Looking, feeling and receiving the product just makes you feel that great warm, determined people are behind the design, production and development of this new amazing Denim Collection. I always remember how their Shirts, Jackets would like, i was in fact pretty curious to have a look at their first pair of jeans, the moment i got the mail from Sonia ;-)

Well to my expectations, it was just beautiful, just as expected, a lot of minute, fine details has been put in a pair of jeans.

A lot of hand on craftsmenship. Those crisp, unique embroidery details, the use of bright trims and the stitch quality are few things you would notice in a pair of Robert Graham Jeans.

Apart from these it has a unique selvedge detail of contrast stitch, which just enhances the look of the jeans as you fold it up.

Also a great feature i found was the, antique finish, old font "Robert Graham" branding coated with transparent acrylic on the front button.

The Rivets/studs engraved "Robert Graham" also gives you a sense of an old masterfully made jeans. All in all every detail in the Jeans pair compliments to combine and form a " artsitic and beautiful jeans"

With the rise of Artificial Intelligence and Technology,, today, it appears that all these worked towards giving us a lot of help and advantage.... For instance, photo shop, corel draw are highly used across the globe by many designers to help enhance the idea and finally give a visual attraction and bring it to Life.

We here at Denimoholic are exploring and working hard towards bringing that standard of expert-ism to the Industry. So that many explorations can be done viz, washes and looks without actually spoiling or ruining any trial samples. This way we thought the industry would save a lot of fabric from trial and error.

Here's a little treat on how to save a cost.

- create your designs

- scan the fabric

- now using photo shop/ fill in tool u can actually fill up the design with the fabric

- finally u know what the actual composition is to be used inorder to get the actual product as desired.

It has to always start from a scratch. From creating the Design on a piece of paper keeping in mind all the important features and details. In this case the Fabric, Basic silhouette, the wash, the buttons, stitch lines/ details, pocket linings, and add ons such as the worn out effect and the torns would come naturally once the layout is done.

If you think of using any extra element such as leather detail,, think smart and practical as to how, where and why to apply the same. With the same view always remember the aesthetic part of the product. Because without a look or appeal it'll go and come back straight from the market without a response. We dont want that, do we???

Now from what we called a Basic Denim we thought of giving it a little bit of appeal wihtout having to put in too much of styling detail and hard work. Hence, the answer came quite quick with the idea of giving it a worn out look..... It'll have a real grunge Look from its worn out effect but in a subtle manner based on its basic design apart from the wash.

So here we go, a basic denim with a grunge worn out effect.

Label KOSLAK by Thinles & Nirajana debut at Lakme Fashion week. Koslak showcased a well-conceptualised and well-executed contemporary menswear collection. Made using ‘snambu’, a traditional handloom woolen fabric from Ladakh, the collection combined elements from Ladakhi costume ‘goncha’ with contemporary fits.

Gen Next being their debut collection, they would slowly would start stocking their exclusive pieces at only few selected stores in Mumbai and focus more in the North, New Delhi being the most important of all. A lot of great reviews and accolades for their cliche defying,bold, contemporary menswear line.

They have combined traditional with the individualistic fashion from the urban life. The effort is to bring fresh ideas and new elements into the Indian fashion Industry. This collection had an interesting synthesis of hand-woven ‘snambu’ woven locally in Ladakh with various weights of jean fabric or denim giving the collection an inimitable blend. The collection comprised of specially worked upon outerwear pieces. They have imparted a very rare feel and look to the pieces which make the coarse snambu fabric a lot softer, wearable and highly desirable keeping in mind the practical use of garments.

The outerwear pieces of the collection are goncha-inspired with ornamental trims and accessorisation. The silhouettes are slightly loose and confortable but edgy. The pattern used for the jackets are specially developed from the original goncha pattern. The highlight being the intelligent incorporation of a contemporary fit through technical pattern making.

Materials used for the Jackets are raw denim, ecru, twill, heavy linen and leather with fleece lining combined intelligently with snambu(wool). They are worked upon with indigenous wash treatments and also smeared in ink and paint to impart a unique look and feel. The shirts have original placement prints and exclusive details inspired by the Himalayas. The Tshirts have avant-garde silhouettes and made in light weight viscose jersey and bear original screen printed graphics with interesting placements. An exclusive part of the collection is special hand crafted denims which are artistically blended with
material and current trends offering a natural feel,loose and comfortable fit.

Canadian designer duo Theresa James and Roger Prince of Retarded Velvet's debut collection, Feathers and Dots could be defined as global eclecticism in a nutshell. The collection was unisex with its vivid amalgamation of South Indian lungis, Mexican serape and ponchos in candy colored batik and ikat prints. We loved the attention to details in the form of fringe that gave the ensembles a very Native American vibe. The collection as a whole looked promising with stand-out pieces that transcend from runway to wardrobe with ease.

The Retarded Velvet duo have taken a circuitous route to fashion design. Theresa James (aka Holiday) and Roger Prince (aka Capital) met during a marathon DJ set by house music legend Danny Tenaglia, but little did they know that their paths would be so entwined in life and art.

Growing up on a farm in rural Saskatchewan, Capital dreamed of being a member of Loverboy. Zig-zagging across Canada from West to East (and back again) as a contractor, he has restored heritage homes, is self-taught in interior design and has been involved in a number of construction projects in the Lower Mainland and Gulf Islands. Fearlessly, Capital plays as hard on his mountain bike as he does on his snowboard, and is known for whipping up a mean sucre a la creme.

Life is amazing indeed ‐ I say it again ;‐D

Well its hard to find a cool pair of Jeans " i mean something like what i wanted" it’s almost impossible to get in India, believe me i tried every single brand, store, prices .. .......u name it DIESEL, ENERGIE, JACK & JONES etc but i could never find a pair to replace my vintage 501.

22nd July. 2011 16:25 pm i get a call from the courier guys that i have a parcel from 73046 Matino (LE) ITALIA , i was super excited. As i had been waiting for this parcel to arrive. Waited long enough but, guess what it was all worth it. I hold her hand (i mean my other half ;‐) and rushed to check the parcel, there it was right in front of me!

Well most would think why was i so excited, its like a normal parcel, a denim you ordered and you received huh !

DRDENIM 2011 Autumn/winter collection reminds me of my childhood winter days in the himalayas. I remember when we use to go for those tuition classes after school, it use to be our favourite time of the whole day, we use to get dressed up in our best of clothes, look cool to impress the girls ;-)

Men’s line has this dreadfully naive boyish feel to it. The “Nerd” who is extra modish and swift . Very fresh, minimal and yet smart. Crisp solid shirts and subtle color checks defines the submissive chill look. Denims are à la mode and snappy with vintage inspired classic washes coupled with DRDENIM signature raw denim and some fresh solid chinos.

Apart from the classic chic DRDENIM girl, women’s collection has few awesomely styled fresh dresses and cardigans. Apart from it I also liked the cool camouflage dress. Awesomely developed imaginative acid wash denims and the delightfully draped dresses steals the show for me.

To all you denim lovers and denim crazy animals , get busy and get ready to rip off your dull, lifeless denim into a cool vintage piece !

Start with your fresh clean pair of denim , preferably raw , deep indigo

Wear it vigorously for 7 days stretch ;-D ) This is how we do it here, denim is to be felt, grow with and experience with .... NOW HERE YOU CAN CLEARLY COMPARE THE FRESH DENIM AND , AFTER 7 DAYS....This is how a denim takes an "ORIGINAL Vintage" look and get customized to your life. Cheers !

I HAD A DENIM CANVAS, AND THIS IS MY ARTWORK ;-D .. .. .. . .

Well TIME for some shower, washing the denim for the first time is really important.

.Do not use detergent or solvent. Get hold of a fresh bucket of water and dip it in, let it soak for 15-20 minutes.
Rinse it thoroughly in the water, this would take out your shrinkage from the fabric, so it does not shrink later.
While doing this you might rub the front and back pocket part of the denim with a laundry brush mildly,so the faded part becomes merged and natural.
OK now wash off any indigo by dipping it again in the water and hang dry in natural sunlight. DO NOT WRING IT ! Just take it out and hang dry, let it fall naturally.

REAL BAD, look at all those faded lines and bruises.Hallelujah , it stood to the expectations. I had the exact same picture in mind . YOU LIKE IT ?

The first fade,the first hole is always good. Hey i forgot to tell you guys, there are few more technical tricks to achieve that real authentic million$$ VINTAGE LOOK. After you wear the denim for like say 12-14 days, just notice the places where its faded and check for tears or holes if any, if you get one you get lucky! well use a sandpaper and rub a little more on those parts to make it more aged and used. Sandpaper would be perfect because it just takes of the outer indigo away and uniformly damages the fabric.

'Making of a classic jeans".... WHICH CANNOT BE REPRODUCED nor recreated by whatsoever means, that is why a pair of denim is so special and emotional for me.

A denim can almost mesmerise you and takes your one and only SOUL in itself and surprises you . ....

Final step is more advanced and technical, now the denim has to go through a wash called "RIVER WASH" which is a process in which the denim is washed with fresh water along with plain pumice stone. You keep the denim in the machine unless it takes the look of a distress and highly used denim. After this process and other finishing steps, THIS IS HOW IT WOULD LOOK....your authentic VINTAGE DENIM worth $$$.....your original, which can never be reproduced ...

Levi's 501 in Ladakh: Kick ass

Hi everyone, its been a while i did not put any new posts. I was on a short break in the Himalayas: Ladakh ( my homeland).

What a retreat, splendid snowcapped mountains, dusty storm and the fresh air. Chilled climate, bright sunny days and the crystal clear water!

Well somehow i got some time to have some fun in my new pair of Levi's 501. It was the ultimate test of mettle for Levi's 501.

As i rolled,glided,rubbed,slided myself in the rugged Himalayan terrain, overwhelming dust and sharp stone filled paths. I managed to hurt myself too, but who cares i had a kick-ass time ;-D

And yes my Levi's 501 indeed proved itself and once again renewed my faith in Levi's genuineness and timeless quality.

Torn bruised and dirt ;-) , i got my result for the day !

At my desk, working on the coming winter season looks and trends......................

Well while working with denim for so long, i could have a sense of my work and the design/concept development process. An improvement is evident as far as authenticity and realisation is concerned.

"A lot of brands have influenced me for a long time and continue to do so, i would have to mention the 3 most evident brand which always keeps me up on my toes".

Cheap Monday with their ever so cool grunge look ( i love the way Örjan Andersson has made the process of denim making a GRAFITTI, i personally feel, they have made it so cool and easy, its like spraying a can and a denim is made ;-D.

G STAR the brand i have almost grown up with during my school/college. I took an instant liking with G STAR. They specializes in making RAW denim - an unwashed, untreated denim in which all jeans start out as after being constructed. G-Star is influenced by European fashion trends as well as by military clothing.The best aprt about G STAR denims are its multi utility role which makes it really popular among young student crowd, the Inspirations of their designs come from vintage military apparel bought from around the world. Some examples include special mobile-phonepockets and zippered arm pockets on jackets.

PHAAAAAAAAAAAAT GAYEEEEEEE, dats wat she said when she ( my friend Vinita ;-D )

mentioned about her denim and showed it to me. she has no clue how it happened. lol . Well i was up 3-4 drinks already when she showed the torn part of her denim. Now while writing the post i'm pondering as to, what kind of abrasion would have caused it.I'm assuming, either got rubbed through a thorny bush or got rubbed against a surface with pointed sharp edges.

We all know what it is like to have a favorite pair of treasured jeans that are so comfortable and fit so perfectly that we want to wear them every day.

The downside to this pure and beautiful jean-love is that too much wear leads to jeans wearing out – with telltale holes especially around the knees – and then before you know it, you have to either start patching, or search around far and wide to find another pair of jeans as great as your favourite jeans. But now, thanks to “modern fashion” there is a better solution!

EVERYTHING has become “”cool”” and “”trendy”” all the threadbare patches, broken zippers, and holes in your favorite pair of jeans, patches, or any other torn parts, unless its not at the wrong place ;-D

Turn your used/damaged denim into a cool mended look !

So you always wanted those cool new patched/mended denims which are a rare collectible piece. Starts $ 380, approx INR 16,500.

Don't worry about your pocket money, Just turn one of your old jeans into these cool/rare looking denim.

Just pick up any one of your old/used jeans...........usually they always have one or two holes at the knee due to excess wear/tear.........just patch these holes with another piece of denim fabric( not the same denim fabric) so the color contrast could be achieved.

The ready stitched patch should look something like this below .....

The stitching has to be done carefully from inside so you don't see any thread outside, it gives extra strength and life to the patch and lasts long............

oK if like a nit more artistic and work done upon/customized look, you can go ahead and make it look more authentic and rare by stitching all round the mended holes with a thread color of your choice

( usually i prefer black, it gives it a more simple and natural look).

now either you could just rub it with a really hot iron for awhile or a mild sand paper ( this will make it look a bit brown/burnt aged look ...which looks more natural and professional).

After all these process just wash your newly crafted denim in th washing machine adding two caps of bleach , just to give it a more uniform and fresh color/wash. Hang dry !!

The new Spring 2011 collection is as i already discussed is a way more, uniform, chilled out and balanced.......then any of their earlier collection. This shows that they have really come a long way and now have created their space in the denim market and denim fans, they are much more confident and complete.

The denims which are the main line and bread and butter for meltin'pot is always the highlight for every season. Every time they try and create new look, new techniques and a lot more cool/street element to it.

This Spring the washes are the highlights..... Presented in a very fresh way, as a spring collection should be , the washes are very light, washed off, sky blue and cloudy........also if i'm right they have combined, traditional washing techniques with the new laser wash technique which gives those streaks like " it looks like thunder in clouds/sky" i call this wash the "THUNDER BOLT".........i have like 2 pairs of denim with this kind of wash........also, as per style.

The way the pocket,pattern and the cuts are pretty new and innovative............the pockets are more low cut/wide.............and i recently realised that its much more comfortable and easy then the regular denim pockets, which tends to be a bit tight when you try putting your hands. But of course for each his own style, and brand..............

They also have few cool denim shorts as well as cottons to offer, so this season lookin for some cool denims ??? Head to the nearest Meltin'POT outlet and LET YOURSELF MEEELLLTT ;-D

Denim leader calls on consumers to design the next line of blue jeans

GREENSBORO, N.C. (March 15, 2011) – Throughout its long history, Wrangler^® has placed tremendous value on the insights and ideas of its consumers. Now through April 26, the iconic denim brand will hand the design process over to consumers with the launch of Next Blue by Wrangler, a limited edition collection of blue jeans launching this fall. Through a unique online competition, consumers will both design and choose the first style in the Next Blue jean collection.

With no experience being necessary, participating in the Next Blue design contest only requires a vision. From design school students and fashion fiends to stay-at-home moms and weekend warriors, jean wearers from coast to coast are encouraged to submit ideas. Entering the competition is simple: contestants must create a short yet compelling video explaining a unique jean idea and upload it to www.NextBlue.com.

“The first jean ever made by Wrangler was designed by cowboys for cowboys back in 1947 when a rodeo tailor joined the brand and worked with actual rodeo stars to develop a product. That pair of jeans was literally designed by the very men who would eventually be wearing them,” said Craig Errington, vice president of marketing for Wrangler. “For more than 60 years we have been paying close attention to the needs and insights of our consumers; so the concept of Next Blue by Wrangler is both progressive yet uniquely tied to our brand’s legacy.”

To be eligible, video entries must be received by March 29, 2011. Submissions will then be narrowed down through a series of consumer-led voting rounds online. During the video entry period, visitors to www.NextBlue.com will vote to choose ideas they like best.

Based on originality and total number of votes received, Wrangler executives will then select five finalists to travel to Wrangler headquarters in Greensboro, N.C., to work alongside Wrangler designers, merchandisers and marketing teams to bring their ideas to life. Following this design period, beginning April 19, the five finalists will be showcased on www.NextBlue.com where fans will have one week to vote for the final winning design, announced on April 26.

Chosen to collaborate with one of the most recognized apparel brands in the world, the ultimate Next Blue winner will receive $5,000 and have their jean design produced, marketed and sold by Wrangler this fall.
