These were so easy to hang and they create the perfect Halloween vibe above my kitchen island.

I ordered these candles from Amazon. They require 2 AAA batteries each and come with a remote and timer so you can extend the life of your batteries.

I simply tied fishing line around the bottom of the flame and tied the other end to my ladder. Be sure to hang at varying heights. You can easily attach the line to command hooks, flat push pins or tape on your ceiling. The candles are not too heavy so the weight shouldn’t be a problem. They are real wax and look fabulous!

We have a semi large blended family now. This means more mouths to get to feed at our holiday gatherings. I was short a few place setting and didn’t realize it until the week of Christmas. Amazon to the rescue! I literally ordered these adorable place settings 3 days before Christmas! Next day shipping saves me again! They were easy, beautiful, matched my color theme this year and even disposable! I never do disposable for Christmas or Thanksgiving but these were so pretty I wanted to try them. I took a VERY long break from posting here (4 years to be exact!) but it’s time to start it up again!

Starting with my 2021 Christmas decor-

Christmas is my favorite time of year and I come from a long line of Christmas decorating lovers! 😜 My grandfather used to collect village pieces and spend weeks every year setting up his villages. He would create the most realistic towns which included streets, driveways, walkways and even rivers! He would open his home to people from all over town to come and tour his setup… and they came! He even won several awards for his displays. (Something you would likely only find possible in a small rural town like the one I grew up in.)

So it goes without saying, my Mom, her sister and most of the grandkids inherited the love of creating part of the Christmas spirit thru our decorating.

Fall decorating!

The air is turning a bit more crisp and the leaves are beginning to change! YAY FALL!

Time to pull out the sweaters and warms, cozy blankets and autumnize your surroundings.

I am such a huge "sensory" person so when the seasons change, the smells, sounds and sights change around my house as well.

Scent-

Start with a fall candle, wax melt or plug in. Scent has such an impact on your mood. I never thought my husband noticed some of these things but after being gone for a bit, he came home to all of the fall scents at home and instantly said, "I can't wait for the fall parties!". Love it!

One of my favorites is the pumpkin scents from Bath and Body Works. (Not promoting for them. Just my own opinion.)

Interior-

If you have a large or even small surface in your entry, it's the perfect place to decorate for fall. Grab anything orange, brown, green, deep yellow or red. Once the leaves fall, grab some of those too! Use things that are difference shapes and sizes. Play with it a bit and group things in odd numbers. You'll be surprised how things pull together. Of course, you can always contact me for some fall decor items! :) But be creative! Bring in things from outside, old windows, tins, etc.

Mums and cabbage!

It doesn't take much to bring a little Fall home. A few carefully placed mums and cabbages make a huge impact and are beautiful. Don't throw out all of your summer flowers. As long as a freeze doesn't sneak up on you, just edit the sad looking plants and replace them with the mums and cabbages. This will keep the budget low and you will have a full planter for several more weeks!

Once the summer plantings start to die back, just replace them with pumpkins and gourds!

Here are some pictures of my porches. Not overkill {for now}. Just a touch of fall for Sept. I change everything out for Halloween and again for Thanksgiving so I ease into it. :)

A great transition tip!

Fall foliage can be used thru Thanksgiving. If you are careful, you can add faux fall foliage to your live plants and add to it through the fall holidays. Just do not over do it and use plants that look semi real. Nothing is tackier than those ugly plastic plants! Just blend them into the real foliage and viola! Instant beauty!

Not just the foliage but decorative items can be used all season long. You can change out things here and there for Halloween and Thanksgiving without having to change everything! Keep the base of your decorative items neutral. For instance, table runners, garland, etc.

Seattle is the best place to be this time of year! There is blue and green EVERYWHERE! Seattle love's their Hawks! I may or may not have the FEVER!

Just a little somethin' I made for myself. Yes, I made some vinyl decals to dress up these puppies! A little glue, glitter and Shelac and BAM! (Tutorial Below)

So you want to make your own glitter shoes? Here's how. (Smooth material works best.)

-If you are going to apply a decal to your shoe, make sure it is exterior grade vinyl. (AND I can help you that! :)

-Clean the surface of the shoe with rubbing alcohol to remove any residue or dirt. (Just the area where you will be applying the vinyl.) Next, apply your decal.

Time to add the bling!

-Grab some EXTERIOR Modge Podge and apply it with a small paint brush. Work with ONE area at a time. If you are doing multiple colors it is best to work with one color at a time so that your colors don't get mixed. I used 2 different sized brushes. A really fine one to go around the decals and a larger one for the open areas. Take care not to get glue on the decal. If you do just wipe it of with a Q-tip. Don't fret if you find glitter stuck to the decal, you can carefully scrape it off with your nail. DO NOT apply your decal on top of the glitter. IT WON'T STICK!

-Once you apply your glue, sprinkle your glitter over the area. BE SURE YOU HAVE A PAPER TO CATCH THE EXTRA GLITTER. (This way you can pour the excess glitter back in the jar to use again.)

-Move to the next area that will be the same color and repeat. Do this until you have completed all of the areas that you want to cover with your first color.

-Repeat with each color.

-Let the Modge Podge dry overnight and seal it the next day with shellac.

Viola! Custom glitter shoes!

Christmas Decor 2013

Ahhh! I am almost there! I have been working the last week to get my Christmas Decor up because beginning next Monday I will be decorating OTHER peoples homes. :)

We have a tradition in our family after all of the Thanksgiving festivities come to an end, we go outside and do the Chevy Chase Christmas lighting! No lights on until then, but I work hard to have everything ready for the big lighting event.

Here are a few photos of what I have done so far.

This year I did my tree in Turquoise, blue, gold, champagne, black and bits of red!

This was something I just did today! I love chalkboard art on walls but my walls are pretty textured so I compromised. I designed this vinyl to look like chalkboard art and then drew over the outside of the letters so that it gives the appearance of chalk! I love it!

This was a new one this year too! I made the "JOY" sign. I went to Hobby Lobby and picked up the wooden letters for only $3.50 each. I came home and drilled holes through the letters where I wanted the lights to go. (I started with a small bit and worked up to a size that the lights would fit snuggly into. Thi.s was I didn't make them too big to begin with) Most of the lights fit tight enough that I didn't have to glue them but there were a few that I dabbed some hot glue onto.

Next, I glittered the letters by painting on Modge Podge and sprinkling glitter over the entire surface. Once it dried I pushed my lights through the holes and VIOLA!!! I wired them to my garland and added some twisted braches with icicle hanging from them. Woohoo!

Here is my bedroom. I just added a little bit of garland at the Headboard to bring in some Holiday cheer. :)
