Today I am sharing a layout made using left over Christmas paper. I used patterns that did not have an actual Christmas pattern on it and was able to pair it up with a fall photo that I had laying around to scrap from 2010 =)

Happy New Year!!!

Sorry for such a neglect in the blogging world lately--- It's that time of year when everything seems to get very busy and it was no exception in my household. We spent several weeks celebrating starting in early December when my nephew came back home for a visit and the festivities didn't stop until New Years Day =)

*Exciting News*

Above and beyond the typical holiday festivities--- on New Years Eve my boyfriend of seven years got down on one knee and proposed to me! I'm ENGAGED! Yay ;)

Yes-- I was taken by surprise! We had plans to go out for a late night dinner so I was getting ready and stepped outside to get the car warmed up, Baz calls for me to come inside and when I walk in he is in my bedroom on one knee, pulls out the ring box and asks if I will marry him. It was perfect.

One of my favorite performances I have ever seen was about 10 years ago by Cirque Du Soleil in Disney World at Downtown Disney, I fell in love with their acrobatic performance and fun bright colors. Cirque Du Soleil is French for Circus Of The Sun and I think their performance matched the name perfectly! When I saw the Basic Grey collection "Soleil" the name brought me back to seeing that show and the colors were a fun mixture just like the performance, I only have one picture from that day but this collection makes me want to go back to see it again (and of course take more pictures) ;]

But for today I have this card I made using the collection:

And here is the sketch that inspired the card:

Today I have a double page sketch to share along with a layout I created using this sketch.

For more sketches check out my book: Designs By Ashley Rock: 12x12 Scrapbook Sketches Volume One.

This layout is from last August when I went with my sister and niece to Charleston, SC to visit my nephew Tommy for a week--- it was amazing, I absolutely LOVE the south, from the beautiful 200+ year old live oak tree's to the haunted buildings and culture. While exploring the lively downtown area of Charleston we stopped off at The Battery Carriage House Inn across from Battery Park to see if we could see this infamous ghost that resides at the inn---- I don't know the story behind it yet but what I do know is there is a headless male ghost that stays at the inn and is rumored to hop on in with some of the female guests who decide to stay there..... So we were off to check out this ghost, we walked around the inn and went through the garden and checked all the windows but there were no headless men walking around =[.

However--- later when I got home I noticed that the only pictures that were blurry were from inside the Battery Carriage Inn--- and not only that but every photo I took of Tommy, Mariah and Angel they had a body part blurred out or missing, coincidence??? Hmmmmmmmm.....
On October 1st I posted this double page layout sketch:

But this sketch does not have to be used just for layouts, Sybrina K has a lovely Christmas/New Years card that she made using the sketch above:

To create this card Sybrina focused on the left page of the double page sketch and simply replaced the photo spot for a sentiment! I absolutely love the layering circle's she made as an embellishment along with her sub title----- and what a great idea to include a "Happy New Year" along with the Merry Christmas, Thanks Sybrina for sharing how you turned a layout sketch into a card.

Sketch Of The Month: October 2012

Welcome October! I don't know why but I am always so surprised by the coming of a new month, you would think I'd be prepared at least once but no-- as always I cant believe it's here already! Not to mention it's the month that begins all the seasonal holidays, bring on Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years--- but let's not get ahead of ourselves!!

Today I have a layout to share with you that I made for Cord Scrapbook Studio using the BoBunny "Camp-A-Lot" collection! This collection is great for so many different things such as camping trips, wondering around in the woods, bike rides, fishing, picnics, trips to the park or any ol' guy thing! It could just be me, or an Ohio thing--- I am not sure, but I am obsessed with the outdoors and random adventures so this line had my name written alllllllll over it!

I am always up for an adventure, especially when it is a new place that I have not yet been to! Tiffany and I had set out to Hocking Hills and went to Cantwell Cliffs to take pictures and enjoy nature. We spent a good hour or so hiking before setting off to try another park--- only after a few minutes in the car the GPS lost signal and we could not find our way to the next park (what did we do before GPS again?) With nowhere to stop and ask directions we back tracked our steps to get us back to the main freeway, slightly disappointed that our adventure ended sooner than we wanted we began to head home. It didn't take long for our disappointment to wear off, we soon were distracted by a sign directing to Clear Creek Metro Park (perhaps a "sign" saying "your adventure is not over!"), neither of us having ever been there we both looked at each other and said "Let's Go!".

We arrive at Clear Creek within minutes, it was not far off the freeway at all. Excited we get out our camera and walk along the grassy path enjoying the view of the lake and trees along the way. After a while we decide we better turn around and head back before the sun begins to set. We make it most of the way back without a hitch, until I feel something brush against my legs and I do a little jump, Tiffany turns around and starts screaming and running! Now I know if Tiffany is running than I need to book it, so without even knowing what brushed up against my legs I run and run and run while screaming and yelling at Tiffany to tell me what it was that touched me! We stop running once we are close enough to the parking lot and Tiffany catches her breath enough to tell my it was a snake and it was approx 3ft long and in mid air when she saw it. I'm not typically scared of snakes but a 3ft snake in mid air attempting to attack my legs is one I am not a fan of either.

Happy and a bit overwhelmed in the success of our adventure we get in the car to take off and head home, back to the city where snakes don't typically randomly attack people. Only---- half way home I realize I don't have my cell phone anymore. Oh no, I need my phone! So after a 5 second debate we head back to death valley and put on our brave faces as we tip toe on grounds we once peacefully walked along not even an hour before to look for my phone. Unsuccessful at finding my phone we determined the snake must have taken it since its attack on me did not satisfy him. We once again head back home only to first stop by Verizon to get me a new phone..... Naturally they man working there asked what happened to my phone, I took a deep breath and told him my story while Tiffany is hysterically laughing. I really am not sure he believed me, he had the strangest look of disbelief on his face--- I swear Verizon guy, it's true! (I can not make this stuff up!).

Finally, I am back home and must start messaging everyone for their numbers (because I am not smart enough to do the backup online, oops), imagine telling this story 105x! Oh boy, it definitely made for a good laugh. Next time, I will be sure to make my phone first priority when running.
Today's post is using the material from BoBunny's "Camp-A-Lot" Collection--- I made this card for Cord Scrapbook Studio.

I left the title on this card blank because I am not sure exactly what occasion I want to use it for yet. I always seem to have a harder time coming up with guy cards (mainly because I love flowers and super sparkly bling oh so much). But I love that it is a generic guy card so when the time comes I can easily slap on any sentiment for when something pops up. I have a lot of friends who are graduating and going on to interviews for their first major career, perhaps a birthday coming up or a get well soon card.... either way which ever comes first I am for once prepared! I really should make cards like this more often.

So this post is not scrapbook or craft related, but it could help you save money to buy more supplies (so it's kinda related... right? I know-- it's a stretch, lol). Anyway, I came across this website last week called Recyclebank and basically it's a site where you read articles, play games, take quizzes to earn points. Your points accumulate and then you can trade your points in for items as small as coupons of everyday household cleaning products to items as big as $10 gift cards to places like Steak and Shake or Walmart.

I just opened this account last week and I've already redeemed points for $10 off two entree's at Ruby Tuesday and a $10 Ruby Tuesday Giftcard, so I was pretty excited about it and wanted to spread the word along to you! (Hmm--- that sounds like a sales pitch, it's not, I promise) Anywho, if this is the type of thing your into I definitely suggest checking it out =]. Click Here to take a looksie.

Bazzill Wayfarer: Banjul Market!

Today I am sharing with you another layout that I made for Cord Scrapbook Studio using the Bazzill Wayfarer Collection! I highly, highly, highly recommend this line, I love the texture and weight to this collection, not to mention the patterns and colors are stunning too!

I have been noticing in pictures that most of the tshirts I wear are scrapbook vendor tshirts--- LOL. You know you are a scrap-addict when most of your wardrobe consists of scrapbook vendor tshirts! I always get a lot of questions and comments on them too--- love it!

One hot afternoon I wandered off to the Banjul Market with Baz and his sister Koria, I was on a mission to buy some fabric to get some traditional african outfits made. We are walking around looking at all the different patterns and textures, I love it, it is like buying scrapbook paper that you can have turned into an outfit! I purchased a couple different fabrics and as we are walking around I spot this man selling watermelons. In The Gambia you can really only buy food that is in season and for whatever reason while I am there I get the strangest cravings, I had been telling Baz for about a week at that point that I need a watermelon, I just have to have one. So, when I saw that man across the way selling slices of watermelon I was overwhelmed with joy! I yelled for Baz and Koria and ran over to that man and got what my little heart (or perhaps, stomach) had been desiring. It was the tastiest watermelon I ever ate, and I was on cloud 9! After consuming my watermelon I was at peace............ until the next day when I craved pizza, oye!
Today I am sharing with you a double page layout that I made for Cord Scrapbook Studio using the Bazzill "wayfarer" collection. This collection may be one of my absolute favorite lines, (it's so hard to have a favorite but this is def in the running!). I really like the soft colors and the patterns that went along with this collection, it is a fabulous travel line!

This layout is of the actual traveling Baz and I did to get from Ohio to The Gambia, which trust me, was an adventure all on its own (And it's a good thing I LOOOOVE adventures)! We left for the Columbus airport around 8am on a Saturday morning all bright and perky, filled with excitement to see Baz's family. Everything goes fairly smoothly (and by fairly smoothly, I mean we didn't end up having to leave the Columbus Airport and reschedule another flight for the next day out of a Washington DC airport and drive all the way there in a rush like the last time--- but that's a whole other travel story!) Like I was saying--- "fairly smoothly", we get checked in and go through the scanner, I go through no problem but Baz's pants with "bling" on them set off the detector (whoops, we forgot about that!) so he gets the extra pat down, which by now he is used to--- his name usually gets him the extra pat down anyway. We are grabbing his carry on's when he suddenly realizes he cant find his green card, a fairly big problem to have while in an airport and leaving/entering the country. I'm trying to calm him down and telling him to check certain places, his pockets, wallet, outside zippers but it does not help because he is freaking out. The airport workers are all looking around trying to help him find it, checking under machines and everything, after about 3 minutes which felt more like 30 Baz found it--- in his back pocket. Men.

So after that minor fiasco we board our first flight, a little over an our to JFK where we have our layover. Once we arrive we get lunch and browse around until our next flight which we board perfectly fine and prepare ourselves for the next 7 hours in the air. Thank God our flights were relatively smooth because when we landed in Senegal we had enough energy for all the chaos, we got through customs fine, got the passports stamped and headed off to get out luggage---- which is where the chaos began. Now, African airports aren't quite as organized as American ones in the first place so I don't have high expectations to begin with, but I have to say I was not prepared when we arrived at the luggage area, stood around for about 15 minutes and then all the airline workers decide since the conveyor belts are not working to go ahead and just throw everyone luggage out on the floor for people to trample over each other and find our own bags and it's not just our flight's luggage either, there were about two other planes full of people whose luggage was all thrown everywhere. I stood off to the side with the carry on's while Baz went into the crazy crowd (imagine everybody there is a pre-teen and the luggage is Justin Bieber--- that's what it was like!) After about an hour Baz managed to find all 4 of our bags and we went outside to meet his friend Yusuf who was waiting for us.

From there the three of us caught a taxi to get us to the car park. A car park is pretty much a large parking lot filled with cars from the late 1980's early 1990's with certain cars set to go to certain long distant routs. You find a car that is traveling where you are wanting to go and looks like it wont be breaking down on the way--- Yusuf does this for us because he is a pro! Now we just have to wait for other people to come who are heading the same place as us but that did not take long,I am not sure weather I attracted the other passengers to the car or if it was just a coincidence but after I sat down to wait two other white people who I could tell were not traveling together end up in the same car. Being my second time traveling here I knew this was not the typical tourist way of traveling, it was more of the way locals went so I was surprised. We all settle in for the 7 hour drive and set off on the long, dusty, bumpy road. I find out along the ride the one lady is from Germany and she was visiting because she heard how amazing it was and she wanted to travel in such a way as locals do to gain full experience, we talked about Germany, The Gambia and America. The second girl was sitting in the seat behind me in a packed car so it was hard to try and talk to her but at one of the rest stops at a local market we started talking and I was excited to find out she is a fellow American who was in the Peace Corps and stationed in The Gambia! I was meeting up with some Peace Corps people in a few days for some supplies I had shipped to donate to them and she had heard about me and the supplies, it's funny how small the world can be!

Several hours later we arrive at the car park near the boarder, from there we take a donkey cart to get to the actual boarder. We go in and get our passports straightened out and then take a taxi to get us to Barra, a city in The Gambia where we need to get on our next transportation system----- a ferry boat! We sit there waiting for the boat and buy some bread and water from the vendors to tide us over for now. All 3 of the boats were up and running so it was not too long of a wait, only about 20 mins. We get our tickets and board the ferry along with hundreds of other passengers. We sit and relax as the wind blows on us and keeps us all cooled off, I buy another water from a vendor on the boat and watch as the ferry begins to dock, our journey to our destination is nearly over. We get off the ferry and catch our last taxi that will take us to Baz's family compound, as we pull up everyone is out front awaiting our arrival and the happiness and tears begin! We have made it home safely.

Travel Summery:
*1 short plane ride
*1 long plane ride
*1 taxi ride
*1 looong shared car ride
*1 donkey cart ride
*1 more taxi ride
*1 ferry ride
*1 last taxi ride
And all with 4 checked type of luggage, 2 book bags and 2 carry on size luggage. Lol, We have become traveling pro's.
Hellllo September! I love September, particularly because it is my birthday month =) In just a couple of days (the 4th actually) I will officially be 26! I'm not too sure yet what I have in store for my birthday, but surely I will find something fun to do ;)

Now, onto more important things----- Septembers Sketch!

Of course that is not all that Pizazz It! is up to, if you have ever dreamed of having your own hand writing as a font now you can! We've always said how important it is to have at least a little of your own hand writing in your albums to pass down for generations but if your anything like me, it's just easier to type it out rather than try to perfect my own hand writing every time, so I am really excited for this because it definitely is the best of both worlds!

Mornin', today I have a double page layout that I designed for Cord Scrapbook Studio using Echo Park's "Homemade" collection.

This is yet another layout that I made from my last trip to The Gambia--- I think I may be scrapping this trip FOREVER! Lol. The layout is of Baz's family's compound (home) where his mom, dad, brothers, sisters and many other cousins, aunts, uncles all live together. In the common area where everybody hangs out, does laundry and pretty much spends most of their time the ground has always been dirt which is standard for Gambian compounds, but Baz wanted to make it not only look much nicer but make it easier to keep everything clean (imagine all the dirt simply from all those people running in and out of the house all day!), so he had it tiled and boy did it turn out beautifully! It only took about 3 days to complete and their compound looks so different! Everybody loved it, it is a great feeling knowing that we were able to do this for his family and as time goes on hopefully we will still be able to help them out to improve their living standards, one step at a time.

Material List:

*Kraft Cardstock (2)

*Sticker Accents

*Homemade Stripe
