To J Riley: Purchase an additional 5%-10% of the flooring. As for the moisture barrier, purchase 10-mil (or heavier) polyethelene sheeting from your local big box store. Since you are installing in a basement, overlap the seams of the sheeting 2 feet and tape them with 2" clear tape. It is also a good idea run the plastic up the wall, install the baseboard as you would normally, then trim the sheeting flush with the top of the base.

Can anybody tell me if it is me or anybody else had problem install the flooring. I started to install fifty boxes of Harmonic Cottage Oak. I followed the instruction but I have a hell of time locking the length wise. I push it with20-40 degree angl but they don't click in. when I use the block and tap in it takes many hard taps to finally lock in. It took me two hours for two rows of 17 foot long.
Thanks

Hello All,
We are looking for 6 boxes of the Royal Mahogany Harmonics (Costco) laminate flooring. But, if we can only get 2 boxes, we can finish at least part of the project. Does anyone have any? My email is azitajones@comcast.net.

Here are a few of my comments after I recently installed 25 boxes in my townhome. Its my first time installing this type of material, and I worked alone. Overall the installation went well, BUT it took much longer than "advertised". Preparing my concrete subfloor required using a liquid leveler. Harmonics posts their specs and how to check if you will need to level the floor first. The locking edges on some of the new boards were already damaged when I opened the boxes. Costco replaced these.

During installation, I found there is quite a bit of measuring, cutting / trimming needed...usually required when I reached any wall. I used an electric table saw, so the cuts went pretty fast. This creates lots of sawdust, so I cut on an outside patio. Use spacers so that the boards will not end up touching the walls.

Pros: Floor looks great and makes the room look terrific. Nothing creaks or shifts. No water damage, so far. Cleaning the floor properly is very easy.
Cons: However, it does scratch and ding. The bottoms of shoes can occasionally pick up a small pebble from outside, and then walking on the laminate floor can install a ding in the surface. People can and will drop things onto the floor, as well. You may get a permanent nick to remember it by. Careful if anyone drops something sharp like scissors or a knife. Now have at least 3 small cuts this way, too.

And finally, I also have a nice feeling of pride and accomplishment. Glad I took on this project and very happy it is completed

Hello, folks. I am happy to help with installation questions. I have installed a few thousand square feet of Harmonics in the past couple years. I have installed all manner of laminates for about 15 years. I am a licensed contractor who, frankly, enjoys his job. It gives me great pleasure to answer questions regarding Harmonics. It is, in my opinion, well worth the money and I rank its quality amongst the best laminates in the industry.
Do not hesitate to ask. I usually spend an hour or so answering questions at night.
Good luck with your project!
