like the origins or even the existence of “global” “warming” — oops, climate change…oops, methane in the atmosphere. Whatever. Any point in “discussing” those issues is long past. Those in Charge will tell you ahead of time: “It’s settled…” “Consensus Has Been Reached”… “Everyone Knows”… “Only an Idiot Would Think Such a Thing”….and so on, ad infinitum, ad nauseam.

Have you noticed that the more fervently views on such issues are clung to (bitterly), the less room there is for Reason or even the possibility of entertaining alternate ideas? Entertaining ideas? Enter that realm at your own risk.

Here’s a partial list of Don’t-Go-There-Unless-You-Want-a-Fight hot buttons. No particular order here, simply a reflection of what I’ve been reading and thinking about. These are only contentions; I have no solutions. The mysteries of life usually don't come with quick remedies:

Abortion. Or not. When does life begin to have value? No, it’s not “settled”. Look up the numbers of those who believe religiously in #1 vs. those who think the prize is behind Door #2. Just don’t put these folks in the same room.
Gender. What could be simpler: This is a girl; see that little cleft where her penis should be? This is a boy, see his penis hanging there? Gender-bending is occurring at younger and younger ages, much to the horrified sorrow of parents caught in a five year-old’s intense identity crisis. It may well be that the crisis is real enough, but it could turn out to be just one manifestation of a larger, more complex reality than the one we can see. Human beings are quite malleable, but they are also fragile. The times in which we live, where sexual identity is up for grabs — literally — are reflected in many issues, and one of them is seen in these canary children. In different times most of them would’ve been spared this assault from the zeitgeist, an assault which begins during the dark floaty existence in utero. Were there no assaults from the residues of psychotropic drugs left in the drinking water (just to name one possible influence), or the constant low-level cultural exposure to increasingly depraved pornography, these children could have lived within the boundaries of their respective anatomy without a blip. When times simplify again — and they surely will — outlier cases will recede again. That’s not much comfort now to these kids or their parents as they stumble through the nightmare.
Religion is a crutch vs. Spirituality is a part of human experience. The former has become the more intellectually acceptable attitude of late, though one wonders what insecurity keeps the more aggressively devout unbelievers at their megaphones, proselytizing like hard-shell Mississippi Baptists. You begin to ask if there is some fervent need on their part to save the unwashed from arrant foolishness. Perhaps a good dose of American history about the cycles of the Great Awakenings in the 18th and 19th centuries would at least help the ardent atheists this side of the Atlantic to gain some perspective.

My guess regarding the foundation of this popular orthodoxy among the media gatekeepers? It’s high school redux: they want to be with the cool kids and they don’t want to have to actually study anything. Aping your betters is so much easier, especially if your “educated” betters are being all edgy and you know it will irritate those boring duds in Flyover Country… As is the case for other media belief blankets, if you want to hear another side (and there is more than one) you’ll have to hunt for it on your own. What surprises me is the number of people who do — want to hear another point of view, I mean.
Sex among adults. Interestingly, as the results from the Boomer generation become apparent, and the laws of unintended consequences begin to take their toll, their children are turning away from their parents’ youthful decisions to let it all hang out. They see the results and politely decline. Or at least the ones who catch on early enough do so. They know the health risks for both sexes of too many sexual partners. They understand the complexities of bonding better than their naïve parents did. Except for the one percent — those befuddled “Occupy” useful tools — for the most part middle-class kids have turned back the clock. Of course many of them face rigors their parents did not: huge education debt, a poor job market, and increasing balkanization by class. Their lives will be tougher in many ways, but then so will they. At least the ones who aren’t forced to move back home, much the same way their great grandparents had to do to get by.
Sex with children as the new norm. Nope, that’s not worth our time. The downward deviancy of our culture was seen two generations ago and I’m sure it’s not hit bottom yet. But it will. In the meantime, let’s not contribute to the pollution.
Death. Like the beginnings of life, its endings are becoming more fungible. The Right to Die vs. the Responsibility to Die. Our old are becoming the Ice Floe Generation. And who gets to decide whose life has meaning or value? Recently, a couple sued for Wrongful Birth when their child was born with congenital anomalies the parents believed they should have been told about ahead of time. Among the nettles were questions like financial responsibility for this life no one wants. This question lies floundering side-by-side with the reality of aborted, breathing fetuses who are killed on the operating table without a qualm. Are we confused or what?
Trash. There are lots more thorns and contention here, but let’s end with garbage, with refuse, with detritus. Like global warming, there are folks on both sides of the Religion of Recycling, which is a smaller denomination of the colossal Environmental Cathedral — and that place makes Vatican City look like a high-rise tenement. Again, this subject has sectarian overtones in the higher reaches (or screeches) of the True Believers. For the dissidents there is often no choice: just because you can ‘prove’ your locality saves nothing by recycling doesn’t mean you can opt out. There are handy garbage technologies in your wheelie bin that will see you fined or put in jail if you don’t conform.

One of the dystopian uncharms of living in an urban landscape is unending trash. But city-slicker trash has become another source of revenue for cash-poor rural areas. While the downside is that the nearby urban poor often find it cheaper to skulk out here to the country and leave their bags of unidentifiable refuse because they can’t afford the trash stickers the city makes them buy, there’s an upside to this. Big cities up North will pay good money to poor rural areas if they’ll take the garbage out. Thus many county boards of supervisors do just that, and this venture keeps the real estate tax rate down for the bumpkins.

Don’t you wonder where this will lead as consumers are unable to continue consuming? Will trash reduce itself to an endangered species? In order to continue the justification of its existence, will the EPA have to step in with emergency rulings?

Diverse contentions. They’re endless and they get more polarized all the time. As resources get thin on the ground, look for the rigidities to worsen. I don’t know about you, but I’m sick of living in interesting times. I’m ready for a good long spell of boredom — kind of like those endless amber waves of grain we don’t have anymore because they hybridized all the wheat. Modern varieties are now too short to wave at anyone.

Queen Elizabeth II marked sixty years on the throne of Great Britain with a cruise on a barge at the center of a flotilla on the River Thames. Her Diamond Jubilee vessel was festooned with flowers and packed with notables. The weather for the occasion was rainy.

In other news, a passenger plane crashed on its landing approach to Lagos airport in Nigeria, doing enormous damage to a densely populated residential area near the airport. All 153 passengers on the plane were killed, plus an undetermined number of residents on the ground.

The Dangers of Independent Journalism

Norwegian media boffins recently surveyed Scandinavian public opinion and discovered that people prefer to get their Internet news from sources other than MSM sites.

Horrors! We can’t have that, now, can we? Why — people might start questioning the consensus, and then where would we be?

Our Norwegian correspondent The Observer has translated an article about this disturbing trend. The translator includes this note:

This article fits in nicely with the ‘Radio Free Norway’ post that you published yesterday.

Professor Frank Aarebrot, who is mentioned in this article, testified in ‘Circus Breivik’ the other day. In his testimony he adamantly claimed that the fact that Norwegian journalists are mostly left-wing have absolutely no bearing whatsoever on the way news is presented in Norway. And it certainly, according to the good professor, doesn’t mean that the political left in Norway receives preferential treatment.

However, in this article he does express concern that the lamestream media in Scandinavia seem to be losing their grip on the news monopoly.

Also notice that the journalists themselves get their information mainly from… other journalists! They don’t go outside the consensus, either. Big surprise there!

Journalists lose their grip on the net

Large sections of Scandinavian media users prefer websites that aren’t edited by journalists.

“Disturbing,” says Professor Frank Aarebrot.

Earlier in May, Professor Aarebrot presented the unique Scandinavian media survey conducted by Respons Analyse for the Nordic Media Festival (NMD).

According to the survey approximately a third of media users in Denmark, Sweden and Norway answered that they prefer “other websites” rather than those that are edited and published by the media when asked to clarify what type of websites best met their interests.

“This means that they sidestep the journalistic link. It is a development that I find rather troublesome, and it is a development which I believe ought to be debated. We find that more or less confused people seek out internet forums and blogs which are not subjected to journalistic quality control and source verification in order to corroborate their world views,” says Professor Frank Aarebrot of the University of Bergen.

A similar survey of Scandinavian journalists shows that journalists still prefer traditional media controlled websites.

“I have to admit that I would feel more at ease if the conclusion had been that journalists were the most avid users of other websites. After all it is their job to seek out and estimate the quality of information, and this invariably means that they have to look for information on ‘amateur’ websites,” Professor Aarebrot says.

Least left wing in Norway

The media survey has been conducted since 1999 by the Nordic Media Festival. This year, for the first time, it was conducted in all three Scandinavian countries. Approximately 4000 journalists and members of the public were asked nearly 50 questions about media habits, media quality, relevance and trust in the media.

Professor Aarebrot could reveal big disparities between the Scandinavian nations, not just among the general population but also among journalists.

The traditional “journalists’ parliament” this time also included all the Scandinavian countries. The survey shows that journalists in all three Scandinavian nations are left-wing, but to a greater extent in Sweden and Denmark than in Norway.

In Norway SV (socialistic Left), AP (Labour) and Venstre (the Liberals) are heavily favoured by journalists. While in Sweden there is a strong overrepresentation of journalists who vote for Vänsterpartiet (The Left Party) and Miljøpartiet (The Green Party). In Denmark Radikale Venstre (the Radical Left), a traditional centre party which is a member of the red-green coalition government is the big winner among journalists.

The Scandinavian Media Survey is conducted by Respons Analyse A/S. The survey was carried out between February 16 and March 2, 2012. Approximately 600 journalists and 800 members of the public in each of the three Scandinavian countries participated in the survey.

Marine Le Pen: Outlaw Anti-White Racism

Marine Le Pen, the leader of the National Front in France, has spoken out against the new Socialist government for its inability to address — or even admit the existence of — anti-white racism within the culturally enriched community in France.

Last Wednesday, in a program organized by LPC, Le Monde, AFP and France Info, Marine Le Pen attacked the justice minister and asked for the establishment of a law against white racism.

The president of the French National Front said it was “astonishing” that the post of justice minister was given to Christiane Taubira, who described herself as an “independentist” and a “communitarist” (she criticises any kind of ethnocentrism or sociocentrism, any kind of self-concentrated group which implies a self-validation and a tendency to self-centrism). When asked to explain her statements, Marine Le Pen explained that the law known as “Taubira” was communitarist in its view of slavery as a crime against humanity because it deals only with he transatlantic slave trade, and it does not mention the Arab Muslim slavery.

“People live in fear,” she added, citing people who wrote her messages such as “I was systematically attacked because of being white, because I’m French, and they insult us with graffiti on walls.”

On the other hand, the president of the FN, legislative candidate in Pas-de-Calais, said that Christine Taubira “is absolutely incapable of fighting against the anti-white racism” and claims that the PS [Socialist Party] is also incapable of fighting against anti-white racism, because they simply deny it exists. And the UMP (Union pour un Mouvement Populaire) is incapable of fighting against the anti-French racism, which is causing havoc in the suburbs.

Marine Le Pen exposed some cases of anti-white racism in France: “Dirty white, white-faced… that’s what millions of natives hear every day,” she said.

“Go to the suburbs, walk for a while, come out of the TV studios,” she said to the journalists who were interviewing her.

Le Pen expressed her disappointment that her opponents “did not take the measures needed to fight this new kind of racism,” and she insisted on the need for a law “against anti-white racism”.

Tampering With the Witness List

The article below describes the latest shenanigans pulled by the defense team in the Anders Behring Breivik trial. Many thanks to our Norwegian correspondent The Observer for the translation.

The translator includes this list of dramatis personae to help non-Norwegians cope with the unfamiliar names:

Arne Tumyhr is the leader of SIAN (Stop Islamisation of Norway)
Vidar Kleppe is the leader of Demokratene (Anti-Islamic political party)
Ronny Alte is the former leader of NDL
Lars Gule is of course a former wannabe terrorist arrested in Lebanon in 1977 with 500 grams of explosives in his luggage which he intended to use in a terrorist attack in Israel. I like to refer to Gule as ‘Dynamite Harry’, which is the name of a popular alcoholic character in a Norwegian comedy series from the 1970s. I think it’s a very fitting name for such a loser.

Witness Chaos

Defence attorney Geir Lippestad’s handling of the defence witnesses in the Breivik trial is scandalous. In order to have his client declared criminally sane, Lippestad wanted to prove to the court that there are many like minded individuals in Norway and that they could possibly even be morally responsible.

The complicity aspect has gradually waned as the trial has run its course and Breivik’s morbid personality has become more apparent.

But the question of like-mindedness wasn’t dropped, and it was reflected in the witness list, which roughly consisted of more or less politicised professionals, and representatives of the political opposition which covers a wide spectrum. It was with great reluctance that one was able to see one’s own name on this list next to individuals like Arne Tumyhr and Vidar Kleppe.

One definitely ran the risk of being caught between a rock and a hard place: between individuals such as Lars Gule, Mattias Gardell, Øyvind Strømmen, and Terje Emberland on the one side, and Tumhyr, Kleppe, and Ron Alte on the other.

It is as if one were to make members of SF [Socialist People’s Party — political party in 1970s Norway] responsible for the actions of RAF [Rote Armee Fraktion, Red Army Faction] terrorists if they had committed terrorist acts in Norway. Didn’t they share the same views?

When the media is unwilling to make any such distinction, the discomfort and risks become even greater. One was expected to go to court and incriminate oneself.

No obligation

Therefore it was a great surprise when Judge Ina Strømstad could reveal that privately summoned expert witnesses were under no legal obligation to testify.

Bruce Bawer and Ole Jørgen Anfindsen could therefore not legally be compelled to testify.

But what happened next was even more scandalous.

In the first lists that the Oslo District Court issued to witnesses subpoenaed by the defence team, they were listed as expert witnesses. Yesterday, day 29 of the trial, the defence team sent out a new revised list in which previous expert witnesses were now listed as ordinary witnesses.

Lippestad is changing the witness status in order to force people to witness, which is unheard of, and one is tempted to use the word “unethical” to describe his actions.

And especially after having listened to the testimony of Lars Gule on Friday. Gule was summoned to do a job: to compromise the moderate right, a job which he performed with great pleasure. If Lippestad seriously believes that people will take the stand for him after Gule’s performance in order to prove the existence of ‘like-mindedness’, he must be seriously deluded.

But there is reason to believe that some people will do so anyway.

The media bias and slander, the omission of information, form an echo chamber, if one may use the new terminology. The court also refers to witnesses as “right-wing extremists “. These accusations have become self-fulfilling, and this is serious in a case which deals with terror and mass murder.

A Diversity of Dialects

So here we are at Day 6 already in our quarterly fund-raising effort. Just one more post from Dymphna, and one from me for the wrap-up, and then these annoying interruptions will be over until the dog days of summer.

We’ve seen a number of Widows’ Mites this bleg: a lot of people giving a modest amount each. Perhaps it’s a sign that times are lean. In any case, it’s gratifying that people are willing to stretch their budgets to help out.

Our theme this quarter is Diversity, as you probably already noticed. My tack has been to take a look at various kinds of diversity that I actually enjoy celebrating — as opposed to the orthodox diversity I’m supposed to celebrate, but which never leaves me in a very celebratory mood.

Tonight I’ll celebrate a topic close to my heart: the diversity of dialects and languages. For almost fifty years one of my main hobbies has been etymology and linguistics. Since I’m a Eurocentric white guy, the Indo-European languages remain my chosen specialty. Starting from the English language and tracking back through the history of words leads one through most of the languages of Europe, plus some in the Caucasus, Central Asia, and the Indian subcontinent. There are a few oddball tongues in Europe, such as Basque, Estonian, Hungarian, and Finnish — the last dubbed “Klingon” by Vlad — but the others are all cousins to English, and their family relationship to my native tongue is discernable to varying degrees.

When you start tracking down the origins of any given word, in most cases you will eventually find yourself back in Proto-Indo-European, the reconstructed hypothetical mother tongue of the entire family. The funny thing is that a lot of the diversity disappears at that point. Of necessity, many words are cognate with one another and derive from a common ancestor, since the size of the vocabulary of our steppe-dwelling ancestors was only a tiny fraction of ours.

For example, a huge constellation of words common to most Indo-European languages is derived from a single root in the ancestral tongue beginning with sta-. The sense of the original had something to do with having a fixed position and being permanent. Derivative words include stand, stay, stead, stop, staunch, state, stable, steady, stalwart, stanchion, staple, stable, and many others. So much diversity from a single source!

Then there’s the interesting topic of sound changes in English, such as the Great Vowel Shift, which is shown in the diagram at the top of this post. It took place from the 15th through the 17th century, and helps explain some of the perplexing inconsistencies of modern English spelling.

Consonantal shifts also follow certain patterns, with b, p, pf, f, v, and w being interchangeable under certain sets of rules across different languages and dialects. S, t, and d behave in a similar fashion.

There is a strange correspondence between s and h in certain languages. To an English-speaker the relationship makes no sense, yet one sees it frequently. Consider Greek roots such as hex (six), hept (seven), hyper (above), and hypo (below), and compare them with their Latin cousins sex, sept, super, and sub. In the Indian subcontinent we see the same phenomenon at work in Hindi (the language) and Sind (the province), which derive from the same place name.

For a fascinating series of cognates, look at various words meaning “water” (or compound words built from the same root). The list includes wet, water, wasser, vand, eau, agua, aqua, hydro, vodka, and whiskey, just to name a handful. All related, and yet so different.

So many other linguistic examples have stuffed themselves into my head over the decades. Stuff! There’s another sta- word…

I could go on, but bedtime looms.

The trial of former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak has finally concluded. Mr. Mubarak and his former interior minister Habib Adli were convicted and sentenced to life in prison. In Mr. Mubarak’s case, of course, that may not be a very long sentence.

In other news, former Italian prime minister Silvio Berlusconi said that Italy should use its own mint to print euro banknotes to help ease the financial crisis. He also said that if France and Germany didn’t like his idea, they could quit the euro.

The Telltale Zebiba

As reported in last night’s news feed, a man named Michael D. McCright, a.k.a. Mikhial Jihad, pled guilty in a Seattle courtroom to vehicular assault charges in order to avoid more serious terrorism-related charges.

The following news report is from last summer not long after the “road rage” incident occurred. The reporters delicately avoid using the I-word or the M-word, but it’s hard not to notice the perp’s chosen alias, “Jihad”, or his pal’s name, “Mujahidh”. If that’s not enough, there’s always the telltale zebiba on his forehead.

Jihad in Seattle

Last week, Michael D. McCright, a.k.a. Mikhial Jihad, a previously convicted felon from the north Seattle suburb of Lynnwood, pled guilty to lesser charges in a case involving his attempt to force a government vehicle carrying two Marines off the road and cause a collision on an interstate highway in Seattle. The incident occurred on July 12, 2011 and resulted in McCright’s arrest in Seattle on Sept. 8. McCright is linked to another American jihadist who plotted a suicide attack against Marines.

According to the Seattle PI, the Marine staff sergeant in the car targeted by McCright told police that the suspect’s “eyes widened and he appeared to become angry” when he saw the uniformed men, and that shortly thereafter McCright deliberately swerved his car into the path of their vehicle, forcing it off the road, then stopped right in front of it.

Court documents filed following McCright’s arrest indicate he has links with at least one of two men accused of plotting a suicide attack on a south Seattle Marine processing and intake center. The deputy prosecutor in McCright’s case said that McCright’s cell phone was used three times to call Abu Khalid Abdul-Latif, a Des Moines, Wa., resident who is being held along with Walli Mujahidh, of Los Angeles; the calls from McCright’s phone were made prior to the July 22, 2011 arrests of Abdul-Latif and Mujahidh. The FBI decided to continue to investigate McCright’s possible links to domestic terrorism. Yesterday morning (Friday, June 1, 2012), the website of the Norwegian state broadcaster NRK published this feature article:

As you can see, this is a screen shot of an article featuring a screen shot of this blog, Gates of Vienna. The article captured by NRK was posted here the previous night (May 31, 2012). It described Fjordman’s decision not to testify by Skype at the trial of Anders Behring Breivik.

The opening text of the NRK article said:

Fjordman will not testify

Blogger Peder Nøstvold Jensen, alias Fjordman, does not have to testify in the trial of Behring Anders Breivik.

He is in hiding, and does not wish to testify, defense counsel Geir Lippestad said to NRK.

This was simply a rehash of what Hans Rustad had posted at Document.no, a translation of which we posted here. The defense counsel, of course, has spun Fjordman’s departure from Norway as being “in hiding”, rather than “in exile from his homeland, which has become a totalitarian state”.

But that’s Mr. Lippestad’s take, and reflects his own choice — he, after all, has chosen to serve the modern multicultural Norwegian state. He lives in Norway, and earns his daily crust from the oppressive system that drove Fjordman into “hiding”. We cannot expect him to be able to conceptualize the dire condition into which his country has fallen — and which Fjordman has described so aptly in his numerous well-researched essays — much less work to overcome it.

For some reason NRK decided to feature our blog as a source for their article. We were not the first to carry the news — Hans Rustad of Document.no broke the story — but perhaps the editors felt a need to emphasize Fjordman’s “foreign connections”. Or maybe they were engaging in more of the ridicule we’ve heard about — it’s hard to tell from machine translation.

It’s fine with me if they intended to mock and/or discredit us. Do your worst, fellows!

Because whenever you do something like this, the thousands of Norwegians who read your article that morning over their Wheaties later google “Gates of Vienna” and find our stuff. And I know they don’t just read the NRK-featured article, because our page-views skyrocket every time we get one of those norge-lanches. The new readers work their way through our archives — especially the Fjordman posts.

And the ones who are secret dissidents keep coming back. We can tell that because of the comments they leave. Ever since the Breivik crisis last August, Norwegians have been well-represented among our commenters. Virtually every night they leave brief summaries of pertinent Norwegian-language MSM articles in the news feed, and they often participate in the comments on posts about cultural enrichment in Norway.

So the meme propagates, thanks to NRK and Dagsavisen and VG Nett. The Norwegian media have given us a leg up, and we owe them a debt of gratitude for that, communists or not.

Most of my regular Norwegian contacts and translators are exiles, like Fjordman. Some of them have left the fjords to escape the stifling political repression that now rules in their home country. Others emigrated for non-political reasons, but once they were out from under the yoke of janteloven, they experienced a sense of liberation from the oppressive Nordic consensus and discovered the joy of thinking for themselves.

It’s not a good sign when the most vigorous and open discussion occurs among a country’s exiles. The fact that there is virtually no public dissent within Norway itself against the consensus — that only exiles engage in it freely — is a sign that Norway has become a full totalitarian state. No gulags, no firing squads — those aren’t necessary. Given the right conditions, the total suppression of officially unacceptable opinions may be achieved without any violence whatsoever.

Mind you, show trials and the local equivalent of Pravda are still required pieces of totalitarian furniture, as Circus Breivik has demonstrated all too clearly. You can’t run a totalitarian state without the customary rituals and litanies.

This blog did not set out to become a haven for Norwegian dissidents. It just ended up that way, over the course of five or six years, as disgruntled Swedes and Norwegians took an interest in the translations, the news stories, and the free-ranging discussion in our comments. We accumulated more tipsters, more translators, and more correspondents, and the whole thing snowballed. By the time Breivik did his deadly work, we had become a prime target for elite Scandinavians who longed for an excuse to suppress their exiled dissidents.

I’ll leave it to the experts to determine whether Breivik was weaponized in advance to target the “Islamophobes”. From our point of view, it doesn’t really matter — the effect would have been the same in any case. The media came down on us like a ton of bricks, and if I had had any career left, I would have lost it as a result.

But we’ll just keep on doing this as long as we can — until Obama or someone like him has his way and Europeanizes the United States.

We have become the equivalent of Radio Free Norway. It’s not something we wanted or intended, but the job fell to us anyway. We beam our signal into the oppressed fjords and snow-covered uplands so that ordinary Norwegians can realize that yes, there is another point of view besides the one they are spoon-fed by NRK and Dagsavisen.

That their homeland and heritage are worth preserving and protecting.

That not only is there nothing wrong with having such a goal, but that striving for it is in fact a noble and worthy enterprise.

That saving their culture is a moral necessity for all Norwegians.

The same is true for the rest of us in our own homelands, of course. We really need a Radio Free Everywhere.

And someday, when things go sideways here, we may need a Radio Free America. Or, in a post-federal time, Radio Free Virginia.

And maybe Radio Free Texas, broadcasting from an abandoned oil rig out in the Gulf…

It’s important to point out that Gates of Vienna is far from the only outlet beaming the truth into Norway. French Mosque Bankrolled by the King of Morocco

Thanks to the largesse of King Mohammed VI of Morocco, Muslims in France will now be able to complete a luxurious mosque and madrassa complex in Blois.

Here’s the story from Alerta Digital, as translated by our Spanish correspondent Hermes:

According to Article 220 of the Moroccan criminal code, Christians who proselytize in the Moroccan kingdom face penalties of up to six years behind bars, churches are closed, and foreign Christians are expelled if they dare to display their faith publicly. Moroccans have no right to convert to another religion, and according to the constitution, a Christian is not allowed to acquire Moroccan citizenship.

Meanwhile the building of mosques in France and their control by Morocco (and other Muslim countries) increases. This is about a territorial conquest of the zones under Muslim colonization which are multiplying mainly in France, but also in cities in other European countries.

After the building of the great mosques in Clermont-Ferrand and Saint-Etienne, which were financed by Morocco, now it is the turn of the town of Blois. A mosque and a madrassa in being built on a 1500 square meter plot of land. The king of Morocco donated €787,000 to help finish the building of the complex.

The building of the “Bilal cultural and religious centre”, begun two years ago, had been at a standstill. The first €600,000 collected by the regional Muslim community had been entirely spent. On the occasion of a private visit by the King of Morocco to one of his numerous properties in France, he was handed a report explaining the details about the project and the difficulties the project was going through. The king’s reaction was positive and he donated the money needed to complete the project

More than 30,000 Muslims live in that region: Moroccans, Algerians, Turks and Africans of different nationalities. The foundation stone was laid on December 11, 2009. The mosque will have an area of 1500 square meters, including a prayer hall of 450 square meters and a minaret 9.20 meters high.

Spring Fundraiser 2012, Day Five
DAY FIVE?? Oh my gosh. This one is flying fast! The Baron has already sent me my first few bunches of thank you notes from previous days and I’ll be continuing with them soon.

Not to bore you (at least not as much as it bores me), but my latest malady is a new one for me, and I’m hoping the distributed intelligence of our readers will have some experience with this, and especially will have a few tricks they’ve learned to cope with it. At my last checkup I mentioned to the doctor that I experienced brief dizziness at times when I got up too quickly from a lying position. She gave me a handout for an exercise to use. The paper said to do this every day until the dizziness went away.

Being a (mostly) compliant patient, I did the exercise — easy peasy.

You sit on the bed with your head turned to the right at 45 degrees (or so). Then you lie back with a pillow already in place to support your shoulders but placed in such a position that your slightly turned head is flat. If I remember this correctly (the page is in the other room), you then turn your head to the left, ninety degrees. When the room stops rotating, you turn your whole body onto your left side, wait for the vertigo to pass again, and then get up. The last step wasn’t on that page but here’s how it goes… [vomit into nearby bowl]. The unscripted part [in brackets] is what followed the final step — “get up” — or at least it did for me. This “Epley maneuver” is extremely unpleasant and I don’t plan to try it again.

Yes, of course I googled it. The best description I could get was benign paroxysmal positional vertigo. Anyone have suggestions beyond not moving my head that way?? And, yes, I will make another appointment to see if I have to go through the test routine.

Now, back to our regular programming — i.e., the fundraiser. Y’all are being generous and I’m being very grateful. Which you will hear personally… it just takes longer for me to do them than either of us might like.

The subject of Diversity/diversity is huge. It’s also hugely contentious since the political fault line in our culture goes right through the middle of this subject and the definitions vary wildly. Socialists, statists, progressives, etc., mostly line up with Diversity, though not all of them, especially when it comes to immigration. And on the side of diversity-from-the-bottom-up — the growing, changing dynamic version — are the conservatives, some libertarians (those who aren’t pro-immigration, at least) and the “moderates”. I haven’t ever met one of that last category, but I see the word used enough that I doubt they belong with the first group.

One of the most disingenuous notions floating around in the minds and hearts of today’s socialists is the idea that there could/should be an “international community”. In some ways this utopian hope, as reductionist and simplistic as is, speaks to their optimism, if not to their understanding of basic human nature. Despite the fact that the term is an oxymoron and could never work (except as a totalitarian scheme) it still speaks to the ancient hope we all nourish for tranquil times, for the days when the lion will lie down with the lamb.

Conservatives are realists. We know the lion would need a lobotomy to be able to do that with any regularity. But the hard fact that tranquil times arrive only after the human spirit departs is difficult for perfectionists to accept. For them, the “good enough” is deplorable, and we must continue to strive for perfection despite the dismal record of such attempts in the past.

Ever since 9/11 the real conservative view has hardened into a demand for border security. It is a demand that is all too often ignored, but that doesn’t mean we won’t stop making it — and paying the price for our vigilance. That price includes shunning by those who think they know better how to arrange the world.

Jerry Gordon’s new book, The West Speaks, is a collection of his interviews with some of “the watchers on the ramparts of the West”, brave individuals who have stepped forward since 9/11 to counter the particularly specious form of global “community” as laid out by Islam in its tenets on the Ummah. An Islamic international “community” would be the death knell for any form of authentic, vibrant community as Western civilization understands that term. One has only to look at all the polities in which Islamic Law dominates to know they are but the Ummah writ small: murderous, tyrannical, and without that spontaneous creativity which is the hallmark of any genuine community. For the most part Islamic countries, except those awash in petrol wealth, are backward, poverty-stricken hellholes. Even the wealthy ones aren’t places a person who values free speech would want to live in. Turkey could be considered on exception at the moment, although as it moves back and peels away from its Western veneer, it too will sink further into persecution of minority groups within its borders, more widespread poverty, creeping superstitions, and growing numbers of illiterate women. When women can’t read or write, the family founders.

It is not just Islam which is pushing for this fantasy global community. Fashioned from the leftovers of Marxism, political elites in the EU and camp-followers in American academia and media have their own half-baked pie-in-the-sky fantasies about immigration and outmoded economic policies as the solutions to our problems of endemic debt, economic “unfairness”, and mind-numbing poverty. For these intractable issues, the answer offered by the politically naïve is often a sickly sea, a universal solvent which would erase those ugly nation-state borders.

This free lunch comes at a terrible cost to civilization. One of the “observers” Jerry Gordon interviewed has lived long enough to see why a nation’s sovereignty is foundational to its continued existence.

Richard Rubenstein grew up in the then-German enclave in New York City. In the 1930s he saw the Nazi flags flying from the windows. And he discovered that he was indelibly Jewish. His family were secular Jews. As a boy Dr. Rubenstein thought this was a fungible thing, that he could become something else instead. He ended up in the Unitarian Church and was considering the ministry, having come to feel that religion was important. And then it happened: he ran into the wall:

One day, I got a letter from somebody I had met whose father was the executive secretary of the American Unitarian Association. He said, “You are going to make a fine minister, but you need to change your name from Rubenstein to one that is less Jewish, more Anglo-Saxon.” That sort of hit me like a lightning bolt. I went home and thought about it and said to myself, “I’m not going to do this, change my name.” First of all, I would have spent the rest of my life worrying about being found out. Secondly, all of a sudden, I began to worry about ancestry and I thought, “I can’t rat on my background.”

That must’ve been a painful realization back then, but he’s had many decades to absorb it since, so his story sounds matter-of-fact. I doubt that it was so at the time.

Gordon leads Dr. Rubenstein through the retelling of the steps that led him to Judaism — he says he’s a Conservative rabbi but a Reform Jew at heart. Eventually, Dr. Rubenstein got his Master’s Degree in Christian Theology from Harvard and went on to receive his Doctorate in the History of Religion from Harvard’s graduate School of Arts and Sciences. The thesis he wrote became Religious Imagination: Study in Psychoanalysis and Jewish Theology (Brown classics in Judaica), which was translated into French and won an Italian literature prize in 1977.

I chose Dr. Rubenstein’s interview because his political philosophy partially reflects my own. He derides the idea of an “international community”. So do I.

When Jerry Gordon asked him about his political philosophy, Rubenstein said:

In the world of politics, I’m a Hobbesian.

Thomas Hobbes believed that originally men lived in a state of nature in which there were no rules. Inevitably, the very strongest prevailed and the weakest served them or fell by the wayside. Finally, in order to protect themselves, men agreed to delegate whatever powers they had to one sovereign who would protect them and who would prevent them from behaving towards each other as if they were in a state of nature.

For example, if my neighbor and I have a dispute over where my property line ends and his begins, we don’t take out guns and settle it that way. We believe that, through the sovereign state, there are impartial institutions which will decide whether my claim or his is right. However, Hobbes also says something else. He says, “Sovereigns always live in a state of nature with regard to each other.” That is, between nations, there are no permanent, fixed rules. Nations may agree on rules, because it is within their interest to do so, but the same nation that makes a rule can break a rule. There is no such thing as an international community. There are only states with different interests which sometimes conflict…

That is not a traditionally Jewish view. At least not a liberal American Jewish view. But Rubenstein blames that blindness on the long history of the powerlessness of Jews in Europe. They had no living experience of sovereignty.

When Gordon asks him about his own “core Jewish values”, he counters with this:

I think the idea of Jewish values can be a trap because for 2,000 years Jews had no experience being the masters of their own destiny and had no experience with what that meant, what its responsibilities were. As Israeli Ambassador to the U.S., Michael Oren said in an Azure article, “They had no experience with sovereignty.” If you have an army, if you have enemies you know are out to destroy you, then having abstract values that are unrelated to the actual context of danger in which you live does yourself a disservice and one which is potentially suicidal.

Well, there you have one person’s opinion about the phenomenon Americans have learned to call “the suicidal Jew”. They vote for policies which endanger their safety because they’re stuck with those ageless, abstract values.

Rubenstein continues:

Now, I believe that Jews should practice justice, but what I mean by justice is to give each man and each group its proper due. This is fundamental.

That means that if you have an enemy who is out to kill you, you don’t necessarily have to kill him, but you have to do whatever is necessary to defang his power so that he cannot kill you.

Nevertheless, I do not believe, for example, in doing more than you have to against an enemy. I don’t believe in gratuitous killing or torture.

In that same article, Oren describes how David Ben Gurion, Israel’s first Prime Minister, sat by himself on Israel’s first Independence Day, wondering whether the people understood what they were getting themselves into, whether they understood what sovereignty meant. He was afraid that they didn’t. He knew that neither Martin Buber nor the German-Jewish professors at the Hebrew University understood sovereignty. Sovereignty means that you possess an army and, as the German sociologist Max Weber put it, “The sovereign state is that human community that successfully claims the monopoly of the legitimate use of physical force within a given territory.” Ben Gurion understood that insight when he forcibly disarmed the Irgun militia at the start of the new State of Israel in 1948. Ultimately, the conflict between the Israelis and the Palestinians is over the question of who possesses a sovereign monopoly of the use of force. Such a monopoly cannot be shared. [my emphasis — D]

To me, the most basic Jewish value is to survive with dignity as an individual and as part of a people. However, learning from tradition can be a trap…

Make no mistake about it. I have enormous respect for Jews who exercised restraint under conditions of powerlessness. They had no other choice then. The way I used to put it to my students in class was, “If a person comes along and says, ‘You dirty Jew boy,’ I’m going to go after him, but if five people come and surround me and say that, I’m going to have to learn to hold my temper.” That was the situation of Jews for almost 2000 years.

What he is describing here I have heard some people term “underdogma” — the almost knee-jerk response to root for the underdogs. Anyone who has stuck with the New York Mets through thick and thin has experienced this phenomenon, underdogma.

You can see it, too, in the cultures which penalize individuals for standing out too much, for striving. In Scandinavian countries it’s a kind of mindset, janteloven:

Generally used colloquially as a sociological term to negatively describe an attitude towards individuality and success common in Scandinavia, the term refers to a mentality which de-emphasizes individual effort and places all emphasis on the collective, while discouraging those who stand out as achievers. The Cultural Theory of Risk defines egalitarianism, prevalent in Scandinavia, as a mindset aversive towards rules but benign towards group unity.

No wonder we have such communication problems. That mindset is the antithesis of Americans’ most obvious characteristic, being “ornery”. The Gadsden flag, “Don’t Tread on Me” is an early symbol of this attitude. You see it displayed often at Tea Party rallies. Come to think of it, I wonder if the Tea Party has a Jewish division yet? I doubt it: there’s not an Irish division, either.

As Jerry Gordon leaves Dr. Rubenstein, he asks about the latter’s legacy. At the age of 86 (in 2010), he wasn’t willing to settle for a legacy, saying he was too busy to consider it. Like many of us, he worries about Islam’s supremacist ideology.

It is good to meet someone whose ideas on sovereignty are based on the vivid experience of its absence. It is those who have been threatened with losing it who most value what many socialists would throw away in the name of a failed ideology.

“Get Ready to Bury Your Children”

We’ve reported in the past about Imran Firasat, the apostate from Islam who now lives in exile in Spain. His petition to ban the Koran in Spain has aroused the ire of Islamic zealots both in Europe and in his home country, Indonesia.

The campaign against him has escalated to the point where the lives of his children are being threatened. Below is a report from MinutoDigital, as translated by our Spanish correspondent Hermes:

Islamist threats increase against Imran Firasat and his family

The tireless fight started by the apostate Imran Firasat against totalitarian Islamic ideology has begun to create problems for this citizen with political refugee status in Spain, and also for his children living in Indonesia.

Because of its undeniable informative value, we reproduce the letter from Imran, and the copies of the complaints he filed, and the threats he received from Muslim organizations. In spite of the gravity of the situation, the Spanish authorities did not pay much attention to him, a fact which he reports in the following document:

“I am Imran Firasat from Madrid. Since I arrived in Spain, for six years I’ve been receiving death threats and intimidation involving possible physical aggression from Muslims for opposing the violent ideology of Islam and exposing Mohammed’s filthy character. In recent years I filed various reports with the police and the courts. Up until now I did not pay much attention to the threats.

But now that I’m receiving death threats about my family directly from some Islamist groups in Indonesia, I decided to go to the police on May 13, 2012. At first instance, the police officer told me that I did not need to file the complaint because I did it on occasion before. I told him, “Look, this threat was addressed to my children and I’m very concerned because I received it from an Islamist group in Indonesia called “Majelis e Ulema Indonesia”.” Well, that day the police agent filed my complaint but without allowing me to mention the content of the threat I received:

Next day I received another threat from Indonesia, from an Islamist group called “Front Pembela Islam”, and in this threat they explicitly mentioned the killing of my kids living in Indonesia. I was very worried, and went to the police again on May 16 to tell them about this and file a complaint, but surprisingly enough, I was treated rather badly. They told me that they will not file the complaint because they did it the other day, but then I asked them about the correlation with the complaint filed the other day, because this threat comes from a different group, a very radical Islamist group. They told me that they will kill my family unless I stop fighting against Islam and apologize. But the officer rejected filing my complaint and told me that of course Islamists threaten me if I pick on them. But in the end he unwillingly agreed to file my complaint after I told him that it was his duty, otherwise he would be violating my rights, and that I would bring the issue to the interior ministry. But as you can see from the first and the second scanned complaints, there’s not much difference between them. The second is just the same as the first, only slightly modified.

When I asked the officer on what I should do in order to get police protection, he told me that I will not get any protection because it’s none of their business if I pick on Islamists. I asked him which would be the solution to secure my and my family’s integrity, and he answered that I should close my site and stop bothering Islamists. After having filed my complaint, the officer-in-chief told me strictly to stop coming and filing complaints because it’s my fault if I pick on Islamists.

In conclusion, I want to say that according to the police, my actions against Islamism is not a struggle against terrorism and radicalism, but according to them it’s just bothering Islamists. Besides this, they suggested me to close my site and stop talking against them.

Is this the way we’ll win against Islamism? They discouraged me instead of appreciating my struggle. Is this the way that we’ll keep on dreaming of a radicalism- and terrorism-free world, when our own authorities discourage us?

I only say that I don’t care who supports me and who leaves me alone, I’ll keep on fighting till the world gets free from Islamism. I cannot convince anybody to join me but neither can I be forced to stop unveiling the filth of Islamism and make the west wake up to the threat of a growing Islamism.”

Burka Trouble in Molenbeek

Molenbeek is a culturally-enriched neighborhood in Brussels. Last night there was a spot of trouble when a young culturally enriched female in Molenbeek declined to remove her face covering for the police, as required by Belgian law.

Notice that after she head-butted a policewoman, she (the Muslima) sustained a concussion and was treated at the hospital — presumably at the expense of the Belgian taxpayer.

Shootout at the NAV Office

An incident involving firearms occurred today at a welfare office in a culturally enriched neighborhood of Oslo. Our Norwegian correspondent The Observer has translated an article about the breaking news, and includes this note:

This incident just occurred in Tøyen, an immigrant neighbourhood in the downtown region of Oslo. According to a slightly more recent article in Dagbladet (which I haven’t had time to translate) a female eyewitness claims that the man is in his 60s and of foreign heritage. She says that he was arguing loudly with a guard and another man before he fired the shots.

The human torch outside the courthouse a couple of weeks ago had apparently experienced some ‘problems’ with NAV, the social services agency. My bet is that this guy had run into similar difficulties getting his hands on some ‘welfare money’ and that this caused him to take this step.

According to the SSB (statistics bureau), if current trends continue, by 2020 the expenses of the government will be higher than their revenues, which mean that welfare reforms will have to be introduced. And that means no more free handouts for Hassan and Muhammad…

Residents of Oslo: be prepared for more of this in the years to come.

Fired shots inside the NAV office in Tøyen

(VG Nett) A man has been arrested after he allegedly entered the NAV office in Tøyen, and fired shots into the ceiling.

Eyewitnesses claim that the gunman took a female hostage when he first entered the building and then made his way further into the premise. The Oslo police have confirmed that they arrested a man at 1.59 pm, but that they are still performing a search of the area.

“It was packed inside the NAV building in Tøyen, when we heard a loud noise. I don’t know what it was, whether it was shot or something else. It was complete chaos, everyone panicked. People were running for cover,” one eyewitness says.

Another eyewitness says that she has been informed that the shot was fired into the ceiling.

The armed police response unit has arrived, another person at the scene says.

“A man came out of the building and told us that there was a man with a gun inside the NAV building. The armed man apparently dragged a woman into the elevator on the first floor. Police have now cordoned off the entire Tøyen centre.”

“There are several armed police officers here at the moment. Several witnesses have informed me that several shots were fired into the ceiling inside the NAV building in Tøyen centre,” freelance photographer Joakim Fjeld tells VG Nett.

“As I was leaving the Co-op store two police officers with shields asked us to leave the area. There were four or five police officers at the entrance to the underground (subway) station. They were armed and were in the process of loading their weapons. They also had a dog with them. There was also an armoured vehicle parked outside with approximately ten police officers inside,” Lana Karasniqi (24) tells VG Nett.

We’ve had the usual diversity of donors so far in this quarter’s fundraiser. Australians are disproportionately represented among the people who have clinked the tip cup, which is also normal. Do you think this is evidence of discrimination? Should I file a complaint with a human rights agency? If so, in which country?

Hmm… Maybe at the UN…

What I really go for is a diversity of food. Indian food is my favorite, but I can partake of various other “ethnic” cuisines with gusto. Not necessarily pickled herring and snaps, but a lot of the others. Especially the spicy ones.

Ethnic food is one of the main arguments flung at anyone who has reservations about mass immigration. “Aha, so you like your takeaway kebab, but you don’t like the Asians, eh? You hypocrite!” By that logic, native Brits should confine themselves to bangers and mash, and Americans to fried chicken and potato salad, if they aren’t willing to embrace the full Multicultural monty in all its gorgeous rainbow mosaic of inclusive diversity.

Really, though — how many members of any ethnic group does a major city require in order to have a sufficiency of restaurants offering that group’s fare? We hardly have any Chinese immigrants in our area, but almost every small town has a Chinese takeout, and medium-sized towns often have a dozen apiece. We could keep our annual immigration quotas at a tiny fraction of the current level and still have plenty of ethnic food.

No, the restaurants, like the cultural festivals and inter-communal outreach programs, are a feel-good gloss over the deliberate mass importation into Western countries of a replacement population. All the rest of the foofaraw is just a propaganda smokescreen.

In any big American city major chain supermarkets carry a wide range of ethnic food, catering to the immigrant groups that form part of their customer base. The selection is usually sparser in rural areas, and here in the Outer Boondocks of Central Virginia that means that the only ethnic food section with more than a token representation is the Mexican one.

All the Food Lion stores in our area stock a fairly decent variety of Mexican groceries. The selection tends to be on the cheap end of the scale, due to the peasant background of agricultural workers who make up the local Mexican population. But it’s the real stuff, and quite a bit of it is imported, in contrast to the Chinese section, which contains a lot of mass-produced American imitations of Chinese food.

I often see Mexicans in the local supermarkets. Late in the afternoon there may be three or four young men, obviously part of a work crew just knocking off from a farm or highway project. At other times it may be an entire family, mom, dad, and kids.

They speak Spanish among themselves, and sometimes the only one in the group who can speak English becomes the designated spokesman to interact with the cashier. Around here there aren’t enough of them to warrant the hiring of Spanish-speaking staff to do customer service.

These are generally working people, rather than welfare clients — although I suspect a lot of them get WIC — and not at all scary or threatening. But they’re not Americans, and the spreading of them all over the country in such large numbers over the past half-century seems a major betrayal of trust by our political leaders.

I suppose that makes me a “racist”, a “xenophobe”, and a “bigot”. And not very tolerant of diversity, either.

I don’t know how all this will end up, so I may as well just wander back to the dinner table and celebrate the diversity of lamb rogan josh with mango pickle and garlic naan. And maybe a bottle of Stella to wash it down.

Olli Rehn, the economics czar of the European Commission, has warned that the euro may disintegrate if the current hemorrhaging in Greece and Spain can’t be stanched. There have been massive withdrawals of euros from Spanish banks, with more than €68 billion leaving the country last month. The interest rate on Spanish bonds has risen dramatically.

In other news, artists, entertainers, and other non-fundamentalists in Tunisia staged a sit-in today in front of the Constituent Assembly building in Tunis. The demonstrators were protesting Salafist attacks on secular people, including one on a female journalist, who was beaten by a Salafi for not covering her arms in public.

The BBC Uses the “M” Word — But CNN Doesn’t

These two videos uploaded by Vlad Tepes illustrate how two major media outlets on both sides of the Atlantic dance around the issue of Islamic violence and misogyny.

The first is a CNN report about the plight of women in Afghanistan. Throughout the entire report, Christiane Amanpour never once mentions Islam or shariah when discussing what happened to these female victims of Islam. It’s simply “domestic abuse”.

As Vlad says, this isn’t reporting, it’s apologetics.

The second video breaks new ground for the BBC: it actually refers to the rapist of the Sikh girl in Luton as a Muslim. The fact that the victim was a Sikh seems to have given the Beeb permission to forego “Asian” and call a spade a spade.

A Witness Stands Down

The defense team in the trial of Anders Behring Breivik has built a carefully constructed a political show trial with the full co-operation of the Norwegian system of “justice”. Yet over the past few days the architecture of this judicial farce has been crumbling at an astonishing rate.

Numerous “expert” witnesses have either refused to testify or have been excused by the court. The most recent to extend his polite regrets is Fjordman.

Also: Mullah Krekar and Hanne Nabintu Herland no longer have to give testimony.

In related news, Fjordman sends this note about his recent correspondence with a leftist newspaper — is there any other kind? — in Norway:

I was contacted by email on May 29 by the journalist Tore Letvik from the Norwegian daily Dagsavisen. He noted that Gates of Vienna was doing a donation drive, and asked whether this indicated that this ideology has so few followers that it cannot even fund a blog.

I replied that his own newspaper receives something like forty million kroner every single year in government press subsidies just to stay afloat. Perhaps he and his colleagues shouldn’t talk too loudly about “sustainable ideologies”.

I reiterated my call for an end to all press subsidies, as well as the withdrawal of the license for NRK.

Needless to say, to date the newspaper has not published my response.

Concerning Dagsavisen: Gates of Vienna readers may remember that this newspaper has very close ties to the ruling Labor Party. Tore Letvik also wrote the notorious article in December 2011 claiming that I promote “the same” policies as the SS and Heinrich Himmler, the prime architect of the Holocaust.

He obviously hates my guts, and GoV as well.

Spaghetti Bolognese: A Casus Belli?

Italy: Muslim revolt over “Spaghetti Bolognese”

ROME (Novopress) — Violence, Islam, contagious diseases… a concentrate of all problems of the multicultural society has emerged in a few days in the refugee camps of Emilia-Romagna (in the region of Bologna) after a horrendous earthquake ravaged northeastern Italy. The preferential treatment of immigrant victims added to the sharpening of the situation.

In spite of all their goodwill, the Italian volunteers were simply rolled over by events. Last Thursday the Vodafone company wanted to distribute free telephone cards in the San Felice Sul Panaro camp in the province of Modena. There a scuffle took place among North African immigrants, during which one of them pulled out his knife and stabbed one of his fellow countrymen.

On Saturday a big revolt broke out in the same camp as an Italian voluntary worker served a Muslim girl a dish of spaghetti Bolognese. Those in charge of maintaining the civil order in the camp explained that everything had simply been a mistake: “The worker gave her the wrong meal by mistake.” But the Muslim girl began to cry, summoned all of her family members, and accused the managers of the camp of having purposefully insulted Islam. The help of the plain-clothes security personnel was needed to restore peace.

“We sincerely did not expect to meet such problems when we applied for the job in the camp of Emilia”, some voluntary workers from Trentino explained.

In two occasions, the disinfecting of a tent inhabited by North Africans was necessary because they suffered from an infection of skin mange. After having been disinfected twice by a special team from Venice, the tents finally had to be destroyed and thrown away by the San Felice team, because neither the Venetians nor the Tridentines were ready to accept more responsibilities regarding the issue. The scabrous Maghrebians were taken to a hospital.

According to a local newspaper: “The behavior of the north Africans puts the nerves of the other victims under great pressure,” but mainly of the native victims, who have lost everything. “We had been evacuated from our homes to this place here next to the camp,” a young couple complains. “We are from San Felice, but we receive no meals, because those are reserved for the inhabitants of the camp. One should also deal with the emergency situation we are in.”

However, they were very happy to be served spaghetti Bolognese.

Earthquake in Italy: preferential treatment of immigrant victims in the emergency camps

BOLOGNA (Novopress) — After the big earthquake ravaged northeast Italy, many Italians complained that the emergency shelters were full of North Africans and Eastern Europeans, and that “Italians were discriminated against here.”

The Italian newspaper Il Giornale describes the emergency situation:

“The lists of access to the camps were monopolized by immigrants from Nigeria, Morocco, Egypt and Eastern Europe. Many women were veiled. Preferential access to tents was given to women and children, virtually all of them immigrants.”

The situation in Sant’Agostino in Finale Emilia is roughly the same, where the tent camps are almost completely occupied by immigrants.

Italians must look to other means to provide themselves with food and to try to repair their homes. Some of them have no other choice but to sleep in cars or in the open air.

A situation of “positive” discrimination in favor of immigrants which underscores the imperative necessity of intervention of the “Salamander” patriotic civil protection organization.

“Diversity” Top Down or diversity Bottom up?

Spring Fundraiser 2012, Day Three
Despite the wear and tear, I love our Fundraiser weeks. It’s a bit like a holiday, or Old Home Week. For one thing, donors often send an accompanying email message in addition to their note at the bottom of the Pay Pal form. Also, it forces me to do a post every other day, even on the days I’m sure I “can’t”. I’ll admit that if the every-other-day schedule went on for an extended time, you’d be reading some wacky essays here.

This fundraising business has its own learning curve, at least the way we do it. The Baron, as usual, does the heavy lifting while I write half the posts and all the acknowledgements. It works!

Sticking to our chosen subject can be a problem some days, as can remembering the point of all this: to raise money for the coming quarter so that we can keep Gates of Vienna open. So far so good: even though it does seem magical at times.

For this particular bleg I’m hoping to hear from some of our lurking Anonymouses who stepped out of the silence to make their point that the demographics fabricated by those Lefties in Norway regarding our audience were just that: convenient fictions. The personal prosperity many of you described gave me great hope for this particular bleg.

To those of you who wrote to put the lie to the ugly prevarication coming out of Norway, I ask that you step up again, this time with financial help. If your anonymity is a concern, send cash. Several of our donors have done just that for years and their money has never gone astray — they let us know when they mail it and we let them know as soon as it arrives in our post office box. And before the unfriendlies fire off an obvious salvo, let me save them some time: yes indeed, we do indeed pay taxes on our donations.

Norway — just to pick any old totalitarian democracy — is a good example of faux “diversity”. Diversity by government decree would be funny if it weren’t so crippling to the people who are forced to live within that framework.

Fjordman catches flack from the government-supported jornolists when he does fund-raising to take care of his own expenses. Those hacks are oblivious to the deep irony that their jobs are paid for out of the taxes gathered from Fjordman and others like him. These government workers are so deeply ignorant of life outside their sheep pen they can’t comprehend the reality for others, for people with real jobs, for people who are unemployed or underemployed or living with a disability. They “celebrate” diversity yet they move in the limited circles of their government-run environment which ensures they’ll never have to actually experience anything close to what they preach. Even if someone left the cage door open, do you think they’d leave? It’s a scary world out there with the grown-ups.

Norway isn’t diverse but its elites are dedicated to talking the talk. The pretentious airy-fairy grand consensus may end up with a few broken eggs, but hey: it’s a tasty omelet for those invited to the table. As for those cast into oblivion, shunned to death, well, too bad for them.

I believe in the principles of diversity, but not the ideology of this simplistic top-down pee cee “Diversity”. Genuine diversity is a bottom-up phenomenon; people have the freedom to sort themselves as they see fit. Here in America, the genuine article has been badly damaged by the ideologues and the opportunists who see the possibilities in grabbing a piece of the governmental Diversity Pie.

These snake oil salesmen — union leaders (not the rank-and-file), corrupt diploma mills, mass media hacks, the legislative lobbyists’ guild, ethically-challenged legislators and Pentagon pimps — it’s a veritable…umm, circus. No, make that a continuous kabuki performance. A stylized ritual where everyone in the audience knows what is going to happen next and is too out-numbered to mount an effective opposition.

There is hope to be had at the margins. The Tea Party is one example. Its activists will probably defeat the union leaders and the Democrat machine in Wisconsin in their attempt to remove a competent governor who has put his state on a more solid financial footing than it’s seen in a long time. Michelle Malkin has some of the details.

There have been gallons of mud slung in this ugly fight, and the left-leaning Washington Post predictably sings the Democrats’ tune in this one. Under the ‘reasonable’ tone is an ugly accusation, one that is far removed from reality. Given that the Democrat machine owns every major city in the U.S., and given that most of those cities are in ruins, WaPo stretches the truth mighty thin here. “Gaming the system”?? The Democrats wrote the book on that one.

Meanwhile, closer to home, the Milwaukee paper has endorsed the governor and condemned the recall attempt.

The Tea Party functions well because it is decentralized. Agreed, it’s not perfect. But is sure is more diverse than either of the political parties. If we could ever get the Republican National Committee to do anything that smart — i.e. decentralize — we’d never have to live with another bloated, poverty-making government machine again. But hey — they’d lose the power perks that devolve to the also-rans…once you breathe in those “inside the Beltway fumes” there goes…diversity.

By the way, the Tea Party only exists because it was a genuine response to a spontaneous cri de coeur. People watched that video and stood up to respond as one: “Basta!” was the general sentiment. Our first local Tax Day Pushback was well-attended, even in the rain.

As de Tocqueville noted, America is a generous place. People are “naturally” generous here, whether it’s volunteering at the library, running the Emergency Squad, or putting time in at the Volunteer Fire Department. One of the best of the private groups is Habitat for Humanity. Their rules are firm and fair and the results of all that work make profound differences for individual families.

Gates of Vienna survives because of that very human impulse to support the good. Our European donors are an equal part of our diverse resources. Our volunteer essayists and translators and news-finders are part of this project that has grown far beyond the boundaries of a blog run by two people. All of our people know that their work counts, that their money is well-spent.

The Left wants to shove their statist version of Diversity down our throats. The more powerful ones are hell-bent on becoming the next Greece and failing their citizens. So far so good. The resistance continues to be robust and diversified. It is the privilege of all who make Gates of Vienna a viable, robust endeavor to know full well what they are doing for the future.

And let’s not forget the source — the Russians have a row to hoe with respect to Bosnia and Serbia. “There’s no izvestia in Pravda, and no pravda in Izvestia,” as they used to say in Soviet times (“There’s no news in The Truth and no truth in The News”).

But I’ll leave this stand as-is for the moment. Y’all can send me any significant further updates if they come in.

According to the following article, a Muslim husband and wife in Bosnia kept an underage German girl as a slave for years under bestial conditions.

The story was originally published in the English-language version of Pravda, but has since been pulled. One wonders why Pravda pulled it…

Muslim slavery in the center of Europe

Several days ago, the world was shocked with the news from Europe. A family couple from Bosnia and Herzegovina had been keeping a young German woman as their slave for eight years. The victim of family violence is now 19 years of age.

The Bosnian couple – Milenko Marinkovic, 52, and his wife Slavojka Marinkovic, 45, – were torturing and starving an underage girl, whose name was Karla. The girl would be raped by other men on a regular basis.

It was the couple’s neighbors, who called the police. One of them said that he saw Marinkovic harnessing the girl to a cart and whipping her, as if she was a horse. The couple made the German woman come into unnatural relations with dogs – just out of sadism, Austrian portal unzensuriert.at said. The victim was kept indoors. The woman was not allowed to communicate with other people at all. She had to eat the fodder that her masters would give to their pigs.

It still remains unknown why the authorities did not take any measures against the Bosnian couple to save the German child eight years ago. It was said that the Bosnians hid the girl in the basement, and the police did not find her. This time, the authorities decided to act only after a neighbor filed a written statement against his neighbors and presented a photo of the exhausted and bruised young woman.

They were hiding the girl in a forest. When she was found, she weighed only 40 kilos. She currently stays in an orphanage, although her physical and psychological condition leaves much to be desired. The rehabilitation process will take a lot of time, medics said.

Karla was taken to Bosnia eight years ago. Her mother, a German citizen, had been married to Milenko Marinkovic in spite of the fact that the man already had a wife from Bosnia -Slavojka. Karla’s mother had a work permit in Germany and Austria. She left her daughter to the Bosnian man, and kept silence about the violence in the family.

Now it has emerged that Ms. Lagarde earns almost €400k per annum and pays no taxes whatsoever. Her status as an employee for a trans-national institution exempts her from taxation.

Raceless Rape Exposes BBC Deceit

As reported in last night’s news feed, a large crowd of Sikhs gathered around the police station in Luton yesterday to protest the way the police handled a rape of a teenage Sikh girl by a Muslim man.

British Freedom chairman Paul Weston has some thoughts on this latest incident of culturally-enriched sexual predation in Britain. The essay below was published earlier today in a slightly different form at the British Freedom website.

It takes quite a bit of self inflicted torment and anguish within the traitor class at the BBC to make me feel sorry for them, but their take on a recent rape case in Luton has almost managed to achieve this. Almost… but not quite.

The BBC can never honestly admit that what they routinely refer to as “Asian rape” is actually Muslim rape, leading more realistic observers to wonder how they would report a rape case when the perpetrator was an Asian Muslim and the victim an Asian Sikh/Hindu/Chinese/Thai etc etc.

Well, now we know the answer.

Luton police in talks over Sikh protest is the BBC headline, with the following excerpts taken from their article:

Police have said they are talking to community leaders following a protest by hundreds of Sikhs at a Luton police station……about 250 people gathered at Buxton Road on Tuesday over an allegation that a young Sikh woman had been sexually assaulted.

“Before the protest, senior officers had attended the Gurdwara in Dallow Road to meet Luton Sikh community leaders to explain the investigation into the report of an assault on Monday…after considerable negotiation with representatives from the group, who were invited into the police station to talk, the protesters left at 11pm.

A 19-year-old man charged with common assault in connection with the allegation is due in court later.

I can just picture the turmoil and consternation within the spinning brains of typical BBC propagandists here. One imagines that hours of high level conferences were held at BBC HQ; hours of inward looking incomprehension as reality overtook their desperately manufactured fantasy of Asian rape rather than Muslim rape; hours of the ever-deepening awareness that their entire liberal meme of multicultural lies and evasion was shortly to be exposed as just that.

“Honestly, how can these damned Muslims be so stupid?” drawled the Armani clad, classless, public school and Oxbridge educated Tarquin Toolightly, Chief Commissar of the BBC’s Diversity and Community Cohesion Unit. “How can they expect us to keep covering for them if they start raping Asians? Why can’t they just stick to raping white girls? This puts us in a very embarrassing situation. We can’t possibly headline the story with Asian man rapes Asian woman! We would end up looking like idiots!”

“This does put us in rather a quandary,” squeaked his assistant, Ms Glenda Ratchet, BSc (Hons) in Media Studies/White Female Oppression/Diversity and Treason. “It would be just too awful if we actually told the truth. After all, Islam is a religion of peace, virtue and female empowerment. How on earth are we going to spin our way out of this awful situation? I quite agree with you Tarquin, why couldn’t they just stick to raping white under-age girls from traumatic backgrounds? Their lack of community presence made our evasion and lies so much easier to manage!”

“And it gets worse,” said Tarquin. “It appears that the Sikh protest has been joined by the EDL. How can we portray Tommy Robinson and Kevin Carroll as ignorant racists if they are in amiable cahoots with the bloody Sikhs! This whole thing is turning into a nightmare! All our hard work and lies are unravelling! Bloody Muslims, why can’t they just stick to raping white girls!”

But Tarquin was not on 200 grand a year for his race-war and class-war ideology alone. He also possessed a brain of such cunning deviousness that he was able to come up with an absolutely stunning wheeze: “I know how to handle this, let’s just not mention Muslim OR Asian, then no-one will know who the rapist was! Although I suppose we will have to mention that this selfish victim was a Sikh, unless we can just spin her as a member of a nameless, raceless community!”

“Brilliant idea Tarquin!” rejoined the grim faced Ms Ratchet, “the white, racist Lumpenproletariat will never know the rapist was a Muslim if we don’t tell them he was! The gullible public still think we tell them the truth! They won’t even know he was an Asian! Let’s just call him a, you know, like, a man, YEAH! A man! A 19 year-old man of no race or religion! That’ll do it! Those racist whites are too stupid to work their way around that!”

And so the BBC sinks to ever greater depths of inhumanity and immorality, not to mention a total lack of journalistic competence or professionalism. No matter how they twist, turn, lie and evade, the game is up I’m afraid. They’ve been exposed for what they really are: Anti-white, anti-Sikh and pro-Muslim, no matter that Islam stands against pretty much every single liberal ethos the BBC tells us it stands for.

I have mentioned before that the BBC was/is complicit in the ongoing rape of British girls by Muslim men and now we see they are also prepared to allow Sikh girls be violated by nameless, religionless, raceless rapists in order to perpetuate the lie of “Luton in Harmony.” Hardly the BBC’s finest hour — again.
