A Read Aloud volunteer should feel comfortable promoting the major objectives of the Read Aloud Program, which are: 

To provide opportunities for children to experience the joy of reading and to develop a love of books. 

To promote the use of the Denver Public Library and its branches among preschoolers and their families. 

To develop pre-reading skills among Denver's children. 



DUTIES

As an ambassador of the Denver Public Library, a Read Aloud volunteer makes a commitment: 

To visit and read to a preschool for approximately 30 minutes, once a week for fifteen weeks. 

To pick up the prepared Read Aloud bookpacks weekly at a convenient DPL branch. 

To prepare for storytime each week by practicing reading the books aloud. 

To read the stories and discuss the books with the children. 

To discuss books and share read-aloud techniques and prepared booklists with teachers. 

To promote library services and library card registration to children and their families.

QUALIFICATIONS

A Read Aloud volunteer should have: 

A love of books and of the library. 

A respect for children as unique, important individuals. 

A desire to help children learn about themselves and their world. 

A sensitivity to economically disadvantaged children and families. 

Reliable mode of transportation. 

Read Aloud volunteers must be 18 years old or older to participate, and must successfully pass the background check.

QUALIFICATIONS

Ability to self-motivate in constantly learning and sharing about new reference resources.  Ability to thrive working in an environment with constant public contact.  Ability to provide reference service to people from all backgrounds and age groups in a variety of formats (in-house, telephone, online chat, and e-mail).  Ability to demonstrate positive attitude, excellent interpersonal skills, cultural sensitivity and a sense of humor in working with customers, coworkers, and community. Experience:  Experience in providing high volume, innovative library service preferred. Spanish language fluency is a plus.   

Education:Master's in Library Science from an ALA accredited institution or plans to receive one within 90 days of hire.

Knowledge of early literacy best practices in library and community settings.  Knowledge of the Public Library Association's ECRR initiative and supporting materials/resources.  Knowledge of positive youth development practices.  Knowledge of children's literature.  Knowledge of information needs, collection maintenance and reader/media guidance for all ages. QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:  Knowledge of cleaning materials and the operation of custodial equipment.  Ability to perform routine and repetitive manual tasks for extended periods.  Ability to work in a physically demanding position with continuous bending, kneeling, and lifting of objects that can weigh up to 25-50 pounds.   Ability to follow simple written or oral instructions.  Ability to work with a diverse group of people.  Ability to work independently.

Experience:  One year custodial experience preferred.

Education:High school graduate or equivalent preferred.

Programs are located at six branch locations throughout the Denver area at DPL's L&amp;amp;L Cluster.

Duties and Responsibilities:Assists in the specialized facilitation of activities that engage diverse populations including but not limited to: language conversation, creative expression, citizenship and general daily life topics geared towards self-sufficiency.  Works cooperatively with the program team to facilitate informational and practical programming through informal methods and inclusive approaches.

QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:  Knowledge of the needs of immigrant populations.  Skill in developing insights into newcomers' changing trends.  Ability to apply creative solutions to program design as part of a collaborative team effort.  Ability to work with inter-generational audiences, individually or in small work group environments.  Ability to engage in a multi-lingual environment.  Ability to transition into a variety of activities as requested by participants and program team. DUTIES

Duties and Responsibilities:  Provides high-level and high-profile administrative support to the City Librarian (Library Director) and the Library Commission.  Interacts with top City officials, outside organizations, the public and staff at all levels.  Maintains the City Librarian's appointment calendar and coordinates meetings and other engagements.  Provides some calendar/meeting support to Executive Team members.  Prepares and edits complex internal and external documents, agendas, minutes, meeting notes, correspondence and other communications. Communicates Library's policies/procedures and general information to a variety of internal and external audiences.  Monitors director's budgets and funds.  Anticipates director's needs by gathering records, reports, statistics and other information.  Answers phones, prepares reports and acts as "gatekeeper."

The Denver Public Library (DPL) Community Relations department is seeking a pool of ten unpaid volunteers to act as the DPL Street Team at community and Library events in 2013. 

Street Team members join Community Relations staff in representing the Denver Public Library at events throughout the City. 

Volunteers work directly with the public, engaging in conversation and sharing information about the Library. Assignments will be on an on-call basis as needed for specific events. 

These positions are unpaid. Volunteers will receive a DPL t-shirt or tote bag. 

DUTIES

*Set up, staffing and clean-up for information table at various indoor and outdoor community events 
*Assist with set-up, staffing and clean-up for community events at Library locations
*Share written and verbal information about the Library
*Assist with activities that engage the public including but not limited to arts &amp;amp; crafts, button-making, prize drawings, and swag distribution
*Ability to lift and transport boxes, tables, canopy, etc. 
*Ability to provide own transportation to various locations in the City

The Denver Public Library is recruiting docents to join our team of skilled technology staff.  

Docents will work directly with the public sharing their knowledge, patience, and customer service skills in a fast-paced environment, while handling multiple technology requests.

DUTIES

Assist DPL customers with the uses of computers.  
Technical skills required: Microsoft Office any version, (2007 preferred) - Creating resumes - Internet Explorer/Mozilla Firefox - Web applications including email, social networks, online forms and job applications - File management--saving to storage media including burning CDs and flash drives - Trouble shooting printing issues. 

Preferred Technical skills:  Gadget knowledge including cameras and phones -  Music related devices including MP3 players - Understand technical and copyright issues. 

TRAINING PROVIDED ON:  Microsoft Office 2007 - Wireless connection - Technical setup of DPL computers - De-escalation and customer service - Library/Computer policies.










QUALIFICATIONS

Technical skills required: Microsoft Office any version, (2007 preferred) especially Word - Resume creation - Web applications including setting up and using email and social network accounts and completing online forms and job applications.













QUALIFICATIONS
