Ali DeJohn has an unwavering love for anything handmade, homemade and everything cozy. Finding it difficult to carve out concentrated creative time in her own life, she started a creative retreat called the Makerie to give people the precious time she could rarely find.
What started as just a dream in her heart has continued to grow beyond her wildest imagination, igniting and nurturing creative sparks in people around the world. CHARLOTTE GENEVIER
A coder since the age of 15, Char Genevier has been building companies for the majority of her life. Char is the CTO and Founder of The Cotery, a platform for fashion designers to design, crowd-fund, and manufacture unique clothing lines without the upfront costs and complications of traditional overseas manufacturing.
Char attended Harvey Mudd College for theoretical math, but left to devote her full attention to building SocialEngine, a white-label social networking platform that she bootstrapped through TechStars Boulder.
Char loved the Boulder startup scene so much that she relocated there from LA in 2011. Char spends a good portion of her free time volunteering for several non-profits in the Boulder area, and is extremely passionate about drawing more women into technical and entrepreneurial fields.

ERIKA TRAUTMAN
Erika Trautman is passionate about the evolution of online storytelling. With successful careers as a writer, producer, editor, and director, she understands the importance of story in any communication, and yet has been disappointed with online video's inability to rise to its potential.

So in 2011, she founded Rapt Media to change all of that. Since then, she has built and grown a business that is positioned at the top of emerging video technologies, shared the stage with folks like Sheryl Sandberg, and solidified partnerships with powerhouse companies in media, top-tier brands and agencies and Fortune 500 enterprises.

Before Rapt Media, she founded and ran an Emmy Award Winning Production company, Outlier Films, and worked as an award-winning documentary filmmaker. Her work has aired on major networks, cable and PBS, and been shown at various film festivals.

After 12 years of yoga practice at home it's a good mix to have classes at a near by yoga studio, like The Yoga Pod in Boulder, CO, as well as some mix it up versions for home practice. I put them on my iPad and play them in my living room. Haven't figured out how to stream to my Playstation 3 or Xbox 360.
Anyone have advice for yoga on those systems? Please write your comments below.

Yoga -- the love-hate relationship in 3 steps

I offer you a very helpful way to discover the love-hate relationship of yoga in easy 3 steps.

First, we need to understand, it's the union of those opposites. For all those of you out there that love yoga, that is wonderful and I commend you on your practice. But we should also understand there will be times when you hate it. This is a perfectly acceptable reaction to yoga, but there may be more to it. For those of you at the 'hate' end of the spectrum, who have decided that you do not wish to practice, I say question that feeling. Then, and only then, can we practice yoga in it's authenticity with equanimity.

There is the physical challenge in the yoga class, to 'be' with your body and mind, in all the effort and at the same time, find ease in the postures. To be okay where ever your body allows. It's not necessarily a matter of 'like'. There is also a sort of kickass grace that arises, but you may also have experienced an unmotivated instructor, or a poorly designed class on that day. I suggest you need to evaluate a yoga class. When you are in class, look to see if your body has been pushed too far toward pain, or if you are not encouraged to listen to your body and rest in child's pose. Then, perhaps that particular class is not true yoga or beneficial to you. It may be that it's not suited for your encouragement and growth. Different classes address different needs.
I am offering to you this concept: there will be days of hate and of love for your yoga. That is its nature and that is what will be for you. Your journey is unique and not like the path of other's.

Second step is to question: Do you feel less stressed and relaxed afterwards? Do your muscles ache in places that other fitness programs can't access? Do you walk taller and more confident? Do you find there is a discovery of, "Hey, wow, I didn't know my body could do that"? Does this yoga inspire you to pursue more yoga? Do you hear words of encouragement or spiritual nuggets of advice from the teacher or yourself? Are you okay with yourself when you can't do a posture? Does the ego puff up when you can achieve a yoga posture? Yoga teaches us to witness. I am here to remind you, it's a process of being what is, and it's not easy to face ourselves day in and day out on the mat. I have, on occasion, wanted to run so far away from my mat, from my practice, that I didn't think I could be with myself in that moment, that emotion, that thought, but I stuck with it. I have grown to appreciate that part of the "hate" process. In time, you may too, but be prepared for the raw, invasive aspects of the yoga practice. The proverbial butterfly that set off the tsunami. I say this to encourage you to stay with it, your discipline and diligence in yoga is worth it.

If none of this strikes a chord for you, don't worry. I offer for you to stay motivated and try another yoga class or studio. In fact, try several variations, different instructors, and different times of the day. The body reacts differently in the AM vs PM. You may find you have energy for a more strenuous practice in the evening if you're seeking physical results. The AM will be more for the mind to handle. Things may come up for you. As an example: "I know I can do better" or "I know that this shouldn't be so hard" or "I don't feel very flexible". These judgements and labels don't necessarily serve you. They may be based on what we feel others would think of our practice. Please know that this is human nature, but I am here to offer another perspective. Treat yourself with compassion, encouragement and gentleness. Our own mind is our most severe critic. Perhaps you can replace that dialog with a more friendly approach. It's a choice to move toward the positive nature and not let anything stand in your way. Yoga is also like massage therapy; you need to try a few therapists. Some will beat you up, some will not do anything for your sore muscles and some are just right leaving you refreshed and ready to face the next week.

Your third step is to find what you relatively enjoy (love/hate) in your fitness and stick with it, it may not be yoga. You may also question what you are looking for in your yoga. There's a lot of scientific evidence that it can make you look and feel younger, alleviate illnesses/injuries and give you a more supple, svelte body... but so can a combination of other workouts. Feed YOUR soul, not the souls of your peep's.

The 3 steps of yoga. (A shortened version of understand, question and enjoy diligence)
1. Get on your mat.
2. Be okay with what arises.
3. Do it again tomorrow.

Having dedicated 11 years of practice, 6 years to teaching vinyasa yoga, and 3 years producing this blog, can you tell I'm an enthusiast? Yoga is the journey that will sustain you for a lifetime of truly living. When you seek to know what makes you tick, when you must see what is over the next hill, yoga gives you the opportunity to let go of your past, not to strive toward the future, but to be in the present moment. When life gets difficult, yoga will teach you that 'this too shall pass'. It will give you the courage to face life's challenges and at the same time really enjoy all that you have and don't have. Be the practice, through the love and hate.

A great ongoing event for businesses to present, network and individuals looking for employment. It is held the last Wednesday of every month at 8am. I have been attending for the past year and have notice a quick growth for the meetup because of it's perfect blend of enthusiasm, networking opportunities and business promotions among growing area businesses. BTB is one of the area's largest free Meetups for businesses and entrepreneurs. This event attracts many of the newest and emerging technologies in and around Baltimore.

Ron Schmelzer of Bizelo.com is the founder and lead coordinator who arranges the location, reviews and approves businesses who will present and manages all the sponsors. Beebe Communications is a proud sponsor and helps with promotion and graphic design.

▪ Paycheck Stubs (You can get rid of once you have compared to your W2 & annual social security statement)

I enjoyed the show and tell variation of recent Baltimore Tech Breakfast meeting, August 31, 2011. To give you and idea about our MeetUp group I've posted my recent comments about the new format and venue. Everyone who is involved in any aspect of technology is welcome to attend. I am seeking to offer graphic design assistance and share visual communication expertise at the meetings and perhaps work with other techs on new projects collaboratively.

The pace of this last meeting of the summer felt just about right for timing, even though we ran long. I think there may be show and tell projects where the content might be able to be presented in shorter time, but it depends upon the subject. I would suggest to perhaps break out the meeting with one longer presentation and three smaller ones. I liked the questions and comments and thought the positive energy of the group was inspiring. In some cases, I would like to devote more time to providing feed back or suggestions, but only if it is requested, otherwise it might feel awkward to critique. I suggest, if each presenter could ask what they'd like to hear from the group then, we could always send comments and suggestions in our own time to help keep to the schedule. I also am interested in the scaling topic which is moved to the next meeting. I would welcome a more technical discussion after each meeting, for those who would like to broaden their knowledge and exchange tips.

Clay Hickson at the Towson Global Incubator was very welcoming to our group and offered a very good space for us to host the meetings. His mindset and connections in the Maryland business environment are helpful towards anyone looking to grow their company or idea, as well as broaden their client base. The location is easy to get to and parking is plentiful. I'd like to see more tech breakfast events here at TGBI. They affiliated with Towson State University and are sponsored by Baltimore County Maryland.

The Baltimore TechBreakfast is a very inviting group of aspiring programmers, entrepreneurs and marketers. The open forum works very well and is free to make changes to be the best. It is fascinating to experience a diverse range of individuals representing businesses where technology is evolving to bring innovative ideas to market. I am glad to be among the group who provides a forum to discuss and receive feedback on emerging real world projects. Thanks for sharing the inspiring positive energy.

Car art on wheels

I'm considering this car for my next ride. I love the nostalgia and the memories it evokes from my childhood. While, it's not a station wagon, it has a similar dash layout to my parents car where we took trips all across the country. I want to continue to be inspired with what I own and drive. I've loved many cars over the years. I've owned a Datsun, Ford Mustang (two different times), Pontiac TransAm, Toyota 4Runner, BMW 7 series, M5, three M3's, several 3 series, Audi S4, Toyota Land Cruiser and lastly, but most fondly, my 1977 Mini Clubman. I have enjoyed the craftsmanship of each, many were performance cars and I do love the power of those. I've had quite a bit of track time, autoX and fast track driving experiences. Now I'm in the process of narrowing down what I might consider for my next car. Will it be a modern Mini Countryman. All wheel drive, nimble and sporty or something back to my love of old cars and the emotions they invoke.

Here's what I've found out about this car which is 'art on wheels'.

From the early years of Chrysler Corporation's history, the Imperial nameplate was used to designate the finest car of the line. Beginning with the 1955 model year, Imperial became a separate marque unto itself, with a unique model lineup for each year. Thus, the Imperial nameplate was treated as a separate make from the regular Chrysler lineup from 1955 until 1975. Unfortunately, the Imperial ceased production in 1975.

The Imperials of that twenty year span are recognized among collectors as some of the finest American automobiles ever produced. They represent an ideal of style, luxury, comfort, and excess which has not been duplicated since that time.

Imperial's styling, on the other hand, was subjected to constant experimentation. Each model year brought a new look.

"The LeBaron nameplate was introduced in the Imperial line for 1957. It was used to denote the highest model of Imperial. The midrange model was the Imperial Crown, while the 'entry' model was the Imperial Custom. The LeBaron model was used in the Imperial line from 1957 to 1975, when Imperial ceased to be."

This luxurious Canadian special order 1964 Imperial LeBaron Coupe represented the finest Chrysler had to offer in terms of style, luxury and comfort. The powertrain is an Overhead Valve 90 Degree V-8 engine producing 340 horsepower at 4600 rpm. The transmission is a torque flight fully automatic Pushbutton controlled. The exterior is a gorgeous Black, the interior is a white vinyl. Options include Pwr.Steering, Pwr.Brakes, Pwr. windows, Pwr. seats, Pwr.locks and factory A/C. Art on wheels!

Why not get something just like this instead of a Honda, Subaru, VW or even a BMW? I don't even care if the AC doesn't work. I guess I better head out and test drive it so I can begin to find my art inspiration everytime I drive. Send me your suggestions for other cars to consider. I welcome the discussion.

1989 Toyota 4x4 Land Cruiser FJ62 - For sale by hiking, climbing and camping owner.
I'd love to tell you more of the adventures I've had in this truck, but then I think you'd rather imagine your own. Suffice it to say that this is an ad for selling my truck. I thing blogging is the best way to get the word out there. Let me know your thoughts.

1989 Toyota Landcruiser FJ62 4x4 For Sale, Westminster, MD

Asking $7,000 (you will have to come and see the truck before I negotiate on the price.) Do not ask in email what the final price is. I'm asking 7,000 and will accept offers in person.

Highlights:
I am the third owner of the vehicle. It is reliable, starts and drives fine every time I get in the truck.
The Land Cruiser runs great with no problem. No visible oil leaks.
Rear bed gray carpet in excellent condition.
Installed a CD, AM/FM, MP3 player from a Scion with original Landcruiser speakers.
Original chrome wheels in good condition, no curb rash, no chips, no damage! They do show a little staining from normal rain and weather exposure.

Notes:
• This has been an extra vehicle for errands and such. NOT a daily driver. I have never taken the Land Cruiser off-roading.
• Oil synthetic blend changed every 4k miles.
• Interior is all original with No tears, but a small stain shows on the passenger seat (it looks like it can be cleaned, but I haven't been able to tackle that yet).
• The dashboard is in pretty good condition with one crack in the middle.
• all components and gauges are present, working and all original.
• The paint is decent and shines well for original. I can't tell, but there may've been some repaint in a isolated spot or two before we owned it.
• No major body damage or accidents. One small dent in the rear hatch. No noticeable rust, but I can see where there may be a spot appearing on the front fender. v
• It has been garage kept for a majority of it's life, so it's in great shape for a 20 year old Land Cruiser.

OPTIONS:
A set of off road tires and mounted on chrome rims that were never used. If you want them please add $500.00

The Land Cruiser is sold as-is with no warranty. I ask for a $500 non-refundable deposit. If it is a personal check then I'll need to wait for it to clear my bank before the truck can be picked up.
I prefer not to ship the Land Cruiser, although you are free to arrange your own shipping and I can coordinate the delivery on this end.
Local pick up preferred. May deliver to you with a small extra fee for my time and fuel.
