iPad 3 on March 7th!

It's official, the next-generation Apple iPad is set for an unveiling on March 7. Apple sent out the following invite to the press for the event at 10AM Pacific on March 7 at the Yerba Buena Centor for the Arts in San Francisco.

As rumored, the invite pictured above suggests that the new iPad (not officially dubbed the iPad 3 yet as iPad 2S and iPad HD are sill possibilities) will sport a Retina Display with a resolution of 2048 x 1536, twice the amount of the iPad 2. In order to power the higher quality display, the unit may be slightly thicker (sources say as little as 1mm thicker) to accommodate a larger battery. Other expected features of the next iPad include an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera, as well as 4G LTE support.

It's also worth noting that the home button may be getting the axe, hence the "And touch" part of the invitation. As you can see in the picture above, there is no home button to be found on the bottom edge of the device, which is where it's located on current devices. And we know for a fact that the edge shown in the picture is the bottom edge of the iPad (where the home button is located on current devices), as the icon spacing we see only occurs when the tablet is held in portrait mode.

What is currently unknown, however, is what kind of processor will power the device. One would assume that it's going to be more powerful than the one found in the current-gen iPad 2, given that this is an upgrade and a more powerful display calls for a more powerful chipset. But precisely what kind of processor will be found in this iPad and whether it will be dual-core or quad-core remains a mystery. We'll just have to wait until March 7 to find out.

Waterproof your iPhone without a case

The people at Liquipel have designed a coating that when applied in their machine will waterproof any electronic device with a coating. The coating is breathable, which means that air can travel through the coating but water molecules cannot so you don't have to worry about your device overheating. This will change the fragility of electronics around water like rain or accidental drops in puddles. But is that a good thing? With this technology people may not be as careful with their electronics and may be more prone to drops.

What will this do to the case market? People will most likely still buy a case to protect against drops but will not be looking to the new waterproof case from Lifecase. Instead people will be able to purchase a small sleek case for minor drops and have the Liquipel coating to protect against water damage and still maintain that slim profile.

Self Guided Bullet

Two researchers at Sandia's National Laboratories have created a self guided bullet that looks much like a dart but is fired from a gun and can hit a target up to a mile away. The bullet uses laser guided technology that will find a laser beam and track to that target. Check out the video below and don'f forget to share on facebook.

Never give up playing video games again!

Guys never have to give up watching your favorite sports or playing video games again if your girl wants to watch something else. Samsungs new 55" Super OLED TV has a feature called Dual View which allows two different things to be displayed at the same time in full HD using the full 55" for each. This works by using the 3D active glasses to display one of the two images on the screen. The glasses also have built in speakers by the ears so each person can hear the audio from whatever show they wish to watch. Check out the video below to better understand what i am describing.

Touchscreen Window for your home

At CES (Consumer Electronic Show) this year in Las Vegas, Samsung showed off there window touchscreen computer know as Samsung Smart Window. The Smart window is a window, but its a display. Its a giant transparent touchscreen window.

It only takes a few features to drive home how crazy this technology is. For instance, it comes with a blinds app. If you activate it, you can slowly open and close the digital blinds and affect the amount of actual light that comes in. It’s also a one-way mirror, meaning that you don’t have to be afraid of passersby seeing you or what’s on your screen; they’ll only see themselves. As if all that wasn’t enough, because the Samsung Smart Window doesn’t need backlight units (it uses natural light for that), it uses about 1/10th of the electricity that a standard LCD display its size would use. And in the dark, it has transparent backlight units you can use at the cost of a little more power, so you’re always covered. The window will be coming into production in the next few months according to Samsung Check out the video below.

WOW! This is just amazing, MIT develops new high speed camera that shoots a trillion frames per second. Fast enough to capture the speed of light. If you shot a bullet through the frame it would take 3 YEARS for it to go through the entire picture.

iPad 3 with Retina Display

Good news for iPad fans. The screen of iPad 3, which will has “retinal display” ability, was produced. Ready for release in the early of 2012.

The news spread from Display Search analyst Richard Shim who said that the screen production for iPad 3 has been started. Samsung, Sharp, and LG Display are three major companies which supplied the screen for Apple Inc.

It took several weeks for the screens to get into manufacturing process. Shim estimates, that the device will begin to materialize in December 2011. He said to Cnet that the product will be ready to send in January 2012, and then it will be in the worldwide market for sale in February and march 2012.

Because there is still no official information from Apple, iPad 3 will come with a 9.7 inch screen and a resolution of 2048 x 1536 pixels. It means, the pixel density reaches 264 pixels per inch. iPad 2 has only 132 pixels per inch.

If it’s true, iPad 3′s display will be much more riveting than the iPad 2. This is almost the same as the ‘Retina Display’ which is used on the iPhone 4 with a density of 360 pixels per inch.

Shim added that Apple is also interested in making the iPad with smaller screen (7.85 inches). he said that if there is market demand, he believes that in the end of 2012 Apple will release iPad 4 with 8.5 inches screen, but is highly unlikely.

Facebook to Charge for Service?

This Facebook post above has been floating around Facebook for the past few days. This is nothing more than a chain post. Facebook has not charged for their service since it began in 2004, and is currently valued at $50 billion. They will NEVER charge their more than 800 million users for their service simply because they do not need to. They reached the $50 billion mark solely from third party applications such as games and advertising. Facebook aims to stay atop the social networking world in which they would not be able to do so by charging users with competitors such as Google+ offering their social network for free.

Want iOS 5 NOW?

Hey guys Just wanted to let you know that I am now in the Apple developer program and have access to iOS 5 beta and anyone with an iphone 3gs or newer, ipod touch 4th genereation, an ipad 1 and 2 that would like to have iOS 5 now can get it from me. You can download the firmware from HERE but you will need to activate your devices UDID which allows iOS 5 to be activated through apple. It cost money to be in the developer program so i am asking $10 for me to register your UDID. If you would like to get iOS 5 just message me on facebook or in the comments below this post with your name and let me know you want it and then donate $10 to my website through the donate button on the left and in the notes put your name so i know who gave me money. DO NOT try and install iOS 5 without having your UDID registered or with will lock up your device and you wont be able to fix it.

To find out your UDID you can download a free app "UDID tool" or when you plug your device into itunes and when you click on your device. Click on where it says serial number and the UDID should show up

To install on your device you will need iTunes Beta 4 which you can get from the link i posted above.

Then you will download the correct firmware for your device but download beta 4 instead of Beta 5 because beta 5 link does not work.

once you have installed the itunes beta and downloaded the correct firmware you will start itunes and plug in your device like normal and hit sync to backup your device.

After the sync you will hold control and click on restore which will bring up a window in which you select the firmware you downloaded and then follow the process on screen

Once you have install the firmware your device will prompt you to set up iOS 5 and when it ask you if you want to set up as new device or restore from backup you select restore from backup and then select the restore that says today and _:__ time.

after you are all finished installing go to settings, general and click on software update and with will update to beta 5 over the air without having to connect to your computer.

Next Generation iPhone arriving on September 5th?

Looks like the Next generation iPhone is coming out on 5th September, just a month away from now, according to the latest rumors circulating the industry. a very solid source has tipped that the next generation iPhone will be released on 5th October on Swisscom network, A Swedish carrier. But that’s not the main story, 5th October is just the rest of the world date, but the next generation iPhone will be hitting the shelves in US on 5th September a month before the worldwide launch, tells a Senior Executive at Swisscom.
Even though it is really difficult for us to differentiate between the truth and fake here, but if its the truth then it fits in line with all the previous rumors of a September release date (though it is not global). And also the source didn’t even mention if it is going to be the iPhone 4S or the whole new iPhone 5 released on 5th September. Still there are no official words by aPPle itself but If the September 5th date is true then we will be hearing a official announcement pretty soon because September is just a month away.

Netflix raising prices for DVD rentals through mail.

Netflix has stated that they are indeed going to change their pricing structure. They are going to separate DVD and streaming plans ‘to benefit the consumer’. Here are the new prices for the Netflix plans:

$7.99 for 1 DVD out at a time
$11.99 for 2 DVDs out at a time
$7.99 for unlimited streaming (no DVDs or Blu-rays)
$15.98 for 1 DVD and unlimited streaming

According to Netflix, this was done because combining unlimited streaming and DVD rentals at a $9.99 price didn’t make financial sense. Translation: the big movie production houses are demanding more money for their content.

Pre-order's for Samsung solar powered netbook

The solar powered Samsung NC215s netbook has finally arrived, up for pre-order at Amazon.com, priced at $399. No word on when it will ship although it was supposed to arrive on July 3, a week ago.

Apple try's out iPad with translucent screen

Apple continues to express interest in developing affordable technologies that could in the near future deliver an easy-to-use augmented reality platform to its iOS devices like the iPad through the use of split-screen software techniques or transparent display screens, company filings reveal.

Augmented reality (AR) is a term used to describe a live direct or an indirect view of a physical, real-world environment whose elements are augmented by computer-generated sensory input, such as annotations, sound or graphics presented through an information layer.

In one filing published for the first time Thursday by the United States Patent and Trademark Office and discovered byAppleInsider, Apple notes that despite strong academic and commercial interest in (AR) systems, many existing implementations are complex and expensive, making them unsuitable for general use by the average consumer.

As part of its filing, Apple proposes that iPads could feature a split screen display that can be used to display an object or subject matter such as a live video feed from the tablet's camera on one side of the split, and computer-generated imagery identifying elements in that video feed on the second side of the split.

In one example shown, a user is viewing a live video of the skyline of downtown San Francisco in first display area, while object recognition is performed in real-time on a captured frame of the video to present information on the second display area, such as balloon call outs identifying the buildings or structures in the live video.

Software running on the iPad could utilize onboard positioning system such as GPS, WiFi, and Cell ID ,along with motion sensors to transmit information about the live feed to a network service, which could then spit back 3D models of recognized objects in the live feed that the user could navigate in real-time.

"For example, gyroscopes, magnetometers and other motion sensors can provide angular displacements, angular rates and magnetic readings with respect to a reference coordinate frame, and that data can be used by a real-time onboard rendering engine to generate 3D imagery of downtown San Francisco," Apple said. "If the user physically moves device, resulting in a change of the video camera view, the information layer and computer-generated imagery can be updated accordingly using the sensor data."

More specifically, the company provided an example where the user sets a marker via a pushpin on a building seen in the distance so that a driving or walking route can be computed in real-time and overlaid on the 3D computer-generated imagery to provide directions to that building from the user's current location.

Optionally, Apple added that the annotated live video, computer-generated imagery and resulting information layer can be shared via a Share Button with one or more other devices, and the AR displays of the devices can be synchronized to account for changes in video views.

While the filing proposes an AR implementation utilizing existing technologies found on the iPad (and iPhone), a second filing from the company relating to the same subject matter is slightly more ambitious in that it proposes iPads with a display screen having a viewing area with a transparent portion that enables a user to view objects behind the electronic device by looking through the display screen.

The "transparent portion may encompass the entire viewing area, or only a portion of the viewing area of the display," wrote Apple engineer Aleksandar Pance, who is the sole inventor credited to the patent application titled "Transparent Electronic Device." He added that additional implementations could call for an iPad with two or more display screens (each having respective viewing areas with transparent portions) arranged in an overlaid or back-to-back manner, or two display screens whereby one display screen is partially opaque but displays a transparent window that's movable via multitouch input from the user.

"These overlays whether in handheld or other electronic devices, may provide an 'augmented reality' interface in which the overlays virtually interact with real-world objects," Pance wrote. "For example, the overlays may be transmitted onto a display screen that overlays a museum exhibit, such as a painting. The overlay may include information relating to the painting that may be useful or interesting to viewers of the exhibit. Additionally, overlays may be utilized on displays in front of, for example, landmarks, historic sites, or other scenic locations. […] For example, a tour bus may include one or more displays as windows for users. These displays may present overlays that impart information about locations viewable from the bus.

The same filing also details a viewing routine that would allow a user to view both images and real world events simultaneously via a single display screen. For example, the viewing routine may allow for a portion of the display to be selectively transparent while the remainder of the area of the display screen is opaque.

"For example, display screen may include an in-plane switching LCD screen in which pixels of the screen default to an 'off' state that inhibits light transmission through the screen," Pance explained. "This may be accomplished by driving a voltage to zero to the pixels in an 'off' state (i.e., the pixels in an opaque region)" while "voltage could then be applied to pixels of the display screen to enable light transmission through such pixels (when desired), allowing a user to view real-world objects through the activated pixels of display screen, thus generating a window in the opaque region."

Apple said such futuristic displays screens may include an LCD having pixels that default to an "on" state allowing light transmission and which can be activated to render some or all of the pixels opaque. Alternatively, the company said that the screens could include an OLED.

Live Zoomable HD Video Of The Earth

Very few people have had the opportunity to view our beautiful planet from afar. This will soon change, Urthecast plans to provide HD streaming video of our planet, live from outer space.

The video will be available to anyone in the world with an internet connection. Users will be able to zoom in on the live video, all the way to ground level. Yes, just like Google earth, but live! Users will also be able to pause, fast forward, rewind and even tag the video stream.

Urthecast’s cameras will be installed on the International Space Station later this year. They plan to launch their HD streaming service next spring.

Folks, this is HUGE! We will be able to views Earth’s events as they unfold. We’ll be able to watch parades, wars, tsunamis, festivals and even sporting events, all live in HD! I can’t wait for this service to go live, so that I can run outside and zoom In on myself!

Sharp 70" LED tv

After wowing consumers during this year’s CES show in Las Vegas, Sharp has finally released their 70-inch LED HDTV behemoth onto the masses, in the form of the LC-70LE732U; an entry level set that is sure to give anyone looking for a new TV the itch to give it a go.

The set boasts full 1080p resolution on its LED backlit LED with a 120Hz refresh rate and a formidable dynamic contrast ratio of 6,000,000:1. Though 70-inch sounds like quite large, seeing it in person is a whole different story. Comparing it with a 55-inch set, it’s very apparent how large this TV truly is. The LC-70LE732U easily dwarfs the 55-incher with 62% more viewing space, giving consumers more than enough real estate to enjoy any blockbuster movie or the latest games. And truly, this set has the gamer in mind with its proprietary Vyper Drive technology that enhances games by reducing lag times. Essentially, the TV allows a gaming console to handle all of the video decoding, thus eliminating the need for the TV to do it again, and resulting in faster gameplay.

With many manufacturers now including WiFi technology in newer TVs, this set is no different. However, consumers will be glad to know that this unit doesn’t need any WiFi dongles to work, but rather the WiFi is built into the TV. Sharp has added over 200 widgets that can be accessed via WiFi, with such favorites as Twitter, Pandora, Netflix and Cinema Now being included. Another great use for WiFi was a customer support option that easily impressed. Sharp has added the AQUOS Advantage Live feature which is an online support system that lets consumers get immediate assistance with issues plaguing their TV. Technicians can essentially take control of the TV to make any necessary adjustments to get things rolling again. Of course this doesn’t mean if the TV short circuits, that can be fixed on the spot, but it’s a cool feature that will surely help owners to get help for easy-to-fix problems. Concerned with a fee for the service? Not to worry, the service is included for free for the lifetime of the TV.

The TV also includes 4HDMI ports, 1 PC input and 1 Optical Output, while also being IP-control ready and is DNLA enabled to allow for streaming wirelessly from a PC. 2 USB ports will also be found which support DIVX HD, standard video and photo viewing.

Sharp uses its Quattron technology for this set, which adds a yellow sub-pixel to the usual RGB (red/green/blue) scheme. Yellow is used as a color agent to mix with magenta and cyan and reproduces a wider range of colors. While watching Iron Man 2 on Blu-ray, you could also see how well yellows and golds stood out; gold specifically having a nice looking shine to it.

Picture quality in general was pretty decent considering it’s not a high-end TV and is a 70-inch LED. For a TV of this size, I’d recommend sitting back at least 20 feet, though more would be best. Sitting too close makes things like minor artifacts and noise appear worse. Contrast was good, giving ample black reproduction even in night scenes, though the picture seemed a bit washed out overall, even with high picture settings. Though most consumers will be content with how the LC-70LE732U performs, it still doesn’t compare to other LED TVs such as Samsung’s line which offers much greater detail.

As for the TV’s remote, it also has programmable controls for a DVD player, satellite and audio device. There are also three color-coded buttons near the bottom that allow users to select their three favorite apps/widgets to activate on the fly. However, the remote is not backlit, save for the device buttons near the top which is a bummer since a TV of this size would be enjoyed best with the lights turned off.

Not surprisingly, the TV can be mounted and only weighs about 121.3 pounds with the base and 114.6 pounds without it. Due to the sheer size of the set however, we’d recommend using a mount that has dual arms to support it properly.

Overall, the LC-70LE732U is a formidable, entry-level TV and should be enticing to consumers with its $3299 price tag – a bargain for something that large. To get the best performance out of a set like this, we’d also recommend hiring a technician to perform a proper calibration which will not only add more lifespan to the TV but increase the picture quality, regardless of the type of lighting in a room. Retail stores such as Best Buy offer such a service for around $199 from an ISF certified tech.

While there are better looking HDTVs on the market, it will be tough to find something of this size for the price, making it a very tempting option.

Sharp tells us a higher-end model is in the works with a 3D version being a possibility sometime down the line.

Apple iOS 5, iCloud unveiled

Today was the WWDC conference presented by Apple. They showed off the new Mac OS 10 Lion and iCloud, but my main focus of this post is iOS 5 with some of its 200 new features including the new notification system. Below are pictures from the conference and i will be giving a small description of the picture below each picture....

Swiping down from the top brings down the notification center.

Now you don't have annoying notification pop up that stops what you are doing to close it, instead you get a nice little window at top that displays the message without interfering with anything you are doing.

iOS 5 also gives you information on your lock screen that you can access by swiping the specific message and i believe it will also display weather on the lock screen.

There is also now a camera button on the lock screen so you can jump instantly into the camera app without unlocking your phone. This will make it much quicker to take photos on the fly

You can now take pictures using the volume-up button

Now you can text directly from an iPod touch and iPad that syncs to your phone. You can start a conversation with a friend on your iPhone and you can switch to your iPod or iPad and the conversation will be on the other devices where you left off.

iCloud is just like all the other cloud applications from Microsoft and google with one major difference, IT'S FREE. That's right I said free, Apple is offering their cloud service for free to all iOS user. iCloud works by storing your information and documents on their servers. When you take a photo on your iPhone it will automatically send the video to all your iCloud devices. Works with other application like calender, contacts, mail and will also work with 3rd party applications, so when you download an application on your iPhone it will automatically download that same application on your iPad at no extra charge

iOS 5.0 set to be unveiled next week

Apple has just confirmed that its new mobile operating system iOS 5.0 will be announced at a keynote address during the company’s Worldwide Developers Conference next week.

The keynote will be presented by Steve Jobs and a team of Apple executives. Also set for the stage is new Mac OS X Lion, the eighth version of the company’s operating system. iCloud, Apple’s new cloud service offering, will also be detailed at WWDC.

The conference will feature a series of technical sessions from Apple engineers designed to help developers make the most of the new systems. It’s unlikely that new hardware will feature.

the keynote takes place on June 6th at 10am in the US, or 6pm BST, which clashes with Microsoft’s E3 press conference.

Whether this is nothing more than coincidence or a deliberate move by Apple is unclear, but it’s certain to grab some attention from its rival, particularly if Jobs decides to discuss what these new operating systems can do for games on Apple’s services.

Apple App store passes 500,000 app mark

Apple’s iOS App store has just crossed the golden figure of 500,000 apps after combining the apps of iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. This milestone was compiled by 148Apps, Chomp, Chillingo and was posted in the form of a huge and interesting infographic to enlighten us on some of the milestones and trends on the way to the golden mark.
In January, Apple announced that they’ve reached the 350,000 mark and in about four months, they’ve achieved another 150,000 which is a milestone in itself. Games, Entertainment, Books, Education makes up the half of the milestone, which is a bi thing and almost 37% of the apps currently available on the app store are free.

If these numbers are accurate, then it suggests that the paid apps have generated about $34.3 billion dollars in revenue, i.e. 63% of 15 billion downloads as paid apps times average price of $3.64. Amazing when you think this market never even existed 4 years ago. These revenue numbers alone are worthy of a headline story.

Lady Gaga crashes Amazon Music site

What initially appeared to be a marketing move for Amazon’s music sales and the launch of its Cloud Player service now appears to have blown up in the company’s face. Initially, the music world was stunned to learn that Lady Gaga’s much anticipated second album was for sale on Amazon for the ultra low price of $0.99 cents, compared to $11.99 on iTunes. The loss leading price was thought to be a means of promoting Amazon’s new Cloud Player service and left many initially impressed with the strategy. However, it’s rock n’ roll in dispersed with technology and sure enough, things went tits up. In essence Amazon couldn’t handle the traffic, ensuring that downloads of the album were delayed, leaving fans unable to acquire the whole album after purchase.

Amazon issued a statement saying “Amazon is experiencing high volume and downloads are delayed. If customers order today, they will get the full Lady Gaga, Born This Way album for $0.99. Thanks for your patience.” However, the damage may have been done because fans are already giving the album one star reviews as a protest against the album download difficulties. It’s also likely to affect the take up of Amazon’s Cloud Player service, as punters go running back to iTunes where they may pay more for their music, but they’re guaranteed to be able to download it and store it.

It seems Fujitsu's got a thing for morphing PCs. Now the outfit's short-listed this deja-vu-inducing transformer for its 2011 "Life with Future Computing Award." The Flexbook, designed by Hao-Chun Huang, features a foldable 21:9 touchscreen and similarly flexible keyboard that allow its users to switch from laptop to tablet to book-like e-reader. It's also been designed to sport a number of interchangeable sleeves in a array of colors and patterns. It might have seemed impractical five years ago, but with convertibles coming of age, I'd say the Flexbook isn't really all that far out.

White iPhone 4 now available!

Apple has finally released the long awaited white iPhone 4 after months of speculation, rumors and teases. You can get your white iPhone 4 at Apple Store retailers AT&T, Verizon Wireless stores and select retailers. The white iPhone 4 will be available for $199 for the 16 GB version and $299 for the 32 GB version with a new 2-year agreement.

Outside of the colors, consumers will not see any other major changes to the device.

The day has finally come and technology has once again taken a massive leap forward with the creation of 2D glasses. Yep, that’s right, 2D not 3D. Some people get headaches when watching 3D movies and others just flat out hate 3D. The simple solution would be to just not buy the more expensive 3D ticket and 2D glasses, but there are some people who get dragged to 3D movies by their friends or whoever, and I can somewhat understand how these glasses could be helpful for those that get headaches from 3D.

2D glasses allow any RealD 3D movie to be viewed as if it is a normal two-dimensional movie and can be purchased for $7.99 plus $2.00 shipping here. Here’s how they work:

When you watch a 3D movie, there are actually two images being projected onto the screen. That’s why the screen is blurry when you look at it without glasses. In 3D glasses one of the lenses blocks one image and the other lens blocks the other image.

Thus, when you watch a 3D movie each of your eyes is seeing a slightly different image. Your brain combines those images together, creating the illusion of a 3D image.

2D Glasses block the same image with both lenses, so each eye gets the same picture resulting in a 2D image and an elimination of eyeball strain.
