Here’s why: Your prospects and customers are most likely visiting your website using all types of different computers, connection speeds and internet configuration settings…

What may look great to one visitor may not even appear for another! You could very easily have shelled out hundreds or even thousands of dollars to have a website created using the Flash technology, only to find out that some of your visitors will never see it! (Not to mention the loading times can cause your visitor to close your site, never to return again.)

Huge Mistake #2: The “Internet Catalog” Approach — You see this everywhere. Good, honest and hardworking businessmen and women get online to sell their products or services, and have a site created for them that contains a link to just about everything they offer on one page. Huge Mistake #5: Designing a Website with Zero Marketing Experience — Most web designers have no idea how to make money on the internet, with anything other than their design services. It’s not their fault – they simply have no or very little marketing and sales experience. After all, they’re just website designers…

However, having your website designed by someone with Zero internet marketing experience is like buying a street-car without an engine… it won’t go anywhere, and it’ll just waste your time and money.

I don’t know who the author of this article is. On a personal note I would like to add that a simple design is always better. There are many websites on the web today that try to  put absolutely everything on their front page. Most of the time there is only enough space for very little info and a whole lot of confusion. Front pages end up being nothing but a clatter of little snippets and not a whole lot of real info about the website. I think it is because they simply try to appeal to everyone, but end up appealing to no one. In personal experience I never stay longer than a few seconds on those websites and do not return to them either.

Please keep in mind that submitting to directories while being a good idea does not mean you should submit to all directories. Be very selective. There are directories that have good standing with search engines. This means that they are in fact SEO friendly and will list Your website with meta tags and descriptions, in a proper category, great description. But there are also a lot of useless directories that accept any link that is being submitted. So be choosy.
