Jean Jullien is a French graphic designer living and working in London. He comes from Nantes and did a graphic design degree in Quimper before coming to London. He graduated from Central Saint Martins in 2008 and is currently studying at the Royal College of Art, alongside his professionnal activities. He works closely with the musician Niwouinwouin. His practice ranges from Illustration to photography, video, costumes, installations, books, posters and clothing to create a coherent yet eclectic body of work.

Tipografía creada por Erik Spiekermann en 2005 y distribuida por la fundición FontFont de forma gratuita. Su principal característica es la de ser la tipografía más económica de Spiekermann utilizando para eso diversas técnicas como la eliminación de algunos caracteres y el uso de las versalitas en lugar de las mayúsculas, lo que hace que se ahorre más de un 50% de papel, pantalla o cualquier otra superficie con respecto a otras tipografías sin versión condensada. En realidad se trata de una adaptación de la Meta, su creación estrella en la década de 1990, de ahí su nombre Mt.

Alex Steinweiss el padre de las cubiertas de discos

Steinweiss era un joven diseñador neoyorkino de veintitrés años que, en 1939, trabajaba como dibujante y publicista para Columbia Records, en una época en la que las portadas de discos de 78 revoluciones por minuto eran simples fundas de cartón sin apenas adornos. El joven Steinweiss pensó que sería una buena idea el adornar las carátulas con ilustraciones y motivos que reflejaran el espíritu de la música que contenían los discos.
Se peleó con su director ejecutivo y solamente pudo convencer a la discográfica realizando pruebas y maquetas por las noches, después de su jornada habitual de trabajo.
Además ideó el packaging de los discos de vinilo, un diseño que todavía se mantiene. Llenó las portadas con ilustraciones imaginativas y coloridas, provocando una explosión en las ventas: una reedición suya de la Quinta sinfonía de Beethoven llegó a vender un 894% más gracias a su portada.
Su influencia marcó el despegue de un sector que ha llegado a convertirse en uno de los motores de la cultura del ocio a nivel mundial y posibilitó que, a partir de entonces, los diseños
de las portadas de discos se hayan convertido en un referente cultural y estético
para millones de personas.

"CSS has brought us many capabilities in terms of typography and the web, but we always seem to be limited to the same 4-5 typefaces over and over again. There is an inherant problem, if the font you specify isn’t on the viewers computer it won’t render in that font. So as designers and developers we end up selecting the ones that we can safely assume is available on most computers today. So most pages use Arial, Helvetica, or Georgia as their typefaces… and the world of the web remains slightly more bland.

But there are quite a few high quality typefaces that are available on most new computer systems and you can always fall back on the common ones. Of course there are options like creating images, dynamic headlines, and siFR… but all of these techniques increase load time and development time. There are plenty of good reasons to be strategic in the font choices rather than using additional technology. I am shocked at how rarely I see anyone taking advantage of these type options, so here is a quick and dirty list of fonts you should and could use in your designs and stylesheets...."
