You may have seen something like this before for wine, Out of Work (OOW) is a product specifically for you social beer drinkers. The idea was born when Barcelona-based designers Giovanna de Ávila and Joan Sunyol joined forces to create this design. Used to the Spanish tradition of “tapeo” (that’s the Spanish word for going to snack bars), they found that it was very uncomfortable to be standing at the same time with the dish and the glass in each hand.

OOW holds the beer glass allowing you to carry both dish and glass with just one hand. It allows you to drift with your friends without thinking “where did I leave my glass?” Each beer glass is artisan mouth-blown and each plate is hand made in ceramics. So, next time you’re off to the bar, it’s BYOG&P, or “bring your own glass and plate.”

ODE1647 is a new piece from Jacco Maris Design. It’s quite an impressive design, and I can see it working in a modern interior.

As the name implies, the ode 1647 collection is an ode to the luxurious chandeliers of the early 17th century.  The number 47 refers to the atomic number for silver. By using exciting new materials, we have created an entirely new and modern language of form. The arms are formed of braided copper with a UV coating. The ode 1647 is designed by Jacco Maris and Ben Quaedvlieg.

The collection consists of a 15-light chandelier, a nine-light chandelier, a nine-light ceiling lamp, a five-light wall lamp, a two-light wall lamp and a one-light wall lamp. The lamps are available in silver plated copper, black plated copper and copper. For the shades are nine different colors of velor and three different metallic colors available.

Paper Tiger Products are home furnishings designed by Australian designer Anthony Dann inspired by folded forms and seamless construction. They are made of materials such as cardboard, and are packed flat for easy transportation. They assemble quickly and easily. Taking advantage of the deceptive strength of triangular folding, the designs are engineered to withstand all the rigors of heavy use.

Operating as both a design consultancy and a design brand, Paper Tiger works with clients interested in temporary structures and ephemeral experiences, as well as with the design of furniture and lighting for retail, events and exhibitions. The designs have been published both nationally and internationally, and won the 2007 Launch Pad award for Sustainability. Paper Tiger Products are made in Australia, and the stools are certified by Ecospecifier.

USIN-e, Amaury Poudray and Rémi Bouhaniche, will show works this Spring at The Gallery in Brussels.

Amaury and Rémi both attended the Ecole Supérieure d’Art et de Design in Saint Etienne, France, and after a period of study in the United States and India respectively, decided to start a common creative activity — USIN-e. Their work has been featured at numerous exhibits and now they’ve designed a new collection, PRELUDE, especially for this show at The Gallery. PRELUDE consists of 5 rattan items that will be produced in limited edition as well as other works that they’ve created.

The Vespa Chair by Spanish design studio Bel & Bel is an exclusive, limited series of chairs created from old Vespa scooters from the scrap yard. The parts are salvaged and restored, then 100% hand-crafted by Bel & Bel. Each scooter chair is different, and comes numbered with a certificate of authenticity just like a piece of art.

The warmth of fireplaces is nice and fireplaces are even better when they become apart of an entire room’s design. Chazelles has a range of contemporary fireplaces in styles that can fit any modern home, classic styles for a more traditional look, and design styles for incorporating more texture.

A while back we featured the Nest Chair by Nina Bruun, and she’s emailed us her newest creation, the Nest Chair, which was inspired by the coming season and nature, and (obviously) a bird’s nest. I think she’s one to watch over the next few years.

From the designer:

My idea was to create a graphical chaos which still felt like a unified whole.

The chair’s supporting structure consists of a bottom, seat and four stabilizing legs. To create a “nest feeling” I played with birch strips in different thicknesses and hurled them around the supporting structure. In order not to divert attention from the nest of birch strips, I have chosen to make a very anonymous upholstered cushion in a dusty chocolate brown which plays beautifully with the pale birch. It was natural for me that the chair had a soft center to create references to the bird’s nest, that are typically lined with down, to form a confident frame for eggs and chicks.

Weidesign is a new label by Chantal van der Erve (Design Academy) and Rob Groenen, which launched during Dutch Design Week. Based in the Netherlands, Weidesign creates handcrafted modern bags from pure wool felt and vegetable-tanned leather. Their bags are designed to carry the latest and greatest in electronics for contemporary nomads. They’ve also designed a felt basket for holding magazines or newspapers.
