BACK ROOM BARGAINS

We have been doing a little "weeding out" of some of our accessories during the last few days to place in our "Back Room Bargain" area. Tricia, Eric, some of the designers and I found things we will call little treasures for the bargain hunter. The tables are full of marked down to the bare bones items. Tricia and Eric marked most items down to "garage sale prices". I saw beautiful candle holders, vases, plates, lamps, yards of fabric, pillows, bedding groups, pictures, greenery, counter stools, many one of a kinds items marked for $1, $2, $5, $7, $10, $12, $20....Unbelieveable Prices. The Back Room Doors will open on Thursday, May 15th at 9AM. This is a 3 day Event, Thursday, Friday and Saturday Only. I will try to post some pictures for a sneak preview tomorrow. We still have part of the Back Room to set up for our Bargain Hunters...there will be some Sofas & Chairs, even a few Tables added to this Event for a substantial reduction off the price list. We expect to be very busy on Saturday, May 17th due to the Annual Country Market here in Zionsville. Looking forward to seeing all of you soon. Beth White, Owner

The furniture industry is buying into "going green". Love Furniture & Design recognizes the need to explore and invest in environmentally friendly products for the home. According to Keith Koening of City Furniture, Florida, "Being environmentally responsible is going to be increasingly important, and we want to be able to take a leadership position, not play catch-up when the consumer demand hits."

Green is a huge movement around the world and consumers are trying to find ways to conserve, re-use and recycle just about everything, without sacrificing any style, comfort or other quality customers expect. 10 Ways to Refresh Your Living Room

When it comes to decorating many of us are guilty of finding something that works and stopping there. However, rooms are not static things. They are living spaces that need to be updated from time to time. And what better time to do that than spring?

This spring when you get out your supplies and clean the whole house, think about redecorating. You'd be surprised what a little rearranging can do for a space. Here are some helpful ideas to get started.

Rearrange the furniture. One of the biggest mistakes that people make is lining furniture against the wall. This is a decorating disaster. Instead, try angling your sofa or putting it in the middle of the room.
Paint. There is nothing that livens up a new room like fresh paint. Paint one wall to make it a focal point for an art gallery, or paint the whole room.
Add plants. Greenery is a good way to bring the outdoors in as well as add some texture and life to your space.
Lay an area rug. Area rugs are not just for hard floors. You can layer an area rug on top of your carpet to add color to your space. Lay it at an angle beneath your coffee table to define the space and create interest.
Change pictures. Try swapping out your artwork for something new or reframing your artwork in a more decorative frame. Group pictures with similar themes and colors together to create a more gallery feel.
Group collectibles. Collections are nice as long as they don't get out of control. Try grouping objects in threes or fives. Think about shape and scale when arranging items.
Add decorative pillows. If you have some already, think about swapping them out for newer ones. Don't be afraid of bright colors, such as, red or orange, or pillows that have texture or pattern such as argyle.
Replace lamps. If you still have the same lamps that you had when you got married 25 years ago, it's time to replace. There are so many different options now. Think about the kind of space you are creating. Pick out lamps that match your style.
Add a throw, afghan or slipcover. Couches can be easily updated by adding a simple slipcover. Check out your local home store for a style that suits you. Another thing you can do is layer a throw or afghan that complements your style and adds color and warmth.
Eliminate clutter. Clutter is the enemy. It must be eliminated. Unique storage solutions can help, such as window seats, or ottomans with hidden storage.

Does your bedroom seem a bit tired and out of date? Set your dreams free by giving your bedroom a total makeover for 2008.

Your bedroom should be a sanctuary-after all you spend a third of your life there! In fact, there are more bedrooms in your home than any other room and kids occupy most of them.

Redesigning a bedroom can be a bit challenging, but with a plan you can create a fresh start and enhance intimate moments when taking time out from a busy schedule.

You might want to develop a new theme around a cherished piece of bedroom furniture, or start from scratch with only a color in mind. Remember, bedrooms are private spaces and allow more flexibility than other rooms in regard to color, style and decorating opportunities. The centerpiece of any bedroom is, of course, the bed. Punch It Up With Color

15 Minute Clean Up

You've got company coming in fifteen minutes, and you still haven't cleaned the living room. Not to worry. You still have enough time to clean and make it look like you didn't break a sweat if you follow this schedule.

Grab a dustrag & broom or vacuum.

Gather items that do not belong.

Put items into a container

Brush off couch cushions

Retrieve missing items from inside couch.

Replace and fluff pillows.

Dust down coffee table and arrange neatly.

Vacuum or sweep the floor.

Relax.

If time permits:

Return found items to right places.

Vacuum couch interior.

Turn Cushions & Pillows

Rotate and fluff seat cushions and back pillows weekly, regardless of use. This will help to regulate the compression of filling materials, even out the wear of the fabric, control seam slippage and welt movement, and minimize seam wear. This is especially important if you are a creature of habit and tend to sit in the same place. Not only will this keep your cushions looking like new you won't have to replace your sofa as often.
