Master Bathroom Reveal!

2016-07-08T12:06:00.000-04:00

Collaborating on this master bath renovation with the homeowner was such a satisfying project to see it finally come to completion! The goal was to take the existing master bathroom and renovate it to also include a upstairs laundry room for this beautiful family. My husband and contractor Briant General Contracting completed the installation of my design and all of us could not be happier with the results!

Master Bedroom Reveal!

2016-01-16T20:51:00.000-05:00

This is just a tease but I wanted to share it anyway, I will be back with more photos very soon. Hope you enjoy the fresh take on a french country master retreat!

Budget Friendly Kitchen Update!

2015-08-27T09:19:00.001-04:00

Kitchen renovations can be done on a budget and achieve an overall new and fresh vibe! I worked on updating this kitchen on a small budget of $3500. The decision was made to purchase a mix of used and new appliances, removing some and painting the existing cabinets, tile back splash, honed marble counter tops, undermount sink, faucet and new door with trim and paint! We had custom end panels built and new crown molding installed to create a more custom look and to have the refrigerator have that built in look. We chose Wetstone Gray by Martha Stewart for the lower cabinets and Cabinetcoat White for the upper cabinets. I am pretty happy with end result and feels like a brand new kitchen! Sorry I only have a couple of photos below...

Office Reveal Today!

2015-02-09T17:05:00.002-05:00

Today I am sharing a recent office design that is now complete! It was such a fun project to work on and we could not be happier with the results! My initial design plan suggested this soft aqua grass cloth which was initially resisted by my client because it not a color she has been drawn to in the past. But after further discussion and visiting additional options, she agreed to go with the my original suggestion. This is a common series of discussions when working with clients and it is such an enjoyable aspect of interior design.

We started actually with the amazing desk found on One King Lane. We had to snap up the desk before it was sold out and we used it as the basis of the design plan. The plan included the beautiful built-ins, raised paneling and window seat which incorporates functional file drawers and extra storage built and installed by my hubby Adam Briant of Briant General Contracting. After all, this is an office that needs to be practical but beautiful as well!

Hope you love these after shots as much as we do!

Have a wonderful week and thanks for reading!

Bonus Room Reveal!

2014-11-10T22:10:00.002-05:00

Over the past year I have worked on a few projects that have finally reached completion and I am ready to share them! My clients recently moved into their new home and had a very large bonus room above the garage that they wanted to turn into a coastal retreat for their family to relax in. The clients have 2 boys and wanted the fabrics that were used on the upholstery to be stain resistant yet beautifully comfortable. Their preference was a navy sectional sofa and all the fabrics that we decided on were Sunbrella fabrics for easy wear and tear.

The final results!

The carpeting and ceiling fan are the only remaining item in the room that we began with. Applied moldings were added to the wall, rustic ceiling beams were installed, custom size sea grass rug was made, designer fabrics were sewn into pillows and on the upholstered chairs and sofa and the vintage rattan card table & chairs found on a local website all come together so nicely in this beautiful room. Again this a true blend of high and low end furnishings that make the room easy to live in and relax. The accessories were added by my client, didn't she do an amazing job!

Lovin' One Kings Lane ART!!

2014-09-16T09:12:00.001-04:00

I was perusing OKL today for some artwork and I thought there was quite a few great options for the modern girl in you and more on the traditional side as well. They are all still available but maybe not for long. You should pop over to take a look!

Beautiful Room of the Day!

2014-08-28T10:06:00.000-04:00

I have come across this room before and it always stops me in my tracks! The skillful use of color makes this room inviting and just gears me up for autumn colors and the cozy feel of crisp air like we are having this morning in NJ!

A Few Small Project Updates!

2014-08-04T11:47:00.002-04:00

I wanted to share a few small projects that I have been working on with some clients. There are some BIG reveals coming shortly and that is what has been taking up my time lately. Just putting the finishing touches on rooms can take months. In the meantime, my husband and I collaborated on the craft room in the photos below (don't you love the wallpaper my client picked out!) and I also designed this small powder room. Enjoy the photos and I will posting shortly a few more projects! These photos were sent to me by our clients, sorry for the lack of clarity but you get the picture!

Board and Battan Siding Yes or No?

2014-03-30T20:32:00.002-04:00

The house we have been renting is going back on the market......we have lived in the house for just about 9 months now and we love many aspects of the house like the beautiful lake view especially now and the close proximity to outdoor activities that we love like paddle boarding, hiking and biking. There are some things that would definitely have to go and/or be changed as well. One on top of our priority list is the windows, exterior doors and siding. We would tackle this job right after a new garage/mudroom and master bath spaces get framed. So we have been crunching numbers and ideas and I think we have decided on the direction we want to move in if we decided to make an offer. I envision an organic, simply clean palette with contrast of light and dark with wood tones. These photos are so inspiring and if things go the way I am feeling, this will probably be very close to the style and color scheme we want!

Client Design Board and Mansion in May Event 2014

2014-03-26T17:48:00.001-04:00

I wanted to share with you a recent design board I worked up for a client in Warren NJ. We incorporated their existing beautiful wood bed into the design and everything else was designed around it. After meditating on her inspiration photos which exuded a soft neutral palette, this is what I came up with. I always love clients that give me a lot of feedback and even suggest certain items they may love. This was definitely a collaboration on both our parts!

There are many finishing elements left to decide on like art work and additional pillows for the bedding but so far so good, we love how the room is coming together!

MANSION IN MAY 2014

If you have never attended this event that comes around only every other year, then I must say you need to attend this year. In fact, my husband is there working on one of the designs todays and work is fully underway to be ready for the opening on May 1,2014.

Some Client Updates and a Little Update in Our Guest Room!

2014-03-21T19:01:00.001-04:00

We are just about to finish up a gorgeous and I mean gorgeous study install this month! The wallpaper is up, the room is painted and some furnishings have been placed. We are awaiting the window treatments and window seat cushion and pillows which will arrive soon! My client and I are discussing art options and decor details now and I am so happy with the results so far.

This photo shows the wallpaper chosen and some of the fabric and trim choices we are considering!

Here is a sneak peek of the corner of the study, I can't wait to show you the rest of the design when we are done!

I was shopping around in one of my favorite NJ towns, Lambertville. If you are ever visitng the NYC area, take a day and drive out into the country and spend some time visiting the many quaint boutiques and restaurants in Lambertville. You will not be disappointed!

We added a couple of little touches to the walls in our lake house guest room, the antlers I found in Lambertville this weekend and I love how they look!

Have a great weekend!!

Back to Blogging and a Client's Laundry/Mudroom Room Reveal in Summit NJ!

2014-02-09T13:33:00.002-05:00

It has been over a month since my last post, the reason.....my husband and I flew to the Philippines and helped with disaster relief work. We were able to erect in total with our group close to 25 simple pre-fabricated homes on the island of Panay. It was an amazingly rewarding experience and we are so happy to have done it!

Just before we left, it was a crunch to finish up a laundry room I was working on with my husband Briant General Contracting together. We don't always get to work on projects together, so it was really awesome to do this together!

Here is a before photo of the space in the walk out basement before we started construction.

We took this end of the room, reconfigured the bathroom and added the laundry room/mudroom.

The client in Summit NJ, really wanted a herringbone pattern brick floor. So we got a few selections from Morris Brick and Tile and settled on Trainstation. We applied a high gloss finish to the floor to give it a shiny/wet look that would protect and seal the bricks. My husband built the cabinetry and painted them Benjamin Moore's Cloud White. We used antique brass as the finish on the hardware, faucet and lighting. To save some mula, we decided on a silestone counter top from Home Depot that we are very happy with. All in all the room is great! Sorry for the non professional pictures, I took these quickly and without any styling done. Hopefully, sometime next month we will new photos done!

Here are the afters, hope you love it as much as we do! Who wouldn't want to do laundry in a vintage inspired laundry room like this?

Moroccan Pouf, Yes Please!

2013-12-23T09:49:00.000-05:00

Using moroccan poufs in some of my interior design plans adds such a fun, whimsical and practical element to a room. One of my client's was unsure to agree to a light sky blue one for her coastal bonus room. I sent her some of these images to show her how they are so versatile with any type of decor, from traditional to coastal inspired design. Below are some expressions of fellow decorators about these great pieces!

“Multi talented Moroccan footrests - practical, fun and enhance the decor!"

“I am a huge fan of Moroccan poufs. They are great extra seating. They are great footrests. They are both exotic and modern, and they come in a rainbow of colors.”

“I am a huge fan of Moroccan poufs. They are great extra seating. They are great footrests”

“Poufs or small stools can be used as tables, footrests or extra seating and are easily tucked away when not in use."

Feeling Blue......

2013-12-10T22:10:00.001-05:00

can you find the common thread in both rooms? what I find interesting is how the same artwork is used in each space and yet the vibe of the spaces are very different. one feels light and airy and other dark and moody. i have been using varying shades of blue lately in my designs but for very different reasons. cobalt blue and navy are great colors for a very masculine feel & aqua and robins egg blue are great for a coastal vibe. what blue shades are your favorite? my readers please share with me below in the comment box, your feedback is precious to me!

Sneak Peek of a Coastal Inspired Bonus Room!

2013-11-19T17:13:00.000-05:00

I have been incognito these days because I have honestly been so busy with clients. I am taking on a new assistant to help when I need it. I want to be involved in every aspect of the design and implementation but I need someone to help me with running errands, returning samples and assisting during my design presentations. So thanks for hanging in there and being faithful to my blog!

Below is a tease of a recent bonus room that I have been working on, enjoy!

Below is a basic design plan I put together to help my client visualize the space.

Here is the rooming coming together with the board and batten paneling, bookcases, beams, rug and fresh paint! Do you love it as much as we do? The furnishings will be installed by the end of December/ January.

I would love to hear your thoughts??

A Client's Family Room Before and After Reveal!

2013-10-01T20:44:00.000-04:00

Over the past few months I have been working closely with a beautiful family from Warren NJ on their family room! It is such a great space right off of their kitchen that is used every day as the hub of the families activities. My client contacted me in the spring and expressed their hope to have it finished by the summers end. They provided me with the basis of the room because they already had their hearts set on this beautiful sectional from Arhaus. We decided on a gorgeous charcoal velvet microfiber and the design took shape. My client's were such a pleasure to work for and my hope was to create a room that was comfortable and timeless. Here are the before pictures:

We decided to lighten the wall color, add a larger base molding and replace the carpet with a durable wood flooring. The sofa they selected was a perfect fit in the room and we brought texture and color in with pillows, accessories, area rug and ottoman. I love the addition of traditional elements like the sconces, ottoman, stools and media console with the more clean lined sofa. We incorporated a beautiful spruce green with the pillows and other elements in the room. Additional tables, lighting and art work remain to be chosen by the homeowner but they are happy with the results thus far and so am I! So enough of me chatting away, here are the after shots!

My client's have agreed to let me share the details of my resources with you!

Sofa: Arhaus

Ottoman: LEE Industries

Media Console: Restoration Hardware

Sconces: Regina Andrew

Stools and Accessories: Design Studio of Somerville

Pillows: Calico Corners and Fabric Yard

Mirror: Wisteria

Drapes and Blinds: Calico Corners

Rug: Pottery Barn

Thanks for reading and please leave me your thoughts about the room below, I would love to read them!!

A Beautiful Room and a Sneak Peek of Client's Family Room!

2013-09-23T18:24:00.001-04:00

So I have been crushing on this room for months now, I LOVE IT! The combination of yellow, mint and pops of fuchsia are amazing. This room exemplifies how you can incorporate primary colors into your eclectic design plans. Of course the bones of the room speak for themselves, the windows and fireplace surround are stunning but hopefully this image inspires you to take a leap with a room in your home!

Below are a couple of shots of a recent family room install that is just gorgeous! I will be sharing full details and photos sometime within the next week or so!

Have a great week!

A Navy Dining Room Reveal!

2013-09-03T19:26:00.001-04:00

I finally had some time to get a few photos of a dining room I finished a while ago. The spring and summer months just flew by and things are starting to slow down a bit.

My client who is the author of the great blog Everything Fitabulous, wanted to update her dining room. It was very traditional with dark warm tones that complemented her beautiful dining room set. They really loved what they had and so did I! So we came up with a plan incorporating a love of traditional classic furniture! She wanted blue to be the main color highlighted and that is just what we did. Here are pictures of the spaces before - sorry for the bad photo taking:

Here are the after shots:

We began by lightening the rooms wall color and adding a fresh coat of paint the the trim. Again, this room is a perfect blend of high and low end furnishings. We selected this beautiful bold ikat navy fabric for the drapes made at Calico Corners in Short Hills NJ for a dramatic effect and chose wrought iron hardware from Restoration Hardware for the windows. My client is not afraid to get her hands dirty and she tackled reupholstering the chairs herself in that gorgeous navy velvet, didn't they come out great! The lamps, rug, planters, mirror and linens were all at very good price points and gave my client considerable savings. The ceiling fixture and lamp in the entry way connected are higher end pieces but they really give that area it's own individual style. The only item left is a chandelier which we are working on!

Well, that is all I have for today. I really hoped you enjoyed this reveal! My client's are thrilled with the final result and that is always what is most important to me!

M&W Plastering of NJ, Is Ornamental Plastering A Lost Art?

2013-08-07T18:28:00.004-04:00

I have been wanting to write about the beautiful craftsmanship of ornamental plastering. Two of my brothers happen to be in the business and one is the owner of M&W Plasteringof NY/NJ, Martin Skrivanich. I wanted to feature some of the amazing work he has completed and also shed light on this beautiful art.

A reference work on the web had this to say on the history of ornamental plastering:

As builders and architects were hired by an increasingly affluent clientele, ornamental plaster shops developed from the single artisan operations of the 18th century into the complex establishments of the early 20th century. American plaster studios employed immigrant and, later, native craftsmen. Plasterers' guilds were in existence in Philadelphia in the 1790s. In 1864, a plasterers' union was organized in the United States with members from the British Isles whose work there had been limited to palaces and churches. English and European craftsmen came to America where the demand for their skills had increased by the decade, offering them the unparalleled opportunity to open their own shops. Over the years, plaster elements became so popular in decorating interior spaces that a major industry was established. By the 1880s, catalogs were available from which property owners could select ornamentation for their splendid new buildings.

Here is some images of M&W Plastering's recent work! Please contact him with an inquiries at mskrivanich@gmail.com. Sorry the pictures are not the best quality:(

PS Sorry the before and after dining room photos are not just ready, hopefully within the week!

Bold Headboard Inspiration!

2013-08-06T10:45:00.001-04:00

I recently acquired a new upholstered headboard and love it! It is very neutral but suits our bedroom and overall design scheme. So I am really happy with it. While I was browsing may styles and prints, I saved these files and wanted to share them with you. I would love to help one of my readers re-design their oasis using something similar to these great prints and colors!

Stay tuned for tomorrow, I am sharing a before and after dining room reveal I recently finished!

Have a great day my readers!

A Little Antique Brass!

2013-08-01T16:20:00.000-04:00

I am working on a new design plan for a mudroom in Summit NJ that will look something like this!

If our plan of brick flooring comes through, my design was to incorporate some antique brass lighting and hardware for the space. Something like this!

I have found some amazing options and the client loves them. That is always a concern, when you present something and wondering if they are going to love it as much as you! Here are some the options we are considering:

Do you have a preference? I would love to hear, leave me a comment below! Thanks and have a good day in spite of the rain here in the northeast:(
