We had a great weekend preparing our booth and attending a bridal fair on Sunday. We met a lot of new friends and said hi to those we know. We are excited to work with some new brides, some coming to the end of their long journey and some just beginning!

Congratulations to all the Brides (and even some grooms) that came out yesterday!

An age old question…Kids at Weddings, an I do or I don’t? Today’s weddings have many challenges. Couples are getting married later in life when a lot of their friends and family have kids already. Some families are combined and come with kids on either side. AND YES some still want the traditional wedding no kids no muss no fuss…So how do you decide which is right for you? What are your options? Do you have a voice?

Here are some tips that will help you navigate through this sticky situation.

1. Consider your budget and who is paying…If you as a couple are paying then decide what you can afford children’s plates are usually less expensive, but they are still a cost. If your parents are paying they may want to weigh in on whether this is a family event or a sophisticated no kids allowed event, and you must remember that this is still your day, have a voice.

2. Location, Location, Location…Is this event in a Church, A Hotel, or outdoors? This will say a lot about how rambunctious a child can be without the direct attention of the bridal party and whether or not they will be heard over everything else. In short, kids can be loud and they really hate being detained which brings me to #3.

3. A pamphlet or a Novel…Will your ceremony be short and sweet or a long and traditional one? If long and traditional you may want to reconsider kids or have them just come to the reception.

4. DON’T “kid” PROFILE! All kids are not the same! Some are quiet and well mannered while others cannot contain themselves for 5 minutes and sound like they have a bullhorn permanently attached to their cute little faces! If you include one you must include them all (including your own!). Unless you want a family war of the words!

You have options!

1. Consider asking family and friends before the RSVPs go out their take – they may WANT to have a night out without the kids, and some families may see it as a great family experience.

2. NANNY! Hire a nanny service to take the kids while the ceremony is taking place and ask your wedding planner to create activities for the kids coming while the reception is taking place. This will keep them happy, your family sane and you wont miss out on those insanely cute kid pictures!

Kids can definitely bring life to a the party – give them a chance. Of all the weddings I have every attended or planned the ones with kids have been the most fun! The choice is definitely yours, and it is your day. Just know there are options and you should not feel stressed about it!
