Talking with marc hoffman of RemObjects about the latest Delphi Prism release. A large portion of this episode focuses on Aspect Oriented Programming with the Cirrus framework and Delphi Prism. We also talk about a number of the other features in this latest May 2009 release.

Yeah, this one is a little long. The last bit is marc and I shooting the breeze for a bit about whatever.

This was also recorded out of order. It was recorded before episodes 28 and 29. I lost my original recordings and had to recreate it from marc’s recordings. We had some lost audio in the call too, but it ended up coming out pretty good.

BTW, CyberEars (the podcast host) upgraded their download servers so we should have faster download speeds. Let me know if you can tell a difference. Also I replaced episode 8 that I accidently deleted a while ago. Sorry about that!

This episode was recorded with Nick Hodges on Thursday, the 17th of April, 2009. Nick discusses his new role as an R&D manager and some of the other changes going on at CodeGear. Also discuss the upcoming release of Delphi, the DelphiLive! conference, and some of the suggestions on Delphi.UserVoice.com.

Nick Hodges is now a Delphi R&D Manager.

Delphi 2009 Update 3 is literally days away now.

Be sure to leave your feedback on the Delphi UserVoice page. There are four forums, so if you don’t see the feature request you are looking for, it may be in a different forum. Nick said Embarcadero is looking at all their user feedback, including User Voice. We marked a bunch of the suggestions with updated status.

Wanna see what is next in Delphi? Sign up for the Delphi Weaver and Delphi Prism betas. Nick suggested that pretty much everyone who signs up will get accepted but are some pretty tough questions that you need to answer.

<img class="alignright size-full wp-image-626" title="DelphiLive!
You may be surprised how much more you can get for a little more money with Embarcadero’s All Access, which we also have a podcast about it too. They are working on the Delphi instant-on still though. It may be a platform for a component iTunes, which would be really cool.

The Future of the Delphi compiler is still comming.

The episodes with Nick are always great ones, so I hope you enjoy it! If there are other links I missed please add those in the comments.

This episode is the start of a series of podcasts. I thought it would be more interesting if there was something more to this podcast then just interviewing people and discussing Delphi news. So what we have done is started a series of Delphi projects that a small group of volunteers will work on and then discuss how the project goes via the podcast. Our first projects is a Twitter client written in Delphi.

Leave suggestions for names for the client in the comments. Allen Bauer is already using the Delphitter name. I am kind of leaning towards something that combines both Delphi and Twitter, but it needs to not contain the whole word “Twitter,” but you can be creative too. I’ll set up a poll with all the suggestions so everyone can vote. I have a name in mind already, but I am not attached to it.

If you are excited about this then please spread the word!

<itunes:summary>In this episode we talk with Marco Cantugrave; and Cary Jensen about Delphi Developer Days 2009.nbsp; This is a two day event in two different cities.nbsp; The first is in the Washington DC area on March 30th and 31st and the second is in the Chicago area on April 2nd and 3rd.nbsp; The early bird pricing is available until February 20th.

Marco Cantugrave; is on Twitter now, as well as Facebook and LinkedIn.nbsp; His latest books include the Delphi 2009 Handbook and Essential Pascal.nbsp; You can find more about him on his website, or keep track of him on his blog.nbsp; Marco lives in Piacenza, Italy, but frequently travels to consult and train on Delphi development.

Cary Jensen is now on Twitter as well and plans to frequently post about Delphi. He is President of Jensen Data Systems, Inc., a Texas-based company that specializes in Internet and database development training and consulting, and winner of the Delphi Informant Magazine 2003 and 2002 Readers Choice Awards for Best Training.

Marco and Cary are great.nbsp; We ended up talking about all sorts of stuff in addition to the Delphi Developer Days.nbsp; In fact, we will need to do another podcast to talk some more.</itunes:summary>

In this episode I talk to RemObjects’ marc hoffman (Chief Architect) and Mike Orriss (General Project Manager) about their product offerings. You can follow them in the RemObjects Blog, or marc and Mike are both on Twitter. You may recognize marc as a fairly regular guest on the podcast, and Mike is actually the keeper of the RemObjects Wiki’s, so you may know him from there.

I was surprised to learn that most all of their products are for both .NET and Delphi native, with some also being available for the Mac (Objective-C). So if you are looking for some cross platform solutions then they appear to be the guys to talk to. In fact, their Hydra is specifically for combining Delphi native and .NET into a single solution.

At the end of the podcast marc wanted to come up with some sort of deal for our listeners. I think the end result is pretty cool, and gives any listener a chance to win their choice of products. All you need to do is download one of their trials and check it out. Then write about your experiences in your blog or on your website and leave a comment here linking to it by the end of February.

Then one entry will be selected at random to receive a free copy of whatever they reviewed. This is a great opportunity to try out their products and possibly get one for free. You can choose from Data Abstract, the RemObjects SDK, AnyDAC and Hydra.

Your experiences should be honest. A positive or negative review will not influence your chances of winning.

On a side note I just love all of RemObjects product icons and art work. I should have asked them who does their art work. Check out their product wallpapers. My favorite is the Delphi Prism one that looks like the Pink Floyd album cover.

Update: RemObjects just published their Software ROadmap 2009 v1.
