Comment: Lively song, blended well with the orchestra. I'll give a B+.

Comment: Lack of "punch" in this song.. Poor arrangement. Just a "B".

3.   KEKANDA ADINDA: Composer - Loque, Singers - Atilia & Monolque.
Comment: Just a "so-so" song.. Not a real treat. Just a "B".

4.   GADIS SEMASA: Composer - Yuna, Singer - Yuna
Comment: Good composition, catchy number... Good performance too.. In the running for the top positions. I'll give an "A".

5.   KALAU BERPACARAN: Composers/Singers - Sohaimi Mior Hassan/Ana Raffali/Altimet.
Comment: OK, not a bad song. Good blend though... Just a "B+".

6.   CINTA MUKA BUKU: Composers - Najwa Latif/Ika Latif, Singer - Najwa latif.
Comment: Too raw.., too simple (chord flow). Maybe nice to hear, but not in terms of song composition. Just a "B-".

7.   KARMA: Composers - Audi Mok/Faizal Tahir, Singer - Faizal Tahir.
Comment: Good composition, nice performance from the singer, good vocals too... In line for one of the awards. I'll give an "A".

8.   KISAH HATI: Composer - Manusia Putih, Singer - Alyah.
Comment: One of the best song to contest (in terms of composition), with all the high notes, modulations and wide vocal range. Difficult to sing... I'll give an "A".

9.   SUNGAI LUI: Composers - Aizat/Anas Amdan, Singer - Aizat.
Comment: Looks simple, but it's a nice composition with good music arrangements in it. Diffficult to predict this song.. I'll give an "A" too.

10. PENAKUT: Composer - Yuna, Singer - Yuna
Comment: Unique song, in terms of a Malay composition. Something new to our ears. Need time to absorb this sort of song. I wonder what the judges are thinking now.... I'll give a "B+".

11. AWAN NANO: Composers - M. Nasir/Budi Hikayat, Singer - Hafiz
Comment: You really have to get into this song to appreciate it... A unique composition by M.Nasir. It's a new trend in composing, that "ta ti ta ti ta ti ta" sound.. Very nice and sounds different from other songs... I'll give an "A+" (if you don't mind)...

12. BERIBU SESALAN: Composers - Kevin Chin/Tinta, Singer - 3 Suara.
Comment: Just another ballad, sung by 3 voices. Nothing unique... Just a "B" to me...

It's LIVERPOOL again !!!
Liverpool beat Man Utd 2-1 in an explosive 4th round FA Cup tie at Anfield last night.
In a span of 4 days - Liverpool have kicked out both Manchester clubs - beating Man City 3-2 on aggregate in the Carling's Cup semi-final last Wednesday, and then beating Man Utd 2-1 in the FA Cup 4th round yesterday.
That's quite an achievement...

Liverpool went 1-up in the 21st minute, when Daniel Agger headed home off a corner kick by Steven Gerrard. United equalised through Park Ji-Sung in the 39th minute, after a scramble in the Liverpool's penalty area. Half time score was 1-1.
Patrice Evra, who caused Liverpool's Luis Suarez an eight-match ban, was booed all the way from start to finish, by the home fans. He was also the one responsible for the winning goal, scored by Dirk Kuyt in the 88th minute. He was there in front of goal, did nothing, but see Kuyt scored his 50th goal for Liverpool - en route to winning the Cup tie, defeating Man Utd 2-1. Luis Suarez, in the grand stand - was the happiest man last night...
I guess, justice was done !!

My family attended a wedding feast (kenduri) in Kangar Garden, here in Kangar, this afternoon.
It was a simple one, but what a wonderful atmosphere. As Malaysians, all races were there - Malays, Chinese and Indians get together to enjoy the feast - hosted by my friend, Mr. Idrus Md Daud. His eldest son got married.

Hi... I'm in PakBara, Satun, Thailand, today...
We took off from Kangar, this morning - around 10.00am. It took quite a while (more than an hour) to declare our travel documents at the Wang Prachan checkpoint (border) because there were quite a number of travelers/tourist visiting Thailand today. Maybe it's because of the Chinese New Year holidays in Malaysia.
Anyway, after all those stuff - we went straight to PakBara, about 65 km from the border. We went around the small town of PakBara, had lunch and then found this beautiful chalet to stay for the night.

The Earth is experiencing a geomagnetic storm today - the strongest in 6 years..
The Northern Hemisphere is the most affected part of the Earth.
What is this Geomagnetic Storm?

A geomagnetic storm is a temporary disturbance of the Earth's magnetosphere caused by a disturbance in the interplanetary medium. A geomagnetic storm is a major component of space weather and provides the input for many other components of space weather. A geomagnetic storm is caused by a solar wind shock wave and/or cloud of magnetic field which interacts with the Earth's magnetic field. The increase in the solar wind pressure initially compresses the magnetosphere and the solar wind magnetic field will interact with the Earth’s magnetic field and transfer an increased amount of energy into the magnetosphere. Both interactions cause an increase in movement of plasma through the magnetosphere (driven by increased electric fields inside the magnetosphere) and an increase in electric current in the magnetosphere and ionosphere. During the main phase of a geomagnetic storm, electric current in the magnetosphere create magnetic force which pushes out the boundary between the magnetosphere and the solar wind. The disturbance in the interplanetary medium which drives the geomagnetic storm may be due to a solar coronal mass ejection (CME) or a high speed stream (co-rotating interaction region or CIR) of the solar wind originating from a region of weak magnetic field on the Sun’s surface. The frequency of geomagnetic storms increases and decreases with the sunspot cycle. CME driven storms are more common during the maximum of the solar cycle and CIR driven storms are more common during the minimum of the solar cycle.

Intense solar flares release very-high-energy particles that can cause radiation poisoning to humans (and mammals in general) in the same way as low-energy radiation from nuclear blasts.
Earth's atmosphere and magnetosphere allow adequate protection at ground level, but astronauts in space are subject to potentially lethal doses of radiation. The penetration of high-energy particles into living cells can cause chromosome damage, cancer, and a host of other health problems. Large doses can be fatal immediately.

Lawn Bowls - Preparations for SUKMA 2012.

The Perlis' Lawn Bowls Association and the Perlis' Sports Council (MSN) held a meeting with the athletes and their parents today, in their preparations for this year's SUKMA (Sukan Malaysia) to be held in Kuantan, Pahang in June or July. The exact dates (the meet) have yet to be finalised.
The director of Perlis's MSN, Mr. Azhari and his deputy, Mr. Zaidi were present, together with the lawn bowls chief coach - Mr. Kamis. All 12 athletes, except Nurul Auni (in Kuala Lumpur having a national assignment), and their parents attended the meeting.

I guess everybody's still in bed - we have four days of holiday. Schools are closed for a week. That's Malaysia...

Finland's Education System - The Best in The World.

FINLAND have the Best Education System in the world.
Since it implemented huge education reforms 40 years ago, Finland's school system has consistently come at the top for the international rankings for education systems.

So how do they do it?
It's simple — by going against the evaluation-driven, centralized model that much of the Western world uses.

24 amazing facts about Finland's unorthodox education system:

1. Finnish children don't start school until they are 7 years old.

2. Finnish children rarely take exams or do homework until they are well into their teens.

3. The children are not measured at all for their first 6 years of their education.

4. There is only one mandatory standardized test in Finland, taken when they are 16 years old.

5. All children, clever or not, are taught in the same classrooms. No segregation.

6. They don't wear uniforms to school.

7. 30% of the the children receive extra help during their first 9 years of school.

8. 66% of students go to college.

My wife had a dinner reception at Kangar's Putra Palace Hotel tonight, and I took the kids to have dinner at the hotel's Bendang coffee house...
The new look Putra Palace Hotel is something to look into.
The new manager is Mrs Azarishah Ahmad, my former student - way back in the 80's. She's small size, but very hardworking. Met her at the hotel lobby, had a chat with her but I could see she was busy... Mr. Kamil, the sales executive, came to greet us...
The new management is presently doing some promotions with a variety of discounts given to customers. The food at the coffee house is presently given a 10% discount until the end of February 2012. There are also special menus at the Santai Cafe outlet with food and drinks as low as RM6.50 per order.

Patrice EVRA - you'll be more Offended in MALAYSIA...

I wanted to write about the Suarez-Evra issue long time ago, but I was too busy to do so... Today, I can find the time..
We all know that Luis Suarez of Liverpool FC was slapped an 8-match ban by the FA for calling (using a word) Patrice Evra that was considered racist. So, I was told... Is that it?
Oh dear..., I think Patrice Evra can never stay in Malaysia.... Why?

1. In Malaysia, we are of so many races and backgrounds, and yet, we live in harmony... We call our friends or enemies (if you have any) by so many names - Black, Yellow, Blue, Pak Hitam (Uncle Black), Putih (White), Mat Salleh (white people), Mat Black (black man), Mak Nyah (gay), Bohsia (oversocial girl), Bohjan (oversocial man), Sepet (small eye people), Negro (Niger), Hindu, Benggali (Sikh), Cina (Chinese), Cino (Chinaman), Malai kui (Malay guy), Orang Asli (aborigines), Orang Bukit (hill people), Orang Laut (fisherman), Orang Utan (forest people), Orang Minyak (oilman)..., my god - I can't list everything...
The point is - nobody gets "banned" or taken to court for calling names...

2. Even in our culture, we call names to our family members. If my uncle is fair-skinned, I call him "Pak Teh" (uncle White). If another uncle is black-skinned, I call him "Pak Tam" or "Pak Hitam" (uncle Black). My uncle never sues me in court for calling him Black...
There was once a black-skin teacher named Ahmad. Everybody called him Mat Black, even the students. He was then promoted to Assistant Director of the Education Department - and we still called him Mat Black. He has retired now and we still call him uncle Mat Black ..
The name Black is synonym to all dark-skinned Malaysians. We have a good and famous dark-skin Malay singer self-called himself "BLACK". Actually, most of us don't even know his real name... Serious !! If he goes on stage, he is being introduced as - BLACK. He never sues people for calling him Black...

3. We use names to get closer to our friends. I think, you footballers in EPL, don't like to make friends.. We call our friends or our opponents in games by calling names that can be easily used or easily referred to. For example - during a soccer match, we will instruct our team mates to guard an opponent who is black-skinned, by telling loudly on the field "Jaga-jaga Negro tu !!!" (Be careful of that Negro!!) or "Jaga Pak Hitam tu !!" (Watch for that Black player!!)
Now, if Evra is the player meant here, I think the whole Malaysian team will be banned 8 games (each player)!!! It's a chronic law you have there in EPL... I must tell Ramli to think carefully before joining ManU.

4. The issue here is actually more to politics on and off the field. You are not being professional.. It's the ManU-Liverpool crisis that is. Luis Suarez was made the scapegoat.. Pity him, pity Liverpool. And.. Evra - you'll have to face the Liverpool fans for what you've done. Pity you too....

Looking forward to the Liverpool-ManU 4th round FA Cup game on the 28th of January.

31-year-old "Sir Steven Gerrard" signed a new deal with Liverpool FC yesterday, that will make him stay with Liverpool FC for life, even after his playing days are over.
Gerrard has made 566 appearance since making his debut for Liverpool in November 1998. He was born for Liverpool FC by the way he shows his passion to the club.

"Sending Off" SMK Derma's Senior Assistant - Students' Affairs (PK HEM).

It's another "promotion" affair in SMK Derma. This time, it's Mr. Zulkifli Majid, SMK Derma's Senior Assistant for Students' affairs @ the PK Hem.
It was an emotional one, because Mr. Zulkifli Majid have been teaching in Derma for the past 25 years - from a fresh graduate until the Senior Assistant post. He is being promoted to become the Assistant Principal of SMK Tengku Budriah in Arau.

I flipped through my "visitors to my Blog" yesterday and the 156th country (the latest) to visit my Blog was from Ecuador. Thanks buddy... Hope you've enjoyed the stuff I've written recently..
Let's learn something about the country of ECUADOR:

GEOGRAPHY:
Ecuador, about equal in area to Nevada, is in the northwest part of South America fronting on the Pacific. To the north is Colombia and to the east and south is Peru. Two high and parallel ranges of the Andes, traversing the country from north to south, are topped by tall volcanic peaks. The highest is Chimborazo at 20,577 ft (6,272 m). The Galápagos Islands (or Colón Archipelago: 3,029 sq mi; 7,845 sq km), in the Pacific Ocean about 600 mi (966 km) west of the South American mainland, became part of Ecuador in 1832.

HISTORY:

The tribes in the northern highlands of Ecuador formed the Kingdom of Quito around 1000. It was absorbed, by conquest and marriage, into the Inca Empire. Spanish conquistador Francisco Pizarro conquered the land in 1532, and throughout the 17th century a Spanish colony thrived by exploitation of the Indians. The first revolt against Spain occurred in 1809. In 1819, Ecuador joined Venezuela, Colombia, and Panama in a confederacy known as Greater Colombia.
When Greater Colombia collapsed in 1830, Ecuador became independent. Revolts and dictatorships followed; it had 48 presidents during the first 131 years of the republic. Conservatives ruled until the revolution of 1895 ushered in nearly a half century of Radical Liberal rule, during which the church was disestablished and freedom of worship, speech, and press was introduced. Although it was under military rule in the 1970s, the country did not experience the violence and repression characteristic of other Latin American military regimes. Its last 30 years of democracy, however, have been largely ineffectual because of a weak executive branch and a strong, fractious Congress.
Peru invaded Ecuador in 1941 and seized a large tract of Ecuadoran territory in the disputed Amazon region. In 1981 and 1995 war broke out again. In May 1999, Ecuador and Peru signed a treaty ending the nearly 60-year border dispute.

A surprise visitor visited my Blog recently - from the AMERICAN SAMOA...
Let's learn something about this country.

American Samoa is an unincorporated territory of the United States located in the South Pacific Ocean, southeast of the sovereign state of Samoa (formerly known as Western Samoa). The main (largest and most populous) island is Tutuila, with the Manuʻa Islands, Rose Atoll, and Swains Island also included in the territory.
American Samoa is part of the Samoan Islands chain, located west of the Cook Islands, north of Tonga, and some 300 miles (500 km) south of Tokelau. To the west are the islands of the Wallis and Futuna group. The 2010 census showed a total population of 55,519 people. The total land area is 76.1 square miles (197.1 km²), slightly more than Washington D.C. American Samoa is the southernmost territory of the United States.

People born in American Samoa — including those born on Swains Island — are American nationals, but are not American citizens unless one of their parents is a U.S. citizen. As U.S. nationals, American Samoans may not vote in U.S. presidential elections. However, American Samoans are entitled to free and unrestricted entry into the United States.
Samoans are entitled to elect one non-voting delegate to the United States House of Representatives. Their delegate since 1989 has been Democrat Eni Fa'aua'a Hunkin Faleomavaega, Jr. They also send delegates to the Democratic and Republican National Conventions.

American Samoa, located within the geographical region of Oceania, is one of only two possessions of the United States in the Southern Hemisphere, the other being Jarvis Island. Its total land area is 76.1 square miles (197.1 km²) – consisting of five rugged, volcanic islands and two coral atolls. The five volcanic islands are: Tutuila, Aunu'u, Ofu, Olosega, Tau. The coral atolls are: Swains, and Rose Atoll. Of the seven islands, Rose Atoll is an uninhabited Marine National Monument.
Due to its positioning in the South Pacific Ocean, it is frequently hit by tropical cyclones between November and April. Rose Atoll is the easternmost point of the territory. American Samoa is the southernmost part of the United States. American Samoa is home to the National Park of American Samoa.
According to the World Christian Database, the population of American Samoa is 98.3% Christian, 0.7% agnostic, 0.3% Chinese Universalist, 0.3% Buddhist and 0.3% Baha'i.

Azizah Promoted to Principal..

Mrs. Azizah Shaari, the Senior Teacher for Science and Mathematics of SMK Derma, have been promoted to the post of the Principal of SMK Syed Ahmad, in Tambun Tulang, Perlis.
She have been teaching in SMK Derma for the past 20 years.
A sending off ceremony was done this morning in SMK Derma and a welcome ceremony was done in her new school thereafter.
