2011 Design for Direct Digital Manufacturing Competition

Design a product that illustrates the benefits and impact of direct digital manufacturing. For 2011, student designers are encouraged to use their imagination to design a product intended to be, or be part of, a system that utilizes direct digital manufacturing (DDM) in features. The product must be able to be used in another assembly. It will need to be fabricated mainly using DDM processes.

Brief: Heat, Me-Heat, Re-Heat – Objects designed to harness heat.

The Faces of Design Awards 2011

Brief: Submit your existing portfolio.
Prizes: This design competition is based on your existing portfolio, and culminates in the publication of a printed volume, showcasing the 25 most promising design talents, by design discipline (e.g. graphic, interior or fashion design). This collection of profiles will be distributed to over 1.000 key decision makers at more than 300 companies, including firms such as vitra, IKEA, the Richemont Group (including prestigious brands such as Montblanc, Cartier and Chloé), designers’ studios such as the Campanas’ and Bouroullecs’, and the design press.

INDIA Future of Change Design Contest

The winning design will be built for a school for refugee children along the border of Thailand and Burma (Myanmar).

Anno is an online student design competition covering the disciplines of advertising, architecture, fashion design, graphic design, illustration, industrial design and photography. The competition is open to anyone currently studying in any of these categories at a tertiary level.

At the end of each month the top 25 ranked works will be archived for inclusion in the quarterly judging. The winning works from the semi-finals, will be featured in the Anno Annual 2010. The annual will be available for purchase online and at bookstores worldwide. The top work for the frst month, as chosen by our select judging panel, will be featured in a digital exhibition at Melbourne’s Federation Square during The State of Design Festival.

All you have to do is comment on this post before 12 midnight AEST on Friday 16 April 2010 and you will go into the running to win one of the prizes (note: winners will have to be in Melbourne on April 26 (for In Conversation) or April 28 (Advantage) 2010 to be able to take advantage of their prize).

The competition is open exclusively to design students enrolled in an Icsid Member School at no fee. Industrial design students are encouraged to collaborate with other design disciplines in entering the competition.

The winning designer will have his/her poster utilised as the official World Industrial Design Day 2010 poster. This entails having the poster exhibited at numerous events throughout the world and in all corresponding online and print media

The DIA invites Australian and New Zealand tertiary design institutes to nominate their top student design projects that reflect design excellence and adopt innovative Sustainable Design principles.

Now in its 15th year, the DIA presents the ASDA in conjunction with designEX. Entries will be judged and displayed at this premier interior architecture and design exhibition which attracts over 20,000 Australian and International design professionals.

The ASDA prize pool includes cash prizes, travel scholarships, art & design supplies, DIA memberships and ASDA certificates.

These Awards are open to all Australian and New Zealand full time equivalent or apprentice undergraduate students, currently studying or
recently graduated in 2nd semester 2009 or 1st semester 2010.

The James Dyson Award is again searching for ingenious student designs and inventions.

The James Dyson Award is an international design award that celebrates, encourages and inspires the next generation of designers and engineers. It’s run by the James Dyson Foundation, James Dyson’s charitable trust, as part of its mission to inspire young people about design engineering. The James Dyson Award aims to support a large number of students by globally promoting great ideas and recognizing good quality entries.

PRIZES

There will be one International Winner, and one National Winner in each country participating in the James Dyson Award 2010. The prizes the Winners and Finalists will receive include -

International Winner:
- £10,000 for the student or student team
- £10,000 for the student’s university department
- The opportunity to visit the Dyson facilities in either the UK or Malaysia
- A trophy from the James Dyson Foundation

Two International Finalists:
- The opportunity to visit the Dyson facilities in either the UK or Malaysia.

The 2010 Premier’s Sustainability Awards recognise and reward Victorian businesses, institutions, communities and individuals that demonstrate outstanding leadership and contribute to a more sustainable future for our state. Sustainable organisations do things better, smarter and more productively while reducing their everyday environmental impacts.

The eight award categories for 2010 are: large business, small business, community, products or services, built environment, local government, state government, tertiary education.  The Premier’s Recognition Award will also be awarded to the standout winner of the eight award categories.
