I didn’t do a post on my Internet earnings last week. Why not? It was because there were none! My total Internet earnings last week came to 75c. Sixty-six cents came from Adsense and 9c from Helium. Since I am spending $1 dollar a day with Adwords it was clear that something had to be done.

I have decided to concentrate my Adwords campaign on the US to begin with. This is my best choice simply because all my affiliates are based there. When I initially set up the adwords campaign to direct traffic to my Amazon aStore I set it up as a US campaign and that is how I should have left it. It was a mistake to try and get too fancy by setting up a UK aStore as well and running a separate campaign to point at that.

In hindsight, there was no need for me to upgrade my Adwords account from beginner to advanced. The beginners account allows you to create one campaign to run in one country. I upgraded in order to run a separate campaign for the UK aStore and also to run my ads in countries like Australia, New Zealand, Belgium and Germany; all of which countries figure relatively high in my visitors statistics.

A rather obvious problem with this is that in my particular niche lots of the items are live plants, many of which are only available for delivery within the 48 contiguous States so there is little point in paying for someone in Alaska to read my ad, let alone someone in Australia.

Lots of what I’m doing with Adwords now is trying to reverse what I’ve already done. So far I suspended the UK campaign until I have worked out what I’m doing with the US one. I have also specified to only show my ads in the US. Note: It’s worth keeping an eye on this. So far I have changed this setting twice now and somehow it keeps reverting to showing my ads in Australia, Belgium etc. When I noticed this happening from my stats I went back into Adwords to change it again. (Ok, ok. Maybe I just forgot to click on ‘save changes’!)

I have also decided to move away from the aStore and use more widgets and product placements in my blog itself. I have read a lot of criticism about aStores, saying that they look unprofessional and partly I have to agree with this. My initial success in the first couple of weeks seems to have been beginners luck and has ended. I have sold nothing in the aStore for the last two weeks – at a cost of $14!

My new strategy is to embed widgets and links in my blog and point the Adwords campaign to go directly my front page. The advantage I see with this is that it provides original content for the customer to read and gives them a reason to buy off my site rather than to go directly to Amazons or my other affiliates web-sites. It also brightens up my gardening blog with photos of other peoples work. Since I am only a beginner I don’t have any artistic creations of my own to show off. Having these pictures included in my blog might lead people to think I had something to do with creating them!

I noticed too that when I changed my Adwords ad to point it to a different url it took more than a day for the change to register. I made this change on Friday evening. According to my stats it was only this morning that the first hits were directed from the ad to my blog rather than the aStore, and even then they were from Australia!

Another change is that I have had a look at Commission Junction and I have signed up with some other affiliates. One of these pays 20% commission compared to Amazons 4%. It certainly was worth a look because a large proportion of the items in my aStore come from this affiliate anyway. The average price on one of these items is around $40-$50 so I’m looking forward to getting sales from them!

The final decision I have made this week is to drop Adsense from my personal blog. The simple reason for this is that it hasn’t worked. Adsense seems to be working pretty well on my gardening blog. There is at least something from it every day, no matter how small but I have not registered a single click from my personal blog. I have decided therefore to remove the advertising. Since I’m earning nothing from it anyway, I may as well give the impression of not being all about the money! I’ll try to work out another way to make money from my personal blog.

Traffic Exchange progammes. Any use?

The idea behind traffic exchange programmes is that you earn credits by visiting other people’s web-sites and then use those credits to get visitors to your own sites. For someone starting off they sound like a good way to increase traffic to your blog. There are lots of such programmes out there. So far I have tried three.

The method of accumulating credits has been similar in all three cases. You surf web-sites inside a frame set within which the traffic exchange site displays a site for a certain amount of time, usually more or less 30 seconds. At the end of the given time you are asked to click a particular number or image from a random list given to you in order to earn a credit and see the next site. This is to insure that it is humans who are visiting the sites.

The first traffic exchange site I tried was Blogexplosion.com. When you sign up with them your blog must first be approved by a moderator. You can start surfing immediately to earn credits but your blog won’t go into the rotation of sites to visit until it’s approved. Approval is supposed to take place within 72 hours but at the moment it appears that NEVER is a more realistic timeframe.

When I signed up for Blogexplosion.com I wasn’t aware of any of its back history but it appears to be in the middle of changing hands and at the moment the site is adrift. Some blogs are still getting approved but the backlog is huge; in my case now well over a month. In my initial enthusiasm for Blogexplosion before I realized the extent of the backlog I surfed away in work and accumulated about 1,700 credits. If the site ever does get back on its feet that’s a lot of visitors they owe me!

The next site I tried was Blogmad.net. The system of surfing is similar to Blogexplosion. There are some differences. One is that you can add your blog immediately. There are different options on how to verify your blog and once you’ve completed one of them your blog is immediately put into their rotation. Whereas with Blogexplosion you earn one credit for every two sites visited, with Blogmad you get one for one. I spent two days surfing sites in work earning credits and then sat back to watch the results; which I have to say have not been impressive.

I have my personal blog signed up with Blogmad. I have accumulated about 800 credits with them which it appears will take me more than six months to use up. I am getting an average of about 4 visitors a day from Blogmad.

You should bear in mind the fleeting nature of a visit from a traffic exchange site. I have it open in a browser window at work. Every 30 seconds I alt-tab to it and click whatever number is required. I watch briefly as the new site loads and then alt-tab back to my work screen. You have to assume that most other surfers are doing the same. I’m getting four of those a day. :(

I was hoping to be able to post a clever tip here for all people starting off with a blog. I thought of a rather clever idea to attract the attention of the traffic exchange surfer. Since people surfing on these sites are doing so in order to accumulate credits to get other people to visit their site and since Blogmad allows users to transfer credits among each other I thought of offering to give away credits to visitors to my blog.

In the top right hand corner of my blog I posted a prominent ad offering 50 Blogmad credits to whoever posted the ‘comment of the day’ on my blog. I thought this should catch the fleeting attention of the traffic exchange surfer. There were no takers. Since there were only three visitors via Blogmad that day I wasn’t too disappointed. The next day I put it up to 100 Blogmad credits. Still no takers. Every day I added another 50 credits. So far I’m up to 250 credits and nobody has come looking for them. That tells me that the people who use these traffic exchange sites pay about as much attention to the sites that they’re visiting as, well, as I do. That is, very little.

Just out of curiosity I’ll keep running the Blogmad promotion for another while to see how long it is before one of the ‘surfers’ spends enough time on my site to (a) notice the ad, (b) read one of my posts, and; (c) comment on one of them.

Shortly before I left work this evening I came across another traffic exchange programme, trafficg.com. I signed up for this and only surfed a few sites before I came home. Like Blogmad there is no approval period. You just sign up and add your blog is added straight away. Also like Blogmad the ratio is one credit for one site visited.

The difference between Blogmad and TrafficG is the amount of hits I got. In the two hours between leaving working and logging in to check my stats tonight the 20 TrafficG credits I had built up in work were gone. TrafficG does bring you hits. But again you have to wonder about the quality of the hits.

As I’m typing this I have it running in a browser in the background and I’m alt-tabbing to it every 30 seconds to visit another blog. That is the reality of traffic exchange programmes. Another unfortunate thing about TrafficG is that alt-tabbing to it every 30 seconds to register another click is preferable to actually viewing the sites. When you sign up for it you are given a choice of what type of sites you want to see. If you do sign up for it you should think carefully about this because if you select ‘any’ like I did you’re just going to get exposed to one get-rich-quick scheme after another.

In summary I think the only good thing that can be said about these traffic exchange programmes is that they are free. You accumulate credits by surfing other peoples sites. They also give you the option to buy credits rather than having to earn them but you would want to be mad to opt for that! It would be a complete waste of money. Consider the quality of the visit that you would get for your money. You would be as well off buying a monkey and training it to type your url into a browser.

On the plus side you’re better off having someone looking at your site for a split second rather than not at all. Even though I am the most brazen credit-hunter of them all I do occasionally come across an interesting blog when I’m surfing and I have added a few to my bookmarks.

If you want to give them a try then here is a list of traffic exchange programmes. Just don’t buy any credits and keep your firewall on and it won’t do any harm. Ps. If surfing from work make sure your speakers are turned off. Some of these sites are inconsiderately loud!

PageRank up, Alexa down. Woo hoo!

This has been a good start to my week blogging. All of a sudden I have now got three blogs which have achieved PageRank. This blog is now PageRank 2, as is my personal blog, while my bonsai blog is PageRank 1.

This is a good step forward for me and once again, as with my Alexa rank last week, all of the movement is in the right direction.

I also have more good news with my Alexa rankings. This blog has gone under a million for the first time and now stands at 969,979. The bonsai blog is at 1,368,894. My personal blog is hosted on another server and so I can’t take all the credit for the ranking it gets as a result.

Meanwhile my new Blogumnist blog, about how I quit my day job to blog is a new entrant to Alexa. It started off last week at 8,000,000 and now stands at 2,621,242.

While I’m still not making enough money from blogging to live on I take it as a good sign that after one week of being a full-time blogger (in theory at least) and just a little over a month of being any way serious about it I’ve at least made some progress with Alexa and PageRank.

The single most important thing I have done so far to achieve this has been to go out and visit other blogs and commented. I feel this to be the best way to build your online presence to begin with.

Some people have talked to me about how I make money through affiliate marketing. They want to copy me, because they think that they can be successful. So, let’s say you’ve never started affiliate marketing. I have a feeling that many of the people who read me have not done a whole lot with affiliate marketing and might not of done anything at all. One of the easiest and most simple things you can do is go and buy yourself a domain name. It’s cheap, and easy. It will show you are dedicated to your cause. Then you can buy some hosting, personally, I like site5. I’ve been with them since the beginning of the year and my server has not been down once.

Alright now that you have your hosting and domain name, think of a topic. What do YOU enjoy? It can be golf, sports cars, umbrellas, anything under the sky is game! Now one of the easiest ways to be an affiliate for products that are sold in a store is to start writing a blog about it. Use your brand new domain name and setup Wordpress. Then get a good theme, and all that jazz and you’ll be set. Notice, I am not describing in depth how to do this, because, you are all smart enough to use the good ole’ google.

Once you have that blog setup, think up 5 keywords you want to rank for in Google. Write a lot of content, the more the better, and put in your keyword naturally, but as often as you can. Be careful not to spam it because Google will detect it and it won’t help you. Once your all keyword selected and you have your content make sure you submitted your site to Google, otherwise, people will not find you.

This is just one situation you can have, like I said, there are countless others. Keep thinking up new ideas, launch a new site as often as you can! The more the better!

In the early days of Search Engines ( 1990 ), keywords density was the main factor for rankings. One of the webmaster detected it and implemented it. Then it become viral and search engines started to make it a minor factor for SERP rankings. High keyword density is called Keyword Stuffing which may lead your website to get penalized.

From My Experience :- I never accept the SEO facts without implementing them on my blogs. However I doesn’t try any of them on Technoupdates. Here I just write for my readers , not for Search Engines. But I have other blogs for such an experiments. I personally recommend Keyword Density up to 5%. But my recommendation is based on my experience.

I tried High Keyword Density on 2 of my blogs. In every article of those blogs , Keyword density was 7-12 %. First 100 Words of the articles, were having 50% Keyword Density. Means If I wrote 30 words in the first paragraph, then 15 of them were various related keywords. While the remaining paragraphs were having only 3-4% of keywords density. However both were all about Indian Traffic but I was able to get #1 Rankings and nearly 6K+ Daily Visitors per blog after 600-700 small,copied and nonsense articles ( Full of Keywords ).

Rand Fishkin :- Well, I always follow SEOmoz but as earlier stated that I don’t blindly believe in any tips without implementing them. Rand says that Search Engines doesn’t use Keyword Density factor for rankings. I think that’s my experiment with my blogs which is not letting me to believe in the view of Rand Fishkin about keyword density.

But he completely doesn’t denies it. According to his OnPage SEO Guide, we must use keywords in the starting of paragraph and then somewhere in the article. So if we used keyword placement according to his guide , then won’t be there any percentage of keyword Density ?

Aaron Wall :- That’s another great expert whom I follow. According to Aaron ‘Keyword Density is an Over rated Concept’. He says it matters but should make a sense. And the article shouldn’t look like the robot made.

Bill Slawski :- Finally one expert is having same view as me :D . He says that Keyword Density is a legend and will always carry its SEO importance.

Kevin Heisler :- I found one more supporter here. Kevin says that 2.5% Keyword Density is always good. No matter on what topic you are writing, but it will have a specific keyword density for any given keyword.

As far as I’m concerned for Google keyword density is a non-factor. I’m not saying the algorithms don’t take it into account at all, but I am saying it’s a bit fruitless to even worry about.Keyword frequency matters to a certain degree, one would think. If your keywords and a few choice synonyms didn’t show up naturally in the body text, you’re probably not covering the topic all that well.

Final Words From me About Keyword Density

You can see nearly every expert above says that it doesn’t matters. They are not giving any exact percentage but they are forcing to say that it should look natural. According to them your keywords should be present in the article and should make a sense. So they all are in the favor of 1-1.5% keyword density.

But I am still in the favor of Keyword Density more then 3% . If you want to build a brand then don’t write to get traffic, just write to get reader’s attention. As I have seen effect of Keyword Density , So I will say its a ranking factor ( At least for my blog network ). Google changes its ranking algorithms on regular basis. May be keyword density is added as a main factor by them now ( May be ).

I don’t know you agree with me or not. But I have seen its effect and having a list of 5+ Active blogs which are having keyword density up to 20% in their articles and ranking on first page. Well I don’t recommend so high density ( 10+ ) but don’t forget its importance while writing an article. I think I have clear my concept about the density of keyword. Its time to hear from you. In my blogging journey I have seen a lot of peoples around worrying about Google PR ( Page Rank ) but very few of them are worried about Alexa Rank

People loves to make Page Rank High for their website. I have seen a lot of websites which provides very less information but having high Page Rank.They love to build PR because they have only motive to sell their websites . However its very hard to earn Page Rank.

But I don’t think Page Rank matters for traffic from Google . Lets take Example of my blog EduWays , Its just 3 Months old blog made by me and having PR 0 at this time but when it comes to traffic I have beaten a lot of Bloggers in my Niche . So does PR still matters ?

Some Points About Google Page Rank

1. If your PR is high then Advertiser won’t think much while displaying Ads on your website .And that’s the reason most of peoples are worried about their website’s Page Rank .

2. If you are having PR Zero like Mine Blog then it doesn’t means you won’t get traffic from Google . As explained above my blog EduWays is having PR 0 yet I am getting daily 12-15K page views and 90% of my traffic comes from Big G .

3. We are not saying that Page Rank Zero rocks but don’t worry much about it.Just keep posting fresh content to attract more visitors and get search engine juice .Make comment on other blogs and let Google to decide it for you .

Alexa Ranking

Based on my experience with Alexa Ranking System I can say its not hard to get better Alexa Rank. Actually Alexa Rank depends on your blog niche and then on your traffic .

Lets take example of my two blogs :-

Technoupdates.Org got Alexa Rank of 11 Lakhs within 1 Month whereas for EduWays it took 3 Months . Time is not a Factor here but both posts and traffic are.

At Technoupdates I am having 32 Articles at that time whereas at EduWays I have 800 Articles .Daily Visitors at Eduways are 4000-4500 while Technoupdates is getting only 90-120 daily visits .

So from above information we can say that Alexa Rank depends on traffic and niche.You may notice that Blogging, SEO,Technology etc related Niche Blogs are getting very high Alexa Rank within very less time . Its all because of Alexa Toolbar . If you have Alexa Browser Toolbar installed then it will improve Alexa rank of websites you visit most . So if your blog is about Blogging then there will be a lot of peoples with Alexa Toolbar installed and thus Alexa Rank improves .

Some Points Above Alexa Ranking

1. A lot of Advertisers now prefer Alexa Rank while approving your website to show their Ads .For example :- BuySellAds

2. If your site is having low Alexa Rank then it simply means that you are not updating it regularly .Try to post frequently ( Daily ) .

4. According to Screenshot, Select the Location, language, device and click search. Now it will show the related keyword ideas. Results can be sorted as per Global Monthly searches,Keyword competition, local monthly searches and the Cost per click ( CPC ) for that particular keyword.

How to Analyze Competition for Keyword ?

You have learned how to find the keyword but how to know that you can rank for this keyword or not ? There are two methods to analyze the competition.

1. Using Google ( Manually ).

2. Using a third party keyword analyzing software like Traffic travis,Stealth Keyword , Long tail pro etc.

Software does everything automatically , it will show you the page rank of the domains which are ranking top for that keyword,backlinks to them and total pages indexed for keyword. So I don’t think there is any need to describe the process of using a keyword analysis software. We will discuss the best and free way to do so – The Manual Method of Keyword Research.

Using Google to find keyword competition

1. First choose the keyword of your choice from Adwords tool Results. Always go with low competition and high searched keywords.

2. Now open Google.com ( For Global Searches Analysis ) or open the country specific domain of Google for local searches analysis like google.co.in , google.co.uk etc.

3. Enter you keyword and search. Make sure to put the keyword in the Quotes like example : “How to do research”

4. Now its time to see how much competitors you have for that keyword. Simply add ” &start=990 ” without quotes in the last of your Google search URL and press “enter”. By doing so you can figure that how many URLs Google has indexed for this keyword. See following screenshot :

5. Now its time to see how many of your competitors have done On Page SEO. In Google search bar add this code intitle:”keyword”

Adding the “intitle:”keyword” will show you the URLs which have that keyword in article title. For example I searched “intitle:”how to do research”

You can see there are 2600 Results for that query. Anything below 7-8K is good and you can easily rank for it.

6. URL structure and keyword used in URL is also a great ON Page SEO Factor. Now we will find that how many articles have that keyword in their URLs.

Adding the “inurl:”keyword” will show you the web pages which have that keyword in the URL of article. In the screenshot I have searched the combination of both “inurl:”keyword” and “intitle:”keyword” . Doing this will help to find the web pages which have done the proper On Page SEO for that keyword.

Recent researches from SEOmoz has shown that ranking a long tail keyword is easy and it converts a lot of traffic too.

Recently I received some comments from a lot of visitors saying that I should add Top Commentator Widget to reward them. Well its always good to give your readers something that make them to return back to your blog. But I won’t never use Top commentator plugin. Here are some reasons that Why I won’t use this plugin.

Spam Comments

That’s not the major reason because of whom I am not using this plugin. Already I am getting a lot of spammy comments and I don’t have time to delete so much comments. Once you have setup Top Commentator Plugin , Its usual that everybody will try to make as much comments as he/she can. Some people target WordPress Blogs which are having ” Top Commentator Plugin” installed. If they got position in Top commentator, Simply they will get free traffic and promotion. Well, Its not bad but what about those guys who just comment to be one of top commentators ? Sorry but I don’t need more comments like ” Thanks You” , ” great article ” and ” You are great ” etc.

Search Engine Hates Such Links : So Very bad For SEO

This is the major reason that I am not using such a plugins. Using this plugin isn’t only bad for SEO of your own blog but also for the blog of top commentators. Mostly blogs reset their top commentator widget after one month. See How using this plugin will be harmful for both :

Blog Owner :- Changing links again and again will smell like Paid Links to search engines. However those links are usually nofollow but its all up to Search Engines to deny them or follow them. Even nofollow links have their own value and they leak some PR juice too.

Commentator :- Its always profitable to build backlinks. But the lost links are always harmful. As the blog owner resets the widget after month, so your link won’t be there anymore. So it will effect the SEO of your blog too.

Example :- Suppose you commented on a blog which have nearly 100 articles and “Top commentator Widget”. You submitted enough comments and got featured as a Top commentator. In other words you will get nearly 100 Backlinks ( Widget will appear on all pages of blog ). After 5-6 days Google will index the links and you will be able to see them in Google Webmasters Tool. But in the next month, once widget is reset those links won’t be there. This will lead to negative SEO for both Blog owner and commentator.

Its not a reward, Its forcing to comment regularly

As I told that mostly blogger reset their Top Commentator plugin after one month. So next month you have to be active again on their blog. So isn’t it forcing to comment ? Its bad for blog owner too because they will suffer from Comment Surges. Means people will race to be one of the top commentator of blog in the first week of month. I won’t never recommend to use Top commentator plugin. However some bloggers mayn’t be agree with my views. Because they keep saying that they care about readers not about Google. But if you don’t care about Google and SEO than you are missing a lot of new readers which you could get through search engines. I will suggest following ways to reward the top commentators of your blog :-

1. You can organize a giveaway for the top commentator. By using this technique you will get more comments. If you can’t afford giveaway then contact some advertisers to host the giveaway and they will surely provide some product copies for giveaway.

2. Other thing you can do to reward your top commentators is sharing their website link on your social accounts. It may give them some traffic.

3. Other way is using your old articles ( dead articles ) which are not getting traffic. You can use those articles to provide dofollow link to the top commentator’s blog.

4. You can Use alternative plugins to boost the number of comments. I follow this method to reward my readers. I am using CommentLuv and Keyword luv plugins which give 2 backlinks to commentator’s website with effective “Anchor Texts “.

Basically there are Four things that are powerful and we will discuss about in this article. These are following :-

1. SEO Optimized Permalinks Structure

Permalinks Structure plays a vital role in SEO of your website . To edit or see your current Permalinks structure navigate to Dashboard>>Settings>>Permalinks . Mostly blogs make use of %postname% permalinks structure and Even I am using same structure on this blog but the best Permalinks for SEO is %category%/%postname% . Yes its the best performing Permalinks Structure that even many Experts and Pro Bloggers suggest .

So if you have planned to use that Permalinks structure then you should be aware of one biggest problem in WordPress Category Permalinks Structure . By default WordPress have this structure for Categories :- domain.com/category/categoryname . So if you used that permalink structure then you would have very less space for your post keyword in post URL . For example if you are writing an article ” How to Get Adsense Approval ” and category you used for this article is ” adsense ” . Then your permalink would be something like domain.com/category/adsense/how-to-get-adsense-approval-fast .

Solution :- So you can see that category base permalink structure is not SEO Friendly by default. There is a plugin which would help you a lot if you are going with Categories Bast permalink structure . Its WP No Category Base Plugin . As described above by default WordPress Categories Based Permalink structure is domain.com/category/categoryname but after using this plugin your category permalink would be something like domain.com/categoryname . Means the annoying word “category ” won’t be there no more .

2. HTML Semantic Structure

That’s the thing where WordPress is a shit ! Believe me, I am not lying . 95% Wp Themes are crap in this area . They are advertised as SEO Friendly but they aren’t . By “Crap” Word I mean the wrong structure of theme which is not good for SEO .

Heading Tags like H1 to H6 represent semantic meanings like Title / Sub Title . Usually H1 have more weight but H6 have less weight in Eye of Search Engines . So usually you should use them inside your Article but mostly WordPress Themes uses these tags in other fields of your blog like Sidebar, Blog Header , Footer etc . And mostly themes use H1 Tag as Header Logo / Blog Title which is the worst part of On Website SEO .

2.1 Why its bad SEO to Use Heading Tags For Sidebars / Footer Widgets

You shouldn’t use Heading Tags for Sidebar And Footer Widgets because usually they appears on every post of your blog . So if there title are like ” Latest Posts ” , “Tags” , “Archive ” , Then search engine would count them as Article Keywords . So you shouldn’t use Heading Tags for your widgets Titles .

2.2 Why it is bad SEO practice to Have Blog Header / Title as H1 ?

Same as Sidebar And Footer , it also appears in every article . So if you are having your article title as H1 and using H1 inside your post body . Then there will be two H1 Tags which is very -2 bad for SEO . You shouldn’t have Two H1 tags on Same Page . H1 must have the keyword you are going to rank the post for and I am sure your header don’t have different keywords on different pages . So never use use H1 Tag for Blog Title / Header as H1 have more weight . You can use H2 for this purpose .

Solution :- So here is the solution for both of these problems . You can see I am using Blog Title as H1 and Post Title as H2 on Homepage . But on my post pages Blog Title becomes H2 and Post Title becomes H1 which is effective SEO Structure . All that is possible with Conditional Tags only.

Div And Span are HTML Tags which can be used for Widgets Title if you don’t want to give any weight or preference to them . These are the tags mostly used by Web Designers . There is basically one main difference between these Tags , DIV is termed as block level whereas SPAN is termed as inline level .

Making Widgets Title SEO Friendly :- For further editing you must have some knowledge of WordPress Themes ( php ) editing . Otherwise I can’t help you . The thing you have to do is Editing sidebar.php of your wordpress theme . In sidebar.php you can edit Heading Tag to other tags you want . Same thing you have to do with footer ( If you are using ) . Just edit footer.php according to your needs . I won’t go into details just find the default H* Tag being used in your sidebar / Footer title and edit it according to your choice .

So you have to do following changes :-

1. Editing Single.php to make post/page title as H1 on Single Post .

2. Editing Footer.php And Sidebar.php to ensure that no heading tags is used for their Title .

3. Search engine directives / no-indexing

Canonical URLs :- That’s the first thing to view but if you are a WordPress User then go ahead because WordPress already have Canonical URLs . But if you are planning to design a new theme or doing changes then keep it in mind .

Search Results Pages :- There are various pages in your blog that must be attributed as no-index and even Google Recommends it . Basically I won’t go into details but at least you must no-index Tags , Categories , archives and Search Result pages of your blog . And that would be much better if you replace your default search box with Google Search Box .

No-Index Tag Pages :- It also have much effect on your website SEO . You must add no-index attribute to your tags pages so that they won’t appear in Search Engine Results . To do so , you can make use of “All in One SEO ” or “Yoast SEO” Plugin . Now you will think that Why we should no index tag pages ? Reason is simple you shouldn’t make your duplicate pages appear again and again in Search Results .

By doing so number of indexed pages will decrease but believe me Search Engines Would love your site . Basically you add 4-5 Tags to every post you create ,simply there would me more Tag Pages then Content Pages which can’t be stated good in any condition .

Categories Pages :- However you shouldn’t use no-index for categories if you are having few numbers of targeting categories but if you’re having hundreds of categories then its better to no-index them for spam prevention .

Archives Pages :- In most of the cases you must no-index archive pages because they also looks shitty and spammy . You shouldn’t have Archives Widget on your blog because it would make anchor text like ” January ” ” 2013 ” etc. And if you are having Author / Listing Pages then make sure to no-index them as well . For purpose of no-indexing you must use of ” Meta Robots Wp Plugin ” .

4. Interlinking in Smart Way

Homepage Link For Better SEO :- If you are having an Homepage link in your header then make sure to add no-follow attribute to it . Instead you can add that do-follow Homepage link in your footer which would have less impact on SEO . Always remind that Header Links have more power then Footer Links in case of SEO .

Removing Bad Links :- By bad links I mean Tags,Categories,Archives Pages which we have no-indexed . Also there are some other links like post date and author which also shouldn’t appear to Search Engine . Yes, You should use them for better user navigation but make sure to no-follow them .

No More Silly / Useless Widgets :- Any of widget you are using on your site if not having much use then it must be eliminated . It won’t only speed up your pages but also would provide a clean and pretty experience to users .

Dangers of Using Many WordPress Plugins

You should not use much WordPress plugins on your blog. Don’t only use plugins because they exists . You must have a solid and good reason to use a plugin . So Be strict to plugins and only select those which are vital . I know such guys who implement Trojans in plugins and took control over thousands of websites . Always make sure you download plugins only from wordpress.org plugins directory because there are very few chances that listed plugins there would have Trojan inside them .

5. Excerpt And Content Description

This is not having much effect on SEO but its must for uniqueness . You should add some description on your listing pages or category pages . But if you have no-indexed them because they are available in bulk then no need to do this . But if you are having less Tags And Categories then you must add descriptions to them .

Description can be anything between 60-250 Words and even more if you are a hardcore and wanna make some sense .

Use of Short Excerpts :- Always make sure you have short excerpt on your Homepage and listing pages . You shouldn’t have more then 200 characters ( 60-70 Words ) for your post excerpts . Because excerpt is only a thing which gives an exact idea that about what your article is ! So use small content for excerpts and also make sure you aren’t using Full RSS Feeds .

First of All you should remove following Plugins ( If Installed ) . I am saying to remove because Yoast’s SEO Plugin can do their Job :-

1. Robots Meta.

2. Category No Base Plugin .

3. All in One SEO .

4. RSS Footer Plugin .

5. Yoast Breadcrumbs etc.

6. Google XML Sitemap .

Once you installed Yoast SEO Plugin you can import settings of above listed plugins . So after importing , remove them .

Just Tick mark the box of plugin whose settings you want to import . Also don’t forget to Tick Mark the option saying ” Delete the old data after import? ” .

Why to No-Index Tags/ Categories /Author And Date Archives Pages ?

There is a simple reason . Suppose you made only single article on your blog . Simply we add 3-4 Tags to an article . Resultant there will be one or two date based archive pages , Author Page , 3-4 Tag Pages and 1-2 Categories pages . So in simple words , your blog would have more pages then the articles .
So its always profitable to no index such pages . No-indexing simply means to tell search engines that which pages you don’t want to show in Search Results Pages .

XML Sitemap

We can say Yoast’s SEO Plugin is a multitask plugin . If you are wishing to remove one more plugin then go and remove Google XML Sitemap Plugin because WordPress SEO Plugin by Yoast can do this for you. You can use this plugin to generate sitemap of your WordPress blog .

Yoast SEO Permalinks Setup

Permalink is the most important factor of On Page SEO . Permalinks plays vital role to improve your Search Engine Rankings, so take it seriously .

1. First option of this section helps you to get rid of category base URLs in WordPress . By Default WordPress Category Pages are as : example.com/category/categoryname . After ticking that box your WordPress Blog Category Structure would be : example.com/categoryname .

2. You can select 2nd option if you want a slash ( / ) in the last of your Permalinks as a tail . Further options makes sense already so I think no need to explain here .

Using this section you can edit Robots.txt and .htaccess file of your WordPress Blog . However this is not recommended many times .

Comment Luv , hope that’s not a new term for you. Its a great plugin developed by Andy Bailey . I am also using GASP plugin by Andy. GASP plugin helped me a lot to get rid of Spam Comments. You can use Comment Luv to reward your blog commentators and getting more traffic. Currently Comluv is having two versions : One is freemium and another is premium. However its a great plugin from every side but yet it have some disadvantages. So today I am going to list advantages and disadvantages of using Comment Luv plugin.

Disadvantages of Using Com Luv Plugin

To Much Outbound Links ( OBL ) :- That’s the main problem of using com luv. If you are having at least Pr2 blog which have Comment Luv Enabled. Then you will see a lot of comments daily. Its usual and nearly every Comment Luv user faces that problem. Peoples like to spam on such blogs .

Every single approved comment contains 2 Out Bound Links. One with their name and one from loved article. Suppose you got 50 comments on an article, then this page will get nearly 100 Outbound links. However it doesn’t affect much but it may be a big issue if you got 150-200 Comments on that article .

Slow Page Loading :- Page Loading is a great factor of SEO. Search Engines love fast loading web pages. By decreasing the load time of your blog you can easily get much attention and visitors from search engines. Have a view on the article by Neil Patel . In the article he shows that how he doubled traffic of quicksprout by decreasing the page load time.

But using comment luv will decrease the load time of your article pages. A lot of gravatars and out bound links will make your article page to load slowly.

I’ve been having a little…”fun” recently. I enjoy making money, heck I bet you do too! That’s why I have been slowly eliminating AdSense from my blog. Stop Tweaking the Blog Design and Start Writing Already

With the launch of this blog and a refocus of a few others, I’ve been addicted to tweaking blog designs. From knowing nothing about Photoshop and only very basic HTML, I can now create basic graphic designs and rearrange/add features on my blog through tweaking CSS and PHP codes. I find all this fascinating and fun but perhaps more importantly, time consuming.

Even though I’m starting to spend much more time on my blogs, I find myself running out of hours in the day. From the minute I wake up, I’m consumed with working on different things to improve my blogs. This morning might be about making the title look better on OC Golf Course, while the afternoon’s agenda might be moving the content from being in the center to the left on MoneyNing.

While all these changes turned out great and I’m glad I made them, I seem to have forgotten that content is what blogs are about. Great designs might be what initially get a visitor to read the first article, but valuable and interesting information is what turns the visitor into a reader. Insightful information is what turns the reader into a subscriber and subscribers are the foundation for readership growth.

When my life is full of interesting events, the content of my blogs naturally become better. Because blogging is about sharing, our content reflects our life experiences. The richer our life experiences, the more colorful our content.

I also find that when I can relate to the topic on a personal level, I can write more passionately and often have much more ideas to share. I can continue to write about personal finance day in and day out because I take my finances seriously. Even without the blog, I would be thinking about my personal finances constantly so it is extremely easy to come up with topics ideas to share with my readers.

Sometimes, I really want to comment on an article that other bloggers write about but I just don’t know what to write and I often give up. By sharing life experiences, there is a greater possibility that readers can relate to the article and thus increase interactivity of the blog. A couple of days ago when I wrote about my experience calling my web hosting tech support, readers could commented because they had similar experiences with their hosting company.

Of course, just any experience is not enough. If all I talk about is that I write blogs, it wouldn’t be too interesting would it? In order for your articles to be engaging and interesting, your life should be interesting. No one wants to read about what you ate if you eat the same salad everyday, but if you go to different restaurants everyday, then sharing your experience would be much more worthwhile.
