Final Fantasy Dissidia: Tidus

Tidus is one of the heroes fighting for the side of Cosmos in Dissidia Final Fantasy. A light-hearted, cheerful youth, he follows his father's footsteps as an ace blitzball player for the Zanarkand Abes. In battle, he is an agile fighter who easily dodges opponent's attacks as he performs his own. While he appears to be cheerful and lighthearted to his allies Firion, Cecil, and Cloud, Tidus' weak point is his emotions concerning Jecht - he seeks to fight and defeat Jecht to prove himself to him and settle his hatred for him.

While a lot of my friends have done crossplays, I still would have not guessed, at first glance, that this was a girl!

Twinklee on dA makes an absolutely amazing Dissidia Tidus, and Tsubaki-chan does a fantastic job capturing this shot!

The location is spectacular for the character. The pose is great - the blitz ball thrown in the air like that makes for a much more dynamic shot, where Tidus holding the ball would be far less interesting. The editing makes the whole shot more vibrant without losing focus.

Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children: Yuffie Kisaragi

Yuffie Kisaragi is a secret playable character in Final Fantasy VII. She is a Ninja and a Thief, wielding a large shuriken. As a rebellious and cocky tomboy, Yuffie desires to restore her homeland Wutai to the glorious nation it was before being conquered by Shinra. Despite her sometimes obnoxious personality, she is friendly, helpful, and willingly helps the party in their battles.

The first time I played Final Fantasy VII and I happened to come across Yuffie, I fell in love. She reminded me so much of me way back then (and her birthday was 2 days before mine, which made it that much cooler!), so naturally when I found this amazing Yuffie cosplay, I HAD to feature it!

This photo displays a much calmer Yuffie than I'm sure the rest of us are used to, but it's a beautiful shot and shows a different side to the Yuffie we all know and love. Konoe-Lifestream over on dA brings us this great photo and her photographer, known only as Envy, is as much responsible.

A more playful shot that shows off the work done on the front of the cosplay.

Anybody else notice how eerily similar Konoe-Lifestream is to Yuffie? It's almost scary!

And one last shot, this time of Zarsu on dA - featured because I love the fact that she has the phone!

Ah, the SoCal Cosplay Picnic, 2010, at Craig National Park.

This has to have been one of my favorite cosplay picnics to date. The weather was great as was the location and everything was so well-organized. There were so many locations to take pictures and so many great costumes to take pictures of!

I'm splitting these pictures into multiple posts just to make it easier on me (so I don't go blind from code!) and easier on your computers (I'm going to be hiding the pictures and you can just click the link to bring them up).

This post will be assorted pictures that I took. If I didn't take more than a few pictures of you, it's probably going to be here or in the next post! :D

SoCal Cosplay Picnic 2010 (Part 1 - Asst. Pictures 1-30)

Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann: Yoko Littner

Yoko Littner (ヨーコ・リットナー, Yōko Rittonā?), the series' lead female character, is a young woman from the village of Littner. She has considerable combat experience even before her chance meeting with Kamina and Simon. In Episode 1 a Gunmen crashes through the roof of Giha village and prepares to attack the populace when Yoko, who has been tracking the Gunmen, rappels down a cliff whilst firing her electromagnetic rifle. Her solo attack disables the Gunmen, giving Kamina and the villagers time to seek safety. Kamina, however, chooses instead to make advances at Yoko and initially diminishes her combat qualifications on the grounds of being a woman, yet acknowledges "that lady's spunk".

This is a beautiful shot, taken by the talented jenjenplum! While it doesn't show off too much of the costume, you can still see a bit of the construction on the gun... This great cosplay was brought to us by Malindachan.

Malindachan, most commonly known for her Yu-Gi-Oh! cosplays (which is what I was told to expect when I ventured to her page upon the suggestion of a closer friend), also has many other fantastic cosplays, this one being one of them! I had initially planned on using a more well-known cosplay but this one stood out to me.

Here's another great picture that shows off a little bit more construction on the outfit and the gun.

Metroid Prime 3: Corruption: Samus Aran

Samus Aran (サムス・アラン?) is a fictional character and the protagonist of the Metroid video game series. Introduced in the 1986 video game Metroid, Samus is a female bounty hunter usually fitted with an armor suit with weapons that include beams and missiles. Throughout the series, she executes missions given to her by the Galactic Federation while hunting the antagonistic Space Pirates and their leader, Ridley, along with the energy-draining alien parasites called Metroids. Orphaned at a young age, Samus was brought up by the Chozo alien race, which trained her as a warrior. The Chozo also gave her the Power Suit, which features the ability to collapse Samus into a sphere to roll through tight areas such as tunnels.

This cosplayer was suggested by my lovely friend Edalyne over Facebook. She and her boyfriend are HUGE Metroid fans (though I think he is more than she is) and this is one of their favorite cosplayers.

Samus is cosplayed by the lovely yukilefay on Cosplay.com. You can also find her on her site. This armor is absolutely fantastic. It looks so well constructed and this picture, while not as theatrical as some other cosplays I've featured, shows off the armor and construction beautifully!

This picture was edited nicely and I love the colors of the background in relation to Samus.

This photo is much softer but it's a nice contrast to the previous pictures.

Darkstalkers: Morrigan

Morrigan is a succubus who is very vain and lives for little more than the excitement of battle. She appears as a beautiful woman with long, light green hair, large breasts and bat-like wings on her back and the sides of her head. Morrigan can reshape these wings into spikes and blades when attacking her enemies, as well as using them to shield herself from enemy attacks. Her wings can also separate from her, and form into a cloud of bats. She uses a variety of magical attacks as well.

I freaking LOVE Morrigan. She is easily my favorite Darkstalkers character, with Felicia at a close second.

This photo is such a perfect representation of Morrigan as a character. Sexy, but a hardcore badass. The wings also look amazing when placed like that - everything about this pose was well thought-out!

This is easily one of the best Morrigan cosplays I've ever seen - thanks for posting this photo, Mrs. Hyde!

Magic Knight Rayearth: Umi

Umi Ryuuzaki (龍咲海 Ryūzaki Umi) is a fictional character from the anime/manga series Magic Knight Rayearth (created by Clamp). She is one of the three protagonists of the series, and represents the element of Water. Umi is an elegant, yet a bit of a short-tempered girl with flowing long blue hair. She's voiced by Konami Yoshida in the Japanese version of the anime and Wendee Lee in the English version.

This cosplay photo is just... captivating! While you can't see many details on the dress, the setting is great for the character and the details that you can see are so beautifully done - I couldn't imagine a nicer set up for this photo!

ycysusan brings us this amazing Umi with the help of her photographer only known as Mihn. Check out the rest of her cosplays - they're gorgeous!

DBZ: Trunks/Goten

Today's cosplay suggestion is from the wonderful and beautiful Edalyne!

Goten is the second child of Chi Chi and Goku. Goten was concieved shortly before the Cell Game. He was able to become a Super Saiyan when he was only 6, which made Gohan a little angry and jealous. His best friend is Trunks, probably because they are the only ones who can play together and not hurt each other. When Goten is older he becomes more worried about dates than fights.

Trunks is the first child of Vegeta and Bulma. Trunks is a little stronger than Goten, but he's also older. Vegeta was furious that Trunks was able to become a Super Saiyan so easily.

Gotenks is Goten and Trunks when they fuse. Gotenks has an attitude like he could take on anyone of any size. Gotenks has great strength and almost defeated Buu, but the fusion wore off because he wanted the fight to be cool.

This cosplay is absolutely FANTASTIC and is the product of a pair of twins from Canada: Glay and QuantumDestiny !

These girls make the boys look bad with their amazing dbz cosplays - and all their others for that matter!

Twilight Princess: Midna (Spoilers!)

Midna (ミドナ, Midona?) is a member of the Twili, a fictional race of magic-wielders in the 2006 video game The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. Throughout most of the game, she is in her diminutive, imp-like form and wears magical headgear. She is a main character of Twilight Princess along with The Legend of Zelda series mainstays Link, Princess Zelda, and Ganon.

Now I'm sure we're all familiar with the almost legendary imp-form Midna but this is easily one of my favorite human form Midnas to date!

This cosplay comes direct from Cosplay.com member MisatoNpenpen (also IchigoKitty on dA.

The details are absolutely perfect and I don't think I've seen such a great body makeup job in a long time. Great job, keep them coming!

And just for fun, have a Midna/Link picture that I think shows a different side to Midna.

Hellsing: Seras Victoria

Seras Victoria is one of the main characters in the manga, anime and OVA Hellsing. In the anime, she acted as the point of view character for the audience. Seras is a Draculina, a term used to refer to the female members of the Dracula bloodline, since she has been turned into a vampire by Alucard. The term is not historically accurate since no female vampire turned by Dracula was ever referred to by this term in Stoker's book and may have been created specifically for Hellsing, but Seras is called this multiple times over the course of the story.

Ranma2020 makes such a cute Seras and Franky-chan did a great job capturing this shot so cleverly entitled "Oops, I did it again." The background is great and while some cosplay photographers argue that turning the camera for pictures is obnoxious and unnecessary I think it fits the photo perfectly.

Have another photo from Ranma2020 and Franky-chan which shows off the awesome craftsmanship of the giant gun (featured below)!

Trinity Blood: Esther

Born as the legitimate granddaughter of the queen of Albion, Esther was brought to Istvan shortly after her birth in order to save her from assassins. She is the daughter of the late Prince Gilbert who was assassinated just after she was born. She was saved by Edward White, under the alias Edward Blanchett. He took her to an orphanage in Istvan where she was raised to be a nun by Bishop Laura Vitez, who loved Esther like her own daughter.

This Esther cosplay is simply fantastic. All the work that went into the costume is astonishing and the picture itself sets a very solemn mood. madcrecha did a great job capturing Astarohime's amazing Esther. The hardest part was picking the best photo because Astarohime gave us so many pictures to work with!

This picture shows off a lot of the finer details absolutely fantastically. To quote the dA page...

* Astarohime drew the pattern herself.
* All the gems are swarovski crystals.
* There are more than 20,000 pearls on the dress.
* The crowns and flowers on the dress are actually metal.
* The costume was made in 2 months!

Hats off to you, Astarohime and madcrecha - you work well together and the result is breathtaking!

Assassin's Creed: Altaïr

Assassin's Creed... Talk about an amazing example of a video game! Everything from the story to the various game mechanics... It's fantastic!

Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad (الطائر ابن لا أحد in Arabic) (born 1165) was an Assassin during the time of the Third Crusade and later Grand Master of the Assassin’s Order. An ancestor to both Ezio Auditore da Firenze and Desmond Miles, Altaïr was raised to be an Assassin from birth, obtaining the rank of Master Assassin by his twenty–fifth year. However, following his failure to obtain the Apple from Robert de Sable in 1191, and subsequently allowing Robert’s Knights Templar to attack the city of Masyaf, head quarters to the Order of Assassins, he was demoted to the rank of novice and sent on a quest for redemption.

This photo is absolutely beautiful. The costume is magnificently detailed (everything from the belts to the bags to the arm guards) and the post is great for the character. The background is one you could expect to see in-game and everything about this just SCREAMS fantastic. CoughffinKnail makes an absolutely amazing Altaïr and Johnsonsan captures the character beautifully (and she received a DD on dA for it!). Easily the best Altaïr I've seen!

D.Gray-Man: Lavi

Ah, Lavi, everybody's favorite giant hammer swinging exorcist! :D Lavi is a cheerful red-haired Exorcist of mixed race, who aims to become a Bookman and is working along the Black Order just to be close to the events that must be seen. He has an incredible memory: he is able to memorize every single aspect of something he's seen. He is 18 years old, and normally uses his left eye while the right eye is covered by an eye-patch (no one knows what his right eye looks like, because he hasn't revealed it yet).

RaiLover43's picture captures Lavi's serious side very well. While a little over-edited for my taste and lacking a background (the bright red stopsign in the background is killing me) it's a beautiful outfit and a great shot.

Air Gear: Simca

Simca is the leader of the Genesis group from Air Gear. She wants to gather all the Kings and their Regalia in order to conquer the Trophaeum Tower and acquire the Sky Regalia. She takes a great interest in Ikki who has practically idolized her after watching her ride AT through his neighborhood. Despite protests, she convinces Ikki to take the Storm Rider team Genesis under his leadership after Kogarasumaru's triumph over Behemoth, and her interactions with Ikki eventually draws the ire of the new Sleeping Forest team, led by Noyamano Ringo.

KashinoRei over on DeviantArt has such a great Simca cosplay - how could I not show it off? Her fantastic outfit paired with ABtheDiablo's beautiful photography makes for an flawless picture, full of emotion and action.

FF Versus XIII: Noctis Lucis Caelum

Final Fantasy Versus XIII, like so many other Final Fantasy games, have very unique characters who have the best outfits to cosplay. Meet AmenoKitarou who obviously agrees with me! One of his pictures was featured in the showcase over on coscom but I think I like this photo more as it shows off the detail in his sword! Can you say wow?

AmenoKitarou is cosplaying Noctis Lucis Caelum, aka Noct, a prince and the last heir to the dynasty ruling over the last kingdom to control crystals. From his throne he defends his kingdoms from the barbarians who would conquer the city and reclaim the crystals by force! His family is also known to operate like a modern-day mafia...

Even though I haven't played FF Versus XIII yet (yay for unreleased games!) I can already tell you I love this character already and this cosplay has definitely swayed my decision to purchase the game. Thank you, AmenoKitarou for your amazing cosplay - the best I've seen!

What Is Cosplay?

From Wikipedia: Cosplay (コスプレ kosupure), short for "costume play" is a type of performance art in which participants don costumes and accessories to represent a specific character or idea.

But, of course you knew that if you found my blog.

I love cosplay, both participating in it and taking pictures of it! I act as the "personal photographer" between my group of friends when I'm not cosplaying and I love getting beautiful pictures that show off all of my friends' hard work.

My Personal Philosophy: Cosplay is an art - doing it well takes blood, sweat and tears and I do my best to portray all of that hard work in the most beautiful way I can.

This blog is for cosplayers to get recognition, it's for me to get recognition (as a photographer), it's a personal con blog... it's everything! Expect Daily Cosplay Photos, Cosplayer Features with mini-photoshoots, and Con Reviews/Photo Posts.
