Ahmedabad: The Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) on Wednesday carried out a demolition drive at Juhapura Crossroads to remove encroachments for the construction of an elevated corridor on the Vishala–Sarkhej National Highway.

According to the AMC, the South West Zone Estate and Urban Development Department undertook the demolition in Maktampura (Ward 34) after the occupants failed to voluntarily remove portions of their commercial properties that fell within the 7.5-metre Town Planning (TP) road line required for the project.

The civic body said the action targeted portions of Juhapura Bhajiya House and other commercial buildings located at the crossroads. A total of eight commercial units, covering around 3,874 square feet from the ground floor to the second floor, were demolished.

The demolition was carried out using two heavy demolition vehicles, a Hitachi excavator, two breakers, a gas cutter and around 20 labourers deployed by a private contractor.

AMC officials said the clearance was necessary to facilitate the elevated corridor project being executed by the National Highways Authority. DeshGujarat

Ahmedabad: The Food Department of the Amdavad Municipal Corporation’s (AMC) Health Department carried out extensive inspections of food business establishments across different zones and ward areas of the city under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, a press release said.

Between June 1 and June 30, 2026, the civic body’s food safety teams collected a total of 709 food samples. These included 22 samples of cold beverages (juice, lassi, ice cream, sherbet, shikanji and ice balls), 35 samples of sugarcane juice, mango milkshake and watermelon juice, 121 samples of cheese, milk and milk products, 28 samples of sweets, 26 bakery products, 73 salt samples, 37 samples of gram flour, flour and grains, 37 edible oil samples, 101 spice samples, and 229 samples from other food categories.

Of the sample reports received during the month, 46 samples were found to be either unsafe or substandard. Of these, two samples were declared unsafe, and court cases will be filed against the concerned food business operators under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. The remaining 44 samples were declared substandard, and cases will be filed before the Adjudicating Officer.

During the same period, AMC inspected 1,877 food business units across the city. A total of 545 notices were issued for violations of food safety norms. The authorities also destroyed around 2,748 kg and 1,269 litres of unfit food items. In addition, an administrative penalty of Rs. 10,29,500 was recovered, while 387 TPC (Total Polar Compounds) tests were conducted to check the quality of cooking oil.

The corporation has introduced a QR code-based feedback system to enable citizens to rate the cleanliness and hygiene standards of street food vendors and lari-galla units. Each registered vendor has been assigned a unique QR code, which customers can scan to submit feedback. AMC uses this feedback to monitor vendors and improve the quality of street food across the city.

So far, more than 10,000 street vendors have been registered under the initiative, and the civic body continues to receive public feedback on their services.

Based on public ratings, the current top five vendors include Facebook Panipuri near Anand Party Plot in Sardarnagar, Agarwal Kachori Centre near Delhi Darwaza in Shahibaug, Krishna Pakodi Centre near Jeevan Super Market in Ramol, Taste of South opposite Gujarati School in Vatwa, and Jai Kishan Pakodi Centre opposite Bhagwati Jewellers in Khokhara.

AMC said all registered food business operators are issued QR codes, and action is taken against those who fail to maintain the prescribed standards. Food business operators who have not yet registered have been urged to do so.

During the month, the Food Department also seized 450 kg of parcel lime, valued at Rs. 22,500, and 508 kg of Rifa Kapasia, valued at Rs. 73,660.

The civic body sealed four food business units during the month for violations of food safety norms.

On June 3, Munna Chinese and Mughlai, located at Al Aswad Shopping Centre near Sonal Cinema Road in Maktampura, was sealed due to unhygienic conditions and violations of Schedule 4 provisions.

On June 6, a coffee stall near Vijay Char Rasta in Navrangpura was sealed after pests were found inside the kitchen and violations of Schedule 4 norms were detected.

On June 10, Shri Matangi Dairy and Food Products, near Hinglaj Mata Temple in Kathwada, was sealed for operating without a valid food safety licence, maintaining unhygienic conditions and violating Schedule 4 requirements.

On June 20, Shri Vrishti Trading, a parcel lime business unit near Riyasat Party Plot in Kathwada, was sealed for operating without a licence under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, and for maintaining unhygienic conditions.

AMC said it will continue intensive inspections of food business establishments in the coming days to verify hygiene standards, licences and registrations. It warned that any unit found operating without a valid licence or registration, or violating food safety norms, will face strict action under the Food Safety and Standards Act and the GPMC Act.
Addressing the media after the state Cabinet meeting, government spokesperson and Minister Jitubhai Vaghani said that the Government of India has fixed the MSP for summer moong for the 2025-26 marketing season at Rs. 8,768 per quintal. Whenever the market price falls below the MSP, the crop is procured under the Price Support Scheme (PSS) of the Centre’s PM-AASHA scheme to protect farmers from financial losses.

The minister said that a total of 14,383 farmers from across the state have registered to sell their summer moong at the MSP. To facilitate procurement, the state has set up 51 purchase centres.

The registered farmers will be informed about the procurement schedule through SMS. After receiving the message, they will have to report to their allotted purchase centre with the specified quantity of moong.

For the 2025-26 season, summer moong will be procured based on the cultivated area of each farmer, considering a productivity of 1,200 kg per hectare. However, the maximum procurement limit has been fixed at 1,500 kg (75 maunds) per farmer. DeshGujarat

Ahmedabad: The Gujarat Medical Council (GMC) has suspended the registrations of three dermatologists from the state for 13 months over alleged professional misconduct linked to an industry-sponsored foreign trip.

The doctors, Dr Jagdishkumar Sakhiya and Dr Ami Shah from Surat, and Dr Geeta Patel from Ahmedabad, were among 30 medical professionals from nine states who attended international conferences in Paris and Monaco in 2024. Their travel and hospitality expenses were allegedly borne by biotech firm AbbVie Healthcare India Pvt Ltd.

It is learnt that this is among the rare instances where disciplinary action has been taken against doctors over industry-sponsored overseas trips. The issue came under scrutiny after the National Medical Commission (NMC) found that doctors from Gujarat, Maharashtra, Telangana, Punjab, Karnataka, West Bengal, Delhi, Assam and Kerala had allegedly accepted travel and hospitality benefits worth more than Rs. 1 lakh per participant from the pharmaceutical company.

In its order dated June 30, the GMC stated that accepting such benefits amounted to a violation of Clause 6.8 of the Indian Medical Council (Professional Conduct, Etiquette and Ethics) Regulations, 2002. The council said the decision was taken after considering the provisions of the Uniform Code of Pharmaceutical Marketing Practices (2014 and 2024), the 2002 ethics regulations, and resolutions passed by the GMC’s general body and executive committee.

Sources said the three doctors were issued show-cause notices and were given an opportunity to present their case. They submitted their responses and supporting documents on January 8 and June 29 before the final order was passed.

Under the suspension order, the doctors will not be permitted to practise medicine in Gujarat or exercise any rights or privileges arising from their medical registration during the 13-month suspension period. Their registrations may be restored after the suspension ends, subject to compliance with the relevant provisions of the law and rules. DeshGujarat

A linear garden, developed on a PPP model at a cost of Rs. 12 crore, has been built over an area of 18,000 square metres between Ellis Bridge and Nehru Bridge. The garden is now awaiting inauguration.

The linear heritage garden has been developed on the eastern side of the Sabarmati Riverfront, adjacent to the heritage wall between Ellis Bridge and Nehru Bridge. It has been built by the U. N. Mehta Foundation.

One of the key attractions of the garden is a display of replicas of coins and currency notes that were once in circulation in Ahmedabad. A gazebo has also been constructed to recreate the atmosphere of the cultural shows that were once held on the banks of the Sabarmati River.

The garden also features walking tracks, children’s play equipment, seating areas for senior citizens, landscaped footpaths and other visitor amenities, making it an attractive recreational space for morning walkers and families. DeshGujarat

Gandhinagar: To encourage students preparing for the UPSC Civil Services Examination, the state government has significantly increased the rates of incentive assistance for candidates studying at SPIPA (Sardar Patel Institute of Public Administration) and its approved training centres. The new revised rates have come into effect from July 1.

As per the new provision, candidates preparing for the preliminary examination will now be given assistance of up to Rs. 4,000 per month. In addition, candidates who succeed at each stage of the UPSC examination, preliminary, main and interview, will also be given different financial incentives.

Under the new scheme, boys who pass the preliminary examination will get assistance of Rs. 35,000 and girls Rs. 50,000, while boys who pass the main examination will get assistance of Rs. 45,000 and girls Rs. 55,000. Boys who secure final selection in the UPSC will get assistance of Rs. 75,000, while girls will be given Rs. 1 lakh.

In this way, by combining the assistance for all stages, boys will be eligible for a total of Rs. 1.55 lakh, while girls will be eligible for incentive assistance of up to Rs. 2.05 lakh. The state government believes that this decision will provide great support to economically weaker but talented students in their preparation for prestigious competitive examinations like the UPSC, and that more candidates from Gujarat will be able to secure a place in the country’s highest civil services.

Meanwhile, SPIPA Deputy Director General Chandresh Kotak, while clarifying the scheme, said that the incentive assistance for each stage of the preliminary, main and interview examinations will be given to a candidate only once. If a candidate does not succeed in the final selection after reaching the interview stage and reaches the interview stage again in the next attempt, they will not receive the preliminary and main assistance again. However, they will be eligible to receive the incentive assistance for the interview stage again. DeshGujarat

Two different samples of paneer have been taken and sent to the laboratory for testing. The investigation revealed that the factory was running illegally without any kind of food licence, and the entire unit has been sealed.

The Municipal Corporation has also issued a notice to the factory operator, Prakashbhai Harsoda, imposing a fine of Rs. 10,000. The officials are now conducting a detailed investigation into where the paneer was brought from and what kind of substances were mixed in it.

The Chief Health Officer of the Municipal Corporation, Dr. Jayesh Vankani, said that an intensive inspection campaign is being conducted against units manufacturing and selling dairy products, especially paneer and analogue paneer, in Rajkot city. The food safety team is inspecting hygiene and food safety standards in various areas.

He said that a special campaign was conducted against paneer units in the city from June 25 to July 1. During this period, three units were sealed on June 25, three more on June 29, and one unit on June 30. The action on Morbi Road is also part of the same campaign.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that the paneer seized from Morbi Road was ordered from a company located in the Satellite area of Ahmedabad. It has been found that the company has an FSSAI licence to manufacture analogue paneer, along with the related bills. However, it has come to light that in Rajkot, cubes of this analogue paneer are being sold loose as pure milk paneer without any kind of licence, thereby cheating customers. For this reason, action has been taken to seal the factory.

Dr. Vankani said that analogue paneer is not real paneer made from milk, but is usually prepared from vegetable oil or foreign fat. Its consumption does not provide the body with the necessary milk protein, while increasing the intake of unnecessary fat. In the long run, its consumption can cause several health problems, including obesity.

He further said that continuous consumption of such paneer can adversely affect the development of children and may lead to hormonal imbalance. Apart from this, the risk of serious diseases such as heart disease, blocked arteries, hypertension and diabetes can also increase.

The health department has also instructed all hotels, restaurants, dhabas and paneer sellers in the city to clearly display boards at their places of business informing customers whether they serve milk paneer or analogue paneer. If such display boards are not found during the next inspection, strict legal action, including sealing, will be taken against the concerned traders. DeshGujarat

Surat: The onset of July has brought widespread rain-bearing clouds to Gujarat, with the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing red, orange and yellow alerts for heavy rainfall in different parts of the state over the next five days.

As per the IMD bulletin, heavy to very heavy rain with isolated extremely heavy falls is very likely in the South Gujarat districts of Surat, Navsari and Valsad, as well as in Daman, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, during the next 24 hours. A red alert has been issued for these areas. Additionally, an orange alert, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall, has been issued for Narmada, Bharuch, Tapi, Dang, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Gir Somnath and Diu. Meanwhile, a yellow alert for heavy rain has been issued for Vadodara and Chhota Udepur, and the Saurashtra districts of Rajkot and Junagadh during this period.

On July 2, a red alert will remain in place for Surat, Dang, Navsari, Valsad and Daman, Dadra and Nagar Haveli. An orange alert has been issued for Narmada, Bharuch, Tapi, Amreli and Bhavnagar, while the rest of Gujarat will remain under a yellow warning for rain and thunderstorms.

On July 3, Dang, Tapi, Navsari, Valsad and Daman, Dadra and Nagar Haveli will continue under a red alert, while Narmada, Bharuch, Surat, Amreli and Bhavnagar will be under an orange alert. The rest of the state will remain under a yellow warning for rain and thunderstorms.

On July 4, only Narmada, Tapi and Dang will be under a red alert, with the likelihood of extremely heavy rainfall. Chhota Udepur, Bharuch, Surat, Navsari, Valsad, Daman, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Amreli and Bhavnagar will remain under an orange alert.

On July 5, Dang, Tapi and Valsad will continue under a red alert, while Narmada, Navsari, Amreli and Bhavnagar will be under an orange alert. Additionally, the entire state will remain under a yellow warning for moderate thunderstorms with lightning and surface winds of 40–50 kmph, accompanied by light to moderate rain.

Thereafter, the intensity of the rainfall is expected to subside slightly, with no red alerts issued for July 6 and 7. However, Dang, Navsari, Valsad, Tapi and Daman, Dadra and Nagar Haveli will remain under an orange alert for very heavy rainfall. Meanwhile, Vadodara, Chhota Udepur, Narmada, Bharuch and Surat, along with the Saurashtra districts of Amreli and Bhavnagar, will remain under a yellow alert with the possibility of heavy rain.

According to the IMD, the active weather conditions are being driven by multiple favourable synoptic systems across the region. On July 1, the southwest monsoon advanced further into more parts of Gujarat, covering additional areas of the state along with the entire Daman and Diu region. The monsoon has also progressed into more parts of the North Arabian Sea, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, and parts of Haryana and Punjab.

The weather office said conditions remain favourable for the monsoon to advance further into the remaining parts of Gujarat and adjoining regions over the next two days.

Several weather systems are contributing to the enhanced rainfall activity. An offshore trough extending from south Gujarat to Karnataka continues to remain active, while the seasonal monsoon trough stretching from Punjab to the North Bay of Bengal also persists. In addition, an upper air cyclonic circulation over Saurashtra and its neighbourhood is supporting rainfall over parts of the state.

The IMD has also indicated that an upper air cyclonic circulation over the North Bay of Bengal is likely to develop into a low pressure area around July 3. A trough extending from this system to the northeast Arabian Sea across Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra and Gujarat is expected to further strengthen monsoon activity over western India.

The department added that southwesterly to westerly winds prevailing over Gujarat at lower levels are creating favourable conditions for widespread rainfall across the state over the coming days. DeshGujarat

Gandhinagar: The Gujarat government has introduced the ‘Health Passport’, a first-of-its-kind initiative to make healthcare services for children and adolescents smarter, more sustainable, and family- and child-friendly.

Under School Health – Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (SHRBSK), the Health Passport will be the master document containing each child’s complete medical history. It will include the child’s basic details along with a comprehensive record of age-specific health check-ups from birth to 18 years of age.

The passport will also track the four key health categories (4Ds) under SH-RBSK: Defects at Birth, Deficiencies, Childhood Diseases, Developmental Delays, and Disabilities. Plus, it will record details of the child’s physical and mental growth and development, nutritional status, referral services, nutrition and health guidance, lifestyle advice, and emergency helpline numbers. The statewide initiative was launched on 27th June, 2026, by the Union Minister for Home Affairs and Cooperation, Amit Shah.

1.89 Crore Children to Receive ‘Health Passports’; 992 Mobile Health Teams to Support the Initiative

Under SH-RBSK, around 1.89 crore children in Gujarat undergo annual health check-ups conducted by 992 mobile health teams. While the records of these check-ups are currently maintained on a digital portal, parents and children do not have a handy document that can be readily used during routine consultations, medical treatment, or follow-up visits. The ‘Health Passport’ has been introduced to bridge this gap by providing every child with a systematic, comprehensive, and easily accessible record of their health history.

Simple and Hassle-Free Process for Health Passport; Issued at the Screening Site Without Additional Documents

The process to get a ‘Health Passport’ is simple and convenient. Parents do not need to provide any additional documents to get a Health Passport for their children. Health screenings will be conducted by SH-RBSK mobile health teams at Anganwadis, schools, madrasas, gurukuls, and special schools. Post-screening, once the child’s details are entered into the digital platform, the Health Passport will be issued at the screening site itself. The renewal process is even easier. Health Passports of children up to five years of age and those not attending school will be renewed annually by the Medical Officer (MO) of the Primary Health Centre (PHC), while Health Passports of school-going children will be renewed by the school principal.

The biggest strength of this initiative is its digital integration. While the physical Health Passport will remain with parents, all information will be synchronised with the SH-RBSK digital portal, ensuring seamless record management. If the physical Health Passport is lost or damaged, a new copy can be obtained from the mobile health team. DeshGujarat
