NOAH is very excited about taking another step forward in our outreach to the Albinism Community. Through the growing social networks like Twitter and YouTube we hope to reach even more people effected by Albinism. As well we hope to give our existing members new and exciting ways to engage with others in the Albinism Community.

Google has given NOAH their own YouTube channel which provides the platform we need to publish our videos. As well has made us much more aware of all the great video content NOAH Members have produced. Please check out the NOAH’s YouTube Channel and watch our videos, which include Connecting the Albinism Community and our Albinism The People the Challenge video. The Albinism The People the Challenge video is still for sale on DVD and VHS if you would prefer. If you have Albinism related content on YouTube please share it with us via YouTube. We will consider linking back if it is family friendly.

Twitter

There is a ton of content added to our Forums and Blogs on daily basis. Keeping up with them all can be time consuming. So we have started sending Tweets as content is added. So follow us at NOAHForums on Twitter.

NOAH is always looking for ways to engage the Albinism Community and we hope these recent additions will help us all to stay involved. Some amazing creatures have moved into the neighborhood at Longwood Gardens!

The new Indoor Children's Garden will delight young and old with one-of-a-kind artisan elements, an amazing palette of plants to discover and fun encounters around every corner.

Longwood's new Indoor Children's Garden provides a safe and engaging space where children can be surrounded by plants and discover the joys of being in a garden. See a listing of plants used in the Indoor Children's Garden.

The Indoor Children's Garden features:

The Central Cove, with a tree-covered seating area, a central pool with flower-shaped water jets and jewel-like mosaics, and three animal adorned sculptures shooting streams of water from overhead into the pool. Children will move from the Central Cove into the Rain Pavilion, which features water curtains on two sides. Look up and you will see the glass ceiling allowing a view of water running overhead.

· The Secret Room is home to the Drooling Dragon water feature, and a balcony that overlooks the Central Cove.

· The Ramp, accented by an ever-changing Water Curtain and animated by the leaping water “glow worm,” leads children to a Tower overlooking the Bamboo Maze. Water runs down the glow worm into a swallowing salamander at the bottom of the ramp.

· The Grotto Cave, underneath the Tower, contains a shallow fog-covered pool activated by water dripping from sculpted snakes coiled overhead.

· The Bamboo Maze offers a jungle of tree-size bamboos for children to explore. The Maze contains five visitor-activated water features accented with ornate bird sculptures.

The garden is handicap accessible. A surrounding walkway allows “grown” children to enjoy the garden as well as keep an eye on the action. With 17 fountains in the garden to enjoy, children will want to splash and play, so an extra shirt or small towel might come in handy.

Activity Two: Adult Social Hour

What: Come socialize with other adult NOAH members

Table will be reserved under “NOAH” this should help us all find each other.

Upon entering the restaurant just let the hostess know you are with the NOAH party.

Just a short CTA bus ride from the conference location, what could be more fun than playing and having fun with friends old and new from the albinism community?

During this critical time of development it is essential to become aware of behaviors and skills that can be addressed early on. Learn about adaptations that you can make in your home, activities that enhance visual performance as well as developing the use of other senses.

2008 Conference Session - The Visual System in Albinism: New Avenues of Understanding and Treatment
The purpose of this session is to summarize the instructor's experience with, and provide the theoretical basis of recommendations for medical and surgical treatments of the visual system abnormalities associated with albinism. There will be a focus on our modern understanding of the visual system in albinism and how it is clinically evaluated. Discussions regarding indications for and types of medical and surgical treatment techniques will be discussed. There will some data presented and time for the audience to ask questions. At the conclusion of this lecture, the attendee will acquire knowledge that may assist in promoting vision and visual function in patients with albinism.

2008 Conference Session - Vision in Albinism - Structure and Function
This session includes an overview of the eye and how it works, how vision develops, and then focus on the functional and structural differences in an individual with albinism. Include in the presentation will be an explanation of refractive errors, use of eyeglasses and contact lenses, and methods used to treat the eye problems in albinism, including surgery.

2008 Conference Session - What parents need to know about IDEIA
The Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act (IDEIA) is the special education law that entitles students with disabilities to a free and appropriate education. Its effect on our society has been far reaching and profound. The implementation and enforcement of IDEIA have not only provided the impetus for students with disabilities to be integrated and accepted in schools and universities but have also influenced integration and acceptance of people with disabilities in the workplace and within society as a whole. This session will cover the most important principles parents should know about IDEIA and how the law relates to students with visual impairments. This session will include a discussion on the parents' role in the development of their child's IEP. How to work with the school system, what to ask for, following-up on services, and making necessary changes. Learn how to best collaborate to work within the system to address the individual needs of your child.
