Confession time – Have you ever worked incredibly hard on a product, put your whole heart and soul into it, and known it had the power to help thousands of people? Then have NO ONE buy it?

…or have stories like that kept you from creating and offering your first product to the world?

This is a terrifying place to be.

You’ve put so much energy into laying the foundation of your business and planning everything perfectly, but you know that you don’t have a real business until you’re actually selling something.

What you need is a way to read the minds of your perfect customers.

Well, I can’t show you how to read their minds, but I know someone who will teach you the next best thing.

Join me and my good friend Clay Collins on Wednesday January 11th for this free webinar, when we’ll teach you:

How to get paid to figure out what kind of product or program to sell online.

How to create a movement that naturally births a product that everyone wants to buy.

How to turn people’s questions, comments, frustrations, and feedback into solid income.

How to determine whether a future product will produce the money you need and deserve.

(Even If You Haven’t Started An Online Business, Don’t Have The Slightest Clue What Your Niche Is, Or What You Want To Sell Online)

We look forward to helping you make 2012 your greatest year ever.

So why aren’t more people doing it?

People are talking about it. Starting blogs about it. Writing books and holding conferences about it.

It’s become the thing to do. That’s wonderful. It’s exactly what the world needs.

So why aren’t more people doing it? Why are so many all talk and no action?

Your mission is clear

When you read a post or book or meet someone inspirational you feel their excitement. The energy pouring out from them is magnetic and beautiful. You want it. You want to have that effect on others.

From that moment you know what you stand for. Your core beliefs have finally been targeted and you know how YOU can add to this world in a way that truly matters.

You plot actions. Ideas flow by the hour. You see something while driving that inspires a new post. You outline it in your head. More people and experiences suddenly start to come into your life. It’s like you’re attracting everything you need.

Your mission is clear.

And then…

You see the consequences of what must be done. You must give yourself fully or not at all. You must risk losing friends, followers, and customers.

The fear settles in. It’s starts to break your heart. It was supposed to be easier than this, at least at the beginning.

You decide to carry on anyway. You’ve been so inspired. You’ve never felt more alive in anything you’ve worked on in your life. Nothing has ever felt this right.

But the fear of the consequences is still there.

You continue to create, but it looks nothing like a movement. No one sees you standing up for anything. You are just noise.

You carry on. You do the work because, above all else, you know you must show up. You must do the work.

With every piece you create and every post you write, you’re filled with a sense of accomplishment because you stuck to it. You did the work.

But the joy is short lived because you know you’ve only created more noise. No one cares about more noise. No one cares about your work because you haven’t done YOUR work.

You ran from YOUR work when you discovered the truth in it. When you realized the sacrifice involved. When you saw how hard it was. When it began to break your heart.

The heartbreak

No one wakes up realizing they’re meant to make a stand for something without also realizing they have a lot to change about themselves.

No one is going to start a movement without first LIVING that movement. This requires change.

Change is always necessary.

That realization is heartbreaking. There is no halfway. There are no office hours in a movement. There is no standing up only until your feet hurt. There is no easy button.

As artists, entrepreneurs, Christians, leaders, and everyday people of the world, none of us want to be considered as noise. No matter what you do, you want it to matter. You want to know that it/you matters.

We want to stand out from the noise so badly, but we’re terrified of what that really means. We’re terrified because we’re comfortable. We’ve lived for 25, 32, 57, or whatever years, and we have a set way of living our life. Even if it has left us thirsting for something greater. It’s how we do things. It’s comfortable. Change is not comfortable.

Standing up for what you believe in requires change. Movements require tremendous change. HE requires change. Changing the lives of others means first changing your life. Changing out in the open for the whole world to see. Change that doesn’t take the weekends off.

Change means there’s no going back to how it was before.

Change is heartbreaking.

Where to find your endless joy

Your endless joy is in YOUR work. The work that excites you. The work that lights up every fiber of your being. That forces you to question yourself. That terrifies you. That breaks your heart.

Stop fighting what you KNOW you’re meant to do and what that voice, that won’t shut up, is telling you you’ve been put here to do, and you’ll find endless joy. YOUR endless joy.

The Point

None of this is meant to depress you, although it might. After all, you’re only human. You’ve been trained since birth to see the negatives much clearer than the positives.

This is meant to show you the truth of what you’re doing. So you’ll no longer waste more of your time and the others’ time. So you will choose what you are: the movement or the debris.

It’s meant to open your eyes to the beauty, glory, and endless joy waiting for you behind your heartbreak.

Giving your whole self to what you believe is the hardest thing in life you can do. The process is never ending. So are the rewards.

Are you seeking your rewards?

So what’s it going to be: Are you The Movement or The Debris?

Have you ever worked with a client or someone you never should’ve worked with in the first place?

It’s almost imposible to get anything positive out of the situation. For either of you.

On a good day you’re left feeling mentally & emotionally drained.

It’s ridiculous! Why do we do it? Why do we insist on working with the people we know are not a right fit for our styles and beliefs.

I started my own business because I chose to not deal with the people I didn’t like anymore. I started my own business because, frankly, I want to do whatever I want.

That means working:

whenever I choose

where ever I choose

with only the people that leave me feeling jazzed, inspired, and empowered.

I’m pretty sure those are your reasons too. So why do anything that challenges those?

There’s a reason I’m writing this post now. This morning I fully refunded and parted ways with a client . A client I should’ve never worked with in the first place. I knew we weren’t a good fit for each other from the very start, but I ignored my intuition.

Why?

Because despite the reasons listed above, my desire to help is always stronger.

Many times that desire blinds me to the obvious, and I bet it does the same for you. Actually, it doesn’t blind me at all. I can almost always see the red flashing lights screaming NO! NO! NO! This will never work for either of you!, and I ingnored those lights while interviewing this particular client.

But it hurts to say no, right? You feel guilty turning anyone away. It doesn’t feel like helping. It feels like being an ass. People don’t like asses.

How to be an ass people like

Saying no might be the most important skill you can learn in business. Saying no to the clients you know aren’t right for you makes you stronger. Maybe not so much physically, but mentally and spiritually. You’re in the business of helping people because you care about them as much as you care about yourself, and they need you on your A-game.

Say no. Even if it means you feel like an ass for a day. Working with the wrong people will only suck the desire and inspiration from you. That doesn’t help you or ANY of your clients, present and future.

Feeling like as ass for a day is the most helpful thing you can do for the person who’s completely wrong for you.

So be an ass and live to save the world another day.

It’s BYOB (Bring Your Own Barrel) though.)

I saw a guy the other day wearing a T-shirt that said “My life Is Perfect” on the front.

He had one leg, was in a wheel chair, had the craziest beard I’ve ever seen, and he looked liked he hadn’t showered in a while. He was also happy, and was surrounded with beautiful women. Thank you south Florida.

Most people would see him and immediately feel sorry for him. They would think those sexy women were only talking to him out of pity.

I heard their conversation. Trust me, there was no pity there.

What if, despite what most would consider a handicapped life, his life really is perfect. What if he knew the secrets you don’t.

Maybe, just maybe, he was able to answer these 7 questions to transform his life to one of perfection.

Answer these questions for yourself, and see what happens.

The 7 Questions You Shouldn’t Ask If You’re Life Is Already Perfect

1. Seriously, why are you doing this?

Really. What’s the real reason you’ve decided to be a coach, copywriter, project manager, social media expert, agent of change, or whatever? It can’t just be for money. Everyone wants to make more money (no matter what they say). Think beyond the monetary gains.

Do have a need to be loved by many or to be acknowledged as the best?

Do you need to feel like you’re constantly being challenged?

Are you a true “do gooder” (As in – you expect nothing in return)?

Do you just want to see if you can pull it off?

We’re looking for the real reason why you chose this path. It’s easy to forget why you started this journey (whatever it is for you), and quickly get lost.

For solopreneurs, getting lost means creating things simply for the sake of creating something that will hopefully make money (any money). Creating content, courses, and partnerships that don’t fall in line with the heart of why you started your business.

Answering this question of why will also help you with that whole epic content thing everyones’s always talking about.

2. Can you be wrong?

There’s something prolific about being wrong. Once you get past feeling stupid and embarrassed, and once you stop blaming everyone and everything else for your epic failure… allowing yourself to be wrong can (and will, most of the time) teach you more than those times you nail it.

The trick is allowing yourself to be okay with it. Most people aren’t. Most people blame anything, but themselves. Most people hide their uglies. Most people do not grow to their full potential either. Go figure.

Accept failure. Look forward to it.

Expect success and look forward to it even more, but do not fear failure. Do not fear the lessons learned from your failures.

3. Can you act like 4 year old?

My youngest daughter, Stella, is 4 years old. She’s amazing. She’s stunningly cute. She also doesn’t pay attention to a word I say. She dances to her own tune (literally). She’s knows exactly what she wants and YOUR opinion doesn’t matter. She’s fiercely loyal to her best friend (her cousin Lucy). She’s wicked smart. She knows how to use her talents to manipulate people and situations to get her way. She leaps first, then thinks, then adjusts. Repeatedly.

Stella is loved by everyone who meets her.

Stella is 4 years old. She is stubborn. She frustrates the crap of me. She surprises me every day. I love her and Gina more than anything you could possibly imagine. Seriously, try and think of something better for me. It won’t be enough.

Stella will achieve amazing things. World changing things.

This isn’t just another father talking up his kid out of love. Stella will create greatness because of who she is.

Can you act like a 4 year old?

4. Can you “unplug” from your work, passion, goal, or whatever it is to you?

Of course not. At least not completely. It’s what you do. It consumes you. You think about it when you’re eating. You think about it when you’re with “them”. It’s in your mind when you’re praying to Him. It’s all around you. It is you.

That’s okay.

I’m not talking about unplugging in the sense of completely shutting down (Besides, we all know you’ll never ditch your iPhone). There will never be a total ability to untether.

Unplug from your normal day to day routine. Even solopreneurs who can work whenever and where ever they want still mostly have the same routine.

leave town with nothing but your phone or iPad (For the truly daring go with just pen and paper. Remember those?)

Take a week and focus on someone else. Help them, observe them, learn from them.

Take a day or two or five to revisit question #1

Do something that your friends, lover, or family would think is completely stupid (Not idiotic, folks. Just stupid.)

The point is this:

You’re not going to completely stop thinking about your work. We’ve already covered that.

You WILL be thinking about it in a different environment. A new set of emotions. New circumstances that force you to change and adapt.

The inspiration that will follow will amaze you.

This isn’t to give you more ideas to think about, although that will most likely happen. The point is to make you better at YOUR thing. The work you do. The content you create. The way you serve your people.

5. Can you LOVE everything you put out into the world?

Every piece of content. Every post. Every video. Every comment. Every reply to every email. Every lunch conversation. Every question, reaction, idea, emotion, embrace. Everything.

Are you capable of loving everything you do.? Do you completely and unequivocally love YOU? (Yes, I just went there.)

6. Can you let go of the wheel?

You have a vision of what you want to achieve. You know what your success looks like. You know what your steps will probably look like. At the very least, you know what steps you’d like to take. You’ve seen that path work for so many that you admire and learn from. You want to be that. You want to feel that. You’ve imagined it so many times.

Can you accept another path to the same destination?

We focus too much on what we think is the best path for us that we close our eyes to the many opened doors right in front of us.

Dismiss nothing. Be curious about everything.

Success comes in many forms and from the most unlikely sources. Just ask any of those people you admire so much.

7. Are you a servant?

I think this is the most important question in this post.

There is so much I could say about this, but one of my favorite quotes of all time sums it up best.

It’s been used by countless others. It’s simple to understand, yet hard to live. Master it, and your vision of success won’t begin to compare to what you really achieve.

You can have everything in life you want, if you will just help other people get what they want. -Zig Ziglar

What are your thoughts on these questions? Do you have any you’d like to add? Let’s take this even farther in the comments.

Ready?… Go!
