Hard to believe we’re already a week from our last Tunesday Review! Where does the time go? Anyway, here we go.

With Christmas drawing ever closer, I find that my taste in music has taken on a seasonal flavor. So, here’s what I’m listening to this week!

If you like Christmas music, you have to listen to this cd! With classics like “We Wish You a Merry Christmas”, and “Silent Night” you can’t go wrong. But, the original tracks on the record are entertaining and relatable, making them the perfect playlist for your holiday season! Oh, and did I mention…it’s RELIENT K! So you know it’s good ;D

Matt’s Top 5 Musicians

In my life, there have been many influential artists to come and go. But, there are a few that have stood the test of time, and have been deemed my top 5 favorite musicians! Here is the countdown!

#5 Pomplamoose-

Pomplamoose is a band from California comprised of two fantastic individuals known as Jack Conte and Nataly Dawn. They are by far two of the most creative and interesting people I’ve ever seen. Although I’ve not met them yet, I do hope to work with them in the future. Who knows? Maybe we’ll interview them soon! ;D Anyways, when you get the chance you should watch all of their Youtube videos because they are not only entertaining, but inspirational if you think of yourself as a multi-instrumentalist.

#4 Phil Keaggy-

Phil Keaggy is a long time inspiration in my life, as well as my father’s. If you’ve read the About section of our page, you know that my Dad’s musical history has had a huge impact on my life. When I was younger, Phil Keaggy was one of the only musicians my Dad listened to, and I would venture to say that Phil is my Dad’s biggest musical influence.

#3 Sky Eats Airplane-

I used to listen to a lot of “metal” and “hardcore” music in my high school days. But, nothing was as influencial in my musical technicality as SEA. Particularly once Travis Orbin became their drummer. Sadly, it wasn’t long after Orbin joined the group, that a falling out between certain members led to the band breaking up. Anywho…I once had the pleasure of taking a drum lesson from Travis at the Grog Shop in Cleveland Heights. As intimidating as it was, he was one of the coolest, not to mention modest guys I’ve ever met. We hung out back stage with the rest of the band, as well as the majority of the band Drop Dead Gorgeous. It was fantastic!

#2 Relient K-

What can I say about Relient K? Way too much, I think. I’ll probably have to do an entire entry devoted to this band. I guess I should start by saying that “Anatomy of the Tongue in Cheek” was all but glued in my portable CD player in Jr. High. I feel like I grew up with that band. Their music helped me out in many of the hard times I faced as a kid. As their style developed, my taste in music expanded. I remember when I was in my freshman biology class, I got in trouble for listening to “Mmhmm” while the teacher was talking. That was when I started to notice a little more edge to their music, which I liked. But, no matter what I was into, you could be sure that Relient K was always in the rotation. :D

#1 Jim Deulley

Just look at how awesome my Dad is! That ‘stache! Those sideburns! The crushed velvet sweater! He was the epitome of awesomeness!

My Dad is my hero. He has inspired me to do so many things, including play music. And, in a way, I owe him credit for everything I’ve ever accomplished. He’s supported me and pushed me when necessary. He has always believed in me, and to this day continues to support my artistic endeavors.

His album, “Don’t Lose Heart”, is the single most influential record in my life. It’s what got me into music in the first place. So, if you like anything I do on here, you may as well just thank Jim Deulley! :P I love you Dad!

Tunesday Review!

Tunesday Review is a short weekly feature which tells you what I’m listening to that week, why I am, and what I think about it. So, here it goes!

Today I’d like to talk about the latest release by Attack Cat, a short seasonal album titled “Starlight”.

I’m usually not one for Christmas albums, but this one’s a winner! The song selection is great, and the arrangements are original and entertaining. There is an array of different styles ranging from tribal like beats, to rock ballad riffs. From acoustic finger picking, to French vocal duets! The title track, being the only original song on the album, fits perfectly with the season and I believe has the makings to become a new Christmas Classic! Triforce Scarf!

Can I start by saying that I love The Legend of Zelda?

I grew up playing Ocarina of Time on the N64 with my grandpa (Yes, my grandpa. Papaw taught me to love video games. He’s a cool dude). I can remember my junior high and high school days, rocking Hot Topic tee shirts plastered with my favorite bands and video games. I had some pretty cool Zelda shirts. I have fortunately retired those shirts for the sake of looking my age and better fashion choices, but I thought it might be cool to come up with a way to be fashionable and nerdy at the same time. Thus, the Triforce Scarf was born. If you don’t know what the Triforce is, I suggest the following:
A. Play The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (Any game from the Zelda series will do, but OoT is my personal favorite.)
B. If you’re not the gaming type, just replace the term with the phrase “super cute triangle design” and pretend the nerdy stuff never happened. :)

This project took a day, and only cost about 8 bucks! Walmart carries super cheap plain scarves, and JoAnn’s had some fun shimmer fabric spray paint. Here’s what I did!

Supplies:
Scarf / Scissors or rotary cutter / Contact Paper / Scrap Cardboard / Fabric Paint (I used spray shimmer paint, but you could easily use a regular fabric paint and brush it on) / A Permanent Marker

Step 1: Cut out a stencil from scrap cardboard, and trace it onto your contact paper in whatever formation you want your design in. (My contact paper wasn’t wide enough on its own, so I cut a strip to make up for the width and added it to the side. Make sure you cut your contact paper a bit longer and wider than the scarf itself to protect the edges when you paint)

Step 2: Cut your design out of the contact paper. (I used a rotary cutter and a piece of styrofoam to protect my work surface. If your design is more detailed, I would suggest scissors… and a giant cup of coffee and a movie or something while you work. This can get time consuming.)

Step 3: Adhere your contact paper to the scarf. Make sure you press down nicely on the edges of the design and that you get out all the wrinkles so it goes on smoothly. (I had some help sticking mine on because it is so big! Thank you, Kim!)

Step 4: Take it outside and get to paintin’! Be careful around the edges of the design, and if you use the spray kind, make sure you do light, misty coats so it doesn’t pool under the contact paper (lesson learned the hard way!).

Step 5: Let it dry, and wear it proudly!

*Check your paint directions for any special washing instructions, and you are good to go.

I was a little over ambitious when I first thought of this project. I was going to make a unicorn scarf, but decided I didn’t want to spend hours and hours cutting thirty unicorns out, so I switched it up. Changing directions mid-projects is sometimes frustrating, but thankfully rewarding in this particular situation.

WARNING: This is a girly, mushy, lovey dovey post. Please skip if you hate that sorta thing. I promise they won't all be like this!! Haha!

This evening, the fam all watched a silly/cheesy/awesome Christmas movie together on Netflix.

It was about impossible Christmas wishes, and this sweet little girl trying to grant them for everyone. Our niece, Serenity, was over. She's six. She was really into the movie, so she grabbed a few blank sheets of paper and a pen and took them around to each of us and asked us to write down our wishes (adorable, right!).

She trotted off with everyone's wishes into the dining room to read them all, and told us that she was going to try her hardest to grant all of our wishes!

None of us knew what any of the others wished for, so when she came back into the living room and handed me a piece of folded paper and gave me a big silly grin, then walked to Matt and did the same, I was a little confused. I thought she was giving me my wish back! But, then I opened it.
Sweetest. Thing. Ever. It read,

"I wish Amber would kiss me. -Matt"

You know what makes this even more oh-my-goodness-I'm-gonna-throw-up-you-guys cute? Guess what I wrote as my wish (which is what Serenity handed to Matt)?

"I wish Matthew would give me a big hug!"

I am so happy that I have that man, y'all. He's pretty sweet. It's a wonderful thing to be with someone who makes you feel all fuzzy like you're in high school every now and then.

Thanks for listening to my mushy story. I had to tell someone!! Do any of you have cute cheesy stories where you feel like your life is more like a movie than real? I'd love to hear them! I'm secretly a hopeless romantic.

The Wheel of Charity!

During our interviews, one of the best parts of the filming is when we give our special guest the opportunity to spin “The Wheel of Charity”. This serves as a way to decide which charity Deulley Noted will donate to that month. That being said, I felt it was necessary to create this wheel from scratch, and let’s face it, buying a pre-made wheel would give me nothing to blog about ;)

So, here is what I came up with!

I used a 2x4 to make the stand, and attached it to the other half of the plywood board I used to make the wheel itself, which made for a good base.

I used a guitar pick as the object of resistance. Pretty clever, I thought!

Then I painted it in order to use color code to determine our winning charity.

And that’s about it! Not too difficult to make, and overall a very fun project. Be sure to watch our upcoming interviews and see The Wheel of Charity in action!

ONE MONTH RESOLUTION

Greetings Humans! Matt here ;P Every New Years, millions of people make “resolutions” to change something about their lives that they don’t like. My thought? Why wait until New Years to make that decision? Why not now? So, here it goes.

I’m 22 years old, 5'11", and... 186 lbs. So, I’ve decided to challenge myself publically to tone up

. I need you all to help me remain accountable for making healthy decisions in my diet, as well as my exercise routine (Or lack there of). I’m sure we’ve all got something about ourselves that we’d like to change for the better, so take this as an opportunity to challenge yourself to make the change. Here’s what I propose:

Myself- I’m giving myself one month to establish an adequate workout program, and will be taking photos of my progress to see if there is any change within 30 days.

You- Take a second to choose an area of your life that you’d like to improve upon. Then, for 30 days, take steps to change the situation.

At the end of the thirty day period, and all throughout the month, feel free to post details of your journey on here or our Facebook so we can all root for you and congratulate you on what we know will be a soaring success! ;D

I. LOVE. TAYLOR. SWIFT.

I can’t help it, ya’ll. She’s just so stinkin’ cute. And her music, though never (“ever ever ever” ha ha- see what I did there!?) really applies to my life, just makes me so happy. That photo is from when Matt took me to see her last year for the Speak Now Tour. We drove all the way to Columbus and back, on a work night, just for me. (Although, Matt likes her, too. Can’t hide it anymore, hunny. I’m sorry!) Any who, her new CD released today. You should buy it, because it’s really fantastic.

I’m gonna go dance around my room now, so I’ll catch later with some cool D.I.Y.s coming up this week. Have a wonderful day!

ADVENTURE

Hey guys! Welcome to the “Adventure” feature of our Blogdom! This is the place where dreams come true. Like Disneyland but with more Deulley...Deulleyland so to speak. Basically, this is where we talk about some of the more fantastical events of our lives in great detail. And, the first topic on our list: MOTORCYCLE ADVENTURE!

**WARNING* NERD ALERT**

I am fortunate to own a beautiful 2006 Honda VTX 1300S. It’s a Candy Dark Cherry colored cruiser with most of the amenities I could ask for. I have some ideas for a few additions to my arsenal...but that will have to come later.

My interest in bikes, like most things I’m interested in, all started with my Dad. He has been riding motorcycles now for 7 years, and has owned a couple of bikes himself. He sold his first bike, a 1986 Honda Magna 700cc, to pay for my braces when I was younger, and then went on to buy a 2006 Suzuki Boulevard C90 1500cc, which he still rides to this day.

My first bike was a 2006 Honda Shadow VLX 600. Four speeds and a low center of gravity made it the perfect starter motorcycle. But, as I grew more comfortable with the basics of riding, it quickly became apparent that size wasn’t large enough for me. I wanted to do some highway riding and long distance trips, so I needed something that could handle well in windy situations and have the torque I needed to maintain highway speeds. The decision was clear, I needed to get a bigger bike. Thus bringing us back to the VTX, which I have purposefully nicknamed “Red Five” (Luke Skywalker’s title in the Rogue Squadron).

Going back to the additions to Red Five. Here is a list of a few things I’d like to purchase in the near future.

Highway Bars/Engine Guards- These aesthetic additions to the framework of the motorcycle primarily function as a means of protecting both the rider and the motorcycle in the instance of a crash or drop.
Saddle bags- Very useful for both everyday riding and long distance trips.
A Windshield- Normally I don’t use a windshield. But, under certain circumstances, i.e. night riding, long trips, inclement weather, and when riding without a helmet, I would love to have one.
White-walled tires- Classy. Enough said.
White fender louvers- Small indentations in both fenders that serve as accents to the aesthetics of the motorcycle, especially the white-walled tires.

So there you have it. Adventure can be found anywhere. It’s more of a perspective actually. It’s about how you look at life. My suggestion? Choose to be adventurous. Go outside of your comfort zone, and you’ll be surprised how fulfilling your life can be! Thanks for stopping by!

MUSIC

Alright Kiddos! Here is my most bestest section of our Blogiverse. For those of you that know me, you know that music is a huge part of my life. I’ve been writing and playing my own songs on various instruments since I was about five years old! (You’d think I’d be good at it by now...) Haha, but anyways, I won’t go too in depth about my past in this post. Most of that is in the ABOUT page anyway. ;)

This being the middle of October, I thought it would be appropriate to post a song I wrote specifically for the Halloween season. I’m proud tell you that not only is “Monsters” one of the best songs I’ve ever written, but it is the most complicated song I’ve ever recorded. Also, it is the only song that I have ever recorded a music video for.

THAT’S RIGHT! A music video will be released in the near future on our Youtube page! In the meantime, feel free to check out a video of just the song here…

But wait, there’s more! The song will be available for purchase. And, this will also be an opportunity for you to donate to a special cause! Amber and I have decided that 40% of the proceeds from the purchase of this song will be donated to Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital to help kick some real monster butt!
