TECHNIQUE

The classic della rhobia design gets a casual twist for the extended holidays.

TOOLS AND MATERIALS

Design Master Sprays - 24KT PURE GOLD - Deep Reed Basket - 4 Artificial Spruce Sprays - 2 Silk Holly Sprays - Artifical Fruit Assortment of Yellow Pears, Oranges, Grape Clusters - Assorted Sizes Glass Ball Ornaments in Purple, Red, Burgundy, Bronze - Pine Cones - Stryrofoam - Wire Clippers - Wired Wood Picks - Hot Glue, Glue Gun - Latex Gloves - Paper Towel

TECHNIQUE

Protect surrounding work area from overspray with newspaper. Heavily spray an area of the basket with 24KT Pure Gold.

With glove protected hands and paper towel, IMMEDIATELY wipe the gold spray from random raised reeds of the basket. This will reveal the natural underlying color of the basket to create a metallic washed look.

Move to another area of the basket and repeat the process until the whole basket is treated. Let dry.

Insert Styrofoam into basket and secure.

Clip spruce sprays into smaller sections and insert into foam, designing the perimeters of your design all the way around. Attach a wired wooden pick to smaller spruce pieces to create stem length and insert where needed. Leave some smaller pieces for later to fill in holes.

Insert wooden pick into fruits and arrange in foam. Arrange the fruit, some pine cones and larger ornaments in a mounded fashion. To fasten ornaments in design, attach wood pick into their opening and secure with hot glue. Let dry and insert.

Gild holly leaves by closely spraying each leaf with 24KT Pure Gold then immediately, lightly wipe with paper towel while spray is still wet. This creates a streak of gold over the foliage. Trim holly sprays into desired sizes and insert into arrangement. Add wood picks to stems for additional length when needed or, attach smaller pieces with hot glue.

Insert small red ornaments and more pine cones into design.

Fill in any small spaces with small greenery pieces.

Project Tip: If you want to finesse the wiped areas of the basket or holly, spray the 24KT Pure Gold into a section of the paper towel and wipe the desired areas. The wet spray will re-soluablize the dry color to let you manipulate it more.

<img alt="shadowBOXING%20b.jpg"
src="http://www.dmcolor.com/shadowBOXING%20b.jpg" width="453" height="353"/>

TOOLS AND MATERIALS

Design Master Sprays - COLORTOOL Spray Basil, Home Decor Stain Pecan, TACK 1000 Spray Adhesive – natural 12" x 12" wooden photo frame, 12" x 12" WorldWin® Double Mates™ Cardstock one each: creamy cocoa and spring green, 8" X 10" Photo, 17 green silk leaves, Prang® Watercolors brown, fine paint brush, dimensional foam adhesive circles, extra strength glue stick, X-Acto knife and cutting mat, newspapers

TECHNIQUE

This project uses the Reverse Stencil technique. Cover work surface with newspapers in a well-ventilated area. Position photo on Spring Green cardstock and plan where leaves will be able to overlap photo without covering important parts of the image. Remove photo and set aside. In a well-ventilated area, cover work surface with newspapers. Lightly spray back of leaves with TACK 1000. Position leaves by overlapping around top and bottom of Spring Green cardstock. Spray light mists of Basil over top of leaves and cardstock. Lightly spray around outside of cardstock using Pecan Stain. Let dry.

Remove leaves from cardstock revealing outlines of leaves. Use paintbrush and thinned down brown watercolor to free-hand paint veins onto leaves. Optional: Use brush tip felt markers instead. Let dry.

Plan where leaves need to be cut to insert photo under them. Use craft knife and cut around edges of leaves, working on cutting mat.

Trim brown cardstock to 8 1/2" x 10 1/2". Use glue stick to attach photo to cardstock. Then use glue stick to attach cardstock to middle of leaf cardstock, allowing leaf cutouts to overhang around picture. If desired, curl leaves with fingers or use foam circles under photo leaves for added dimension.
