Location:  Sam Gary Branch Library, 2961 N. Roslyn St. at 29th Ave.


Status/Schedule:  Regular, full-time, 40 hours per week.  The schedule will be determined by the needs of the department and may include evening and weekend hours.

Background Info:  Staff at the Sam Gary Branch Library will work collaboratively to provide services and materials to children, families and adults. The service will support the Library's strategic initiatives of providing early literacy experiences to infants through preschoolers; developing school-age readers and life-long learners; and enriching adult lives through cultural programming and merchandised collections. This position will play a key role in making the library an integral part of the community.

DUTIES

Duties and Responsibilities:  Provides leadership to the branch, cluster and system. Works with a team of Cluster Senior Librarians and Managers to develop, design, and implement system-wide services and programs based on cluster initiatives. Promotes and nurtures pre-reading and reading skills through storytimes and outreach. Builds relationships with youth and their families to nurture curiosity and to provide homework and technology assistance. Oversees programming and displays that engage and enrich adult lives. Supervises daily operations of a branch location including personnel, scheduling, collection and customer service issues.  Communicates effectively about issues and initiatives with customers, staff, volunteers and administration.

QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:  Knowledge of library services for youth, including reader's advisory, ECRR best practices and positive youth development. Knowledge of publishing trends, popular materials and adult programming. Knowledge of technology for staff and customer use. Skill in providing strong, passionate and compassionate leadership. Ability to recruit, select, train and motivate a dedicated and talented staff. Ability to model a positive attitude, excellent interpersonal skills, cultural sensitivity, and a sense of humor. Ability to creatively solve problems, negotiate and handle stressful situations in a positive manner. Ability to create and maintain positive staff relationships. Ability to communicate effectively with both individuals and groups. Ability to multi-task and prioritize. Ability to be innovative and flexible.

Experience:  Two years of post-MLS librarian experience in a public library.
 
Education:A Master's in Library Science from an ALA accredited institution.

Works serving families, children, young adult and adult customers in a branch dedicated to providing intergenerational programs to English as second language speakers, and services to diverse populations in an urban neighborhood.



QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:  Knowledge of office practices and procedures.  Skill in operating a computer, working with attention to detail, and ability to make simple mathematical computations. Skill in interpreting, communicating and presenting information. Ability to thrive working in an environment with constant public contact with people from all backgrounds and age groups. Qualifications:  Enjoy working in the evolving world of computer technology - Desire to teach - Good people skills including patience, cultural sensitivity, establishing boundaries and mutual respect - Ability to troubleshoot, and experiment with trial and error - English language skills required, Bilingual English and Spanish language is a plus.

Blair-Caldwell AARL Branch Technology Docents, volunteer at the Blair-Caldwell AARL Branch Library.

The Denver Public Library is recruiting docents to join our team of skilled staff.  

Docents will work directly with the public sharing their technology knowledge and expertise, patience, and customer service skills in a branch library setting.

DUTIES

Assist DPL customers with the use of computers, software and the Internet in scheduled one-on-one appointments.
  
Technical skills required: Microsoft Office any version, (2007 preferred) especially Word - Resume creation - Web applications including setting up and using email and social network accounts and completing online forms and job applications.













QUALIFICATIONS

Qualifications:  Enjoy working in the evolving world of computer technology - Desire to teach - Good people skills including patience, cultural sensitivity, establishing boundaries and mutual respect - Ability to troubleshoot, and experiment with trial and error - English or Spanish language desired.
