THE WATER DRAGON 1952 AND 2012

Water has a calming effect on the Dragon's fearless temperament. Water allows the Dragon to re-direct its enthusiasm, and makes him more perceptive of others. These Dragons are better equipped to take a step back to re-evaluate a situation because they understand the art of patience and do not desire the spotlight like other Dragons. Therefore, they make smart decisions and are able to see eye-to-eye with other people. However, their actions can go wrong if they do not research or if they do not finish one project before starting another.

I need to get back to some serious blogging and writing. Running two businesses has really wiped out my free time. Not to mention my creative energy! Everyday day I get up and attend to my growing design business. Around mid afternoon I have to break it off and get ready to leave for my pizza shop. It's a real left brain right brain routine everyday. In any case, I'm determined to start posting more frequently. In the meantime...please enjoy this musical interlude...

A Sneak Peek!

I'm counting the days until the High Point Furniture Market. I will be leaving in four days, and the excitement and anticipation are building and building. I can't wait to get there and breathe the air of design and innovation!

The photo above is a little sneak peek of my latest seating design being produced by LAZAR. I feel so fortunate to be working with such an amazing client. Their fingers are on the pulse, and they know how to build seating that makes you just want to dive in and melt right into it!

They did an amazing job! I can't wait to unveil it with them in High Point. The official opening is October 22nd. If you're going to the show, you're gonna want to stop and chillax on this new LOUNGE. I hope to see you there :-)

Now Converse has opened a whole new world to all of us! We can now design our own custom pair of Chuck Taylor's. How cool is that!?!? In a matter of minutes, I designed the shoes you see in this post. I then clicked and ordered them. I'm now like a kid waiting for Santa Clause to arrive!

If you've ever read my bio, you know that I've been in the Home Furnishings Industry for over 25 years. Quitting my job in China a couple years back, and doing it during the worst economic times in my lifetime, has proven to be the hardest and most wonderful thing I've ever done. It's been so gratifying to start from scratch and then build something really fun and exciting!

I had my first very own limited edition designs produced in Italy and they're currently being sold there. In Italy!! What an honor! The groups we sent to the States sold out immediately. I feel so fortunate and grateful. There's much more on the way too. This Fall High Point Market Lazar Industries will introduce my latest seating designs, and there is more very cool news coming soon. I can't wait!

All the new samples are well in process, and a very professional and successful company is working to bring them to life, and then onto the market in a big way. All the other new designs have been created too. Enough to take me all the way into the first half of next year. Some of those are already in the development stage. That's the really cool news coming down the road.

Now, what's a designer to do? I will have SO much time on my hands for the next six months. When I was developing product in China I had to be "hands-on" through each and every step. Due to language and cultural differences, things had to be expressed 3 and 4 times until they finally understood what I wanted and we got it finally right.

Now, with "Made In America" products, and companies who totally "get it" bringing my designs to life, what am I going to do with all this newly found time?! Well, I chose to do the most logical thing for a designer to do in this situation...take over a pizza shop of course! LOL!

Yup, that's right! I will be running a family owned pizza shop in "South Philly" for the next six months or more, in between occasional visits to factories and some large retailers. My cousin owns a really great pizza shop in Philadelphia. It's located in the Italian neighborhood know as "South Philly", and this shop Rocks! His food is really delicious because he's passionate about quality. He really does care about the awesome factor!

He recently came to me and asked me for help with his second location, which is also in another part of South Philly. His first shop just keeps growing, and he doesn't have the time to work on the second shop. It's the same great food, but it's just not being run the same way. It really needs a lot of work to make it as awesome as the first location, and I committed to jump in and help him get it there.

I'm so excited about this. I get to fill my temporary down time with a really meaningful and fun mission, and I get to help my cuz! Hopefully, right about the time when my own furnitutre company is coming out of the ground, I will be leaving him a very fine tuned pizza shop. And he deserves it too! He's not only helped me in the past when I needed it, but he helps everyone! He's just that kind of person.

This is going to be really fun, and I promise to do my best to blog about the experiences along the way. I'm going to focus on making this the best pizza shop in Philly! Customer service will be king! It's not enough to have food awesomeness, the whole experience has to be awesome! I'm going to see what I can do about it, and I hope you'll check in from time to time to see what's up at City Pizza on Front & Snyder. Of course there is a Facebook Page already ;-)

Now, this "Pizza Boy" is off to work. There's dough to be rolled, and great service with a smile to be offered to customers :-)

"Three artists...one vision"

I would like to introduce you to three amaZing artists to watch. Three design Rockstarz that have come together to create a huge new force that blasts raw art into home and lifestyle! You gotta meet them, follow them, and try to hang onto their ride into a very cool and artistic future!

First up...meet Donovan...

Donovan Swick is a super talented artist and designer of interiors, furniture, fashion, jewelry, and so much more. He's also an amazing show producer and Rockstar stylist! I felt an instant connection and bond with him when we met. He's an inspiration that I believe will be a force in the future of the Home Furnishings Industry. He's raw, driven, and so naturally talented. This dude has an undying vision and energy that is going to "Rawk" us all, and it will be so fun to watch!

Kelly Jones

Kelly Jones is another raw rawk'n artist and designer. She's also the Chainmaille Goddess! She weaves metal into fabric one loop at a time to create some of the coolest pieces of art for the body, the home, and everything else she can get her hands on. What's she creates is simply amazing, unique, and provocative! Look at some of her work...

We're talk'n extraordinary talent here! When I met Kelly she told me that she's brand new to Home Furnishings, and when you see what she brings to the industry you just won't believe your eyes!

Brian's art totally blew me away! When I first met him and saw his work, I became and instant fan for life! This dude has got super human artistic talent. And, he's a genuinely nice person. To give you and idea...when I walked into Shane's Collection in High Point where Trinity Collective was showing their stuff, I asked Brian if he had a business card. He didn't have any left, but he immediately ran several blocks away to get more. He's a completely down to earth dude.

ITMA Showtime June 2011

It's always so awesome to shop the ITMA Showtime textiles show. You get to just swim in a huge variety of fabrics, leathers, and colors! I'm always searching for something new and amazing. And you can always find it! This time I was on a very specific mission as well as looking for the next rawk'n cloth. Here's a couple of definate stand outs...

This stuff was just the coolest at the show! Mike has an awesome vision!

Another stand out was Claridge. Beautiful fabrics!

There was some amazing innovation in fabrics by Liora Manne

It's an amazing combination process of hand made and machine finished. It's called LAMONTAGE. You have to read more about it on their website. Amazing product!

There was a lot more, but these were just some that stopped me in my tracks!

If you've never been to Showtime, it's set in the Market Square building in High Point. The same town that hosts The High Point Furniture Market twice a year. The building is an extended onto historic furniture factory building that was Tomlinson Chair Manufacturing Co. Very cool building...

The show was really great! I found what I was looking for, and a whole lot more. Leave me some comments and let me know what you think of some of those awesome fabrics.
