I spent my Halloween night playing Scrabble, nibbling on cheese and crackers, and being thankful I was not home alone on Halloween this year.

Hachi: A Dog's Tale

This is a beautiful film...well told, good cinematography. Be prepared to cry. In short, it's about a man who befriends an abandonned puppy/dog. <it's a="" real="" tear-jerker.="">The dog forms such a strong bond with his owner (based on a true story) that the dog continues to wait for his owner at the train station where he caught the train to and from work--for ten plus years after the man's death. The dog dies peacefully in his sleep outdoors in the lightly falling snow, at his waiting place. The dog meets up with his owner upon death, in the afterlife.

A lot goes into creating and maintaining a successful blog. While some people view blogs as unimportant and silly, others earn extra cash by staying on top of "it."

"It" is actually quite detailed. One piece of information leads to another and yet another. There is so much more to "it" than simply typing out a few words, sitting back, and receiving countless readers like magic. Heavy Internet users know gaining high traffic levels does not happen overnight. Link exchanges may be helpful although they do not generate anywhere near the following that is needed for advertisers and common readers to take notice. Free press releases is another avenue commonly used yet this method of traffic generation poses the same problem. Exposure is limited.

One of the best ways of gaining traffic, and eyeballs that actually read past word number one, is to continue to write engaging text. A lengthy history of quality information gains momentum and attention. Bloggers that stick with it despite initial low traffic levels prevail over dusty, dated blogs that poke their heads out from the distant past during searches for antiquated information.

Maintain your blog, stay informed, and write well.

Career Decision.

Fifteen years after graduating high school, twelve years after going to college and getting my degree in legal office administration, I've finally decided on a career. Actually, this has been an interest for a long time. Maybe I should have done this in place of getting my AS degree, who know? At any rate, everything happens for a reason, or so I choose to believe. Thus, I am not going to kick myself (too hard) for not doing this the first time around. The A.S. degree was for a fall-back career anyway. However, I did work in law offices and did gain a valuable insight from working at those offices.

None the less, I was never really happy working as a peon in law offices. So, I am going to get my license as a real estate broker/mortgage broker. Sure, the economy is not exactly great right now, but it will pick up. Everything has a cycle. Long story short, you may see more posts related to the real estate field. However, I will keep the theme of this blog general, including many topics. This may not be what advertisers are looking for, but really, I would think advertisers would prefer blogs with general themes. They have a better chance of getting their name out in front of a wider demographic.

Ok, that's it for this post. Have a great day!
I no longer think I will be going for my real estate license. I can still acquire the knowledge; however, my interest is in buying and selling and for that I do not need a license. This is just one of several things I am interested in. Having said this, my interests are a world away from the 9-5 world.

Why Does Peroxide Bubble?

Anyone who has ever used hydrogen peroxide for cleaning cuts and scrapes cannot miss the fact bubbles form upon contact. A white color even appears. Why is this?

When bubbles form on the skin, the peroxide (H2O2---two oxygen atoms and two hydrogen atoms in one peroxide molecule) is reacting to an enzyme present in blood and other cells. This enzyme, Catalase, has the ability to break down peroxide into it's two main components: water and gas. Bacteria usually does not contain catalase; therefore peroxide can easily kill the bacteria. The process can become rather complex when studied in detail. However, for non-scientists this description serves as a basic explanation.

Some authoritative sources recommend not using peroxide on cuts. Peroxide has been noted to kill cells and destroy blood platelets. When peroxide is broken down into gas and water, the oxygen can interfere with the healthy cells closest to the damage cells, hindering the healing process. Having said this, the human body is equipped with natural free-radical inhibitors which prevents the peroxide from doing too much damage (when used as directed). Again, this idea can get very detailed very quickly. The everyday person will do well simply to know arguments have been made against the use of peroxide. Further information is available on the internet for those who are so inclined to investigate this further.

* Peroxide is stored in brown bottles because sunlight can reduce it's potency.
**Peroxide is also a bleach and can be used on white clothing; removes blood.
***Use as a topical disinfectant on wood cutting boards and counter tops.

The entire country, through television news and online publications, has witnessed the wedding celebration of Chelsea Clinton. The only daughter of former US President Bill Clinton and present-day Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, captivated guests and fans with their lavish ceremony and reception.

Chelsea, escorted by her father.

Rhinebeck, New York, where the wedding was held, turned into a media frenzy. The day prior to the wedding, the father of the bride was spotted walking down a public Rhinebck street. Fans of the former president were able to shake hands and acquire autographs; the admired democratic leader was very gracious.

Marc Mezvinsky, Hillary Clinton, Chelsea Clinton,

Bill Clinton (Former US President and father of the bride).

Chelsea Clinton, now age 30, has married her long-time boyfriend, Marc Mezvinsky, age 32. Sources say the newlyweds have known each other for seventeen years. Compared with other famous couples who have married following short courtships, this union has staying power.

Rumors have surfaced in reference to the current president, Barack Obama, and his lack of attendance. Chelsea's wedding celebration was attended by celebrities and politicians from all over the world. Even with this, the current sitting president was not in attendance. Some say this is because it is the bride's day, not an event Obama is attending. All attention is on the newlyweds, as it should be, and not the current US president. Reporters have stated that if Obama had attended, there would be a need for more security. Attention would be directed toward him and away from Chelsea.

The A-List attendees enjoyed the anxiously awaited weekend event without upstaging the bride. Everyone knows it is the bride's day, right? Now that the "big day" is drawing to a close, I am happy to report I have not heard of any mis-haps associated with the wedding.

As far as the million(s) dollar price-tag is concerned, I certainly do not cast a poor light upon it. For starters, if the wedding had been anything less than the best, eyebrows would be raised. People would question why a former president and current Secretary of State had not provided a more upscale wedding for their only daughter. Not everyone can afford a million dollar wedding, but if you can afford it, why not extend a few extra bucks?

In the end, this union is not about the designer who crafted her wedding dress or how the napkins were folded. It's not even about former president Clinton and Hillary Clinton. It is about the journey Chelsea and Marc are going to share together. The road starts today as husband and wife. May they have the best of happiness.

When most people start their blogs they question if it will be more successful as a niche blog or a general blog. Several listings result when a search on this topic is performed on Google. According to the information I have read, it really depends on who you ask. Everyone has their own preferences. However, I did stumble across this interesting info:

Advantages of a General Blog, covering many topics:

Receives link juice from a variety of outside websites

Maintaining the same blog overtime builds trust; the root domain is established.

Keyword rank becomes easy. Example: Digg ranks high due to keywords and established site.

Unlimited Expansion

Cons:

Can take time to establish as it may need to be formed as a content portal. One single blogger will be very busy once the blog grows to a considerable size, keeping up with various channels.

A lot of free advertising, and possibly paid advertising, may be needed to draw in a large amount of traffic being that the topics are so varied.

Advantage of Niche Blogs:

Readers interested in a certain topic will not have to deal with content unrelated to their interest.

Advertisers lean toward blogs that have a certain readership

Cons:

Expense for various web hosts if not formed on a free site.

A lot of time must be donated to each blog site.

Be aware there is a possibility of taking on too much.

In the end, it is a personal decision as to which type of blog is better.

As time progresses, blogging is proving to be more than just a hobby. For example, airing on the news today, a political rally was formed through blogging efforts alone. Blogs have the attention of political leaders, entertainers, corporate professionals, students, and every day working class people.

A lot can be learned by reading blogs. Beyond posts themselves, blogs also feature advertisements with active links to websites being promoted. This makes it convenient to shop at a popular store or read additional information on a service without taking the time to perform a search engine query.

This particular website is easy to understand. There are tabs that take you where you need to go, and once there, anyone with average reading capability can understand the ideas expressed. If you have further questions about how blog advertising works, the site maintains a blog with several posts describing various facets of blog advertising.

Advertisers like to promote on blogs that have quality content, indexed pages, and traffic. Page rank requirements vary per project. Blogging is an easy way to earn some extra money doing something you like. Spreading the word about businesses and their websites on this type of forum is not hard work. In the end, you are helping yourself out while helping a business advertise their service. It's a win-win situation.

Click here to be taken to the yahoo search engine page where the Blog Advertising Store is listed.

Crepe Myrtle Trees.

Crepe Myrtle trees produce blooms in a variety of colors during the spring and summer. Common colors include white, pink, purple, and red. These trees do lose their leaves in winter, they are not an evergreen. When thy leaf out in spring, tree owner's anxiously await the colorful display.
My crepe myrtle trees are very young. They are still babies. I have three planted in the front yard. As of this writing one has started to bloom and the other two have buds. In California, we had a winter-like spring this year, which apparently delayed the blooming of nearly all of the crepe myrtles in town.

Here are my baby trees:

My crepe myrtle trees are right next to the sidewalk. I live in the county rather than the city; no permits were needed to plant close to the sidewalk.
Where are you?" I looked around and saw with my own two eyes that it appeared as if her mother and brother abandoned her with her little dog infront of the Taco Bell that was right next door.

I couldn't let that poor girl stand there, scared out of her mind. I got out of the car, went up to her, and by that time her mother and brother came walking around from behind the building. I don't know exactly why they walked off without her; I certainly wouldn't walk off anywhere leaving a six year old girl by herself. She was so scared she was in tears. I told the child her mother was coming, I had to tell her twice before she heard me. The mother thanked me and simply said that they weren't going to Taco Bell.

If it was me, I would not have left the child alone like that, especially in today's world. It only takes a second for a kidnapping or accident to occur. It's not worth the risk. Wait for the child or break down and buy her a measly taco...tomorrow will still come.

Skylar, now age 7, has been nothing short of a blessing in my life.

I brought Skylar home too young, at 5 1/2 weeks of age.

I was lucky enough to have seen him the day he was born and visited him at the breeder's house until I could bring hime home. The first time I saw him, the day he was born, his entire body fit in one hand. His eyes were closed and his ears were flopped over. He was brown in color. He was the only male in the litter; he had two sisters.

When I brought him home from the breeder's I held him in my lap. He was not scared at all. In fact, he was looking out the window! When he came home he had his first meal on a margarine lid. He slept in a wire crate indoors for awhile and then adopted the area infront of the front door as his sleeping area.

As a puppy he barked a lot, at anything that moved. He also had separation anxiety which still lingers a little. When I went to work one day, I came home to find a hole chewed in the kitchen wall. The wall was patched and I made sure to take him on plenty of walks...that was when I could still outrun him.

A year ago when I took Skylar to have his teeth cleaned the vet took some blood samples. At that time I learned his thyroid levels were very low. He now takes a pill for that every night. His readings are normal now.

Summertime! 'Tis the season for hot weather and road trips. Unfortunately, water pump problems, malfunctioning timing belts, and other car problems persist.

No one likes to be stuck on the road. It is a big inconvenience, especially when traveling. Some locations, such as Phoenix, Arizona are known for their dry, hot summers. Air-conditioning is a must for those who are not used to temperatures above the one-hundred degree mark; these temperatures are normal for the Arizona area. Driving without air-conditioning is no joking matter, it can make a person physically ill. Beyond being thankful for the invention of air-conditioning, maintaining a vehicle has become part of life for all drivers.

Engines can look very complex to the untrained eye. Accessing certain engine parts can be difficult. The picture to the left shows a clear view of a timing belt. Timing belts are like all other parts, they need to be replaced on occasion. People who do not know anything about timing belts can get a fast education on the subject by visiting http://repairpal.com/timing-belt-replacement. This can be very helpful to women driver's. It is an unfortunate truth that some mechanics try and charge more and embellish the facts in an attempt to get more money. Many mechanics assume women know nothing about auto mechanics and are therefore totally dependent on their word. Learning a little bit about the problem before discussing the issue with a mechanic can avoid potential problems for many women such as charges for repairs that were not needed.

Leaking water hoses and water pumps are also common problems. It is a good idea to carry extra water in the back of the vehicle year-round. Adding extra water to the engine can make the difference between making it home or being stuck somewhere. Clicking on http://repairpal.com/water-pump-replacement will explain how a water pump works; this page is one of many straight from an auto repair encyclopedia.

The post you are reading now is about Extra Super Lash by Rimmel. I have included photographs here of my eyelashes dressed in Extra Super Lash. I did this so my reader's may see for themselves how differently Extra Super Lash looks when compared with Falsies by Maybeline (on me).

In this picture I applied the mascara to both top and bottom lashes; two coats on the top. My eye shape is similar to model Claudia Schiffer's which means when my eye is open my upper lashes pretty much disappear. I had been using extra super lash by Rimmel which I was happy with. My lashes were actually visible, with added length. However, I'm human, and fell victim to flashy advertising and bought Falsies.

With the excitement of a kid in a candy store, I opened the pretty package and applied the new formulation which I was hoping would give me thick, uplifted, beautiful lashes, just like false eyelashes. It works for the model in the advertisement, so it should work for me, right?

WRONG !!!! After I finish writing this post I am returning the item for a refund. I took pictures of the results so you can see why I am returning it. I think I fell victim to falsie advertising! The woman modeling the mascara had to have been wearing real false eyelashes in the photograph. or else she is simply blessed with gorgeous lashes naturally.

*My right eye, wearing Falsies by Maybeline. I don't see false eyelashes, especially with my eyes open!! I only applied it to the top lashes. When my eyes are closed the lashes are more visible but still do not look like lush false eyelashes. Sorry Maybeline. Rimmel works better for me.

** To visit the website which offers Falsies, click on Maybelline.

Social Networking Sites

Social networking sites can be content-rich resources. At one time I had a MySpace account and visited it regularly. I played the games and befriended total strangers. I spent a good amount of time picking out music for my playlists and choosing backgrounds. It was something to do when I had nothing else to do. I have since cancelled my MySpace account.

I joined Facebook, cancelled, and re-joined about three times. Again, I liked to play the games. There were maybe a handful of "friends" that were actual friends out of the large list of contact I had accumulated. It was fun for awhile until I cancelled for the last time. I may rejoin at some future date, I don't know. I found that everybody knew everybody's business with this site, it's just the way it is set up. It's amazing the things you learn about people through Facebook--serious, personal issues to what was for lunch. In the end, I cancelled because the few people I really wanted to stay in contact with I had email addresses for; beyond this, it was taking time away from work that needed to be done.

I am a member of Twitter though I ignored it for quite some time. Because of this blog I joined Delicios which in turn automatically posts my new bookmarks to Twitter. What can I say, I am looking for ways to increase my readership here.

Social networking sites can be a lot of fun. In my opinion, they are easy to get addicted to. It's like electronic gossip in some respects. I would like to point out that I think it is a shame public comments can end in physical tragedies. Everyone would be wise to remember there are people out there who are not always upfront. There are people out there that can put on a real good show, and in reality, they are nothing like the mask they wear. Anyone can say anything over a computer; it may or may not be true. This is why I like my friendships that I have started online to build over time. Eventually clues will be noticable if intentions are not sincere.

In summary, have fun and be cautious at the same time on social networking sites.

Tatami By Birkenstock

My local Birkenstock store started their two week sale today. Not intending to buy anything, I walked in and looked around. And then it happened...I tried on a pair of sandals...and another pair...and another.

My feet pronate a lot which means my ankles roll inward when I stand. I have what is called flexible flat feet. I have an arch but it disappears upon standing. My podiatrist recommended that I wear Birkenstock shoes several years ago. Since that time I have only worn shoes made by Birkenstock. True, these shoes are not cheap. However, they last. When something is worth it, I don't mind paying more. Additionally, for me, I don't have the need to purchase separate orthotics. Well, I take that back. On occasion I may buy orthotic inserts for athletic shoes. Other than that, no pointy-toed high heels for me.

Here's the best part of this little story: the sale price! The shoes that I bought today normally sell for $130.00 in the Birkenstock store. They are called Franja and are made under the Tatami label. With tax, I paid $54.00 !! That is nearly an eighty dollar savings!! Now that is what I call a sale!

Kudo's to you Birkenstock for great footwear.

**I do not claim to be a foot model **

:-)

Article Writing For Pay.

I have personal experience writing articles for online companies that really do pay. It really is real, it can be done.

Article writing will not be profitable for people that want to write something now and then. Earnings per article is generally below six dollars; usually it falls somewhere around $2.00 per article. Some companies are very strict, demanding writers to follow certain criteria. For example, specific words will be requested to be included in an article anywhere from two to ten times. It all depends on what the client is looking for. There are also times where keywords can only be used in the first and last paragraphs. This can become quite challenging when writing about something like water where there are only so many synonyms available.

Further, editors really do check writer's work periodically. Depending on the site, constructive criticism will be given. With time, editors will review their own notes to see if progress has been made in direct relation to their suggestions. Serious writer's do their best to accommodate requests no matter how frustrating it may be. It is a learning process; successful independent contractors do not throw in the towel at the first sign of correction or even article rejection. Perseverence is key.

It is possible to earn decent money from article writing; however, it will not make you rich. For starters, your name is not attached to anything you write. You are considered a ghost writer. All rights are signed away unless otherwise specified by the site's terms and conditions.

Just like a regular job, time needs to be devoted to article writing. Often times a writer drafts compositions on items or companies he or she has never heard of. Research is expected to be done in order to write a good article. Sources are not asked for, though Copyscape is used. For those who do not know what Copyscape is, it is a program that checks for content duplication. It is a protection mechanism to help ensure the article is original and has not simply been copied and pasted. There are times when an author may write something, one single sentence usually, that happens to use the same expression or word choice. Copyscape will make note of this, inform the writer, and request the wording to be changed prior to submitting the article. In fact, the "submit" buttons are disabled until the corrections have been made. Article writing is taken seriously; there is no room for plagerism.

Everyone who does research will be looking on other websites for information. This is normal when nothing is known about the topic. However, writer's are not paid extra for their time spent doing research. Writer's are only paid for the completed article or articles. One site, www.londonbrokers.com, frequently lists open assignments that are categorized as UAW. This means that one original article needs to be written followed by two original re-writes. Their system is automatically set-up to sparse the first article so that rewrites may be done easier. "Sparse" means each paragraph is separated with a blank box below. The blank box is where the new content is written.

Two other sites that I personally work with and know that pay are www.thecontentauthority.com and www.textbroker.com . Payments are sent to paypal accounts on schedule unless they notify writer's of a mishap ahead of time. As of this writing, www.londonbrokers.com and www.thecontentauthority.com pay once per week; www.textbroker.com pays twice monthly. Each site has a minimum earnings amount that needs to be accrued prior to payment being issued.

As a side note, londonbrokers.com appears as if they pay more than other sites. At first glance this is the impression given. Assignments will show they pay anywhere from $2.00-$7.00 a piece. This sounds pretty good. When simple math is done and a $6.00 article is required to be written a total of 3 times, that equates to $2.00 per article. I'm not pointing this out to be discouraging; I am pointing it out to be truthful from the start.

In closing, if you are looking to support a family from home, article writing alone cannot acheive this. Writer's are considered independent contractors with all such writing wesites; no taxes are taken out. Each writer is responsible to pay his or her own federal and state taxes. For people looking for some extra spending cash, and can write and speak English fluently article writing can be a legitimate way of earning money online.

Live Telephone Surveys

Do I take them? Occasionally. Do I like to do them? Not really. Why do I do them? I use to have a job doing the same thing...and I hated it!! I got yelled at so much by strangers it made me loathe the idea of even going to work. I didn't write the surveys, I sure as heck wouldn't keep people on the phone for up to an hour answering repetitive questions. The day I quit I literally took my headset and removed the foam coverings over the ear pieces. I then tore them and stomped on them until my heart was content. I have no regrets.

At least now, thanks to the Internet, people are able to participate if they want, pause when they want and resume, or quit when they want without the need of talking to someone.

07/14/2010 Unyielding Drivers

Power Failures and Unyielding Drivers...

The first type of power failure to come to mind is the obvious--the electricity goes out. The second type is when the power-hungry have meltdowns. This blog is concentrating on the first type mentioned.

In the time it took me to unlock the house door a traffic accident happened. Emergency personnel responded quicker than I have ever seen; they must have been in the area. Two cars collided on account of the traffic lights being out...at rush hour. Two separate drivers who each insisted they had the right of way excellerated at the same time. Each took priority over the other, of course, with a total disregard of traffic rules. As a result, both cars are totalled.

Would it really hurt to yield to another driver now and then, even when you know you have the right of way? Just a thought.
