Sonia Simone, co-founder of Copyblogger Media has written “The Problem with SOPA (And How to Stop It)” discussing some of the key issues involved with SOPA.

On Thursday, 15 December, Facebook expanded the availability of its Timeline feature worldwide. Speaking at the Facebook f8 Developers Conference in San Francisco in September, Mark Zuckerberg initially announced Timeline which was designed so ‘you can tell the whole story of your life on a single page.’ Once available, users can chart their entire Facebook history via Timeline, from their first friend to the most recent status update. The social network first rolled out Timeline in New Zealand last week in order to monitor speed and performance in an English-speaking country. That testing apparently went well, and the feature is now available around the globe. Read the full story »

Unfortunately, that day has come.” It was a simple letter to Apple’s board on August 24. Yet the announcement had an immediate effect online and even on Wall Street. No one can doubt Jobs’ impact on personal computer, music player, smartphone and tablet and his focused vision which has led Apple to become not only wealthy but a valuable tech company.

However, I recently noticed Google implemented this “Importance” marker feature. Well, as it turns out, I really could do without it. I prefer to label my emails my way, not have Gmail decide what’s important for me. So, I decided to turn the setting off completely. Here’s how…

log in to gmail

go to Mail settings

go to Priority Inbox

select No Markers under Importance markers

Save Changes

That’s right and it’s FREE! On Empire Avenue, that’s exactly what you can do. By being social, you are rewarded with virtual currency and virtual shareholders. Empire Avenue’s uniqueness is in creating “value-based” relationships; deeper relationship than merely “following” (Twitter) and less intrusive than becoming “friends” (Facebook). When someone or business signs up, Empire Avenue asks you to list yourself on a public stock index closest to your chief interest. Then people/businesses build portfolios buying people-stocks based on market valuation of social media activity, common interests or personal connections. Empire Avenue is by no means just for individuals. You can find some major brands, e.g. Dell, Ford, Intel, Oreo and Toyota on Empire Avenue getting their brand out to the audience, connecting with their customers and having fun.

And for many online sites, organizations and corporations alike, are talking about ways to go green and be environmentally responsible and friendly. Earlier today, while visiting various Earth Day-related sites online, I came across Picnic for the Planet organized by The Nature Conservancy.

Picnic for the Planet invites people to join a meetup at an outdoor venue with good food and peeps. The meetups, which are local events, are happening all over the world. Their overall goals are for people to consider eating local, sustainable and green; all worthwhile endeavors everyday but especially appropriate on Earth Day!
