CUPCAKE FETISH: S'MORES SPRINKLED WITH GRAHAM CRACKER CRUST!

S'mores : Ingredients

Marshmallow
Chocolate Frosting
Yellow Box Cake Mix
Whipped Marshmallow
Graham Cracker
Dark Chocolate
Cupcake Liners

How To:

Mix cake mix in a bowl following the boxed instructions
Bake at 350 degrees for 25-30 minutes, use a toothpick to test the center of your cupcakes. If the toothpick comes out clean, your cupcakes are done.
Trim your cupcakes for a flat top. Using a knife cut a hole to remove the center that way you can fill with your already whipped marshmallow.
Add your chocolate icing, marshmallows, than add dark chocolate shavings for a finished and yummy look and taste!

After adding all the ingredients, the fun part sprinkling crushed graham cracker crust on top.

"OUR HOME FOR NOW": IN THE LIVING ROOM & WE ARE MOVING!

We are moving so much is going on...packing, and more packing. But, in between packing we have to work and still prepare dinner, blog (when I have time) and refurbish (which I haven't done). I figured since I am moving and so is designitgirl it's better to start fresh when the site is up and running. You read it right, designitgirl is moving and her name is changing (slightly) and I am so excited to share this great news. It's all happening at once and this a great time for it, moving into our dream home, with a pool, large yard, tray ceilings, an enclosed patio/game room and a Jacuzzi. I mean what more could a happy blogger could ask for!. So, I can not wait to blog the before and afters of this new GRAND adventure. Amazing things are coming, I will do my best to blog every little detail.

This cabinet is in our kitchen and I had so much fun painting the door using chalk board paint. Why? because my 17 year old son constantly asked us "what's for dinner" so we decided to write the menu on the chalk board. He's almost 18 yrs old now and still asks whats for dinner, kids...you gotta love them.

and... the famous chalk we all love and what i love using.

When I went to Walmart one day I was searching high and low for this ceramic Butterfly Scented Wax Warmer by Better Homes and Gardens....I love it and purchased the many different scents, mmm smells yummy! Whats your favorite scent? I purchased an Owl Wax Warmer, that plugs into an outlet, its so cute.

A Christmas gift and I haven't used it because, I am saving it for the new site and new ideas will be written in it.

A fun project, I used Sherwin Williams paint and i can't wait to finish my other two projects. A MCM Dresser got a new look!.

Look at that smooth top, gorgeous.

I am looking forward to re-purposing this piece. A 1960's Mans Chest a little TLC and she will look brand new. I think this piece is going in the Master Bedroom.

I had to share my straws pics, there are so many colors and designs to choose from. The ideas are endless, think of all the parties and cup cakes, yes I have a cupcake fetish and I love using my straws to decorate.

This little chick is cute, once yellow, now a bright white to go with our modern decor.

So, I am bad and sad to say that I received this gorgeous bike this past Christmas and her wheels have yet to see dirt, but she is pretty. I promise to ride her this year, this summer and I will take a photo while pedaling away. As you can see my home is empty, all those drawers are empty, it's ready to go and we are ready to move into our new home!.

I love candles and these are the cutest, purchased at Ross for $5.99 each, not a bad deal!. And when your done, you can always use them for succulents, pencils, bamboo shoots, and more.

This is a pretty lamp and I have plans to decorate her, I love the butterflies with a little jewels she going to look gorgeous in our new home!,

Most of our things are packed and ready to go, so sharing what I have left is another way to saying bye to our "our home for now" and by to design it girl. Starting next month (date yet unknown) design it girl will be no more. A new name, new look and a new layout with new #tabs

will represent my new domain/site. I look forward to sharing my #life and design, a lifestyle blog, because I have so much more to offer than deign. Like fashion, I am so out of #shape, but I have a cool style and I want to share that as well.

OUR MASTER BEDROOM, IS OUR SANCTUARY.

A place where we can relax and cuddle. A place to catch up after a long busy week at work and running around with two teens. Life is busy, but you always have to find time for love. This is our home for now, we are in the process of purchasing our dream home, and we cant wait to share you guys.

Our bedroom, makes us smile every time we walk in! Our bedroom for now.

Loving my area rug from Target. I purchased this planter pot at my

local Goodwill for $17.00 bucks, what a great deal.

I purchased these lovely curtains at target as well and I am

in love with the Yellow flowers.

Spike always seem to find his way in our bed.

Cute, simple and sassy. A lot of the items are being packed so

our room is beginning to look bare.

I knew I wanted chevron lamp shades, as a designer I would've felt left out in a designer kind of way. So if the day comes, when chevron is a small thing of the past, I can say "I had those" with confidence. But, to be honest chevron will continue to lavish many more homes.

OUR MOBILE HOME FOR NOW! PART1

I Just recently I purchased a book and the title reads "Home for now" how true this is for us. We are finally looking again for our perfect home, before it wasn't the time, and now we are extremely read. It feels wonderful to know that we can start house hunting, and gathering design ideas for our future home.In the mean time I wanted to share some of our favorite things in our current home! I have to start documenting the old home and the new, for comparison (in a good way). I am totally blessed to have a roof over my head and I LOVE modular/prefab homes.

Cabinet
Here is a look into our bedroom. This cabinet I recently purchased at a thrift shop (for sale) I didn't want to put in my shop and I really love it, so maybe I'll keep it!. I love the look, a solid wood piece, the doors are so cute, and this piece would work well in any small space. I was thinking in a bathroom or the guest room in our new home.

DIY Cake Stand
My little cute Pink cake stand, a super easy #DIY project that I am in love with. I have three that Icreated and I have a few more plates and candle sticks to #DIY some more...The next color is Yellow!. A simple clear glass plate, a glass candle stick and liquid nail, spray paint and there you have it, a few pieces that look like porcelain.

DIY Succulent Planter
This cute and inexpensive planter, was a margarita glass we had sitting in our hutch, and you know once we start packing I'm sure it would have broke or forgotten about. So, I decided to spray pain her Gold and plant a succulent, I think she turned out glamorous, how about you?

Scrap Book Paper Coasters

Another favorite and a cute #DIY #craft anyone can do, especially with leftover paper. I purchased round cork coasters from my local thrift shop and the entire bag of at least 60+ coat only $2.00 bucks, yup I thought that was a great deal as well. I decided to make paper coaster, how cute. Read the full post here.

#OITNB: PRISON #DECOR! WHERE ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK!

Orange decor is in and Black is out, but only for the Women in #OITNB that is. A Netflix series that has become a must watch in our home, These women have no say when it comes to what they wear behind bars, so when it comes to fashion its only left to the imagination. When you only have Orange to deal with, you just have to improvise and make the best with what you've got!. Just think of all the creative women in prison.

Here is my twist on this happening show.
#OITNB is a H-O-T new series, already in season 2. With drama from beginning to end, a love triangle, anger, a bunch of cool women learning to survive. I love this show. A definite behind the scenes on how women really deal with prison life. I am pretty sure its just a scratch off the surface of how real women deal with living behind bars. And in some of the toughest prisons around.

Orange is a color that many people should use more often, why? because Orange is bold, fun, bright, and cheery. Orange is an automatic smile on a persons face, an automatic splash of spunk to a space. Orange forces the soul to feel bright. Yes, I am trying to make light of the bright Orange jump suits and no its not for a fun and cheery day in prison, more like "your not getting very far in those jump suits". :/

Now let's decorate Alex's Cell: I think she's sexy, classy for sure, with an edgy style.

ALEX:

Alex is one of my favorite characters, but I think Piper has an edgy side to her as well. Like they say "you have to watch out for the quiet ones"!. Piper is sweet and can be very manipulative, and she gets her way, she charms her way through different situations and her innocence makes her appear vulnerable to other inmates. Alex is straight forward and uses her charm to "charm" her way through, she has swag and knows when to use it. Her cool and calming appearance keeps her under the radar. This "laylow method" allows Alex to plan her next move.

CREAMSICLE CUPCAKES, A YUMMY ORANGE FLAVORED TREAT!

I'm back friends. I know your probably wondering where the heck I went?. Well, things happen and sometimes you just need a break from it all and even if that includes blogging, right?. I survived one H.S graduation, one Middle School graduation and my daughter is entering her second year of college. We are also in the middle stages of purchasing our home. Yup, all that is happening around here and if you ever purchased a home recently or anytime in your life you know there are many bitter sweet and stressful moments. Besides the packing, and getting rid of items we DO NOT want to take with us, we are having yard sales too. yup! we are very busy. It's all so worth it! I can not wait to share my new home tour, the before!.

CREAMSICLE CUPCAKES: YUMMY!

These cupcakes really taste like creamsicle ice cream and I never thought I would be able to achieve the taste, but I did and my love and children loved them. Cream cheese frosting, sprinkles with orange zest and orange cake mix, a fluffy treat to bite into.

Ingredients/Supplies:

boxed orange cake mix
cream cheese frosting
orange extract
two oranges
creamsicle ice cream pop
cake plate
tooth picks
scrape booking paper chevron pattern (for flags)
polka-dot straws
eggs
olive oil
water
decorative cupcake liners
camera

Follow the directions on your cake mix packaging, the fun part is decorating.

SUMMER TIME SMURFIN BEACH CUPCAKES & CREAM CHEESE FROSTING

My sweet beachy cupcakes! made from ~~scratch~~ a box recipe. I will probably mention this in every cupcake post, until I actually learn how to make the batter from scratch. Until than, I use the box method and it turns out yummy every single time. My love and teens don't mind...

How about you? do you prefer box or made from scratch? I just love decorating my cupcakes, seriously that's why I bake, this time I even made six instead of a dozen.

Cute, I think they turned out adorable, and I decided to leave them without all the other stuff. Like, beach ball, sandals etc. I wanted a simple look.

I purchased a boxed cupcake recipe, from my local supermarket. I have plenty of icing from previous cupcakes that I baked (I usually buy several) and this time I used Cream Cheese frosting. :)

RECIPE

1 Boxed Yellow cake mix
Brown Sugar/light brown sugar
Cream Cheese Frosting
Aluminum Cupcake liners
3 eggs
1 1/2 cup of water
1/3 cup of oil (I use olive oil)
mix, mix and mix
12 cupcake baking pan
Party drink umbrellas (dollar store $1.00)
DIY cake stand spray paint Blue

I was so excited to make another cool DIY cake stand, for my cupcakes. Look at the cupcake

Blueberry YUM! It tastes delicious. I call them my Smurfin Cupcakes

I love some your brown sugar!...These taste so good and my son could not wait to have one. Funny he has to wait a 1 full day, since I couldn't find the umbrellas to finalize and take photos. So NO cupcakes for him till now. :)

BACKYARD BBQ!

A Kiddie Pool and a BBQ, so much fun on a HOT Saturday afternoon in Florida. But, We make the best of it and love to laugh, this is quit funny.

My love decided to BBQ and I love meat on the grille, so we had steak, sausage on the grille, pierogies, and corn on the cob. YUM! Good food and great company, fills the soul.

Do you enjoy grilling? who grilles in your home? and what types of food do your grill? we really enjoy grilling and wee grille as much as we can, and everything we get out hands on. Have you tried grilling shrimp or pineapples on the grille? delicious.

MODERN NIGHT STAND THE REVEAL! #SWpaintathon

The Reveal! is here, I am so excited to share my two toned Night Stand painted Parakeet by Sherwin-Williams with a Walnut stain. I kept the original handle, a nickel finish, with a natural wooden pull. The legs are original as well, and after sanding and painting I think this piece came together beautifully.

After a sanding this piece completely I fell in love with the natural look of the wood and had a hard time staining, and painting, but I think my final decision to paint and stain makes this piece look fresh and new, but still keeping its original look.

Notice how the legs tie in with the hardware on the pull.

A pop of color makes a this piece come to life.

The ceramic candle that I had around my home, looks gorgeous with this piece.

Before:

This piece was fun to refurbish. I really enjoy staining, I remember being so afraid to stain, thinking of blotches, irregular staining, and so many other issues that go with it. But, It turned out gorgeous and I am improving with every piece. Here is another look at the before!.

Before The Paint

I sanded using a 80 grit sanding block, then wiped clean to remove excess sanding dust.

After using Parakeet Green paint on a few coats allowing to dry in between coats. Tape off the areas you don't want painted first.

After cleaning the hardware with Brasso, they now look brand new.

This piece was in perfect condition, except for a small minor needed repair.

This piece was designed in pieces, like planks and one of the top pieces was slighted lifted, so I used my clamp (which I love) to hold it tightly in placed after applying liquid nail, which works better than wood glue. for this particular issue.

What do you think so far? Loving my Parakeet legs. I hope you are enjoying the month of May like I am. Refurbishing furniture is a passion and I can do it all day everyday.

DAY 2: MODERN NIGHT STAND...#SWpaintathon

If You Could Be Any Type Of Tree, What Tree Would
You Be? ~#Barbara Walters

I fell in love with this cute Modern Night Stand. I think its perfect for a bedroom, and even a bathroom. I love how how it looks sanded, a natural look to a modern piece. Wood planks creates the design to the top and sides. The top made of Maple wood and the sides made from oak.

Legs are sanded and now thinking if I should paint or re-stain the handle!.

Using a 80 grit sand paper, easily stripped the finish off this cute night stand. I use my orbital sander for all my sanding projects, unless I need to get into hard to reach places.

A dark walnut stain for the top and sides will look gorgeous, fresh and new. I am thinking of painting the drawer for a pop of color! possibly.....? do you have an idea of my color choice?

This piece is clean in style and in looks, she is going to look gorgeous stained.

MARGARITAVILLE & A SUCCULENT PLANTER!

My fiance laughed at me when I decided to paint this baby, because I needed something to paint and I am tired of collecting all these glasses. I was about to get rid of it when I decided to spray paint this LARGE Margaritaville Glass. We went on vacation last year to Universal Studios, Margaritaville is a Restaurant and it was my first time eating their. After buying this huge drink, it was placed in our hutch at home for over a year now, so now to get some real use out of it, I decided to spray paint her Gold and I purchase a cute succulent, what a perfect fit.

It looks original, like I purchased it this way. I love how the Gold looks like its painted between the glass, and there are no signs of drips, for a great look. The succulent cost only $3.99 not bad purchased from my local home store.

Using Gold Spray Paint, I decided this margarita glass needed a new look! I think this was the perfect solution, and adding a succulent looks even better!

A Simple DIY, try spray painting your glassware and use it as a pretty planter, maybe a glass you haven't used in a while. The ideas are endless.

WHY WE LOVE PASTA (AND YOU SHOULD, TOO!)

Gluten Free Pasta & Turkey Meatballs

Recipe

1 box of gluten free pasta (purchased at our local supermarket)
2 lbs ground turkey
Italian seasoning
ground lemon/pepper
garlic powder
roll into a balls
Dianne's Special Sauce mixture :)

These turned out yummy!

The pasta turned out really good. I am so picky, I didn't think I would like the taste...can't even tell the difference from gluten free and regular pasta. I am not a chef, but I know what I like. :)

For a while now, I have been thinking of cutting dairy and meats out from my meals, not sure yet! It's definitely a change in lifestyle.

Distance

by Sherwin Williams, Vintage MCM Dresser painted Distance and stained a Walnut finish.

After painted a few coats of Distance, I than allowed the drawers to dry 24 hrs. I used wipe on polyurethane to protect the finish and for a nice sheen, which dries quickly.

I love refurbishing vintage, why? because, these pieces show great craftsmanship, they tell a story and if they could talk...they would have a whole lot to tell. People owned these pieces years ago and they fell in love with them as well. I want to keep them in circulation for many more years to come.

Mother's Day is almost here, I love having all my children together with me on this very special day. They are growing up fast and I miss the days when they were itty bitty's. Mother's from all around the world deserves this special day, and many more...It's not an easy job, we wear many hats and our job is never done. But, we continue to love and spread it as far and wide as we can. So to all the moms Happy Mother's Day!

How do you spend your Mother's Day? with family and friends? I spend my day with my children and fiance. My mom passed away in 2002, so on mother's day I feel sad at times, because I miss her so much, but I have my children, and for that I am grateful.

DIY: ADORABLE PAPER COASTERS!

Do you use coasters? I usually don't but, I think crafting your own is really fun and cute. Oh! and a very inexpensive gift idea.

After purchasing a bag full of coasters from my local thrift store, I knew I could do something really cool, especially when they were already cut, and all I had to do was decorate them. I believe these were from an old restaurant that closed, and they donated the cork to the local thrift store.

60+ coaster for $2.00 bucks, not a bad deal. I was thinking about the craft idea for a while, I just wanted to do something a little different (I'm pretty sure the same idea is out there). I have so many sheets of scrap booking paper, so I decided to use up some of it for my coaster craft idea. (PS the left over from cutting out my circle shapes, will be used for another diy) :)

Patterns are endless

Supplies:

Modge Podge (To seal the paper from getting wet)
pencil
scissors
scrap booking paper
cork coaster
Liquid Nail (for durability)

How To:

Place your sheet of scrap booking paper on a flat surface (I used my dining table), using your pencil trace your cork and continue until you've used up all the paper, cut the circles, spread liquid nail or glue of choice to the cork and adhere your cut circle to the cork smooth and viola! allow to dry for 15-30 minutes, than spread your modge podge over the top to protect the paper from getting wet. (If you are not using them for drinks they make great spot for a candle).

Try it so much fun and I love the look, modern and chic.

DAY 4: VINTAGE MCM DRESSER GETS REFURBISHED! #SWpaintathon

DISTANCE, NOT TOO FAR AWAY, BUT CLOSE ENOUGH! This color is so serene, calming, spiritual, and Blue. I love this color and how it fits right in with the Modern era design style today. A color that says so much and makes a piece look brand new instantly, as if this was the original color.

Take a good look at the before, some TLC is needed for sure.

Would you stain or paint?

She is in sad shape, but with as little sanding and repair she will look brand new.

If you don't have one of these Skil Orbital Sanders, you must go out and buy one now. This will work and take care all your sanding needs. I love this machine and I love the fact that you don't need to buy the exact sandpaper from this company, you can purchase any sand paper with Velcro, that is round. All grits available too. I used a 60 grit for this dresser, it removed the flaky varnish like it was nothing, I love when a job comes together.

- 60 grit for rough wood or old finish removal
- 120 grit for general wood sanding
- 240 grit for final finishing of wood and other surfaces for a smooth feel and look

Lovely, she looks gorgeous already. So. have you decided on the Finish yet?

DAY 3: #SWpaintathon CLEANING YOUR HARDWARE

I't's Not Brass After All!

I was so excited to finally clean my hardware, the hardware I thought was brass. It turned out to be a silver finish and I'm okay with that, I really think this piece is to going to turnout gorgeous no matter the finish. :) An MCM (Mid century Modern) piece with silver hardware is going to look gorgeous, sleek with a hint of contemporary, I think.

I cleaned the hardware enough to see what the metal really looked like, and yes it's silver. I decided to go for another round of deep cleaning using Brasso. This stuff works great, just Be sure to work in a well ventilated area (I simply cover) the hardware after I pour Brasso on each piece, smearing it all over. After waiting 15-30 minutes before I scrub using another rag, they are looking good so far.

Step 1:

Lay your hardware on a very wet cloth or paper towel, than pour Brasso all over, soak another rag and place over your hardware, allowing the Brasso to penetrate the metal leave for 15-30 minutes or until you think it's ready for a good wipe/scrub.

Step 2: Sometimes this needs to be repeated for more stubborn aged pieces.

It almost looks rusted

another cleaning, and I think they are ready to attach to the drawers. After

cleaning them, they have a hammered look, but that can be due to aging.

Brasso is sold at your local hardware and home stores.

A wonderful, colorful Interior Design book, filled with inspiration and so much eye candy in one place. I can hardly stand it. I love flipping through the pages of a design book that has you "drooling" at every page. I love the mix of color and life, and how life is simply that "full of color", stopping to smell the roses is just that, taking a moment to absorb your surroundings to breath in the natural beauty of the natural that surrounds us everyday!. To capture and indulge in everyday moment's, color is a way of making decisions on things (home accessories), how we differentiate between items that we want and those that we can do without.

Mr. Bazaar

Will Taylor, put into perspective the full hue of color and what it has to offer, from flowers to buildings to chairs and fabric, color is a "Happy Day", color is all around us. For me, color is "anything you want it to be". I love color, and when I refurbish a piece of furniture, it speaks to me the color it wants to be. Color can make anything look pretty again, color is it's character!.

DAY 2: #SWpaintathon 4 PROJECTS 4 WEEKS! "ONE VINTAGE PIECE AT A TIME" VINTAGE MCM DRESSER

Vintage dresser drawers, primed and painted. Ready for Hardware. I have two more drawers waiting for paint. Those two needed some repair, so I was able to fix, now ready to sand, prime than paint. In the mean time I will begin cleaning the hardware, come back, Day 3: Cleaning Brass hardware full of patience. Here is look after some very minor repair primed and painted Distance by Sherwin Williams

Step One: I took the drawers outside to sand, due to the age of this piece the varnish was already flaking and it was no longer a good idea to keep in the house in that condition, so I took them outside and simply used a scrapper, it came right off, next I used my favorite tool, the orbital sander. After filling small holes using wood filler and making minor repairs. Priming was next and this rolled on easy, and smooth. I love when a project comes together, afterwards I wiped the drawers clean using a damp rag, to remove excess sanding dust.

Step 2: After sanding and priming, allow to dry for a few hours before rolling on the first coat. Another favorite painting tool is a sponge roller, this is the best for me so far. Fast and easy, paints evenly and doesn't show roller marks. Remember to sand between coats for a smoother look and feel.

Step 3: Painting the drawers Distant Blue by Sherwin Williams, I love this color. I am attracted to Blue's, but my favorite color is Purple!. I decide this Blue was the perfect color for a perfect MCM dresser, I think it has a modern hue to it and dries perfectly. With a hint of Grey this color will be around for a long time in the Modern Color Pallet (hey Modern Color Pallet not a bad idea) add this color. :)

Step 4: Allow to dry following directions on the paint can, I just wait a few hours to apply the final coat, why? because originally I am adding a very thin first coat and the second coat goes on a little thicker sanding between coats. Your final coat (third coat) should be heavier and apply evenly, allow to dry overnight and sand lightly using a 220-grit sanding block (I love using them) once dried. Once the piece is actually done drying etc it takes a few days to for the paint to cure. All paints cure differently, so again read labels first.

Today starts my painting adventure, using Sherwin Williams Paints, (only) for the entire month of May. I am so excited, I really enjoy using #SWpaints, and all the beautiful selection of colors they have available is amazing to me!. I really enjoy painting and choosing colors for my clients.

When I see a piece of furniture, I know the exact color of paint for that particular piece, and if I am not sure (rarely) I resort to my Home & Garden Magazines for inspiration.

There is never a dull moment, I am always painting and if I am not painting, I find something to paint.

Color makes me happy, painting furniture makes me happy, and saving pieces from landfills makes me feel like I am contributing to help save my environment in some way.

A SIMPLE DIY: A PINK GLASS CAKE PLATE, LOOKS LIKE PORCELAIN!

I stumbled upon a large Goodwill store, she is the mother load of all Goodwill locations in my area. I couldn't believe all the stuff they have. From furniture to porcelain sinks, nails to lighting. I am so glad that I found this location. We are purchasing a new home soon and this will be a great place for some of our inexpensive purchases during the makeover process. They even have kitchen cabinets. sadly taken from homes that were possibly torn down or suffered the process of a foreclosure. Goodwill stores and many other thrift stores have many items at great prices!. Although I didn't purchase furniture I did buy two glass candle holders, in perfect condition and perfect for my cupcake plate stand, (remember I have a cupcake fetish)?. as for the two crystal candle holders they were only $2.00 a piece, not a bad deal.

A Pink on Pink display, I love Pink such a chic and classic color.

Supply List:

Liquid Nail
Glass candle stick holders
Glass plate
Pink spray paint
flat surface to work on

How To:

Take your glass plate and glass candle sticks out doors to paint. placing them on a flat surface for even coats. Spray on at least two coats and allow to dry for 1 hour, sometimes I allow my pieces to dry over night, again follow the manufacturers instructions. After drying take inside a squeeze a bead of liquid nail on the bottom of your candle stick, place on top of your plate, white plate is still upside down. Be sure not to spray the entire plate since your will be using it for food display. TIP 1: Always attach your candle stick while the plate is upside down so you can center your candle stick properly to the plate. Allow to dry overnight!. TIP 2: spray paint your glass plate first, this will hide the liquid nail.
