Mozilla on Monday gave its Boot 2 Gecko mobile platform a new name, Firefox OS. Designed as an alternative to Windows Phone or Google's Android, Firefox Mobile OS is built on an infrastructure based on the HTML5 web standard. As a result, devices based on Firefox Mobile OS will be uniquely accessible to developers in a way most smartphone platforms are not.

The introduction of the open mobile OS continues the Mozilla mission to promote openness, innovation and opportunity on the Web for users and developers. As billions of users are expected to come online for the first time in the coming years, it is important to deliver a compelling smartphone experience that anyone can use," claimed Gary Kovacs, chief executive of Mozilla, at the announcement. "The large number of operators and manufacturers now supporting this effort will bring additional resources and diversity to our global offerings."

Google Penguin

Penguin launched late last month with the purpose of weeding out what Google considers over-optimized sites from the natural search results. That is, sites that attempt to game the search algorithms by incorporating excess on- and off-page SEO factors. this algorithm is programmed to penalize websites undertaking black hat SEO tactics and those with otherwise low-quality content.

Introduction of SEO:

Search engine optimization (SEO) is the process of improving the volume of traffic to a web site from search engines via natural search results and getting listed higher in search results.
