LeBron James makes his only trip to Madison Square Garden tonight.

For the past two seasons there has been plenty of talk about LeBron bolting his hometown of Cleveland for the bright lights of New York City.

In his career, LeBron has been fantastic at the Garden. He’s averaged 30.1 points, 6.6 assists, 5.6 rebounds and 2.3 steals in ten trips to The Garden. In his last two trips to the Mecca of Basketball, he’s had a 52-10-9 game and a 50-10-8 game.

Needless to say, all eyes will be on LeBron tonight to see if he can put on another show on Broadway.

Also on tap for tonight, the undefeated Nuggets make their only trip to Miami to take on Dwyane Wade and the Heat; the Pistons look to continue their dominance over the Magic in Orlando; and the Suns try to outrun the Celtics in Boston.

Continue reading "LeBron Makes His Only Trip to The Garden Tonight"

WOW! I wish I can go to a game at the Palace at least once in my lifetime. I bet it was crazy in there tonight! This was one of the most exciting games I have seen in a while! With Rip and Tayshaun out, I thought the Pistons' chances for a win became increasingly slimmer. People are wondering if this game will give Dumars the push to trade Rip and Tay, but all the trading rumors are, well, rumors. The teamwork and determination from the start lasted through the whole 48 minutes. Everybody stepped it up tonight!

Congratulations to Austin Daye for his first points in his NBA career! What a good way to start off! Detroit's rookies are looking good out there; there's a lot of potential. Jonas Jerebko got to start in place of Tayshaun tonight and definitely took his role seriously. One question though, where is Dajuan Summers? Daye and Jerebko are getting a lot of attention, but have we forgotten about the other rookie the Pistons picked out? I'd like to see what Summers has in him.

Continue reading "Superman cant hold up against the Pistons"

Yes, I understand it's a little late to be talking about the start of the NBA season. If I wrote this after the season opener for the Pistons, it would be a very optimistic, happy blog about our win against the Grizzlies. After that, we've had two consecutive losses. It's definitely too early to tell what to expect from the Pistons, but I would like to put my two cents in.

Coach Kuester is doing an exponentially better job than Michael Curry did all of last season. It was clear that Detroit's defense needed some work and that's what Kuester has been emphasizing ever since he took charge. If we take a look at the games the Pistons lost, there's a common trend: a 3rd quarter slump. From the looks of it, the problem either lays in endurance issues or a simple lack of motivation. This isn't the coach's problem to fix. Quite frankly, there is not much a coach can do if they players aren't going to give 100%. The players need to step it up if they want to have a fighting chance to end this season with a decent record.

Continue reading "NBA season is back Are the Pistons going to be STUCK with a below 500 record"

It's basketball time again in the Bluff City as the Grizzlies opened the 2009-10 season by hosting the Detroit Pistons on Wednesday.

Grizzlies coach Lionel Hollins is not mincing words after the team's opening-night loss to the Pistons. Stressing defense and intensity over offense, Hollins called out Marc Gasol, who put up decent numbers, saying, "Well, he didn't block any shots. He didn't guard anybody." The man means business. In his mind, basketball is a team game. He is talking the talk and he expects his players to walk the walk. A few individuals played well tonight, but until they come together as a unit, their coach will not be impressed.

That kind of approach can be good for a young team to stress that the individual stats don't matter if the team doesn't win, or at least play together. The Pistons offered a daunting challenge to start the season for the Grizzlies, who played well during the preseason. Even if they aren't the Pistons of five years ago, they are still no pushover. The fact that the Grizzlies made plays and worked as a team during the preseason raises the possibility that tonight's setback is simply a case of opening-night jitters. However, this is still a young team with a few new pieces, so there is some learning to be done.

Continue reading "Pistons 96 Grizzlies 74"

Times are a changin in Detroit. Gone are Chauncey Billups and Rasheed Wallace. Enter in Ben Gordon and Charlie Villanueva. They draft three youngsters to go along with the newly acquired in hopes of quickly getting back to the conference finals.

15th overall pick Austin Daye did not dissappoint. He averaged 17 points and 8.8 rebounds. He made some threes, although he hit less than 30% of them. They got a good player at the 15th pick.

Speaking of pick for the value, second round and 35th overall DeJaun Summers was the leading scorer in summer league for the Pistons. 18points, 5 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal, and 1 block per game.

Another second round pick, Jonas Jerebko, averaged 12points, 6 rebounds and 2 steals. They may have found 2 players in the second round who will contribute this year. That is a rare feat.

Leading into this years Las Vegas Summer League, post-draft whimpers continued to echo through the alleys of Detroit. Poverty stricken Piston fans were still baffled by yet another night of head scratching picks.

Too thin, too short and too...who in gods name is this white kid from Sweden? Why didn't we move up to get Earl Clark? Why didn't we pick up Ty Lawson? Why won't Joe just listen to us fans for once?

Well, if this week's Summer League performances are any indication of how these three young forwards will play in the NBA, the future is bright and Joe D has pulled off the impossible. He found three diamonds in the rough of a weak draft.

It's obvious to this Detroit fan that the new threesome has gelled, proving that Mr. Dumars was a draft hero - not a zero.

Continue reading "Jerebko heats up like a hot Summers Daye"

I just found my first blog that I wrote and figured I'd post it up here since it's semi-relevant to the upcoming season and what has been going on with the many changes.

27-27

As an avid Detriot Pistons fan, I’m just about ready to jump off a cliff because I just can’t stand watching them play like this anymore. If you’re a Wizards fan, you understand my pain considering we’re both 27-27 right now. Actually, I’m not punching myself in the face every time the Pistons lose because I think they can pull it together. With a new coach, new roster, and a few rookies, it’s understandable that this team isn’t quite the team it used to be. There is great potential on this team and I don’t think their record is doing them any justice considering their roster of very skilled players.

Continue reading "My first blog on ESPNcom 2222009"

Get ready to see a lot of Kwame Brown next season. Believe it or not, there are some in the Detroit Pistons organization that feel Kwame can be a consistent starter in this league. Some believe if given a run at 30 plus minutes, Brown will become a walking double-double. Add the ability to block shots with the best of them and you have...Kwame Brown?

Obviously, the Pistons will make a move for another big man before the start of next season. However, barring a move that will bring in a true center that can rebound, block and run the floor more efficiently than Brown, you can expect to see all kinds of Kwame.

Continue reading "ALL KINDS OF KWAME"

The next month or so is going to be a very exciting time for Detroit Pistons fans. Between the draft, free agency and possible trade scenarios, we'll have our interest piqued and our hopes high. But my attention has shifted to the coaching staff.

After hearing the unfortunate post-season news that Puppet Boy (also known as Coach Curry) will be staying, my dreams of having a competent head coach next season faded. But there is hope yet.

It was reported today that the Detroit Piston Assistant Coach Dave Cowens would no longer be on the staff. Instead, he will become a member of Joe D's scouting team.

Is it me, or does this strike you as coincidental? Bill Laimbeer announces he's an NBA coaching free agent just days ago - and BAM - we have an opening.

Continue reading "Dave Cowens leaves staff coincidence"
