Author John, Nores does an extraordinary and brilliant job in writing and presenting such an incredible and intense story of "War in The Woods: Combating the Marijuana Cartels on America's Public Lands in California. A glimpse of dangerous clandestine drug operation missions conducted by California Fish and Game Wardens and Federal & Local Joint Intra-Agency, Marijuana Eradication Team (MET) members.

I’ve seen my share of warriors preparing to go into harm’s way! The detail descriptions of these special operation team members suiting up, checking their weapons & equipment and planning their missions prior to going onto their operations, is one that brings to me many memories having served in U.S. Army Special Forces Counter-Drug operations overseas.

Altogether the story is fascinating action packed and immediately captures my attention, as I am able to envision every scene, as if I were part of the team members moving through the woods during their clandestine operations. My heart begins to beat faster, as my blood starts pumping harder, as John Nores and his special operations team members moved closer for the kill or chase to capture of drug cartel operatives.

You can read and witness the horrors of death and fear in combating drug cartel operatives in our own national forest. The characters are so realistic, that I could feel, smell and share their emotions during their survival and facing death from this phenomenal enemy and hostile environment in our public lands!

California Fish and Game Wardens, the unsung heroes of our national wild lands, are the first line of defense. I salute these men for their extraordinary and courageous work in combating clandestine marijuana operatives in exploitation and destruction of our public lands.

It was an incredible day at the Ranger Lost Patrol Reunion & Book Signing Event: Desperate Lands!

It was such an honor and privilege to meet such legendary warriors and friends during this event! The event was held at the Double Tree Hotel, in Columbus, Georgia on 24-25-26 June 2010. I Thank everyone for your Troop Support and for buying my book Desperate Lands: The War on Terror Through The Eyes of a Special Forces Soldier.

It had been over 30 years since I had spoken or worked together with these legendary U.S. Army Rangers, and Special Forces friends. All I could remember was that we once worked & served together with C company, 2nd Battalion, 75th Rangers in Fort Lewis, Washington during our military careers in 1975 thru 1979. There were others who I had recently worked with, while I was in Africa and Afghanistan. All I can say is Memories Are Forever!

Our days went by sharing old stories from our past and wondering of certain friends and of their where abouts! Some were still on active duty working on the dark side in U.S. Special Operations, while others were working on world wide security contracts around the world. Some may say, why would someone ever want to work as a private contractor overseas especially in a war zone in Iraq and Afghanistan? There are many reasons! I salute these men for their Dedication & Service to our Country!

We were invited by a friend and given the opportunity to get a personal tour of the business opportunity in the world in private security overseas contractors working in war zones Iraq and Afghanistan and around the world. A tour of a spectacular private contactors facility, capable of training highly specialized personnel from the Department of Defense, Military, Law Enforcement Agencies and other foreign government business contractors. A job opportunity is there do you want it? For how long is the contract overseas and how dangerous is it? Frequent questions asked by selected few who desire the work.

Writing and Publishing Book Release: Desperate Lands

Regulo Zapata Jr. says, "The book has finally been published and released!"

It took 1-year to write the story and 10-months to actually get the book edited. It took many months of research and contacting fellow soldiers from my unit.

It took several months to come to an agreement on the book page layout design, and another few months to develop the front and back book cover design.

It took another two months researching which printing company was the best to print the book. The final decision was to get the book printed near the beautiful Great Lakes, Dexter, Michigan by Thomson-Shore Inc Printing.

I do have to say that it has been a very exciting and challenging experience working in the book publishing business world. It was all worth the effort!

I am willing to help others and share more details as to what it takes to get your own book published, especially for those inspiring authors who are interested in writing your own book.

Please feel free to call me! I am happy of the book release in the Gilroy, California community, so that others can read and understand of the difficulties we had in fighting the war on terror in Africa, Afghanistan and along the Pakistan border.

I have been asked many times why I decided to write a book called Desperate Lands? I would simply say that I wanted to share my extraordinary journey through ancient and desperate lands at the front lines of this on going war.

Should Women Be Allowed In Combat?

Do you feel that military women should be allowed in a combat zone ?

The question is, why? Aren’t women supposed to be kept out of units that may see combat?

The Pentagon is implementing new military plans that will make the concept of women in combat a reality.

The Center for Military Readiness warned that the Pentagon is flouting policies mandated by Congress in an effort to implement politically correct policies that increase the number of uniformed women put into harm’s way.

Others suggest the Pentagon tinkering with rules forbidding women in combat is a clear effort to increase boots on the ground as the troop-strapped DoD faces manpower shortages in Iraq, Afghanistan and elsewhere around the globe.

Several female U.S. soldiers have thus far been killed in combat in Iraq and many more have been seriously wounded.

Female combat pilots and military police (patrolling the streets of Iraq and Afghanistan, for instance) are a recognized part of Congress’s loosening of the restriction on the roles females can play in combat operations, even though there remains fixed in the rule book a regulation that exempts women from direct ground combat units that engage in deliberate offensive action against the enemy.
